Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Dr. Wallace W. Bednarz
Dr. Wallace W. Bednarz, of Harding Ave., Williamsport, died in Manorcare Nursing Home in Williamsport, June 1, 2003. He was born and raised in Stoughton, Mass. He was the son of Antoni and Bronya Julevich (some family members spelled their names Jurgilewicz). During the great depression, his father, Antoni, owned and operated a company that manufactured sporting outerwear and supplied them to many local teams. He eventually sold the company but continued to work for the new owners. His father had been an auxiliary policeman with over 50 years of service. He is survived by his wife, the former Priscilla Pine.
Also surviving is a son, Stephen (Kathleen) Bednarz; grandchildren, Derek, Kevin and Andrew, all of Wilkes-Barre; a daughter, Elizabeth (Lawrence) Laychur; grandson, Nicholas and granddaughter, Amanda, all of Oviedo, Fla.; and a daughter, Kathryn Bednarz of San Fransico, Calif. In addition, he leaves a sister, Antonia (Tes) Swanson of Avon, Mass.; a niece, Mary Jane (Richard) Hedden in Orlando, Fla. and niece, Roberta (Richard) Hook; and a nephew, Peter Swanson, both of Avon, Mass.
After graduation from high school in 1940, he served in WW II, in the Army Air Corp as a master sergeant and gunner with 64 missions in the African and European Theatres of War.
He was a graduate of Boston College High School in 1940 and in 1948, he graduated from Boston University and from the Boston University School of Medicine in 1952. He interned at Maine Medical Center, in Portland, Maine, where he resided at his wife’s family’s summer home. Dr. Bednarz did his radiology internship at Mass. Memorial Hospital in Boston. After graduation from medical school he joined the Air Force and served at Chanute Air Force base as a captain and Wiesbaden, Germany, as a major when the Berlin Wall was built.
Upon retirement from the Air Force, he joined the radiology group at the Williamsport Hospital in 1962, where he worked until his retirement in the 1980s.
He was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter. He went on safaris to Africa, Asia, Canada and Alaska, with one polar bear hunt above the Artic Circle, where they hunted with dog sleds out on the ice. He went on several fishing trips in Canada for muskie, and fishing trips to Central and South America as well as the Great Barrier Reef off Australia. His only disappointment was not to have visited Anarctica.
Burial will be on Thursday, June 5, 2003, in Laurel Hill Cemetery, in Saco, Maine, beside the body of his son, Walter Antoni, who died in infancy. The time and date of local funeral services will be announced at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 63 North Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.

Rosella M. Klotz
Mrs. Rosella M. Klotz, 80, of 91 Odell Road, Muncy, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at The Williamsport Hospital & Medical Center.
She was the widow of the late Herbert W. Klotz, who preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 1976.
Mrs. Klotz was a member of the Community of Christ Church at Bloomsburg.
Rosella retired in 1985 from Shop-Vac, Williamsport.
Mrs. Klotz enjoyed collecting birdhouses. She lived her life for her interest in both her children and grandchildren.
Born Aug. 30, 1922 at Independence, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Glenn Sr. and Pearl Cox.
Surviving are four daughters, Nancy Deane of Deland, Fla., Brenda (Michael) Swope of South Williamsport, Terry (Dave) Hill of Montoursville and Beverly Tompkins of South Williamsport; three sons, Keith (Pam) Klotz of Montoursville, Ron Klotz of Lewistown and Tim Klotz of Williamsport; one sister, Violet Gaither of Independence, Mo.; two brothers, Jerry Cox and Dean Cox, both of Mo.; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2003, at the Charles M. Noll Funeral Home, 1 East Central Ave., South Williamsport. The Rev. Henry N. Shaffer, her pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport.
Relatives and friends may call at the Noll Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. The family will provide the flowers.
Contributions in memory of Mrs. Rosella M. Klotz, may be made, if so desired, to Community of Christ Church, 750 Market St., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.

Calvin L. Calhoun
Calvin L. “Buck” Calhoun, 83, a former resident of Avis, died Monday, June 2, 2003.
Surviving are a special companion of 17 years, Gladys Overdurf of Avis; one son, David of N.J.; two daughters, Nanette Kaufmann of Fla. and Sharon Calhoun of Ariz; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Helt Funeral Chapel of Mill Hall.

David E. Reynolds
David E. Reynolds, 48, of Williamsport, passed away Friday, May 30, 2003, in Grandview Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 10, 1955, in Williamsport.
Surviving are a daughter, Deirdre, with whom he lived; his wife, Gay; mother, Betty Richards Stockbauer; father, Earl E. Reynolds; two brothers, Darryl and Dana Richards; sisters-in-law, Jamie and Mary; a sister, Sarena Richards and brother-in-law, Shane Berger; and several nieces and nephews.
David was predeceased by a grandmother, Grace Tressler Egli and grandfather, Theodore Walter Christopher Tressler Sr.; a son, David E.; a daughter, Rebecca; and a brother, Dane E. Richards.
David played drums and was a roofer. There will be a memorial service for him at the Redeemer Lutheran Church at Sherman Street and Washington Boulevard at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003. Friends may attend.

Thomas Homisak

Thomas Homisak, 80, of Garfield, N.J., died Tuesday, June 17, 2003.
Surviving are his wife, Doris (nee Forss); two sons, Thomas and William Homisak and one daughter, Deborah Brunner, all of Saddle Brook, N.J.; one brother, Dr. William Homisak of Williamsport; three sisters, Ann Cebular, Mary Chupeck and Irene Sumple, all of Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren.

