Helen E. (nee Taylor) Alford, age 86 years, of Ridley Park, PA., and formerly of Crum Lynne, PA died on Saturday Oct. 27, 2007 at Fair Acres, Middletown Twp., PA.

Born in Perryville, MD she had been a resident of Crum Lynne, before moving to Ridley Park in 1969.

Devoted to her home and family; earlier she had worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a secretary.

Wife of the late Walter F. Alford, Sr she is the loving mother of Walter F. Alford ,Jr., of Prospect Park, PA. and devoted grandmother of John G. Alford of Prospect Park ,PA. She is the sister of Kenneth Taylor of Ft. Lauderdale ,FL and the late Merle R. Taylor and James Taylor.

Funeral Services on Tuesday 10:00AM from the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home Middletown (Rte#352) & Knowlton rds., Middletown Twp. ,Media, PA where friends may call after 9:00AM. Interment in Pine Grove cemetery, Sunnyburn, York County, PA.

Memorial contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice , 100 Granite Drive ,Suite 200, Media ,PA 19063 would be appreciated.

Allen, James J.

James J. Allen, age 52 years, of Prospect Park, PA and formerly of Media, PA, died on Friday April 20, 2007 at South Mountain Restoration Center, South Mountain, PA. Born in Chester, PA he had been a resident of Media, PA before moving to Prospect Park 23 years ago.

He was a graduate of Penncrest High School Class of 1973. He was a dry wall finisher (local 1955 Phila) for 19 years and was later employed as a private contractor for several condominiums.

He enjoyed the outdoors and loved hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife: Pamela (nee Fleenor) Allen of Glen Riddle, PA; 3 Sons: Michael Allen of Mayayunk, Eddie Allen of Norwood, PA and Keith Allen of Tinicum; one daughter: Becky Allen of West Chester, PA; 4 brothers: Stephen Allen of Collingdale, PA, Robert Allen of Brookhaven, PA, Dennis Allen of Malvern, PA and Thomas Allen of Cleveland, Tenn.; 1 sister: Kathleen Allen of Aston, PA; He is the son of Rita (nee Hartranft) Allen of Malvern, PA and the late Carlyle P. Allen.

Funeral Service on Wednesday 11:00 a.m. from the Minshall-Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte#352) & Knowlton Roads, Middletown Twp., Media, PA where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Interment private.

Allen, Rita T.

Rita T. (Hartranft) Allen AGE: 83 Of: Aston, PA, born in Philadelphia, a resident of Media for more than 35 years before moving to Aston Twp.

DIED: Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Platinum Healthcare in Chester County.

EDUCATION: Graduate of Little Flower High School.

EMPLOYMENT: Homemaker

ORGANIZATIONS: Church: St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Aston, PA.

Other: A woman devoted to her home and family. She enjoyed bowling, reading and trips to Wildwood, NJ. Most of all Rita loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Wife of the late Carlyle P. Allen who died in 1985 and mother of the late James J. Allen who died in 2007.

SURVIVORS: CHILDREN: Stephen J. Allen (Eleanor) of Lewis, DE., Robert T. Allen (Donna) of Brookhaven, Dennis W. Allen (Deborah) of Malvern, Thomas J. Allen (Tari) of Georgetown, DE. And Kathleen T. Allen of Aston.

SISTERS: Loretta Hartranft of NJ, and Lorraine Evans of DE.

Allison, Mildred I.

Mildred I. (Landis) Allison, 94, of York, died at 1:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 3, 2001, at Rest Haven. She was the wife of the late John C. Messersmith, Sr. and the late Leslie J. Allison.

The service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 8th, at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Road, York. Burial will be in Greenmount cemetery. The viewing will be 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Allison was born December 5, 1906, in York, PA. She was the daughter of the late John F. and Elizabeth Jane (Emig) Landis.

Mrs. Allison was a clerk at Jack’s and Adler’s Clothing Stores. She was a member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ.

Mrs. Allison is survived by a grandson, John P. Messersmith of Sunrise, FL; four great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Allison was also preceded in death by a son, John C. Messersmith, Jr.; a daughter, Doris L. Messersmith; a grandson; and a granddaughter.

Officiating at the service will be the Rev. F. Christopher Anderson of Heidelberg United Church of Christ.

Allvord, Leigh D.

Leigh D. Allvord AGE: 68 OF: Brookhaven, PA and formerly of West Chester and Chester, PA

DIED: At home surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 2, 2008 Born: Chester, PA He had been a resident of West Chester from 1977 till 1993 when he moved to Brookhaven, PA

EDUCATION: Graduated Chester High School Class of 1957

VETERAN: US Navy

EMPLOYMENT: Scott Paper Company as a Machinist until his retirement in 1994. He co-founded the Chester Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) while at Scott Paper.

