Flocco, Martha Powell

August 21, 1917 - April 2, 2007

NAME: Martha Powell Flocco AGE: 89

OF: Middletown Twp., PA

AND FORMERLY OF: Springfield, PA

DIED: April 2, 2007

AT Riddle Memorial Hospital after a period of failing health.

BORN IN: Jonesboro, Arkansas and orphaned at age six, she grew up in the Vera Lloyd Presbyterian Home in Monticello, Arkansas.

EDUCATION: Distinguished graduate of Monticello High School and went on to graduate from Chillicothe College.

EMPLOYMENT: Sun Ship Corporation as a Secretary and prior employment at Emblem Flag Company as a Secretary.

ORGANIZATIONS: Church: Member Lownes Free (Blue) Church, Springfield where she was a Sunday school teacher.

Prior member of the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia prior to moving to Springfield in 1951.

Other: Working at the Memphis Army Depot during World War II, she met and married Captain Thomas D. Flocco in 1943. They settled in Springfield, Delaware County, Pennsylvania where they lived for thirty-seven years until Lt. Colonel Flocco died in 1980 after retiring in 1966 as a teacher in the Philadelphia Public Schools and the United States Army Reserve. Mrs. Flocco continued to live in Springfield prior to moving into Acts Community's Lima Estates in Middletown Township in 1996. She was known as an excellent cook and dedicated homemaker who was very active in Swarthmore Players and the Springfield Woman's Club before rejoining the workforce first as a secretary for Emblem Flag Company and then at Sun Shipbuilding Corporation.

SURVIVORS: Survived by Two Sons: Thomas V. Flocco and his wife Roxane, of Media, PA and James L. Flocco and his wife Barbara of Stratham, NH, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

SERVICE INFORMATION Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10 at The Minshall-Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, 608 S. Old Midddletown Road, Middletown Twp., Media, PA where friends may call after 10:00 a.m.

All of her friends and Lima Estates employees are invited to attend a memorial buffet luncheon reception in the auditorium at Lima Estates, 411 N. Middletown Road, which will begin at 12:00 noon.

Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Glenwood Memorial Gardens on West Chester Pike (PA Route 3) in Broomall.

The family is deeply appreciative and grateful to the staff at Lima Estates for the loving considerate and professional care afforded our mother and grandmother for nearly 11 years at Lima, but also to her personal physician Dr. Marc J. Wertheimer and doctors, nurses and aides at Riddle Memorial Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any memorial gifts to be sent to the Lima Estates Samaritan Fund, 411 N. Middletown Road, Media, PA 19063 in memory of Martha P. Flocco.

Folger, William J.

William J. Folger AGE: 83

OF: Aston Twp., PA And Formerly of Media, Middletown Twp, PA

DIED: Saturday, October 7, 2006 AT Crozer-Chester Medical Center Born: Philadelphia, PA, HAD BEEN A RESIDENT OF Media, Middletown Twp., PA for 42 years before moving to Aston, 2 years ago.

EDUCATION: Graduate Overbrook High School

EMPLOYMENT: Rosetree Media School District as a bus driver in his retirement years. Met Life as an Insurance Agent retired in 1980 after 30 years. PRIOR EMPLOYMENT: Telephone Lineman for Bell Telephone. Electrician for Novelty Electric in Philadelphia.

VETERAN: US Navy WAR World War II

ORGANIZATIONS: Church: Member Church of St Joseph Aston, PA

Former Member Church of Nativity BVM, Media, PA

Other: A man devoted to his home and family. Loved trains and trolleys. He enjoyed building big platforms in his basement and had several different setups. A train in the basement reached out to a train in the backyard through a cellar window to a whole other outside display of the train hobby. Was a member of the National Railway Historical Society, Chester County Historical Society and Delaware County Historical Society. He was involved in the School House Senior Center Computer Group and the Main Line Computer Users Group, West Chester, PA. A member of Middletown Fire Company and Media VFW where he served as Past Commander.

Husband of 56 years to the late Gloria (nee D'Abruzzo) Folger and Grandfather of the late Eric Evans.

SURVIVORS: Survived by Four Daughters: Beverlyann Lamer of Phoenixville, PA, Elaine Evans of Aston, PA, Audrey Whitmore of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Marsha Valenti of Aston, PA. Companion of Olive Bishop of Aston, PA; Also survived by Seven Grandchildren and Five Great-Grandchildren.

SERVICE INFORMATION: Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Nativity BVM, Franklin & Monroe Streets, Media, PA. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Media, PA. Friends may call 8:00 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minshall-Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte#352) & Knowlton Roads, Middletown Twp., Media, PA.

VETERAN: US Navy WAR Korean

EMPLOYED: Sun Ship-Penn Ship AS Carpenter FOR 40 years

ORGANIZATIONS: Coached Sun Oil Little League for years and was a Boy Scout Leader Troop #86, Chester for 9 years.

SURVIVORS: Husband of the late Sarah E. (nee Buchanan) Follett who died in 1987; He is survived by A Daughter: Colleena Follett of Marcus Hook, PA; A Sister: Sandy Beckson of Florida; Also survived by Two Grandchildren. Father of the late Robert J. Follett.

SERVICE INFORMATION: Memorial Mass 9:30 a.m. Saturday from The Church of the Holy Saviour, 108 E. Ridge Road, Linwood, PA. Interment private. Arrangements by The Minshall-Shropshire Funeral Home, Middletown Twp., Media, PA.

SURVIVORS: Husband of the late Irene (nee Williams) Fooks; Survived by Three Sons: Rich Fooks of Bradley Beach, New Jersey, Thomas H. Fooks, Jr. of Aston, PA and John S. Fooks of Aston, PA; A Daughter: Joanne Shultz of West Bradford, PA; His Mother: Thelma (nee Warrington) Fooks of Port Charlotte, Florida; Also survived by Five Grandchildren. Son of the late John Henry Fooks who died in 1987.

ORGANIZATIONS: Mr. Forbes appreciated music and the arts, he spoke French, German and Russian. Avid study of genealogy, and enjoyed travelling and traveled around the world several times. He loved snow and when we had a good fall, he and the many children of Moylan had fun building an igloo where hot chocolate and cookies were served.

SURVIVORS: Survived by his wife of 64 years, Emma Weston Forbes; A Sister: Amelia Thomas of Rhode Island; Sister-in-Law: Sal Forbes of Sheridan, Wyoming; Also survived by several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Son of the late Waldo E. and Ellen Forbes; Brother of the late Waldo E. Forbes.

SERVICE INFORMATION: Memorial Service Saturday, March 8th, 2:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 145 Rose Tree Road, Media. Interment private. Arrangements by the Minshall-Shropshire Funeral Home, Middletown Twp., Media, PA
