Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Florence R. Brooks

Florence “Flossie” R. Brooks (nee Renz), age 86, of Upper Chichester, Pa. formerly of Glenolden, Pa. and Media, Pa., passed away on June 1, 2016 at Riddle Memorial Hospital.

Flossie was a 1947 graduate of Glen-Nor High School, a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Norwood, Pa. and recently a member of Reformation Lutheran Church, Media, Pa. A lifelong Delaware County resident, Flossie enjoyed spending summers at Jersey shore campgrounds and later in life, winter months in North Fort Myers, FL. A member of the Prospect Lodge No. 301 Order of the Eastern Star of Prospect Park, she worked for Westinghouse, Kelly Services, and the Interboro School District.

Born in Norwood, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry W. Renz, Sr. and Florence Renz (Farley), and she was predeceased by her siblings, Warren D. Renz, Sr., Dorothy Worrall, and Harry W. Renz, Jr.

She was the wife of the late Charles L. Brooks, Jr., who died in November 1996.

Flossie was the devoted mother of Sandy (Dennis) McKnight and Charles S. (Lori) Brooks and the beloved grandmother of nine grandchildren and great-grandmother of nine.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Saturday, June 4th, from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074 followed by her Funeral Service at 10:30 A.M.

Her burial will be in Edgewood Memorial Park in Glen Mills, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 501 Chester Pike, Norwood, Pa. 19074.

Joseph William Worrell

Joseph William Worrell, age 52, a longtime resident of Ridley Park, passed away on May 28, 2016.

Born August 27, 1963, he was the son of the late Robert P. and Carol A. (Clarke) Worrell. He was a graduate of Ridley High School. He worked most of his life as a mechanic.

SURVIVORS: He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Linda M. Phelan Worrell; his loving children, Heather M. Worrell, Kaitlyn M. Worrell (fiancée Nicholas Perez-McLean), and Joseph W. Worrell, Jr.; his two loving grandsons, Michael T. Wiegand and Mason R. Morris; his brothers, Robert P. Worrell and Frank Worrell; and his nephews, Robert Worrell, III, Thomas III and Matthew Phelan, Patrick and David Jr. Phelan, and Timothy, Tyler, and Brandon Worrell.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Monday, June 6th, at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

VISITATION: Will be on Monday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Milmont Park.

Charles A. Rowland, Jr.

Charles Andrew “Reds” Rowland, Jr., age 87, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2016 at Hunters Creek Nursing Home in Orlando, Florida where he was President of the Residents Association.

Born in Chester, Pa., Reds was the son of the late Dr. Charles A. Rowland and Agnes (nee Cross) Rowland.

Residing in Orlando, Florida since 1988 and formerly of Chester, Pa. and Cherry Hill, N.J., Reds was a graduate of the Haverford School and Pennsylvania Military College in Chester.

After serving in the Army in Korea, Reds dedicated his entire career working to the Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO).

He was an avid fan of all Philadelphia sports and the Florida Gators and the Nittany Lions, as well as an avid stamp collector and jigsaw puzzler. He enjoyed needlepoint and his work is distributed and proudly displayed by friends and family.

Reds was predeceased by his wife, Ann, and his brother, James.

He is survived by his sons, Charles (Pam) and Robert (Karen); his five grandchildren, Sarah, Rebecca, RJ, Molly, and Lauren; his sister-in-law, Peg; as well as his nieces and nephews and their children.

A Graveside Service followed by his burial will take place on Friday, June 3rd, at 11 A.M. at Chester Rural Cemetery at the Rowland family lot.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Reds memory to the American Diabetes Association, 150 Monument Road, #100, Bala Cynwyd, Pa. 19004 would be appreciated.

Isabel D. Irvin

Isabel D. Irvin, (nee Nelson), age 87, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2016 at North Cape Center in Cape May, N.J.

Born in Maple Shade, N.J., Isabel was the daughter of the late Thomas E. Nelson and Rose (nee McKenna) Nelson.

