Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Charles H. Gaul, Jr.

Charles H. Gaul, Jr., 64, known as “Brut” to his friends, died on February 27, 2015 at his residence in Essington, Pa.

He was born on September 9, 1950 and was a resident of Tinicum Township all of his life. He was retired from Southco, Inc.

He was a 47 year member of the Tinicum Township Fire Company, where he served as a Trustee. Before the merger, he was a Life Member of the Essington Fire Company. He also served with the Tinicum Fire Police for four years.

SURVIVORS: His wife, Diane; his daughters, Kristin and Ainsley; his grandchildren, Isaiah, Madison, Jaxon, and Luke; his brothers, John (Chick) and Robert (Mick); and his sister, Carol.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Wednesday, March 4th, at 5 P.M. at St. John’s Tinicum Lutheran Church, 601 Seneca Street, in Essington, Pa. 19029

VISITATION: Will be on Wednesday from 3 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the church.

BURIAL: Will be private.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in his memory to The Tinicum Township Fire Company, P.O. Box 128, Essington, Pa. 19029 would be appreciated.

Kristen "Kris" T. Durfor

Kristen (Kris) T. Durfor, (nee Ruth Kathryn Todd), age 93, a forty-four year resident of Springfield, passed away at her home on February 24, 2015. She was born January 2, 1922 in Chester to William and May Todd and attended Chester schools Larkin and Smedley and graduating from Chester High in January 1940.

She applied her beauty, talents, and prodigious energies to a lifetime of service to others through her various volunteer and charity works. She was a long time volunteer at Perry Point Veterans Hospital, Philadelphia Veterans Hospital, and Fair Acres Geriatric Center, where she edited that facilities’ newspaper and served as a physical therapy aide, and as a “foster grandparent” with Elwyn Institute’s volunteer program.

She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary (Chester Unit 190) and served as President of the Delaware County Council (1962-1963). During her tenure she was instrumental in securing a substantial grant to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

She was also a lifelong Episcopalian and an active and dedicated member of Christ Church, Ridley Park, for sixty years. Through her volunteerism and service there, she was recognized as a pillar of that parish community.

Most of all, she was the loving heart of her family, imparting through example generosity and kindness.

Her devoted husband of sixty-six years, Charles C. Durfor, and her son, Glenn G. Durfor, predeceased her.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Carlee Durfor and son-in-law, Paul Bittner; her nephew, Frank N. Todd; her niece, Marlene Lucas; her grandniece Kimberley Todd Allie; her grandniece and goddaughter Marlena Lucas; and her cousins Joseph Amies, Patricia Amies Hubbert, and Judith Joy Hughes; as well as other beloved family, friends, and neighbors.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 11th, at 11 A.M. at Christ Church, Sellers Avenue and Nevin Street, in Ridley Park, Pa. 19078.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial donations be sent to the Alzheimers Association for Research, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, Pa. 19106.

Millard J. Downing

Millard J. Downing, 79, a resident of Riddle Village in Media, died on February 23, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Downing was a graduate of the Media High School in 1953. He served with the 9th Marine’s in Osaka, Japan. He was very proud of his Marine Corps service, discharged with the rank of Sergeant.

Mr. Downing was employed with the U.S. Post Office in Swarthmore, Pa. Leaving the post office, he entered the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State, Agency for International Development, USAID. Millard served tours of duty in Afghanistan, Tunisia, Vietnam, Laos, Mauritania, Yemen, and Kenya. From Afghanistan, he traveled to India and Nepal.

Upon retiring from the Foreign Service, Millard was employed by Hamilton Trucking Company, West Chester, Pa. He later was employed by the Haverford State Hospital as an equipment operator and driver. He retired from that position in 1997.

Millard and his wife, Wilamina, enjoyed traveling through Europe, visiting Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, France, Austria, Switzerland, northern Italy, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Ireland.

He was the son of the late Edwin H. and Ruth M. Downing. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Wilamina (Kristman) Downing, who died in 2007; and his brother, Edwin P. Downing.

His funeral service and burial in the Downing Family Plot at Mount Hope Cemetery in Aston, Pa. will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Millard’s memory to the Riddle Village Resident Support Endowment Fund, Riddle Village, 1048 West Baltimore Pike, Media, Pa. 19063 would be appreciated.

Anna A. Gaspero

Anna A. Gaspero, 87, of Woodlyn, Pa., passed peacefully in the early morning of February 22, 2015.

Anna was the daughter of the late Anthony and the late Ida Fene. She was born in Leiperville and lived most of her life in Ridley Township. She worked in the housekeeping field early on in her life. She enjoyed bingo and receiving visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Q. Gaspero; her grandson Alex J. Gustaferri, her two sisters, Marie and Madaline, and her two brothers, Danny and Anthony.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Ferris (James), and Bessie Morris (Steve); her son, Anthony Q. Gaspero, Jr.; her three sisters, Elizabeth, Jenny, and Angeline; her three grandchildren; and her two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Saturday, February 28th, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Saturday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Springfield, Pa.

Marie C. Ursone

Marie (Barton) Ursone, 93, of Parsippany, N.J., passed away peacefully at her home on February 11, 2015, with her children by her side.

Born in Norwood, Pa. on July 19, 1921, she was a longtime resident of Glenolden, Pa.

Predeceased by her husband Ralph, Marie devoted her energies to bettering the lives of her daughter, Elaine Lazor and her husband, Terry, and her son David Ursone, and his wife Lynn Bergesen. Loving grandmother to Iena, Michael, and Mandi, and six great-grandchildren, Marie devoted her energies to helping all those who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

VISITATION: A visitation time will take place on Wednesday, February 18th, from 11 A.M. to 12 Noon at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Will take place Wednesday, February 18th, at 12:30 P.M. at Edgewood Memorial Park on Baltimore Pike in Glen Mills, Pa. with her burial to follow.