ORGANIZATIONS: Church: Member Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Wallingford, PA

Other: A man devoted to his home and family. He was an avid sportsman who was an accomplished bowler and bowled a 300 game in 1983. He was inducted in the Delaware County Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Pennsylvania State Hall of Fame Delaware County Chapter in June 2008. He bowled with the Penn City League for 40 years and the ABC Nationals for 29 years. He served as the Manager of Chester Youth Baseball League from 1970-1977. He also enjoyed golf and started playing the game during his retirement. He was an active member of Felton Fire Company #3, Chester, PA.

Son of the late George and Vannie (Strunk) Allvord; Brother of the late George, Rand and Jan Allvord.

SURVIVORS: Survived by his beloved wife 0f 46 years Kathleen M. (nee Mooney) Allvord; Three Loving Sons: Daniel L. (Donna) Allvord of Quarryvillle, PA, David T. (Rosemary) Allvord of Aston, PA and Robert G. (Tracy) Allvord of Avondale, PA; Also survived by Six Grandchildren: Dylan, Dalton, Shannon, Tommy, Evan and Natalie Allvord.

SERVICE INFORMATION: Funeral Service 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at The Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte#352) & Knowlton Roads, Middletown Twp., Media, PA. EMPLOYMENT: Holly worked in landscaping and as a veterinary technician.

ORGANIZATIONS: A loving and compassionate person who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and was an enthusiastic pet lover especially cats and dogs.

SURVIVORS: Survived by her beloved husband of 9 years, Christopher Almont; Loving mother of Dennis Malin, Amy Malin nd Christopher (Darlene) Almont; Loving Daughter of Carol Fahey and Richard Weaver and step-daughter of Lori Weaver; Dear sister of Karen Buckley, Lynn Schear, Thomas Buckley, Scott and Tim Weaver; Also survived by Two Grandchildren, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nephews and Nieces.

Andersen, Carol Lee

Carol Lee (nee Mayol) Andersen AGE: 75

OF: Glen Mills, PA DIED: Wednesday, March 2, 2005 in Chambersburg, PA. BORN IN: New Orleans, Carol Lee Mayol met the love of her life Van Sterner Andersen in Oakland, CA and married Sept. 9th, 1951. Van and Carol celebrated 50 years together in 2001.

Carol Lee was a devoted mother to Nancy, Tom and JoEllen. She was a passionate advocate for her children. She became equally devoted to their spouses Mike, Kristi and Pete. She was a loving grandmother to Whitney, Luke, Chris, Bethany, Emilee, Nathaniel, Brooke, Christina and Caleb.She had a compassion for others and was a loyal friend to many.

Carol Lee expressed her passion for life in her many artistic gifts, some of which included needle arts, quilting and antiqueing and used her gifts to enhance the lives of the people around her. She also spread her gifts to her church and her community, serving and teaching the talents God had gifted her with.

Relocating regularly due to her husband's job as an engineer at Westinghouse, Carol Lee put down roots as a woman of the church and member of whatever community she happened to be in at the time. She enjoyed singing in the choir, sewing clerical vestments and church banners and needlepointing kneelers.She and her church family remained busy delivering meals to the needy and taking turns teaching Sunday and Vacation Bible School at various churches from Oahu to Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania did provide Carol Lee with opportunities to enjoy the areas rich history through her participation in the Concord Historical Society and the Strausburg Railroad.

Anderson, William E.

William E. Anderson, age 69 years, of Parkside, PA died on Saturday, October 14, 2006, at Wilmington Hospital, Wilmington, DE. Born in Waynesboro, Va., he had been a resident of Upland for 10 years before moving to Parkside in 1989.

He was a veteran of the US Army. He had been employed by State Farm Insurance in Concordville, Pa in maintenance for 11 years and had worked prior as an automobile mechanic for Laxton Auto Repair for 10 years and had also worked for Lewis Tree Surgeons in Media, PA.

He enjoyed motorcycles,and working around his home.

He is survived by his wife Wilhelmina "Peaches" (nee Link) Anderson.,three brothers John C. Anderson of California , Marion "Andy" E. Anderson of Chester, PA and Vean C. Melton of Chester, PA. He was the son of the Nancy (nee Shiflett) Melton and brother of the late Ernstine Sweeney. Also survived by many nieces & nephews.
