Dorthea Dalton Freeman

Dorothea Dalton Freeman, 93, a lifelong resident of Prospect park, died on April 19, 2005, at Prospect Park Health & Rehabilitation Residence in Prospect Park.

Born in Ridley Park, Mrs. Freeman was a lifelong resident of Prospect Park. She was a graduate of the former Ridley Park High School and Temple University. Mrs. Freeman's portrait is in the Temple University Athletic Hall of Fame, as she was one of the first women to receive four varsity letters at Temple University. She received varsity letters in field hockey, tennis, swimming and volleyball.

After graduating from Temple University, Mrs. Freeman was a physical education teacher at the former Prospect Park High School until her retirement. She was a referee for women's high school basketball and field hockey for a number of years.

Mrs. freeman was a member of the Tuscarora Lapidary Society and taught master craftsman courses in jewelry making from Maine to Florida.

Mrs. Freeman was a lifelong member of Prospect Hill Baptist Church in Prospect Park, where she held local, regional and state offices for the Women's Groups of Prospect Hill Baptist Church and the American Baptist Church.

She will be remembered as a women devoted to her family and her church.

Mrs. Freeman is the daughter of the late Alonzo and Lulu Dalton. She is the wife of the late L. Howard Freeman, who died in 1990. She was also predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Jones.

She is survived by her son, Kerry A. Freeman of Aston and her daughter-in-law, Linda Freeman, who helped care for her; her sisters Marian Flynn and Ethel Roddy, both of Prospect Park.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA. The visitation will be on Wednesday after 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Her burial will be in Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Marple Township.

Contributions: To the Memorial Fund of Prospect Hill Baptist Church or to The Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, both at the same address, 703 Lincoln Avenue, Prospect Park, PA 19076.

Christine E. Huscher

Christine E. Huscher, 49, a resident of Prospect Park and a licensed practical nurse, died on April 14th at her residence.

Born in Dover, Delaware, Mrs. Huscher was a resident of Prospect Park for the last 6 years, having lived in Glenolden before that. She was a 1974 graduate of Interboro High School.

Mrs. Huscher was employed as a licensed practical nurse, having last worked at the Prospect Health & Rehabilitation Residence, before her health failed. Prior to working there, she was employed at Delaware County Memorial Hospital and the Melmark Home in Newtown Square.

Mrs. Huscher served in the U.S. Navy from 1976 to 1980.

She enjoyed fishing and shooting pool in her leisure time, and also loved all kinds of music and loved to dance.

She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Norwood for her entire life. She will be sadly missed by her family and her many friends.

Mrs. Huscher is the daughter of the late William A. Wooten and she was predeceased by her brother, Kirk C. Wooten.

She is survived by her husband, Gary R. Huscher; her daughters, Brynn Slosser and Hilary Slosser both of Glenolden, her sons, Jonathan Slosser of Ohio and Matthew Slosser of Glenolden; and her mother, Sheila Wooten of Glenolden.

Her memorial service will be on Wednesday, April 20th, at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 128 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA. Her burial will be private.

Anthony "Tony" J. Pasquale

Anthony "Tony" J. Pasquale, 84, of Prospect Park, a retired driver, died on April 17, 2005 at Taylor Hospital in Ridley park.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a resident of Norwood before moving to Prospect Park nine years ago. Mr. Pasquale was a driver for various local companies before his retirement.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Pasquale was devoted to his family. He was the father of Michael Fene, who died in 1988.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Fene; his daughters, Mary, Marie, Linda, Carmella and Vickie; his sons, Joseph, Anthony, Donnie and Peter; his many grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held on Thursday at 7:30 PM at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA. The visitation will be on Thursday at 6:30 PM at the funeral home. His burial will be private.

Cindy A. Keeth Powell

Cindy A. Keeth Powell, 46, of Burleigh, New Jersey, and a former resident of Tinicum Township in Pennsylvania, died on April 18, 2005 at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital in Cape May Court House, NJ.

Born in Ridley Park, PA, she was raised in Tinicum Township, PA and lived there until moving to Burleigh, Cape May County, New Jersey, 15 years ago.

