Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Mary B. Jones

Mary B. Jones, 95, a longtime resident of Ridley Township, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2016 at Fair Acres Geriatric Center surrounded by her loving family.

Mary worked as a Postal Clerk with the U.S. Postal Service at the Newtown Square office for over 20 years until her retirement.

She was very active and spent much time at the Schoolhouse Senior Center in Folsom. Mary loved trips to the shore, especially to Ocean City, Maryland. She had a great affection and love for dogs.

Most of all, she will be remembered as a woman who was devoted to her family.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, William; her grandson, Michael; and her brother, Joseph.

SURVIVORS: Mary is survived by her sons, Eugene (Josephine) Jones and William (Judith) Jones; her nephew, Lee (Janet) Ward; her niece, Beverly (Jim) Baker; her grandchildren, Kimberly, Christopher, Tracie, Stephanie, and Eric; and her great-grandchildren, Cole, Julianna, Shaun, Olivia, and Ainsley.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Will be held on Saturday, March 12th, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Saturday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Springfield.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Mary’s memory to the Delaware County SPCA, 555 Sandy Bank Rd., Media, Pa. 19063 would be appreciated.

Anastasia Banjock

Anastasia Banjock, 87, a resident of Secane, Pa. and former resident of Upper Darby, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2016 at her residence with her loving son by her side.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anastasia Reed. She was employed for a number of years as a secretary with Haab Oil Company before her retirement.

She was an avid reader and loved horses, but most of all, she will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother to her son, Daniel.

Anastasia was the wife of the late Thomas Banjock.

She is survived by her loving son, Daniel T. Banjock, with whom she lived.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 27th, at 11 A.M. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 1 Fatima Drive, in Secane, Pa. 19018.

Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the church.

Her burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at the above address would be appreciated.

Elsie Joan Spanier

Elsie Joan Spanier, 80, a longtime resident of Prospect Park, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2016 at Fair Acres Geriatric Center in Lima, Pa.

Joan was the daughter of the late Valentine W. Spanier, Sr. and Elsie Safka Spanier.

She was employed as a secretary for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for a number of years until her retirement.

Joan was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of the St. Madeline Catholic Church parish in Ridley Park.

She is survived by her brother, Valentine W. Spanier, Jr. (Barbara) and her sister, Patricia S. Martin (Christopher); and her nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 25th, at 11 A.M. at St. Madeline Catholic Church, Penn Street and Morton Avenue, in Ridley Park, Pa. 19078.

There will be a visitation period on Monday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the church.

Burial will be in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Springfield, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Joan’s memory to St. Madeline Catholic Church, 105 Park Street, Ridley Park, Pa. 19078 would be appreciated.

Stefan Martin

Stefan Martin, age 90, of Milmont Park passed quietly on April 8, 2016.

Beloved husband of 59 years to Doris Martin, father to Carmen and Bernard Martin, and grandfather to Alec and Jon Martin.

Stefan emigrated to the United States in 1960 from Germany and worked in management for Boeing Corporation and the Philadelphia Gear Corporation. Retirement years were enjoying traveling the world and spending time with his family. Stefan’s zest for life and love of entertaining leaves a legacy of friends and family that will forever miss him.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 17th, at 3:30 P.M. followed by a Memorial Service at 4:30 P.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074. Burial will be private.

Roy K. Acker

Roy K. Acker, 71, a longtime resident of Norwood, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late John and Harriet Acker. He was employed as a facility manager at the Springfield School District for 24 years until his retirement.

Roy was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a longtime member of the Marine Corps League, Delaware County Detachment, in Upland.

Everyone knew Roy loved his dog, Bogey. He will be sadly missed by his family and his many friends.

SURVIVORS: Roy is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosemary (Roe) Acker; his son, Ken (Patricia) Acker; and his grandsons, Kevin and Daniel; his brother, Edwin (Fran) Acker; and his sister, Eleanor (Graydon) Hess.

FUNERAL MASS: Will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 12th, at 10 A.M., at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 1901 Chester Pike, in Eddystone, Pa. 19022.

VISITATION: Will be on Monday evening, April 11th, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074 and on Tuesday morning, April 12th, from 9 A.M to 10 A.M. at St. Rose of Lima Church.

BURIAL: Will be private with military honors at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, Pa. at a later date.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Roy’s memory to The Gary Sinise Foundation, P.O. Box 50008, Studio City, CA 91614-5001 (garysinisefoundation.org) would be appreciated.

Elizabeth R. "Betty" Huddy

Elizabeth R. "Betty" Huddy, 93, a longtime resident of Collingdale, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2016 with her daughter by her side at the Bryn Mawr Extended Care Center in Bryn Mawr.

Born in Warsaw, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Elsie Della Camera She was raised in Clifton Heights before residing in Collingdale. Before raising a family, she worked at one time as an operator with Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania.

Betty was a Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post # 5428 in Collingdale and was an Honorary Member of the Collingdale High School Alumni Association.

Betty enjoyed crocheting, doing crosswords, and making candy in her spare time. She will be remembered as a woman who was devoted to her family.

She was the wife of the late Joseph J. Huddy; and was also predeceased by her sons, Joseph J. Huddy, Jr. and James J. Huddy; and her daughter, Denise M. Sheridan.