John Joseph Doyle (Jack, JD)

John Joseph Doyle (Jack, JD), age 80, a resident of Ridley Park and former resident of Sharon Hill, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2015 at North Cape Center in Cape May, N.J.

Jack was born in Philadelphia and was the son of the late John A. and Margaret Doyle. He was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service at Glenolden where he worked for 37 years. He was also retired from St. Francis Country House where he worked in security for a number of years.

Jack was a lifetime member of the Folcroft Fire Company. He was also an active participant in the local AA program for 19 years. He was proud to be a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church parish in Eddystone and was a former member of the Holy Spirit Church parish in Sharon Hill.

Jack was an avid Flyers and Phillies fan and enjoyed going to AA meetings.

He was predeceased by his first wife, the love of his life, Patricia Burns Doyle and was also predeceased by his sister, Margaret Stoughton.

SURVIVORS: His daughter, Tina (Lance) Bobo of Cape May, N.J.; his granddaughter, Heather (Steve) Lewis of Cape May, N.J.; his grandson, Ethan Bobo of Cape May, N.J.; his great-grandchildren, Olivia, Cole, and Ty Lewis; his sister, Jean Verone; his brothers-in-law, Sam (Betty) Burns, John (Laura) Burns, and Nancy (Galen) Yeager all of Chambersburg, Pa.; his nieces and nephews; and many special friends that have been there for him.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Saturday, February 14th, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Saturday from 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be in New Cathedral Cemetery in Philadelphia.

Maurice Frank Fiorelli

Maurice Frank Fiorelli, 82, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2015 at the Crozer-Keystone Hospice Residence at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park surrounded by his loving family.

Frank resided in Folcroft and Glenolden and was a 50 year faithful parishioner of St. Gabriel’s Parish until recently moving to Morton and joining the parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Frank was a self-employed operator of a successful Pest Control Company.

One of his crowning moments this year was being blessed to celebrate his 60th Wedding Anniversary with the love of his life, “Lil”. He enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to have shared many vacations with his family and his faithful and loving friends, John and Rita Mancinelli. Mostly Frank was a family guy. Nothing was more important to him than his family. Frank was blessed to have his family by his side as he went to his heavenly reward. He braved Parkinson’s Disease for many years and will always be an example of strength and perseverance to his family.

SURVIVORS: Frank is the beloved husband of Lillian (Rizzo); loving father to Michael, Mary Lou Getty (Mark), Stephen (Jeanne), Paul (Ingrid), and Judy Bromley (Brian); Proud “Pop-Pop” to his 12 grandchildren, David (Carly), Mark Getty, Jr. (Jess), Gina Sheehan (Brian), Christa, Lisa, Andrew, Stephen Jr., Paul Jr., Ally, Kyle, Brian (Bromley), and Nicholas (Bromley); and his 4 great-grandchildren, Shane, Jack (Sheehan), Olivia (Getty), and Lillian (Sheehan). He was the devoted brother-in-law to Joseph Rizzo (Jane), Frances Nardy (Bruce) and Michael Rizzo (Barbara).

FUNERAL MASS: Will be celebrated on Monday, August 3rd, at 11 A.M. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 2130 Franklin Avenue, in Morton, Pa. 19070.

VISITATION: Will be on Monday from 9:30 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the church.

BURIAL: Will be private.

Madeline Eyre Farraday

Madeline Eyre Farraday, beloved daughter of David and Kelly Farraday, Jr. (Nee Griffin) passed away suddenly on July 26, 2015.

Although she was only here for a short time, her days were filled with love and she will never be forgotten. “Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.”

She is survived by her parents: David Farraday, Jr. and Kelly Farraday, her grandparents: Thomas and Michele Griffin and David and Sharon Farraday, Sr., her aunts, Kelly Farraday, Arlene Carpenter, Ally Pistilli, and Courtney Shilling, her uncles, Josh Doan, Michael Griffin, Don Carpenter, and John McGowan, her cousins, Shawn Pistilli and Gianna Doan, her great-grandmother, Mary DiAngelis, and many family members and friends.

Her funeral service and interment are private.

Esther Elaine (Shields) Hileman

Esther Elaine Hileman, 81, passed away peacefully at Masonic Village Retirement Community in Elizabethtown, Pa. on Sunday, July 19, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.

Elaine was born on August 19, 1933. She was born and raised in Prospect Park, Pa.

Elaine graduated from Prospect Park High School and then went to work at Westinghouse. She met her loving husband, Bill Hileman of 61 years. She raised three loving children, Douglas, Debra, and Donna.

While raising three children, Elaine went to school to become a Registered Nurse. This was her lifelong dream. She worked as an industrial nurse during her career.

Elaine enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her hobbies were sewing, vacationing, and attending Penn State football games.

SURVIVORS: Her husband, William Hileman; her children, Douglas Essinger-Hileman, Debra Wheeler, and Donna Le Gault; her grandchildren, William Wheeler, Thomas Essinger-Hileman, Daniel Wheeler, Elizabeth Morton, Laura Essinger-Hileman, Julie Wheeler, and Emmalyn Le Gault; her great-grandchild, Bradley Wheeler.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Friday, July 24th, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Friday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will follow the service and be at Edgewood Memorial Park, 325 Baltimore Pike, in Glen Mills, Pa. 19342.

Luncheon to follow the burial and will be at 1244 Woodsview Drive, in Garnet Valley, Pa. 19060
