Clara B. Bort

Clara B. Bort, 86, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2014 at the Prospect Park Care Center..

Born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 1, 1928, part of her childhood was spent in the Belgian Congo, Africa, where her parents were missionaries. She was the daughter of the late Fred Sr. and Myrtle Bort.

Clara was raised in Norwood, Pa. and graduated from Glen-Nor High School in 1948. She graduated from the Philadelphia College of the Bible. Clara dedicated her life to the Lord, and worked full time for the Christian Literature Crusade, headquartered at Fort Washington, Pa.

As a missionary, she served in the country of Pakistan for 5 years, Montreal, Canada for 7 years, Northfield, New Jersey, and then at the Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia store. During her retired years, she lived at home in Norwood with her brother, John, and then at the Prospect Park Care Center, where she continued her lifestyle of giving away books to her fellow residents there.

Clara is currently a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Glenolden.

SURVIVORS: Her brothers, John Bort and Fred (Dolores) Bort, Jr.; and her several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Saturday, December 6th, at 10 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Saturday from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be in Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Broomall, Pa.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Clara’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Glenolden, 2 S. Chester Pike, Glenolden, Pa. 19036 would be appreciated.

James Joseph Mignogna, Sr.

James Joseph Mignogna, Sr., 56, a resident of Prospect Park, died suddenly on December 1, 2014 at his home.

He was the son of the late Vincent and Eileen Mignogna.

James enjoyed watching the Eagles and spending time with his family.

SURVIVORS: His loving wife of 23 years, Lisamarie; his two loving children, Brittany Marie and James Joseph, Jr.; his two grandchildren, Dylan James and Sophia Marie; and his siblings, Michael, Vincent, and Maria Sciarretta.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Will be held on Saturday, December 6th, at 4 P.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Saturday from 3 P.M. to 4 P.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be private.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions in made in his memory to the Delaware County SPCA, 555 Sandy Bank Road, Media, Pa. 19063 would be appreciated.

Franklin P. "Mac" McCullough, Jr.

Franklin P. “Mac” McCullough, Jr., 85, of Springfield, a man who was devoted to his family, died on November 18, 2014 at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media.

Born in Ridley Park, Pa., he was the son of the late Franklin P. and Margaret McCullough.

Frank lived in Springfield for the past 56 years and enjoyed spending summers for many years at his residence in Ocean City, N.J. He worked for many years as a self-employed aluminum siding contractor until his retirement.

Frank will be remembered for his many long stories he shared with family and friends and for his great sense of humor. He enjoyed spending his mornings with his friends over coffee at Dunkin Donuts. Most of all, Frank will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He is the husband of the late Margaret D. McCullough and was also predeceased by his daughter, Deborah Lynn Rasso.

SURVIVORS: His son, Frank P. McCullough, III; his daughter, Patricia Susan McGrath; his brother, Douglas McCullough; his sister, Priscilla Gorney; his grandchildren, Christine, Joey, Paul, Stephen, Kimberly, and Ryan; and his great-grandchildren, Austin, Aidan, and Zoe.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Monday, November 24th, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Sunday, November 23 rd, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. and on Monday, November 24th, from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be at Edgewood Memorial Park in Glen Mills, Pa.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Frank’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 would be appreciated.

Eleanor P. Foreaker

Eleanor P. Foreaker, (Nee Pike), age 99, a longtime resident of Prospect Park, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2014.

Born in 1915 in Chester, Pa., Eleanor graduated from Chester High School in 1934.

She was predeceased by her husband, George Foreaker, Sr., her parents Fred and Grace Pike, her siblings Elizabeth Pike, Hazel Albany, and Fred “Bud” Pike.

SURVIVORS: Her son, George Foreaker, Jr.; her daughter, Beth Foreaker Martone; her three grandchildren; her six great-grandchildren; and her one great-great-grandchild.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Will be held on Friday, November 21 st, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike in Norwood, Pa. 19074

VISITATION: Will be on Friday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be private.

Margaret E. "Peggy" Hammond

Margaret E. “Peggy” Hammond, 87, a longtime resident of Prospect Park, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2014 at Crozer-Keystone Hospice at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.

She was a resident of Prospect Park since 1952. Peggy was the daughter of the late Earl Thomas and Almeda Cloud.

She worked as a bookkeeper for A & P Markets at various stores in the area for 46 years until her retirement in 1987.

Peggy was a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church in Ridley Park where she served for many years on the Altar Guild. She was a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post # 928 in Folsom for many years.

She was the wife of the late Charles E. Hammond, who died in 1997.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by her brothers, Charles Cloud and Earl Thomas Cloud, Jr.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Holy Eucharist with Burial Office will be celebrated on Thursday, November 20th, at 11 A.M. at Christ Episcopal Church, Sellers Avenue and Nevin Street, in Ridley Park, Pa. 19078.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends at the church following the service and burial.

BURIAL: Will be in the Church Memorial Garden immediately following the service.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Peggy’s memory to Christ Episcopal Church at the above address would be appreciated.

Elwood "Woody" Smith

In loving memory of Elwood “Woody” Smith, 71, of Folsom (formerly Essington) passed away on Tuesday, July 14th, 2015.

Born in Nanticoke, Pa., Woody spent his childhood in Pennsylvania.

At the age of 17, he enlisted into the United States Navy. While in the service he met his wife Ruth (formerly of Norwood) and married in September 1968. After 21 years and 4 tours to Vietnam he retired from the Navy, a Four Star Vietnam Veteran. He worked as a maintenance mechanic and in environmental services over the last several years until he retired in 2008.

He is survived by his wife Ruth of Folsom; his son David Smith of Glen Mills; his daughter and son-in-law Laura and Dante Milbert of Norwood; his 3 grandchildren, Brenna, Dante, and Vincent of Norwood; his sister, Debra Wellington of Havertown; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral services will be private.

