Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Charles J. Dreyer, Jr.

Charles J. Dreyer, Jr., 77, a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War who was retired from the U.S. Army and a longtime resident of Prospect Park, died on May 6th, at his residence.

Born in Renovo, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles J. Dreyer, Sr. and the late Mary Batschet Dreyer. He was a resident of Prospect Park for the last 40 years.

Mr. Dreyer served in the U.S. Army for 23 years and retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class in 1971. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War during his military career. Mr. Dreyer was a member of V.F.W. Post 7213 in Norwood.

Besides spending time with his family, he also enjoyed watching all kinds of sports.

He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Johanna Goeller Dreyer; his daughters, Catherine Christy of Glassboro, NJ and Deborah Homka of Garnet Valley; his son, Thomas J. Dreyer of Woolwich Township, NJ; his brothers, Harry Dreyer of Newark, Delaware and Chet Dreyer of Blacksburg, Virginia; his sisters, Margaret Rauch of Williamsport, Pa., Dorothy Whiteman of Colorado Springs, Co., Amy McNeil of Exeter, Pa., nd Carol Lien of Cascade, Co., and his six grandchildren.

His funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, on Mohawk Avenue, in Norwood. His visitation will be on Saturday from 8:30 A.M. to 10 A.M. at The Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood. His entombment w ill be in the Garden Mausoleum at Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Marple Township.

Helen Marie Hess

Helen Marie Hess, 86, a resident of The Cathedral Village in Philadelphia and formerly of Swarthmore; died on May 6th at Roxborough Memorial Hospital in Philadelphia.

Born in Chester, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Agnes Stauffer.Mrs. Hess was a resident of The Cathedral Village in Philadelphia for the last three and a half years. She was a resident of Swarthmore for several years before moving to The Cathedral Village. Mrs. Hess moved to Swarthmore when her husband, The Rev. Joseph W. Hess, retired after serving as the associate rector of The Church of the Good Samaritan in Paoli for many years.

Mrs. Hess enjoyed trips to Long Beach Island, New Jersey, where she and her husband maintained a home in Beach Haven Gardens for a number of years.

Mrs. Hess loved to sew, and was known for her tailoring and for her wonderful ability to upholster pieces of furniture.

Most of all, she will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Hess is predeceased by her sister, Betty Ramaika, and her brother, Jack Stauffer.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, The Rev. Joseph W. Hess; her daughters, Jennifer Sears of York, Pa. and Hennie Cline of Wallingford;her three grandchildren; and her two great-grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 A.M.at Christ Episcopal Church, 104 Nevin Street, in Ridley Park. Her visitation will be on Saturday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the church. Her burial will be in Media Cemetery in Media.

Deborah Eileen Kilmartin

Deborah Eileen Kilmartin, 53, an environmental chemist who lived in Sharon Hill, died on May 6th at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill.

Born in Darby, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen Kilmartin. She attended Archbishop Pendergrast High School and then graduated from Sharon Hill High School. Miss Kilmartin attended Delaware County Community College and graduated from West Chester University. She then did graduate study at Drexel University in environmental chemistry. She was a resident of Sharon Hill for the last 20 years.

Miss Kilmartin was employed as an environmental chemist at various companies in the area before becoming ill.

She participated in the “Chemist in the Classroom” Program at many schools in the area and some that were a distance away. She also volunteered whenever she could at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.

Miss Kilmartin was a member of the American Chemical Society and was the editor of “The Catalyst” publication.

She loved working in arts and crafts, and especially enjoyed working with stained glass, and loved to crochet and knit. She had made many blankets that she donated and had recently given scarves that she made away to the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation, an organization to whom she donated much of her time.

She also served as a sacristan at the Malvern Retreat.

She will be missed by her family and her many friends.

She is survived by her brothers, Kevin Kilmartin of South Philadelphia and Sean Kilmartin of Folcroft; her sisters, Kathleen Crawford of Coatesville, Colleen Scattolini of Ridley Park, and Maureen Kelly Carreno of Glenolden; and her many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Her graveside service will be held on Friday at 2:30 P.M. at The Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, on West Chester Pike, in Broomall, Marple Township. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum.

James E. Lamont, Jr.

James E. Lamont, Jr., 73, a resident of Norwood who was known as the “Piano Man”, died on May 3rd at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Middletown Township.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late James E. Lamont, Sr. and the late Veronica Lamont. He was raised in West Philadelphia in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church Parish and went to school there. He was a resident of Norwood for 25 years.

