Julia "Julie" "Jules" Culpepper Bowen Halperin Toney

Julia “Julie” “Jules” Culpepper Bowen Halperin Toney, who was 64, passed away on September 4, 2014 at the Crozer-Keystone Hospice Residence at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.

Julie and her late husband, Kenneth Toney, moved from Media to Folsom, Pa. in the early 1980’s. Julie was born in Bethesda, Maryland to Delavan Rawlins Bowen and Naval Capt. Alva Manly Bowen on June 14, 1950. After graduating from high school, she declined an acceptance to MIT and attended Swarthmore College where she was in the Class of 1972. Julie worked at various odd jobs among them including the repairing of player pianos in Moylan, Pa. and doing computer work, but she was always pursuing her first love, Mathematics.

She is survived by her brother, Gerald Bowen and several nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.

There will be a Memorial Service and Celebration of her Life on Saturday, September 27 th, at 11 A.M., at Swarthmore Friends Meeting House on the campus of Julie’s beloved Swarthmore College, 12 Whittier Place, Swarthmore, Pa. 19081 for all of Julie’s friends and family members. (Please come to share your memories, stories, and thoughts about Julie).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Julie’s name to Crozer-Keystone Hospice Residence at Taylor Hospital, 175 E. Chester Pike, Ridley Park, Pa. 19078 would be appreciated.

Jaclyn N. "Jackie" Visnyiczke

Jaclyn N. “Jackie” (Nee Waldt) Visnyiczke, age 26, of Linwood, Pa., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.

Jackie was loved by all family and friends alike because of her infectious personality and laughter. She became head teller of TD Bank in Boothwyn by working hard and putting her best foot forward. Even her customers loved her.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by her beloved husband, Cody. She was the loving mother of Adrianna and Scarlet. She was the cherished daughter of Lewis and Mary Anne Waldt and dear sister of Kevin and Amanda Waldt.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Monday, September 8 th, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Monday from 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be private.

Wayne E. Grindle, Jr.

Wayne E. Grindle, Jr., 63, a resident of the Lester section of Tinicum Township, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2014 at Crozer-Keystone Hospice at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.

Born in Brownsville, Pa., he was the son of the late Wayne and Wilma Grindle. He was employed as a Medical Imaging Technician and Officer Manager at Medical Imaging in Essington, Pa. for a number of years before becoming ill. Prior to that, he worked in the Aircraft Refueling Service at the Philadelphia International Airport. Wayne was also a retired Ohio State Police Trooper, where he served during the 1970’s.

An avid outdoorsman, Wayne enjoyed many outdoor activities including boating, fishing and camping.

SURVIVORS: His wife Debra; his sons, Wayne III, Matthew, and Victor; his step-children, Debra Miller and Michael James Sullivan, Jr.; his sisters, Carroll Grindle and Kim Moody; and his 6 grandchildren.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Will be held on Saturday, September 6 th, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074

VISITATION: Will be held on Saturday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be private.

Lucy Thomas Hermann

Lucy Thomas Hermann, age 95, peacefully left this earth on Friday, August 29, 2014 at Lima Estates.

Raised in Conshohocken and Prospect Park, she graduated from Prospect Park High School. Lucy was a resident of Norwood for over 50 years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, past member of Norwood’s Citizens’ Fourth of July Committee, and the Glenolden Swim Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hermann, her sister Aldia Stilwell, and her brother John Thomas.

SURVIVORS: Her daughter Holly (Joe) Rhoads, her son William (Penny) Hermann, and her two grandsons, Matthew and Thomas Rhoads.

SERVICE AND INTERMENT: Will be private.

Barbara Ann McCloskey

Barbara Ann (Hardy) (Grabowski) McCloskey, 81, a longtime resident of Norwood, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara graduated from John W. Hallahan High School in 1951. She was a member of the Red Hatters of Delaware County and was a member of the Mothers’ Club of St. Gabriel Roman Catholic Church in Norwood.

Barbara will be remembered as a woman who was devoted to her home and family.

SURVIVORS: Her husband, George McCloskey, to whom she would have been married 61 years on October 10th; her children, Donna O’Connor (Raymond), Timothy McCloskey (Janet), Kelly Wolfe (Martin), Brian McCloskey (Helenann), Kathleen McVeigh (John), and Gavin McCloskey (Mary); her 14 grandchildren; and her 3 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL MASS: Will be celebrated on Saturday, August 30 th, at 12 Noon, at St. Gabriel Roman Catholic Church, Seminole and Mohawk Avenues, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Friday, August 29 th, from 7 P.M. to 9 P.M. and on Saturday, August 30 th, from 10 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

BURIAL: Will be private.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Barbara’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.

Dawn Jones White

Dawn Jones White, 58, a lifelong resident of Prospect Park, lost her battle with ovarian cancer after 4 years of fighting, on August 23, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Born February 10, 1956 to Virgie (2011) and Orville Jones (1983). Dawn was the oldest of three children, the others being Sherrin and Neil (1984). A lifelong resident of Prospect Park, Dawn was very proud of her community. She graduated from Interboro High School in 1974. She was a member of the Prospect Park Free Library Board, Prospect Park Borough Council, Prospect Park Young Republicans, and was also a Notary Public.

Dawn was employed by American College in Bryn Mawr as an executive office manager to the college’s Chief Financial Officer and loved her job and the people she worked with. She was an avid collector of gumball machines, (she owns over 180) and also was a collector of antiques. She enjoyed camping, writing poetry, and convertibles. She was also a huge fan of boombah music, and computer and Nintendo games.

