Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Thomas J. Doonan, Jr.

Thomas J. Doonan, Jr., 70, a resident of Glenolden, passed away on June 6, 2015 at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Doonan.

He was employed as a machinist with Amtrak for 25 years.

He served for a period of time in the U.S. Navy during the 1960’s.

Tom was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying fishing and hunting. Most of all, he just enjoyed being around his family and his friends. He will be remembered as a person who lived life to the fullest.

SURVIVORS: His daughter, Tammy (Don) McBride; his son, David Doonan; his granddaughter, Kristy; his brother, Jimmy; and his sisters, Mary and Peggy.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Will be held on Thursday, June 11th, at 4 P.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Thursday from 3 P.M. to 4 P.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be private.

Shirley Pavlicek

Shirley G. (Block) Pavlicek, age 81, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2015, in Broomall, Pa.

She was born on October 11, 1933 to parents Elizabeth and Charles Block. Shirley was born and raised in Emerson, N.J., then as a teenager, moved to Jacksonville, FL and Deposit, N.Y. During her life, Shirley worked at Sharp, in Hackensack, N.J., as a Clerk.

She married Howard F. Pavlicek on May 7, 1960 in Garfield, N.J. A few years after marrying, she became a housewife. During her married life, she lived in Garfield, N.J., Greensboro, N.C., Virginia, and Stroudsburg, Pa.

For many years to come, Shirley and Howard will always be remembered by creating multiple Chrismons for the Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church’s Christmas tree.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Charles Block; her husband Howard F. Pavlicek; her brothers Harry Block and Fred Block; her sisters Alma Block Nichols and Meta Block Lehman; and her son, Mark Pavlicek of Secane, Pa.

Shirley is survived by her sister, Jean Block Winters; her daughter, Lisa Johnston and her husband Robert Johnston; and her grandson, Eric Johnston; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 24th, at 10 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 24th, from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. at the funeral home.

Her burial will take place following the service at 2 P.M. Wednesday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Pa. She will be buried with her husband, Howard.

Marvin Galloway

Marvin Galloway, age 96, husband of the late Ethel (Gross) Galloway, passed away on May 31, 2015 at Crozer-Keystone Hospice Residence at Taylor Hospital. He is survived by his two daughters, Nancy and Lori, two grandsons, Robert and Adrian, and one great-grandson, Felix.

Marvin was born in Wilmington, DE. His youth was spent in Tinicum Township and he graduated from Ridley Park High School, Class of 1936. He survived recurrent malaria, was struck by lightening as a young man, and had a horse fall and roll on him while in the 104th Calvary.

Marvin was a World War II veteran, Korean War veteran, Atomic Veteran (Google it-you may be surprised) and a National Guardsman, before starting his career as a circuit layout engineer for Bell Telephone. He was a 50+ year member of Ridley Park United Methodist Church where he held several lay leader positions, member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Optimist Club, the Tinicum Historical Society and played guitar in the R.S.V.P. band for seniors. He also loved to accompany his talented wife Ethel when she sang.

But most importantly, he was a loving husband to Ethel (they had been married for almost 70 years when Ethel passed in 2014- we knew he was missing her terribly), and terrific Dad to Nancy and Lori, and awesome granddad to Robert and Adrian.

Marvin loved to travel. He made friends easily, as he was invariably kind and interested in people. People in turn adored him. He was a constant presence at the Ridley Sports Club Gym. He will be remembered by many for his storytelling and great sense of humor.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 11th, at Ridley Park United Methodist Church, 501 N. Swarthmore Avenue, in Ridley Park, Pa. 19078. Visitation with the family will be at 6 P.M., followed by the service at 7 P.M. (Additional parking for the service will be available in the parking lot of St. James Regional Catholic School, formally St. Madeline’s School, down the street.)

His burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be donated to Ridley Park United Methodist Church at the above address. Other contributions may be made to an organization that helps wounded or disabled veterans at www.woundedwarriorproject.org, or an organization that assists Atomic Veterans at www.naav.com

Sharon Ann Heron

In the morning of May 31, 2015, Sharon passed away in her home, peacefully in her sleep. Sharon was 57 years old after a three year battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy.

Sharon was born in Philadelphia, Pa. on December 2, 1957. She grew up in Prospect Park, Pa. and attended Interboro School District. She moved to Chadds Ford, Pa. when she married her husband, Stephen John Heron (60) in 1976.