Mr. Lamont served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a master plumber, but was better known as the “Piano Man” as he played the piano in many taverns and bars from Philadelphia, to Delaware County, to Wildwood, NJ for many years.

He also enjoyed woodworking, and especially loved working in wood miniatures and was known for his miniature wood carousels that he made.

Mr. Lamont was a member of V.F.W. Post #7213 in Norwood and also was a member of American Legion Post #507 in Norwood.

He is the husband of the Nora Moran Lamont, who died in 1991. He is also predeceased by his sister, Margaret Petrick and his brother, Michael Lamont.

He is survived by his daughters, Noreen Wiseley, Elizabeth Pedano, and Susan Winstel, all of Philadelphia, Patricia Howard of Norwood, Donna Bevilacqua of Wilmington, Del., and Charlotte Alloway of Clifton Heights, his son, Thomas Lamont of Douglassville, Pa.; his brother, Edward Lamont of Florida; his sisters, Regina Bradley of Limerick, Pa. and Veronica Rothley of Clifton Heights, his 18 grandchildren; his 12 great-grandchildren; his 27 nieces and nephews, and a host of great-nieces and nephews and many friends.

His memorial mass will be held on Friday, May 9th, at 10 A.M. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, on Mohawk Avenue, in Norwood. His visitation will be on Friday from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. at the church. His burial will be private.

Raymond P. Towey

Raymond P. Towey, 55, of Glenolden, died on April 28, 2008 at Mercy Suburban Hospital in East Norriton, Pa.

Born in Chester, Pa., Mr. Towey has been a long time resident of Glenolden. He was the son of the late James and Betty Towey.

Mr. Towey worked as a sheet metal worker as his career. He was a 1970 graduate of Interboro High School. He was an artist and he loved to play bingo and was an avid Phillies Fan.

He is pre-deceased by his brother, James J. Towey, Jr. who died in 2000.

He is survived by his sisters, Patricia Bair of Newark, DE. and Mary Powell of Eddystone, PA; his brothers, Stephen Towey of Sharon Hill, PA, Robert Towey of Glenolden, PA, William Towey of Glenolden, PA. and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be on Friday at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA. His visitation will be on Friday after 9 A.M. at the funeral home. His burial will be in Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Broomall, PA.

William A. "Andy" Gock, Sr.

William A. “Andy” Gock, Sr., 54, of Morton, Pa. died on April 27, at Crozer Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pa.

Born in Abington, Pa., Andy was employed as a Letter Carrier for the Broomall Post Office.

He was a 1971 graduate of Springfield High School in Springfield, Pa. and had served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Abate Motorcycle and the Tri State Hog Motorcycle Clubs. Andy was also a ASA Umpire and a PIAA Basketball Official and a former Board member of the Aquatic Swim Club.

He was the son of the late William Lesko, George J. Gock, Jr. and Phyllis Schuyler Harvey Gock.

He is survived by his wife, Rita (nee Wells) Gock, his son, William A. Gock, Jr., his daughters, Jennifer and Gabrielle, his two Grandchildren, and his Sister Alison Lesko Harriman.

His funeral service will be held at 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood. His visitation will be from 6 P.M. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. His burial will be private.

Fredericka "Freda" Schwartz

Fredericka “Freda” Schwartz, age 97, of Essington, Pa. died on April 25, at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park, Pa.

Born in Ridley Park, Freda was employed by Westinghouse Electric as a payroll clerk for 34 years.

She enjoyed playing bingo and pinochle. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother. Freda was a longtime member of St. John’s Tinicum Lutheran Church in Essington, Pa.

She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Henrietta Fowler.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Schwartz of Essington, Pa.

Her funeral service will be at 11 A.M. Thursday, May 1st, at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. Her visitation will be from 10 A.M. at the funeral home. Her burial will be private.

Donald L. Charlesworth

Donald L. Charlesworth, 65, a resident of Ridley Park and retiree of Scott Paper, now Kimberly-Clark, died on April 18th at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.

Born in Ridley Park at Taylor Hospital, he was the son of the late Alvin and Martha Charlesworth. He was employed at Scott Paper, now Kimberly Clark, in the mechanical maintenance department from 1966 to 1994, when he retired

He attended Valley Forge Academy in 1956.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1962 to 1964. He became a member of the Springfield Fire Department in 1958.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Reeves Charlesworth of Ridley Park; his son, Donald Charlesworth of West Chester; his daughters, Gail Harrington of Newtown Square and Amy Liberatore of Drexel Hill; his brothers-in-law, Bill and John Reeves; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood. His visitation will be on Wednesday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home. His burial will be private.