Residing in Cape May, N.J. since 1997 and formerly of Prospect Park and North Philadelphia, Pa., Isabel was a proud graduate of John W. Hallahan Girl’s High School in Philadelphia. Working with her father, she helped start the Nelson Plumbing business in Philadelphia, handling record keeping. She also worked alongside her many friends at the Real Estate Trust Co. and Fidelity Philadelphia Trust Co. in Philadelphia.

A longtime member of St. James Episcopal Church in Prospect Park, Pa., Isabel enjoyed delivering outreach to home bound church members. She was a member of the Altar Guild, and the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament. Active in her local community, Isabel was a member of the Prospect Park Fire Co. Women’s Auxiliary, and the Ridley Park Community Chorus. Her volunteer work gave her much joy including visiting residents of the Prospect Park Nursing Home. Upon moving to Cape May, N.J., Isabel became a member of the Church of the Advent and the Altar Guild and became a Reading Volunteer at the Carl Mitnick Elementary School.

Isabel is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, George Allen Irvin and her dear daughters, Joyce Covert, Gail Miller, and Grace (Fran) Ferrell. She is a cherished Mom-Mom of nine grandchildren and Aunt to her devoted nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, May 28th 2016 from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. followed by her Funeral Service at 10:30 A.M. at St. James Episcopal Church, 11th and Lincoln Avenue, in Prospect Park, Pa. Her final resting place will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in her memory to St. James Episcopal Church, 732 11th Avenue, Prospect Park, Pa. 19076 would be appreciated.

Dorothy M. LaCrosse

Dorothy M. LaCrosse, a resident of White Horse Village in Newtown Square and a former longtime resident of Norwood, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2016 at Riddle Memorial Hospital.

Born in Norwood, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ethel Cline. She was a 1935 graduate of the former Glen-Nor High School.

Dorothy enjoyed traveling and loved animals, but mostly will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor.

She was the wife of the late Edward LaCrosse.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by her five grandchildren; her two nieces; her nephew; and her many great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Wednesday, May 25th, at 11:30 A.M., at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074.

BURIAL: Will be private.

CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in her memory to the Providence Animal Center, (formerly SPCA), 555 Sandy Bank Rd., Media, Pa. 19063 would be appreciated.

John Joseph Poole

John Joseph Poole, age 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, of Media, Pa. and formerly of Springfield, Pa., died peacefully on May 3, 2016.

Born in Preston, MD, John grew up in Prospect Park and eventually moved to Springfield. He was a 1949 graduate of Prospect Park High School and attended Sleeper’s Business School and the University of Pennsylvania. John started working at Atlantic Richfield Company in 1950 until his retirement in 1985.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952 and sent to Korea, where he worked for General Maxwell Taylor, and received two Bronze Stars and seven additional medals. He returned in 1954 and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Yerkes.

John was a member of the Ridley Park Presbyterian Church and later, the Springfield Presbyterian Church, where he served as a trustee, deacon, elder, and usher. John was a member of the Springfield Athletic Association, Indian Guides, and the Springfield Lions Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family in Sea Isle City, N.J., fishing and crabbing on his boat, and family get-togethers on holidays and birthdays.

He moved to Granite Farms Estates in 2006 and served as Vice-President of the Granite Farms Residents Association.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Poole, Jr. and Ethel (Fluharty) Poole and his sister, Dorothy (Theodore) Robinson.

John is survived by his wife, Barbara (Yerkes) Poole; daughter Sandra Carter; son Robert (Patti) Poole; his four grandchildren, Marie (Gabe) Pepper, Alicia Carter, Joshua Poole, and Anna Poole; and great-grandson, Gavin Pepper.

A Memorial Service to celebrate John’s life will take place on Saturday, May 14th, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. in the auditorium at Granite Farms Estates, 1343 W. Baltimore Pike, in Media, Pa.

A private family ceremony and burial will take place on Monday, May 9th, 2016.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Samaritan Fund, Granite Farms Estates, 1343 W. Baltimore Pike, Media, Pa. 19063.
