Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Miriam E. Bower

Miriam E. (nee Lee) Bower, age 94, a resident of Leedom Estates, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2015.

She was the beloved wife of the late Harry W. Bower.

Miriam was a devoted wife and mother.

She is the loving mother of Linda Casertano of Secane, Pa. and Susan Sall and her husband, Martin, of Cherry Hill, N.J. She is the dear grandmother of Kim and Nick Casertano.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Thursday, September 3rd, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Thursday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be in West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, Pa.

CONTRIBUTIONS: As Miriam was a World War II bride, the family requests contributions in her memory to the USO, P.O. Box 96869, Washington, DC 20077.

Renee Marie Bannon

On August 25, 2015, Renee Bannon died suddenly at the young age of 33.

Renee lived a life driven by the core parts of herself that made her who she was from youth into adulthood. Her passionate love and care for animals and children, her quick wit and a strength to always find a way to do what she wanted to do made Renee who she was.

She is survived by her father, John T. Bannon, Jr. (Sherry); her sister, Gina Bannon Castelli (Chris); her step-sisters, Lindsay Smith and Courtney Smith; her nieces and nephews, Christopher, Antoinette, and LillyAnna Castelli; her grandmother, Mary Bannon; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is now resting peacefully in heaven with her grandmother, grandfathers, and her mother, Elizabeth A. Bannon (Lancellotti) with whom she has finally been reunited.

Her Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 28th, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074. Friends may call on Friday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

Her burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Delaware County SPCA, 555 Sandy Bank Road, Media, Pa. 19063 or directly to John Bannon in order to help defray the costs of the funeral.

Albert Humes

Albert Humes, age 83, a longtime resident of Ridley Park, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2015 at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park surrounded by his family.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William and Edna Humes. He was a resident of Ridley Park for 58 years. Albert worked for Philadelphia Electric for 39 years until his retirement in 1991.

He was a proud veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Army where he primarily drove ammunition to the front lines during the war.

He was a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church in Ridley Park, where he served the church in various capacities over the years.

He will be remembered as a man who was devoted to his family, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and going to their games.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eleanor Humes; his children, Albert (Theresa), David, Eleanor (Cliff), and John (Emily); and his 11 grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Service on Tuesday, August 25th, at 11 A.M. at Christ Episcopal Church, Sellers Avenue and Nevin Street, in Ridley Park, Pa. 19078. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the church.

His burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Christ Episcopal Church, 104 Nevin Street, Ridley Park, Pa. 19078 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675

Jane Ann Smith

Jane Ann Smith, age 57, passed away on January 14, 2016. Jane lived in Pitman, N.J. for 20 years before moving to Washington, Pa. where she worked with Harness Race Horses, PA.

She was a member of The Meadows Track Chapel in PA. Jane was the daughter of Francis and Lillian DePaul (nee Hagen).

She was the wife of Thomas P. Smith, Sr. She is survived by her children, Thomas P. Smith, Jr. (Christina), Melissa Hansen (Michael), Rebecca Smith (Marc), Patrick Smith (Brittney), and her 9 grandchildren.

Friends may greet the family on Tuesday, January 19th, 2016 at 10 A.M. for a visiting hour with a service to follow at 11 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for the family in c/o Thomas P. Smith, 207 Winona Avenue, Holmes, Pa. 19043.

Carol L. Quinlan

Carol L. Quinlan, 72, a resident of Glenolden, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2016 at Fair Acres Geriatric Center in Lima, Pa.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late John and Wilda Ward.

Carol was employed as a bookkeeper with various companies in the area before she retired.

SURVIVORS: Carol is survived by her soul mate, Walter Fedin and his daughters, Dawn and Miki; her daughter, Lisa; and her sisters, Sue Morris and Karen Budinger.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Wednesday, January 13th, at 7 P.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Wednesday from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be private.

Rita Petrocelli Tucci

Rita Petrocelli Tucci, 93, a Philadelphia resident, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2015 at the Sterling Heath Care and Rehabilitation Center in Media.

She is survived by her son, Richard Petrocelli; and her grandchildren, Rich and Heather.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 5th, at 11 A.M. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 233 Mohawk Avenue, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

Family and friends are invited to her viewing on Monday, January 4th, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. and on Tuesday morning, 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

Her burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon.

Anna S. Powers Dahms

Anna S. Powers Dahms, 99, a longtime resident of Prospect Park, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2015 at the Crozer-Keystone Hospice Residence at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.

Born in Philadelphia, she was a resident of Prospect Park since 1942. Mrs. Dahms was a retired secretary who worked for the Masonic Temple, Grand Lodge in Philadelphia for a number of years.

She was a longtime member of Norwood United Methodist Church. She was a member of the church since 1953. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crocheting in her spare time.

Mrs. Dahms is predeceased by her first husband, Aaron G. Powers, who died in 1971; and her second husband, C. Curtis Dahms, who died in 1990.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by her nephews, Edward Martin and Robert Martin; her step-daughters, Joan Holzhauer and Connie Westfall; and her six step-grandchildren.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Thursday, December 31st, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Thursday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be in Edgewood Memorial Park in Glen Mills, Pa.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Mrs. Dahm’s memory to Norwood United Methodist Church, 315 Chester Pike, Norwood, Pa. 19074 would be appreciated.