Emma M. "Chickie" Humphries

Emma M. Humphries, 74, a longtime resident of Prospect Park, died on April 18th at her residence.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Emily Harvey. She was a resident of Prospect Park for 50 years.

Mrs. Humphries was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Prospect Park for many years. She loved taking trips to the casinos and especially like to work in her garden.

Most of all, she will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is the mother of the late Gary Humphries.

Her visitation will be on Monday from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood. Her burial will be in Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, Upper Darby Township.

George Simpson Jenerette

George Simpson Jenerette, 53, a resident of Eddystone who worked as a Receiving Inspection Process Leader, passed into the arms of his Savior on April 15th at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.

Born in Darby, Pa.and raised in Glenolden, George resided in Southern Florida before returning to Delaware County 14 years ago.

He attended Interboro High School and received his Associate’s Degree, graduating top of the Dean’s List from Delaware County Community College as an Electronics Technician in 1986. A true perfectionist, his technical and precise analytical skills laid the groundwork for his successful growth and advancement in his position with Moog, Inc. in Springfield, Pa., which he loved.

George was known for his free spirit, good humor and generous nature. His keen eye for detail and exceptional artistic abilities in art, photography and writing were evident in both his professional and personal pursuits. He loved the City of Philadelphia and spent much of his free time photographing the beauty he saw in it; the many murals, night lights, historic sites and architecture. He was an avid Flyers fan. George loved his travel adventures throughout the country with his family and especially those to Florida.

George’s life long love and unwavering faith in God provided support and comfort to him and his family, particularly throughout his illness.

He was the beloved son of the late Ellis V. Jenerette, Jr. and the late Viola Amanda Jenerette.

He is survived by his brothers, Gary Jenerette, Peter Jenerette and Vandon E. Jenerette; his sisters, Jane Jenerette, Beatrice Ladley, Faith Traini and Viola Mayberry and his nieces and nephews, and grand -nieces and nephews.

His graveside service will take place on Saturday at 11 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Newtown Township Cemetery, on Route 252, in Newtown Square with his burial to follow.

Judith Anne Klina

Judith Anne “Judy” Klina, 59, a lifelong resident of Prospect Park, died on April 15th at her residence.

Born in Kingston, Pa., she was raised in Prospect Park and was educated in the Interboro School System and graduated from Interboro High School in 1969. She attended and graduated from West Chester University in 1974 with a major in special education.

Miss Klina was employed by Elwyn Institute as an Education Supervisor at the Davidson School for 33 years and retired in 2005.

Miss Klina loved to travel and loved Long Beach Island, vacationing there every summer for many years. She also loved her two Shiztus, Pookie and Suki. She was very close with her nieces and nephews and lived life to the fullest.

Miss Klina was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Prospect Park and served on the vestry and was once a Sunday School Teacher.

She is the daughter of the late James M. Klina.

She is survived by her mother, Doris Klina of Prospect Park; her brothers, James Klina of Jackson, N.J., Frank Klina of Prospect Park, and Richard Klina of Glenolden; her sisters, Joanne Klina Burns of Prospect Park, Janice Whitmore of Bridgeport, N.J., Margaret Keenan of Ridley Park, and Susan Murphy of Haddonfield, N.J.; and her many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 A.M. at St. James Episcopal Church, 11th & Lincoln Avenues, in Prospect Park. Her visitation will be on Thursday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday morning from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood. Her burial will be in Lawn Croft Cemetery in Lower Chichester Township.

Gail Ann Hartsough

Gail Ann Hartsough, 45, a resident of Collingdale and a woman who was devoted to her family, died on April 14th at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby.

Born in Philadelphia, she was raised in Glenolden and was a 1981 graduate of Interboro High School. She was a resident of Collingdale for many years.

Mrs. Hartsough was a graduate of the Venus Beauty Academy and loved working with women’s hair and cosmetics, although she did not work as a professional hairdresser.

She will be remembered as a woman who was devoted to her children and her family.

Mrs. Hartsough is the wife of the late John Hartsough, Jr.

She is survived by her children, John Hartsough, III of Darby and Joshua and Leah Saggese both of Glenolden; her parents, Joseph and Nancy Gleason of Glenolden; her sisters, Debbie Devuono of Avondale and Barbara Denmon of Prospect Park; her brother, Darren Matthew Gleason of Wilmington, Delaware; and her nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and many cousins.

Her funeral service will be on Friday evening at 8 P.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood. Her visitation will be on Friday evening from 6:30 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Funeral home. Her burial will be private.