SURVIVORS: She will be dearly missed by her husband of 33 years, Richard; her three children, Erica, Neil ( Erin), and Gene; her two grandsons, Curtis and Cooper, and also many lifelong friends.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Will be held on Thursday, August 28 th, at 6 P.M., at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Thursday from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be private.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Dawn’s memory to the Prospect Park Free Library, 720 Maryland Avenue, Prospect Park, Pa. 19076 would be appreciated.

Richard D. "Dick" Roberts

Richard D. (Dick) Roberts, 83, of Collingale, Pa., died August 16, 2014 at the Taylor Hospice House in Ridley Park, Pa.

Son of the late Leroy and Marion (nee Klinkhammer) Roberts, he was born and raised on a small farm in Eddyville, Iowa. Mr. Roberts entered the Army in 1952; upon his discharge in 1954 he settled and resided in Collingdale for the remainder of his life.

Mr. Roberts took a position with Gulf Oil Corp. and served in various positions with the company, retiring in 1982. Mr. Roberts was active as a real estate agent and worked with a variety of agencies throughout the Delaware Valley. Mr. Roberts was an avid tennis player and fan and could give anyone a good match if they were willing.

Along with his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Emma (nee Girard), who died in 2011.

SURVIVORS: He is survived by his children, Richard (Joan) Roberts, Michael (Mary) Roberts, Paul (Millie) Roberts, and Don (Elaine) McClosky. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Karen, Michael, Tara, Don, Jr., Eric, Krysta, Mark, Kim, and Amy; and his 13 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Wednesday, August 20 th, at 11 A.M., at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Wednesday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be in Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill.

Helen A. Hudak

Helen A. Hudak, 87, a 58 year resident of Prospect Park, died Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Crozer-Keystone Hospice at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park surrounded by her family.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Socha. Mrs. Hudak was a graduate of West Catholic Girls High School in Philadelphia.

She enjoyed playing bingo, spending time on the beach, and trips to the casinos. Most of all, she will be remembered as a woman who was devoted to her home and family.

She was the wife of the late John F. Hudak and the mother of the late Diane Marucci.

SURVIVORS: Her children, Kathy Hudak, Mary Lou (Craig) Lafreniere, John Hudak, Jr., and Charles (Jean) Hudak; her grandchildren, Stephen, Elizabeth, Ryan, Allison, Jack, Brittany, Jessica, Charlie, Scott, Jill, and Mark. She is also survived by her three great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL MASS: Will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 13 th, at 11 A.M. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Mohawk & Seminole Avenues, in Norwood.

VISITATION: Will be on Wednesday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the church.

BURIAL: is private.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908 would be appreciated.

Katherine A. Clark

Katherine A. Clark of Folcroft, Pa., passed away peacefully on August 4, 2014 at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Hazelton, Pa. and grew up on the eastern shores of Long Island, N.Y. Katherine married the love of her life, Clarence “Whistle” Clark and soon after moved to Folcroft, Pa. where they began a lifelong adventure raising 4 beautiful daughters.

Katherine was the past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post # 507 and a life member of both the Legion and V.F.W. Post # 7213. She was also a member of the Legion of Honor of the Chapel of the Four Chaplains in Philadelphia.

Katherine was a fabulous homemaker and an accomplished seamstress making all of her daughters’ wedding dresses as well as many of the uniforms and flags for the 507 Hornets Drum & Bugle Corps. She loved to crochet and had a passion to travel the world, particularly sunny Aruba.

SURVIVORS: Katherine is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, “Whistle”, along with her children; Laura & Steve, Kipper & Frank, Valerie & Kevin, JoAnn & Jim; and ten grandchildren; Tim, Ken, Erin, Katie, Jaime, Scott, Kim, Nate, Jera, and Mandolin. In addition, Katherine has eleven amazing great-grandchildren; Flynn, Aubrey, Kevin, Andre, Erik, Markus, Nathan, Ava, Abby, Jaylen, and Jace.

As Whistle always said, “Katherine is “MyTweeter”, the love of my life.”

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Friday, August 8 th, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Thursday evening August 7 th, from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M. and again on Friday morning from 9:30 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

ENTOMBMENT: Will be in Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, Pa.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, donations made in her memory can be sent either to the American Legion Post # 507 and/or to V.F.W. Post # 7213, both in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

Thomas F. Lafferty

Thomas F. Lafferty, 77, passed away on August 1, 2014 at the Taylor Hospice House in Ridley Park.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a resident of Chester and Aston before his late residence of Newtown Square.

He was the son of the late Lawrence and Mary Lafferty and was predeceased by his brothers William and Robert Lafferty.

Before retiring, he was the CEO and President of his own company, TFL Industries. He was previously employed at Boeing, Warner Concrete, and Waste Management. He was the owner of Warner Concrete after being employed there. He sold the business to concentrate on other businesses, such as three Blockbuster stores, a fulfillment company, real estate, and the Brown Derby Restaurant in Toughkenamon, Pa.

He was a 1956 graduate of St. James High School in Chester, Pa. He enjoyed years of boating with family and friends and a summer home on the Chesapeake Bay. In winters it was going to his home in St. Croix, U.S.V.I.

SURVIVORS: His wife of 55 years, Diane (Machette) Lafferty; his daughter, Denise Lafferty; his sons, Michael, David, and Joseph Lafferty; his grandson, Aiden Lafferty; many nieces and nephews; and many friends and extended family.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be on Thursday, August 7 th, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Wednesday, August 6 th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Thursday, August 7 th, from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be in Edgewood Memorial Park in Glen Mills, Pa.