She was employed as a school bus driver with First Student Company in the Southern New Jersey School District for a number of years before becoming ill.

Cindy was a graduate of Interboro High School in Prospect Park, Pennsylvania. She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard and she also loved to entertain. Cindy was the daughter of the late Georgia Keeth.

She is survived by her husband, David Powell; her son, David Powell at home; her daughter, Tara Powell at home; her father, James Keeth of Sebring Florida; her brothers, Thomas Keeth of Lester, Tinicum Township, PA, Daniel Keeth of Sebring, Florida, Michael Keeth of Bradenton, Florida, and William Keeth of Atlantic City, New Jersey; her sisters, Gigi Crew of Dennisville, New Jersey and Linda Bacher of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 AM at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA. The visitation will be on Saturday after 9:30 AM at the funeral home. Her burial will be in Lawn Croft Cemetery in Lower Chichester, PA.

Arrangements are by Griffith Funeral Chapel in Norwood, PA.

Ruth E. Cannon

Ruth E. Cannon, 84, an award winning artist and longtime resident of Folsom, Ridley Township, died April 21, 2005, at Taylor Hospice Residence in Ridley Park.

Born in Collingdale, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Selena Culbertson. Mrs. Cannon was a resident of the Folsom section of Ridley Township for most of her life. She also maintained a home in Brigantine, New Jersey and Plantation, Florida.

Mrs. Cannon was an award winning and very talented artist. She worked in all kinds of medium regarding painting and was also known for her sculptures and other forms of artwork. She had won many competitions and at one time was a member of the Community Art Center in Wallingford, Pa. Many of her paintings are hung in prominent areas throughout Delaware County.

Mrs. Cannon was especially devoted to her late husband Giles J. Cannon, Sr. to whom she was married for 62 years before, his death in 2002. She loved to travel all over the country and the world with her late husband.

She will be remembered as a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She loved her family.

Mrs. Cannon was the sister of the late Almira Dieffenwierth and Elizabeth Davis.

She is survived by her sons; Francis G. Cannon, Giles J. Cannon Jr., and Harry D. Cannon all of Ridley Township, Michael D. Cannon of Wallingford, and Robert L. Cannon of Chadds Ford; her daughter, Ruth E. Fulkersin of Prospect Park; her sisters, Selena Baldwin of Coatsville and Joan Kisling of Downingtown; her brother, Francis “Bud” Culbertson of Ridley Park; her 33 grand children, 63 great-grand children and her 10 great-great grand children.

Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 2130 Franklin Ave., in Morton, Pa. Her visitation will be on Monday after 9:30 AM at the church. Her entombment will be in the family mausoleum at Saint Peter & Paul Cemetery in Marple Township.

Catherine M. Powers

Catherine M. Powers, 93, a longtime resident of Lester, Tinicum Township, died on April 21, 2005 at her residence.

Born in Chester, Mrs. Powers was the daughter of the late James and Mary Dougherty. She was a resident of the Lester section of Tinicum Township since 1937.

Mrs. Powers enjoyed cooking and working in her kitchen when her health was better, and enjoyed knitting and playing cards in her spare time. She will be remembered as a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was the wife of the late Herman W. Powers, who died in 1983. She was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Pamela Powers.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan Powers of Lester, Tinicum Township; her son, Herman L. “Bud” Powers of Canton, Ohio; her brother, Joseph Dougherty of Tampa, Florida; her four grandchildren and her three great-grandchildren.

Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church, Wanamaker Avenue and Govenor Printz Blvd., in Essington. Her visitation will be on Tuesday at 8:30 AM at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood. Her burial will be in Arlington Cemetery in Upper Darby.

Mildred E. McLaughlin

Mildred E. McLaughlin, 79, a longtime resident of Norwood, died on August 16th at The Wallingford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Nether Providence Township.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Kathryn Marie Bartlett.

Mrs. McLaughlin worked as a secretary for a period of time, but mostly she will remembered as a homemaker who was devoted to her family. She enjoyed reading and music, and was a very generous person who contributed to various charities during her lifetime.

