Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Robert J. Cummings

Robert J. Cummings, 56, of Lester, passed away peacefully Monday, at Crozer Chester Medical Center, Upland.

He is the son of Walter Cummings, and the late Lorraine (nee Fox).

He is survived by his sons Robert, Jr., and Joshua Cummings. Brothers, Edward and Joseph, his nephew Edward, Jr. and his niece Angela Cummings.

Robert died doing what he loved, riding a Harley Davidson.

He was a Delaware County Veteran who served in the Marine Corps from 1974 to 1977.

Relatives and Friends are invited to his funeral service, Monday, June 10, at 12:15pm at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, where friends may call after 10am. Burial will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.

Arthur T. Cloud

Arthur T. Cloud, 87, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2013 at Taylor Hospice House. Art was a gentleman and a genuinely good man, always focused on his family.

A U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, Art served in the Pacific on the Battleship U.S.S. Nevada. He enjoyed a long career with Boeing Vertol (the former Piasecki Aircraft Corp.), where he was employed as an engineer before his retirement in 1992.

In the 1960's Art spent several months representing Boeing in Vietnam instructing servicemen in helicopter maintenance. He capped off his career with frequent trips to Europe and the Paris Air Show, to demonstrate the capabilities of the Chinook helicopter. He and his family were very proud of his service to our country.

Art was the devoted husband of 65+ years of Anne (nee Fiebig). He was the father of Cheryl (Jack) Hayes and Robert (Deborah) Cloud. He was also the loving grandfather of John (Tricia) and Christopher (Amy) Hayes, Justin (Vanessa), Jamison and Jennifer Cloud and great-grandfather of Jack, Tommy, Joseph and Paul Hayes.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Service Thursday 11am at Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, where there will be a viewing 10-11am. Burial Saints Peter & Paul Cem.

In lieu of flowers, contributions the The St. Jude Children's Research Facility, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.

Raymond B. Malloy

Raymond B. Malloy, Sr., 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Friday, May 24 at Crozer Keystone Hospice at Taylor Hospital. He was a 47 year resident of Norwood.

He was the son of the late William J. and Elizabeth Ford Malloy.

Survived by his adoring wife Margaret E. (nee Walls), and his 3 children, Margaret (Jeff) Donohue of Folcroft, Raymond “Chip” B. Malloy (Pete) of Philadelphia, and Noelle (Kit) Malloy of Ohio, Brother, William Malloy and his Mother in Law Margaret Walls. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren

Raymond was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Vogel, and by his brother Gerald Malloy.

Mr. Malloy loved his home in Cape May Court House and his dog Paris. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Relatives and Friends are invited to the viewing 6-8 pm Tuesday, and after 8:30am Wednesday, at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood. The Funeral Mass will be 10am Wednesday at St. Laurence Church, 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby.

His burial will be Private

Barbara Boeckem-Olszewski

Barbara Boeckem-Olszewski, aged 58, passed away May 9th, 2013 in Dover, Delaware. Born in Lester, Pa. she was the daughter of Minerva Morrison and Henry Boeckem. Barbara married three times, to John Becker, Robert Farmer, and Robert Olszewski.

Barbara is survived by her mother; her sister Debbie; son and daughter Steven and Tara; grandson Andrew; nieces Lisa and Nicole, and nephew Anthony.

There will be a Memorial Service at the Community Church of Folsom on May 16th at 7:30 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to the church at 1212 Melrose Terrace, Folsom, Pa. 19033.

Pauline Kohler

Pauline Kohler, 89, a long time resident of Folsom, Pa., passed away on May 1, 2013 at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park, Pa.

Pauline came to the United States as a war bride from England in 1964 and settled in Delaware County. She was married to George W. Kohler for 64 years until his death in 2009.

Pauline was employed as an Administrative Assistant in the Research Lab of the Franklin Mint until her retirement in 1989.

She is survived by her son Kirk Kohler; her two grandchildren, Jessica and Nicholas; and her brother, Jeffrey Nicholls of Enfield, Middlesex, England.

Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 11th, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa.Her visitation will be on Saturday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home. Her burial will be private.

Anna Mary Scheirer

Anna Mary Scheirer, 87, a lifelong resident of Essington, Tinicum Township, died on May 1, 2013 at Christiana Care in Wilmington, Delaware.

Born in Ridley Park, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Eva Walls. She was employed as a bookkeeper with the Interboro School District for 17 years until her retirement in 1986.

Anna Mary was a longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Essington where she taught Sunday School, served on the Vestry for 9 years, served on the Altar Guild, and was involved with organizing the Strawberry Festival for many years.

She was the wife of the late John Arthur Scheirer, Sr., who died in 1982. She was also predeceased by her sons, John Arthur Scheirer, Jr. and Stanley Scheirer.

She is survived by her son, Leonard Scheirer of Wilmington, DE; her daughters Mary Scheirer of Essington and Margaret Scheirer of Alameda, CA; her grandson John Michael and granddaughter Samantha; and her dear friends Walter and Linda Marvel of Essington.

Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4 th, at 2 P.M. at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 16 West Third Street, in Essington, PA. Her burial will be private.

Robert DeWitt Beeson, Sr.

Robert DeWitt Beeson, Sr., 81, a resident of Norwood, died on April 29, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Havertown.

Born in Philadelphia on January 31, 1932, he was the son of the late Daniel and Ethel Beeson.

He was employed as a manager in the tool and die department at Boeing Vertol for many years until his retirement. He was a 33rd Degree Mason and a member of Prospect Lodge #578 F.& A.M. He will be remembered as an avid golfer, a great Phillies fan, and a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Robert was the husband of the late Gloria Beeson, who died in February of this year.

He was also predeceased by his son, Robert D. Beeson, Jr.

He is survived by his children, Cherie Kraemer (late husband, Mark), Charles Beeson (wife, Jean), Jay Beeson (wife, Cherie), and daughter-in-law Terry Beeson; his grandchildren, Megan, Angela, Jeffrey, Josclyn, Robert III, Matthew, Ryan, Bradley, Rebecca, Tyler, and Corey; and his great-grandchildren, Cooper, Keaton, Nicholas, and Robert IV.

His funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 1st, at 8 P.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood. His visitation will be on Wednesday from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. His burial will be private.

Joseph John "Joe" Battista, Sr.

Joseph John “Joe” Battista, Sr., 84, a recent resident of Mifflin, Pa. and a former lifelong resident of Lester (Tinicum Township), passed away on April 16, 2013 at Harrisburg Hospital in Harrisburg, Pa.

Born in Clifton Heights, Pa., he was the son of the late Cosimo and Susie Agatone Battista. He was one of 11 children, the others being Rose, Edith, Mary, Antoinette, Dorothy, Charles, Cosimo Francis, James, Edward, and William. Joe was a graduate of Clifton Heights High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Marine Corps attaining the rank of Sergeant.

He was retired as a salesman from Shanahan’s Express. He was a longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Essington where he served the church in many capacities including Vestry. He was a member of the West End Boat Club, Penn Oaks Golf Club, Philadelphia, Norristown, and Wilmington Traffic Clubs, and the Chester Rotary Club.

Joe was a Philadelphia sports enthusiast, golfer, bowler, avid traveler, and a supporter of the American Field Services USA as a host parent.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Joe is the husband of the late Lillian Beard Battista, who passed away in 2003.

He is survived by his son, Joseph John Battista, Jr. and his wife, Olga; his grandchildren Alexa and Adriana and his brothers Cosimo Frances and James Battista..

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 20th, at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 16 West Third Street, in Essington, Pa. His visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the church. His entombment will be in Lawn Croft Cemetery Mausoleum in Lower Chichester, Pa.

Sylvia M. Langan

Sylvia M. Langan, 79, a resident of Upper Darby, passed away on April 15, 2013.

Sylvia was born in Connecticut and also lived in Philadelphia before residing in Upper Darby. In her spare time she enjoyed classical music and singing in multiple church choirs.

She worked at various jobs at different times in her life retiring from a county court house position. Her favorite pastime and occupation remained as a wife and mother. She will be missed by her friends and family.

Survivors: Sylvia was the beloved wife of John E. “Jack” Langan for 58 years and loving mother of John E. Langan, Jr. and Bruce (Victoria) Langan. She was also survived by her dear brother Paul Fejko.

Her funeral service and burial will be private.

Naomi Germroth Gosnell

Naomi Gosnell, 90, homemaker and committed member of Olivet Presbyterian Church died on March 30, 2013 at her home in Rosemont Presbyterian Village in Bryn Mawr, Pa.

Naomi was born in Baltimore, Maryland and moved to Pennsylvania with her husband Bradley in 1941. Naomi was a member of Olivet Church since 1940’s where she was active in the Sunday school, Women’s Organization and was ordained as a Ruling Elder and Deacon. She was well known for her kindness, hospitality, gracious entertaining and delicious cooking, both at her home in Ridley Park and her summer home in North East, Maryland. She was involved with the Red Cross blood drives and over time donated 3 gallons of blood, for which she received letters of commendation. In her later years she moved to Rosemont Presbyterian Village where she volunteered and was active in many of the community activities.

Naomi is predeceased by Bradley, her husband of 64 years and her son Larry.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon Gosnell Shomette, son-in-law Dale, daughter-in-law Ann Gosnell; her four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be on Saturday, April 27, at 10 A.M. at Olivet Presbyterian Church, 1001 Washington Ave, in Prospect Park, Pa. 19076. Her visitation will begin at the church at 9 A.M.Her burial, following the service, will be at Edgewood Memorial Park, in Glen Mills, Pa.

Donations: to Olivet Presbyterian Church, 1001 Washington Ave, Prospect Park, PA 19076.