Frank C. George

Frank C. George died peacefully at Lima Estates in Media, Pa. on December 13, 2015 at the age of 82.

Frank was born on February 18, 1933 in Haddonfield, N.J. He graduated from Darby High School, Darby, Pa. where he met his wife Pat Abrecka. Frank served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 - 1956 assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Seas. Returning to Darby after his naval service Frank worked as a machinist for his uncle, Charles Stoddart, before beginning a 30+ year career working for General Electric’s Space and Re-Entry Systems Division, in Philadelphia and Valley Forge, Pa.

Frank and Pat were long time residents of Ridley Park, Pa. where Frank organized and participated in many community activities. Specifically, Frank was an original founder and coach for many years of the Ridley Park Boy’s Club, as well as a Board of Trustees member for Taylor Hospital. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles football fan and never missed a game on TV.

Frank is survived by his children, Doreen George Carson (and spouse Kevin Carson) and F. Dean George (and spouse Linda Berkenbaugh George), his brother Dan C. George, and his grandchildren, Courtney Carson, Rebecca Carson, Dalton George, and Desiree George. His wife, Patricia Abrecka George, predeceases him.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 10 A.M. at Lima Estates, 411 N. Middletown Road, Lima, Pa. 19037. All are welcomed to attend to honor Frank’s life. The family is very appreciative of all the care that Frank received from the caregivers and staff at Lima Estates over the last several years of his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in Frank’s memory to the Ridley Park Athletic Club, P.O. Box 35, Ridley Park, Pa. 19078 would be appreciated by the family.

Doris E. Klina

Doris E. Klina, 89, a longtime resident of Prospect Park, Pa., died on December 4, 2015 at Crozer-Chester Medical Center after a brief illness.

Doris was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa. on October 21st, 1926, the daughter of Asher and Elsie (King) Young.

Doris spent her youth in Kingston, Pa. and moved to Prospect Park in 1955. She raised eight children with great care and love, taking extra special care of daughter Judy. She would push Judy in the wheelchair over to Interboro Junior High, then bring her home at the end of the day, in the rain, sleet, and snow every day for years, to say “devoted” is an understatement of her dedication to her children.

Doris was employed by Strawbridge and Clothier for 28 years as a sales associate, earning “Employee of the Year” on two occasions.

Doris was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Prospect Park for 60 years. She participated in the Women’s Group and was often found in the kitchen preparing meals for church dinners. She loved her church, attending services weekly.

She was an active Sports Booster member at Interboro High School while her children were participating in sports and never missed one of their games, especially the football games. She was an avid gardener, spending hours in the yard tending to her roses. She was a Phillies/Eagles fan and could be heard either cheering or booing her home teams.

She spent summers in LBI for many years and she enjoyed traveling. She would tell stories of her Pennsylvania Dutch heritage and was an excellent cook. She will be sorely missed by all who loved her.

Doris is predeceased by her husband, James M. Klina, and her daughter, Judith A. Klina.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by her children, James M. Klina, Jr. (Sheila Byrnes), Joanne Burns, Frank C. Klina (Deborah), Richard F. Klina (Laurie), Janice Whitmore (Thomas Gindle), Margaret Keenan, and Susan Murphy (Thomas); her 15 grandchildren; and her 8 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Thursday, December 10th, at 11 A.M. at St. James Episcopal Church, 11th and Lincoln Avenues, in Prospect Park, Pa. 19076.

VISITATION: Will be on Wednesday, December 9th, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. and on Thursday, December 10th, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

BURIAL: Will be in Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, Pa.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in memory of Doris to St. James Episcopal Church, 728 11th Avenue, Prospect Park, Pa. 19076 would be appreciated.

Geraldine "Gerri" Jackson

Mrs. Geraldine Jackson (nee Minner) of Sharon Hill, Pa., passed away on November 30, 2015 at the age of 71. She had battled cancer and passed away at home.

Gerri was born to parents Robert and Margaret (Butler) on October 20, 1944. She attended Interboro High School Class of 1962 and graduated from Bloomsburg College. In 1966, she married Chuck Jackson.

Gerri had two children. Gerri briefly taught elementary school in the Interboro and Southeast Delco School District and Sharon Hill Elementary. She was involved with the Sharon Hill Ramblers and served Sharon Hill as the President of Council. Gerri served as administrative assistant to State Representative Ronald Raymond in his local district office. Gerri worked as office manager at Uniques & Antiques Auction sales for 25 years.

Gerri is survived by Chuck Jackson; her son, Kent Jackson of West Chester, Pa.; and her daughter, Andrea O’Neill of Deland, FL; and four grandchildren, Gabi, Chris, Sarah, and Eric.

A Memorial Service and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 5th, at 11 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 501 Chester Pike, Norwood, Pa. 19074. There will a visitation time on Saturday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the church.

Gerri will be cremated and her ashes will be interred with her mother and father in the Washingtonville, Pa. Lutheran Church Cemetery in a private ceremony.

The family is grateful for condolences, and in lieu of flowers, donations to one of Gerri’s favorite causes, Immanuel Lutheran Church or Animal Friends of Lansdowne would be appreciated.
