Donald Hugh Frazier, Jr.

Donald Hugh Frazier, Jr., 43, a resident of the Lester section of Tinicum Township, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2014 surrounded by his family at the Taylor Hospice House in Ridley Park.

Don will be remembered as an avid sports fan who followed all the Philadelphia sports teams.

SURVIVORS: His daughters, Alyssa and Amanda Frazier; his son, Joshua Frazier; his mother, June Tucker; his father, Donald H. Frazier, Sr.; and his brothers, Charles and Rony Frazier.

VISITATION: Friends may call on Tuesday, June 10 th, from 10:30 A.M. to 12 Noon, at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

BURIAL: Will be private.

Charles A. O'Brien, Jr.

Charles A. O’Brien, Jr., 77, of Collingdale and formerly of Folcroft, passed away on Friday, May 30 th.

He was born in Philadelphia the son of Charles and Elisabeth O’Brien also of Philadelphia. He served in the Air Force for four years and worked for Picker International and the Thomas Jefferson Hospital Group.

He loved his vacations in Maine on the Schooner Heritage and in the United Kingdom with his wife, Maureen.

He was predeceased by his son, Michael.

He leaves behind his wife, Maureen; his children, Kevin, Andrew, and Sharon; lots of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also his sister, Claire of Florida and his brother, Terry, of Trooper, Pa.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, June 6 th, at 11 A.M. at Lawn Croft Cemetery on Ridge Road in Linwood, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made to S.P.C.A. of Delaware County, 555 Sandy Bank Road, Media, Pa. 19063.

John (Jack) David Depew, Sr.

John (Jack) David Depew, Sr., 89, a resident of Prospect Park, Pa. for 83 years, passed away early Monday, May 27, 2014, at his home. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father who gave of his time to support his family, community, and church.

Born in Philadelphia to the late George Elmer Depew and Matty Smith Depew, he spent most of his life in Prospect Park where he attended Prospect Park High School before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps to fight in World War II. He was a survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima where a head wound earned him a Purple Heart.

After the war he worked at John Wanamaker’s before going to work at the Westinghouse Corporation.

In 1952 he married the woman he would love and share his life with for over 61 years, Jean Marie Preston of Prospect Park.

Jack served on the Prospect Park Borough Council and then the Borough’s Zoning Board for close to 30 years. He was a volunteer at the Prospect Park Fire Company for 75 years and was honored with a Life Membership in recognition of his service.

Jack was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church for 80 years and served as an Elder and then a Deacon. He was also active with the local Boy Scouts.

Always active in the community, he was a member and Past President of the Prospect Park 4 th of July Committee, Prospect Park High School Alumni Association, the Westinghouse Square Club, and the National 5 th Marine Division Association. Recognized for his community service, he was named “Citizen of the Year” by the Prospect Park 4 th of July Committee.

SURVIVORS: His loving wife, Jean; his daughter, Karen (Steve); his son, David (Diane); his grandson, Michael; his sister, Jane; and his brother, Ed.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Will be held on Thursday, June 12 th, at 11 A.M. at Olivet Presbyterian Church, 1001 Washington Avenue, in Prospect Park, Pa. 19076.

VISITATION: Will be on Thursday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the church.

BURIAL: Will be private at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, Pa.

CONTRIBUTIONS: Made in Jack’s memory to Olivet Presbyterian Church at the above address or to Taylor Hospice, P.O. Box 147, Ridley Park, Pa. 19078 would be appreciated.

Kathleen McHenry Brandt

Kathy McHenry Brandt, 60, beloved wife of Wayne M. Brandt, loving mother of John and Adam Farrar and daughter-in-law Nina Armstrong, devoted grandmother of Nathan, Adriana, Veronica, Alexis, Skylar, Marissa, Gina and Colby, died at her home on May 16 th, 2014 after a long courageous battle with cancer. She is also survived by her sisters, Susan (Eric Zerbe) and Lynn (Arthur Patchefsky), nieces Jamie and Michal, and nephews Eric and Drew. Her husband’s mother and sisters (Ruth, Robyn and E.J., Dale and Kimberly) became her mother and sisters.

Mrs. Brandt was an Account Executive at Hare, Chase and Heckman for thirty years. Mrs. Brandt was known to her friends as one of the kindest and most generous persons with a special zest for life.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21 st, from 2 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood. Burial is private.

The family suggest contributions to the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, 3400 Civic Center Blvd., Suite 1, Philadelphia, Pa. 19104 or to Penn Medicine Wissahickon Hospice, 150 Monument Road, Bala Cynwyd, Pa. 19004.