Sharon is the proud Mother of Carolyn (Joseph) Lavella (30), Jennifer (Matthew) Wolf (28), and Stephen Heron (26). She is also the proud Grandmother of Charles and Leo Wolf and Delaney Lavella. Sharon was a devoted wife, the perfect mother anyone could have asked for, a doting grandmother and a loving sister. She lived for being a mother and a grandmother. Her children and grandchildren brought her daily joy.

Sharon was just as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She was very active in the Women’s Ministry Committee at Concord Liberty Presbyterian Church. She loved spreading God’s love. She also enjoyed crocheting, writing poetry, worshiping the Lord, vacationing with her family and gardening. Sharon was very compassionate, touching everyone’s lives who she knew in the most positive way possible.

Sharon was a stay at home mom when her children were young but she was most recently employed as a paraprofessional at Pocopson Elementary School.

In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren mentioned above, Sharon is also survived by her loving sister, Donna Lauletta, by her two brothers, Michael and James Murtha, her brother-in-law Paul Heron, her sister-in-law Vicki (Mark) Shenold and by several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Sunday, June 7th, at 4 P.M. at Concord Liberty Presbyterian Church, 256 Bethel Road, in Glen Mills, Pa. 19342.

VISITATION: Will be on Sunday, June 7th, from 2:30 P.M. to 4 P.M. at the church.

BURIAL: Will be private on Monday at Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, Pa.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made to Concord Liberty Presbyterian Church for the Barn Roof Repair Fund, 256 Bethel Road, Glen Mills, Pa. 19342 would be appreciated. The CLPC family came together and helped Sharon and her family in their time of need.

Harry Martin

Harry Martin, age 93, went home to be with the Lord on May 30, 2015 of natural causes in Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, Delaware. Mr. Martin was a resident of Luther Towers in Wilmington, Delaware, and was formally of Lester, Pa.

He is predeceased by his wife, Margaret Martin (nee Lohse) and a grandson, Anthony Cortilesso, Jr.

Mr. Martin served in the Army/Air Force during World War II in Greenland as a medic to the wounded.

He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Tinicum Lutheran Church in Essington and most recently of Concordia Lutheran Church in Wilmington, Delaware.

Mr. Martin is retired from Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Lester, Pa.

Harry enjoyed watching the Flyers and Eagles on TV, playing games on his IPad, texting on his cell phone and being with family and friends.

SURVIVORS: He is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Marsha and Tony Cortilesso of St. Georges, Delaware; June and Richard Keller of Wilmington, Delaware; and Lynn and Raymond Zatt of Virginia Beach, VA; his four grandchildren, Sheri Smith and Jonathan Keller both of Wilmington, Delaware; and Kelli Smith and Kyle Zatt both of Virginia Beach, VA; his two great-grandchildren, Julia Marie Cortilesso of St. Georges, Delaware and Avery Lynn Smith of Virginia Beach, VA. Mr. Martin was one of five siblings, his sister Harliene Martin resides in Lancaster, Pa.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Thursday, June 4th, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Thursday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be in Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Broomall, Pa.

Louis L. Martin, Jr.

Louis L. Martin, Jr., 89, died on May 26, 2015 at Maris Grove Rose Court in Glen Mills while surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Martin was a longtime resident of Prospect Park until moving to Maris Grove in 2008. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Louis L. and Ella May Martin.

Mr. Martin was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was employed as an engineering manager with Bell Atlantic for 37 years until his retirement.

He was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Norwood and was a 32nd Degree Mason associated with the Philadelphia Lodge.

Mr. Martin was known for his skill in woodworking and wood carving with many examples of his work around his home and with his family.

He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather and friend to many.

He was the husband of the late Marie J. Martin who died in 2011 and also was the father of the late Barry C. Martin.

SURVIVORS: Mr. Martin is survived by his son, Louis L. Martin, III of Prospect Park; his daughter Ree Scott (Ron) of Prospect Park; his 5 grandchildren including Kelly Horan (Mike), Ronnie Scott, and Lou Martin, IV; and his several great-grandchildren and his sister, Ruth Farley.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Will be held on Wednesday, June 3rd, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Wednesday, June 3rd, from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be private.