Mrs. McLaughlin was the wife of the late Frank McLaughlin, to whom she was married for 44 years until his death in 1994. She was also the sister of the late Helen and Carol Ann.

She is survived by her son, Steven of Prospect Park; her sisters, Elaine and Nancy of Philadelphia, and Evelyn of West Chester; her brothers, Warren of Philadelphia and Ray of Delran, N.J.; her grandchildren who cared for her, Rosemary, Jessica, Kristina, Jennifer, and Steven; and her great-granddaughter, Isabella.

Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 A.M. at The Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike in Norwood. Her visitation will be on Thursday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home. Her burial will be at Edgewood Memorial Park in Concord Township.

Elizabeth "Betty" Griffith Siscovitz

Elizabeth “Betty” Griffith Siscovitz, 75, a longtime resident of the Ogden section of Upper Chichester Township, died on August 15th at Naaman’s Creek Country Manor in Boothwyn.

Born in Lester, Tinicum Township, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Anna Louise Griffith. She was a resident of the Ogden section of Upper Chichester Township for 50 years.

Mrs. Siscovitz was employed as an accountant at the Delaware County Community College for a number of years before her retirement, having worked in the same capacity at the University of Pennsylvania for many years before that.

Mrs. Siscovitz enjoyed reading and working on crossword puzzles and especially loved to cook and bake. She had a special fondness for watching and listening to musical Broadway productions.

Mrs. Siscovitz was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Prospect Park for a number of years and became a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church when she moved to Ogden.

Most of all, she will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Mrs. Siscovitz is the wife of the late Leon Siscovitz, to whom she was married for 57 years until his death in June of this year.

She is survived by her daughter, Betty Lou McAdams of Ogden; her sisters, Roberta Kaehn of Massachusetts, Sandra Beadle of Prospect Park, and Martha Yoder of Palm, Pa.; and her grandson.

Her funeral service and burial will be private.

Margaret R. "Peg" Docherty

Margaret R. “Peg” Docherty, 88, a life long resident of Norwood, died on August 13th at the Rainbow Nursing Center in Pittsgrove, N.J.

Born and raised in Norwood, Mrs. Docherty lived there all of her life. She was a graduate of the former Glen-Nor High School. While at Glen-Nor she was an excellent athlete playing field hockey and was a member of the National Honor Society.

She was the daughter of the late Robert and Ada Riddagh.

Mrs. Docherty was employed as an administrative assistant at the Interboro School District for many years until her retirement.

She was an active member for years in the Order of the Eastern Star, having been a member of the former Prospect Chapter #301 and is currently a member of Friendship Chapter #51. Mrs. Docherty was a Mother Advisor for Prospect Park Assembly #89, International Order of Rainbow for Girls for many years.

She was a longtime active member of the Norwood United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Donald H. Docherty, Jr. of Chadds Ford; her daughter, Judy Puglise of Millville, N.J.; her three grandchildren; and her five great-grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood. Her visitation will be on Saturday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home. During the visitation, there will be an Eastern Star Service at 10:30 A.M. Her burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery in Upper Darby.

Dorothy Eleanor Eckenroth

Dorothy Eleanor Eckenroth, 87, of Wilmington, De. and formerly of Claymont, De., died on August 6, 2008 at Manor Care Nursing Home where she resided for the last 5 years.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa. and raised in Lansdowne, Pa. she was a 1939 graduate of Lansdowne High School.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife to the late Albert Wesley Eckenroth to whom she married in 1941 and he died in 1983. She was also the loving daughter to the late Joseph and Laura Fretz.

She will always be remembered by her family as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and Great-grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother.

She is survived by her Sons, Lawrence D. Eckenroth of Barboursville, VA., Wesley A. Eckenroth of Glenolden, Pa., her daughters, Susan E. Fulmer of Souderton, Pa. and Nancy E. Monson of Plano, Tx., her ten grandchildren, six Great-grandchildren and her one Great-Great grandchild.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. Her visitation will be after 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Her burial will be in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens in King of Prussia, Pa.