Charles Silvie Weindel

Charles Silvie Weindel, age 91, formerly of Essington, Pa., passed away at the home of his son Charles V. Weindel on May 2, 2014 with his family in attendance.

Born in Essington, Pa., he was the son of the late Edward and Dehlia Weindel. Charles was the loving husband of the late Kathryn Weindel and caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather of his family. Charles was a veteran of World War II, who served in the Army in Anzio during his service time. He sailed for many years as a Merchant Seaman for Sunoco Oil Company. Charles eventually retired from the Boeing Company. His lifetime passion was playing the “ponies” and poker. In his earlier years, he also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and woodworking. He was a lifelong Phillies and Eagles fan.

SURVIVORS: His children, Edward and Rita Weindel, Dee Rose Rathke, Charles V. and Cherie Weindel, and Eva and Steven Visco; his grandchildren, Jennifer Seaman, Heather Weindel-Irons, and Lindsay Weindel, Christopher Weindel, Melissa Stolle, Whitney and Gretchen Rathke, Stephanie, Vittoria, Steven and Antonio Visco, and his great-grandchildren, Jordan Stephney and Christian Irons.

COMMUNION SERVICES AND INTERMENT: Will be held on Saturday, May 10th, at 11 A.M., at The Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist, 16 West Third Street, in Essington, Pa. 19029.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, contributions made to the Delaware County SPCA, 555 Sandy Bank Road, Media, Pa. 19063 610-566-1370 would be appreciated.

Howard Robert Stade, Jr.

God called my beloved son, Howard Robert Stade, Jr., home to Heaven after a long courageous battle on May 2, 2014.

Howard was born in Philadelphia. He grew up in Ridley Park, Pa. He graduated from Ridley Senior High School. He graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. in Accounting. He then went on to earn a double Masters Degree in Business and Finance from Penn State University.

He worked as a Deputy Controller for Bryn Mawr Rehab. He then went on to work for SMS. He travelled the world as an Educator for his last job at Siemens Medical where he made lots of friends who became part of his family. He was very involved in his church, Saints Simon and Jude in West Chester.

He is predeceased by his little brother Frank William Stade and his father, Howard Robert Stade, Sr.

He leaves behind his beloved mother, Estelle Stade. He leaves behind his sister, Beth (Dan) McCarthy and his nephews, Sean and Matthew.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 9th, at 10 A.M. at Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court, in West Chester, Pa. 19832.

His burial will follow afterword.

John C. MacIntyre

John C. MacIntyre, ( Cal), 86, of Swarthmore, Pa., died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Taylor Hospice House, Ridley Park, Pa.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of the late Arthur and the late Sarah Jane (Nee Norcross) MacIntyre. Most of his childhood was spent in the Holmes section of Ridley Township. Cal, as he was known, was employed by the United States Postal Service. He also served in the United States Navy and Naval Reserves where he retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting, Ridley football and traveling. Cal was a lifetime member of the Holmes Fire Company and was a member of the National Lighthouse Society of America. He was devoted to his faith as a life long member of the Holmes Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Trustee as well as a member of the Nominating Committee.

Predeceased by his sister, Charity Lorene Founds and brother, Edgar Norcross MacIntyre, and his beloved wife of 62 years, Jane (nee Russo) MacIntyre.

Survivors include: his three daughters: Susan Waldie, Folsom; Cynthia Smith, West Chester; Sharon (Allen) Willis, Wallingford; his son, John Dale MacIntyre, Swarthmore; sisters, Christine Kuhlberg and Sarah Jane Apakian; brother, Robert MacIntyre; his grandchildren, Tim (Lynn), Erin-Michelle, Sean, Brian, Aaron and Jaclyn, and great-grandchild, Patrick; as well as several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 11 A.M. at Holmes Presbyterian Church, 375 Holmes Road, Holmes, Pa. 19043.

VISITATION: Will be on Tuesday from 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the Holmes Presbyterian Church.

BURIAL: Will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Milmont Park, Pa. with full military honors.

Dorothy L. Younkin

Dorothy L. Younkin, 98, of Glenolden and formerly of Ridley Park, the Eastwick section of Philadelphia and Wildwood Crest, N.J., passed away on April 20, 2014 at the Taylor Hospice House in Ridley Park.

She was the wife of the late Victor Younkin and Herbert Gressel.

Dorothy was the devoted mother of Lee H. Gressel (Sandi) and the late Gary L. Gressel (Lori).

She was the daughter of the late Harry and Ella Link and sister of the late Fred (Frances) and George (Isabel) Link.

She is also predeceased by her beloved companions, Edmond Suez and George Thomson, Jr.