Dee Edward Wagner

Dee Edward Wagner, 61, a longtime resident of Tinicum Township, passed away on July 13, 2015 at his residence.

Born in Chester, he was the son of the late Alkana and Minnie Wagner.

He was predeceased by his brother, Neal Wagner, and his sister, Elizabeth Glessner.

SURVIVORS: He is survived by his brother, John Wagner; his sisters, Vale Middleton, Marlene (Henry) Lesher, and Dale (Michael) Kratochwill; and his several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Saturday, July 18th, at 10 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Saturday from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be in Edgewood Memorial Park in Glen Mills, Pa.

Jason Thomas Gilchrist

Jason Thomas Gilchrist, born August 21, 1986, beloved son of Karen Pollis Gilchrist Sindoni and Jeffrey Thomas Gilchrist, passed into Eternal Life on July 4, 2015 into the loving arms of Our Savior, Jesus Christ. He is joined forever with his grandfathers, James Thomas Gilchrist and George Pollis, Jr.

Jason was an all-around athlete who excelled in many sports. He competed and coached at Tinicum Swim Club and Tinicum youth basketball. Jay loved life-guarding and competing in the Wildwood Shores and cheered relentlessly for his Philly teams.

He graduated from Interboro High School, Class of 2005, and went on to serve proudly in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Simpson.

Jason’s life is celebrated by all who loved him. He is survived by his parents, Karen Pollis Gilchrist Sindoni and Jeffrey Thomas Gilchrist (Christina Badurina); his brother, Troy Thomas Gilchrist (Jan, niece, Quinn), his grandmothers, Charlene Lelinski (Anthony) and Elizabeth M. Pollis; his step-grandmother, Fran Gilchrist Hare; his beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and his friends and Rio and Daniela Lindes.

A Celebration of Jason’s life will be held on Monday, July 13th, at 11 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, 356 Summit Road, in Springfield, Pa. 19064. A visitation time with his family will be on Monday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the church.
His burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Jason’s memory to the Tinicum Swim Team, P.O. Box 51, Essington, Pa. 19029 would be appreciated by his family.

Kimberly E. Corridean

Kimberly E. Corridean, 29, of Delaware County, Pa., passed away early Sunday morning, June 21, 2015.

She was born a Media native with a free spirit and sharp instinct on how to make others laugh. Kimmy enjoyed spending time with her family, watching movies and above all, time with her daughter, Gem-Gem. She was a proud mother, beloved daughter, sister, fiancé, and friend.

She is survived by fiancé John Martinez and daughter Gemma Riley Martinez; parents Eugene and Elizabeth Myers; siblings Brittney Corridean, Tammy Corridean, and Stephen Corridean.

Kimmy is now peacefully residing with her father Steven J. Corridean.

Her Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 25th, at 3 P.M. at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 360 N. Oak Avenue, in Clifton Heights, Pa. 19018. A Visitation time will be from 2 P.M. to 3 P.M. at the church.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kimmy’s memory to The Keystone Center of Delaware County, 2001 Providence Avenue, Chester, Pa. 19013 would be appreciated by the family.

John E. Kelly

John E. Kelly, 68, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015. A longtime resident of Collingdale, Pa., John was born in Darby and raised in Lansdowne, Pa.

John was a general foreman pipefitter for the Navy Yard in Philadelphia until it closed.

John will always be remembered for his sense of humor. Throughout the trials of his long illness, he kept a positive spirit and good sense of humor. During his many hospital stays, he made friends with the hospital workers from nurses to respiratory therapists to maintenance workers. Everyone loved “Mr. Kelly” and his charming personality.

SURVIVORS: John is survived by his loving wife, M. Ann Kelly; his children, Sean Kelly, Jennifer (Walt Walsh) Kelly; and James Kelly; and his siblings, Thomas (Judy) Kelly, Sister Marie Kelly, SND, Patricia (Ray) Kane, and Joan (Russell) Picus.

He is predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Anna Kelly, and his sister, Barbara Cuff.

FUNERAL MASS: Will be celebrated on Thursday, June 18th, at 11 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 500 Woodlawn Avenue, in Collingdale, Pa. 19023.

VISITATION: Will be on Thursday, June 18th, from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the church.

BURIAL: Will be private.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in John’s memory to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 500 Woodlawn Avenue, Collingdale, Pa. 19023 and would be greatly appreciated.

Barbara A. Dewar

Barbara A. Dewar, 83, a longtime resident of Prospect Park, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 8, 2015 at the Prospect Park Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catharine Harbidge.

Barbara worked for a period of time years ago in the Recorder of Deeds Office at the Delaware County Court House in Media.

She was active in the 1950 ’s in the Parent Teacher Association in the local school district. She also served as a Republican Committeewoman in Prospect Park for a number of years.

Barbara was a long time member of St. James Episcopal Church in Prospect Park. Most importantly, she will be remembered as a woman who was devoted to her home and family. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Prospect Chapter # 301.

She was the wife of the late James T. Dewar and was also predeceased by her daughter, Christine Dewar.

SURVIVORS: Barbara is survived by her children, Catherine Dewar, Karen (Chip) DellaVecchio, James (Cindy) Dewar, Thomas Dewar, and Dan (Mable) Dewar; her nine grandchildren; and her sixteen great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Saturday, June 13th, at 10:30 A.M. at St. James Episcopal Church, 11th and Lincoln Avenues, in Prospect Park, Pa.

VISITATION: Will be on Saturday from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

BURIAL: Will be in West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, Pa.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Barbara’s memory to St. James Episcopal Church, 732 11th Avenue, Prospect Park, Pa. 19076 would be appreciated.