SURVIVOR: Betty is survived by her loving daughter, Roe Huddy.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Wednesday, October 5th, at 10:30 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Wednesday, October 5th, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Springfield, Pa.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Betty's memory to V.F.W. Post #5428, 343 Oak Lane, Collingdale, Pa. 19023 or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.

Stephanie Marchesani

Stephanie Marchesani, 30, a loving and caring critical care nurse who was dedicated to her patients and devoted to her family and friends, passed away on September 11, 2016.

Born in Philadelphia and raised in Norwood, Pa., Steph was a 2004 graduate of Interboro High School. She graduated with Honors from Temple University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 2008. Steph, BSN, RN, began her career in 2008 as a staff nurse and progressed into a role as a critical care nurse at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Steph was about to complete her Masters in the Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.

Steph loved to travel to near and far away places, enjoyed cooking, biking, and the occasional Broad Street Run. She was a devoted daughter, sister, and friend, an expert and caring nurse, and always enjoyed being in the company of her friends.

She will be sadly missed by her loving family and her many colleagues and friends.

SURVIVORS: Steph is survived by her mother, Madeline (Steve); her father, Michael; her sister, Laura (Matthew), her brother, Michael; and her boyfriend, Jeff; and her professional colleagues and many friends.

VISITATION: Will be held on Friday, September 16th, from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074 and on Saturday, September 17th, from 8:30 A.M. to 10 A.M. at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, 817 N. 7th Street, Philadelphia, Pa. 19123.

BURIAL: Will be in Oakland Cemetery in Philadelphia.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made to The Nursing Memorial Scholarship Fund, in memory of Stephanie Marchesani, The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, 418 Curie Blvd., Philadelphia, Pa. 19104 would be appreciated by her family.

Jerome "Jerry" Taylor

Jerome “Jerry” Taylor, 89, a life long resident of the Essington section of Tinicum Township, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2016 at the Sterling Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Media.

Born in Essington, he was the son of the late Edgar and Grace Taylor. Jerry was employed for 35 years with Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania retiring as an engineer.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy.

He was a longtime member of St. John’s Tinicum Lutheran Church in Essington and for many years was a member of Fernwood Lodge # 246 Free and Associated Masons in Philadelphia.

Jerry enjoyed gardening and was known for his beautiful gardens. He loved animals, and had many interests including nature, electronics, and many of the sciences.

He will be remembered as a man who was devoted to his family.

Jerry was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Geneva J. “Gen” Taylor, who passed away earlier this year.

SURVIVORS: His is survived by his son, Jerry (Kathy) Taylor; his daughters, Roberta Karmels and Joan (John) Zdun; his grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer, and Christopher; and his great-grandchildren, Miles, Skyla, and Thomas.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Will be held on Wednesday, September 7th, at 11 A.M., at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be private.

Diane Elizabeth McKnew

Diane Elizabeth McKnew, 61, a resident of Glenolden, passed away on August 17, 2016 at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill.

She will rest in peace with her sister, Susan West, her brother, Thomas Hall, and her father, William Hall.

Diane is survived by her daughter, Stacey McKnew; her son, Donald McKnew; her mother, Dorothy Hall; her sisters, Janice Meindl, Dorothy Johnston, Patty Colgan, and Joan Hall. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Her Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 24th, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

There will be a visitation time on Wednesday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

Her burial will be private.

Martha Lauretta "Retta" Dunderdale

Martha Lauretta Dunderdale, (nee Montgomery), age 96, affectionately known as “Retta” to her friends, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2016 surrounded by her family at the Broomall Presbyterian Village in Broomall, Pa.

Born in Essington, she was a lifelong resident of the Essington section of Tinicum Township. She was the daughter of the late Al and Martha Montgomery.

She was a graduate of Eddystone High School. She worked as an inspector at Westinghouse during World War II and then as a shipping clerk at Clifton Precision Products and later Powell Electronics.

Retta was an original member of the former “Women’s Emergency Rescue Unit” created by the Essington Fire Company during the heating up of the Cold War in the 1950’s. The Unit was trained in firefighting and rescue techniques. During this time she drove a fire truck, operated pumps, handled hose, and climbed a 75 foot aerial ladder.

In later years, she mastered the art of needle work including knitting, beading, crochet, and her favorite, counted cross stitch.

A woman devoted to her family, her favorite “job” over the years was being a mom, grandmom, and great-grandmom.

She was the oldest of five Montgomery children, now all deceased; Bertie, Jean, Florence, and Gil.

Retta was the wife of the late Roy “Hubby” Dunderdale, to whom she was married for 62 years until his death in 2004.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by her two sons, Roy (Kathy) and Gil (Suzanne); her four grandchildren, Gil (Alana), Kristin (Sean), Melissa (Rick), and Charlotte; and her six great-grandchildren, Patrick, Isabelle, Shane, Aiden, Ryan, and Emily.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Saturday, August 20th, at 10 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be held on Friday, August 19th, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. and on Saturday, August 20th, from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be in Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Broomall, Pa.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in her memory to Crozer-Keystone Hospice, 200 W. Sproul Road, Springfield, Pa. 19064 would be appreciated