Dorothy was also survived by her grandchildren, Jeffrey and Gregory Gressel, Kim Gressel Abbott and Kristen Gressel Smith; and her great-grandchildren, Amber, Bradley, and Ellen.

Family and friends are invited to her Memorial Service on Saturday, May 17th, at 11 A.M. at Christ Episcopal Church, Sellers Avenue and Nevin Street, in Ridley Park, Pa.

Frances F Piccioni

Frances F. Piccioni was called to heaven April 9, 2014 at the age of 71. She is survived by her husband of 55 years Richard Piccioni. Her daughters Frances A. Piccioni (Joe Dalton Abshire), Jacqueline Reusch (Mark O’Rangers), Stacey Piccioni (John Wright), her son, Richard Piccioni (Dawn Piccioni),

Her grandchildren, Ricky Vassell (Justine Vassell), Ryan Vassel, Alex Mszanecky, Payton Piccioni, Christopher Piccioni, and Julianna Wright. Also survived by her great-grandchildren Ricky Vassell and Jake Vassell.

Frances worked part-time for Kmart, she loved animals very much, she loved spending all her free time with her family and she lived telling jokes and having fun with her many friends.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be on Tuesday, April 15th, 2014, at 7 P.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike in Norwood.

VISITATION: Will be on Tuesday from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be private.

Lorraine Dunn Barry

Lorraine Dunn Barry, formerly of Basking Ridge, N.J. and Newtown Square, Pa., passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the age of 90. She was born to the late James Quinlan and Elsa (nee Sanger) Dunn in Chicago, Illinois on April 24, 1923. She had one brother, William J., who preceded her in death in 2004 at the age of 78.

Lorraine proved to be a resilient individual who overcame the uncertainties of life, the greatest of which may have been moving to Coventry Home for Children in Princeton, Illinois from age 7 to 12, when her parents divorced and could not afford to raise her during the Great Depression. Despite these struggles, Lorraine endeavored with great courage, kindness and grace.

Growing beyond the challenges of her situation, she became a skilled artist, a craftswoman and a professional in the field of nursing. This transformation was achieved through constant striving. After receiving her GED at age 45 she attended Somerset County Technical School and earned a nursing degree in 1968, graduating at the head of her class. This was followed by a rewarding career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Overlook Hospital in Summit, N.J. Adventurous in retirement, she moved to Roswell, NM and then Evansville, IN before returning to NJ in 1999.

In 1948, Lorraine married Lawrence Benson and was blessed with her three surviving children: Laurel Bixby of Newtown Square, Pa., Carla Benson of Flemington, NJ, and David (Brenda) Benson of Wayne, NJ. Additionally, she is survived by two grandchildren, Michael and Matthew (Nicole) Benson and two great-grandchildren, Evan and Alyssa. Lorraine imparted her love for art to her children. She was skilled at and capable of working in many mediums, though she displayed a particular fondness and proficiency for oil painting. Lorraine loved cats, and thoroughly enjoyed traveling, reading and sewing.

She will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind, but they will remember her as a very loving and kind-hearted woman who was considerate of others and chose to live life fully and without fear, despite the challenges and artificial restrictions of earthly boundaries.

Lorraine had requested a private burial and funeral; she will be laid to rest in Basking Ridge, NJ. The family wishes to thank all of those who loved her and cared for her over the years.

Maude Deitrich Murphy

Maude Deitrich Murphy, 88, a former longtime resident of Aldan, died on April 4, 2014 at Vitas Hospice at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby.

Maude was a resident of Aldan for 63 years before becoming a resident of St. Francis Country House in Darby 5 years ago.

Born in Good Spring, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Deitrich. Maude was a graduate of Porter Tower High School in Tower City, Pa., Class of 1942 where she was Class Salutatorian. She then attended business school in Harrisburg, Pa. where she met her husband, James, to whom she was married for 66 years until his death in 2012.

Maude enjoyed reading, letter writing, and crossword puzzles. Most of all, she will be remembered as a women who was devoted to her home and family.

SURVIVORS: Her daughters, Maureen Craskey and Patricia Quinn; her sons, James E. Murphy, Jr. and Philip Murphy; her sister, Carolyn Paul; her 10 Grandchildren; and her 8 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL MASS: Will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 9 th, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 500 Woodlawn Avenue, in Collingdale.

VISITATION: Will be on Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Church.

BURIAL: Will be in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Marple Township.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Maude’s memory to The Make-A-Wish Foundation, One Valley Square, Suite133, 512 Township Line Road, Blue Bell, Pa. 19422 would be appreciated.