Mark Allen Crain

Mark Allen Crain, 44, of Virginia Beach, Va., died June 17, 2003. Born March 11, 1959, in Williamsport, he was the son of Martin A. and Mary Lou Croucher Crain.
He retired from the United States Navy after 22 years of service. After retirement, he was employed with George G. Sharp, Inc. of Virginia Beach.
Surviving are his wife, Kimberly Joan O’Brien Crain of Virgina Beach, daughter, Stephanie Marie Crain of Virginia Beach; his parents, Martin and Mary Lou Crain of Williamsport; and sisters, Joanne L. McCoy of Reading, Pa. and Loretta A. Carter of Winchester, Va.
A Funeral Mass will be held Monday morning at 9 a.m. at Visitation Church, 1614 West Southern Ave., South Williamsport. Father Paul Baumberger will officiate.
Friends may call at the Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St., Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m., with a Rosary at 8 p.m. Interment will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park.
The family will provide the flowers.

Chester M. Walters

Chester M. Walters, 81, of 773 Route 54, Montgomery, died Friday, June 20, 2003, at Muncy Valley Hospital following a brief illness. His wife, the former Adele R. Trimble, died June 9, 2001.
Chet retired from the Muncy State Correctional Institution and was a Marine veteran of WW II, where he received a Purple Heart. He was a former member of the Church of Christ, Avis, a member of the Commanders Club of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW Post 15040 and the National Rifle Association.
Born Nov. 5, 1921, in Estella, he was the son of Jacob D. and Irene O. Fiester Walters.
Surviving are sons the Rev. Robert W. (Candice) of Allenwood and Steven F. (Pamela) of Muncy; a daughter, Kathy G. (Charles) Kern of Hughesville; a sister, Carol Fargus of Jersey Shore; grandchildren William T., Steven M., Gregory S., Jacob A., and Kristen M. Walters, Aaron C. and Adam C. Kern; and great-grandchildren, Wesley T., Casandra A. and Aiden S. Walters, Jermaine K., Whitney A. Bolden and two to be named.
Chet was predeceased by a granddaughter, Amy M. Kern.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Knight-Conferís, 1914 Memorial Ave., with her son, Pastor of The Rock of Salvation Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Woolrich. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the Rock of Salvation Church, 212 Waring Road, Allenwood, PA 17810.

Isabelle Holt Schmalacker

Mrs. Isabelle Holt Schmalacker, 87, a guest at Caroline Manor, Nanty-Glo, Cambria County, since 1996, and former longtime South Williamsport area resident, died Friday, June 20, 2003, at Caroline Manor.
Born Nov. 11, 1915, at Bakerton, Cambria County, she was the daughter of the late William and Eliza Barr Smith.
She was the widow of the late Gustav Schmalacker, her second husband. Her first husband, Orvis C. (Dutch) Holt, preceded her in death on June 27, 1971.
Mrs. Schmalacker lived in the South Williamsport Area from 1943 until 1996. She was an active member of the South Williamsport United Methodist Church, a past president of the church’s Women’s Society and a long time member of the craft group.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Leroy O. Buck Post # 7863, V.F.W., at DuBoistown and was also an associate member of the Acacia Club, Williamsport.
She learned to play golf late in life and enjoyed going on golfing trips with her late husband, Mr. Schmalacker, who was a professional golfer.
She had been employed as the chief cook for many years at the former Weldon Corporation at Williamsport.
Surviving are five grandchildren, Kathy Lynn and Steve Kachik of Ohio, Lenny, Wally and Dean Holt, all of Florida; and several great-grandchildren and loved ones in the Moshannon/Snow Shoe area. She is also survived by a host of loving relatives in Nanty-Glo, who provided her with love and caring over the past several years and were there to make her passing peaceful. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Kachik; son, Leonard George Holt; sister, Alverda; and brothers, George, William and Clifford Smith and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m, Tuesday, June 24, at the Charles M. Noll Funeral Home, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport. Interment will follow at the Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.
Relatives and friends may call at the Noll Funeral Home on Monday, June 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. The family will provide the flowers.
Contributions in memory of Mrs. Isabelle Holt Schmalacker, may be made, if so desired, to the South Williamsport United Methodist Church, 1422 W. Southern Ave., South Williamsport, PA 17702.

Martha E. Mitcheltree

Martha E. (Mocky) Mitcheltree, 73, of 931 Mulberry St., Montoursville, went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 19, 2003, while admitted to Williamsport Hospital. Born Dec. 19, 1929, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Howard and Nellie Confer Hoover.
She and her husband, Ernest R., would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary July 28, 2003.
Mrs. Mitcheltree retired in 1989 from Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. in Loyalsock Twp.
She was a member and deaconess at East End Baptist Church.
Sewing, reading and playing with her grandchildren were favorite pasttimes.
Surviving besides her husband are her stepmother, Naomi Hoover of Altoona; two daughters, Lisa A. (Scott) Konkle of Montoursville and Julie M. Mitcheltree of Jeannette; four brothers, Benson of Valencia, Lloyde of Sarasota, Fla., Donald of Montgomery and Sidney of Homer, N.Y.; a sister, Betty Guild of Cinnaminson, N.J.; two grandchildren, Janelle and Joshua Konkle; and a family friend, Jon Vossburg of Jeannette. She was predeceased by a son, Ernie and a brother, Herbert.
Memorial services will be held 7 p.m. Sunday at East End Baptist Church, 801 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, with her pastor, Dan A. Leet, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends will be received 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the East End Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