Mabel L. Heffelfinger

Mabel L. Heffelfinger, formerly of Conyngham, Pa., passed away on May 5, 2015 at her son’s home in Oxford, Pa. where she had resided for the past 2 ½ years.

Born in Nuremberg, Pa. on August 8, 1917, she was the daughter of the late William and Sarah (Klase) Troy.

Mabel graduated from Nuremberg High School, received a bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg State Teachers College, and earned a master’s degree from Lehigh University.

A former teacher and reading specialist, Mabel retired in 1984 from the Hazleton Area School District. She was a member of HAEA, PSEA, and NEA. Mabel was active in the Parent Teacher Association, serving as an officer at both local and state levels. In her retirement, she continued to tutor children in developmental and remedial reading.

Mabel was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Conyngham, Pa.

In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin F. Heffelfinger, who passed away in 2012, and by brothers Ralph, Harold, Victor, Hurbe, and Clair Troy.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by a daughter, Jill Schaffer, and her husband Robert, of Slatington, Pa.; a son, Dr. Eric Heffelfinger of Oxford, Pa.; granddaughters Krista and Sarah Heffelfinger, and several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: A visitation period will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, Pa. 19074.

Mabel’s memorial service and interment in the Nuremberg Cemetery will be private.

Ella Spadaccini

Elsa Spadaccini, 80, passed away peacefully at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park on April 11, 2015.

Born in Italy, Elsa moved to the United States in 1957 and most recently resided in Aston. Despite her many talents and hobbies, her family was always her proudest achievement. A skilled seamstress, she worked for various bridal shops in the area before she retired.

She was a dedicated wife to her late husband, Peter, and a loving mother to her children and grandchildren.

SURVIVORS: Elsa is survived by her children, Peter (Lorraine), Robert (Joan), Tino, and Fabian (Shawn) Spadaccini; her grandchildren, Richard (Jennifer), Krystina, Joey, Gina, Kimberly, Gabriel, and Vienna; and her great-grandchildren, Richard Jr., Giovanna, and Chayce.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Her Memorial Service will be held privately.

Mabel "Mae" Long Fullenlove

Mabel “Mae” Long Fullenlove, age 83, of Parkside, and a former longtime resident of Sharon Hill, died on Friday, April 10, 2015 at home.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Marlin Lee McDonald, Sr. and the late Mabel Craig McDonald. Mrs. Fullenlove was a 1949 graduate of John Bartram High School in Philadelphia. She was a resident of Parkside since 2014 having lived in Aldan prior to that; and previously having lived most of her life in Sharon Hill.

Mrs. Fullenlove was employed by the Southeast Delco School District for 18 years until her retirement in 1993; having worked in the cafeteria and then in the business office.

An accomplished and talented organist, she played at the Sharon Hill United Methodist Church where she was also a member at one time. She also played the organ at the former Trinity United Methodist Church East Lansdowne, then at the Trinity Lansdowne United Methodist Church. She was made an honorary member of both churches.

Mrs. Fullenlove is currently a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Norwood.

She was a longtime member of the Greater Federation of Women’s Clubs, having belonged to the Sharon Hill chapter.

She was also a proud to be a member of the “Red Hat Pool Babes”, which was affiliated with the national organization, the Red Hat Society, a well known women’s group.

Mrs. Fullenlove maintained a loyal and loving friendship with a group of women who met each other around the tri-state area each year for 65 years who called themselves, “The Clearview Sigma Chicks”.

In her spare time Mrs. Fullenlove enjoyed needlework, spending time on her computer, and card games.

She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Mrs. Fullenlove is the wife of the late Heywood S. “Woody” Fullenlove, who died in 1999. She is also predeceased by her first husband, Robert S. Long, who died in 1967; and her brother, M. Lee McDonald, Jr., who died in 2007.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by her sons, Robert Fullenlove of Lebanon, Pa., Bruce Fullenlove of Frederick, Maryland,

Eric R. Long of Parkside, and Russell S. Long of Drexel Hill; her daughter, Kimberly J. Morgan of Wallingford; and her nine grandchildren.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Will be held on Saturday, May 9 th, at 10 A.M., at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 128 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19078.

VISITATION: Will be on Saturday, May 9 th, from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. at the church.

BURIAL: Will be private.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Mae’s memory to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church at the above address or to Holisticare Hospice, 1131 Lancaster Avenue, # 200, Berwyn, Pa. 19312 would be appreciated.
