Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Ruth O. Manning

Ruth O. Manning, 93, of Roseview Center, Williamsport and formerly of Cogan Station, died June 17, 2003, at Williamsport Hospital. Born July 4, 1909, in Kushequa, Pa. she was the daughter of Lafayette and Flora Ryan Phillips.
Ruth was the widow of Alvin B. Manning, who died Sept. 11, 1992, and she was also predeceased by a daughter, Shirley L. Keller and a brother, Frank Phillips.
She had worked as a nurse’s aide at Williamsport and Divine Providence Hospitals and the Park Home.
She was a member of Fairlawn Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.
Surviving are sister, Bessie Allen of Osceola, Ind.; three grandchildren, Debbie (Donald) Leathers, Beth (Bob) Russell and Rev. Timothy (Cheri) Keller; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held on Friday at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with Rev. Timothy D. Keller, her granson, officiating.

Myron L. Burk

Myron L. Burk, 83, of Hughesville and Laporte, died Friday, June 20, 2003, at his home.
McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Avery Lynn Sherwood

Avery Lynn Sherwood, the daughter of Steven and Sarah Avery Sherwood, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Geisinger Medical Center, after developing complications at birth. Avery was born a day prior to her death on July 29, 2003.
In addition to her parents of Lairdsville, Avery is survived by maternal grandparents, Dean and Elaine Avery of Lairdsville; paternal grandparents, Steven and Donna Sherwood of Muncy; maternal great-grandmother, Doris Avery of Muncy; maternal great-grandfather, Edwin Worley of Martinsville, Ind.; paternal great-grandparents, Oscar and Lois Kepner of Hughesville; and paternal great-great-grandmother, Helen Corson of Hughesville.
Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family at St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lairdsville, with the Rev. Kathleen Shuck officiating. Burial will be in Lairdsville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Geisinger Medical Center, 100 N. Academy Ave., Danville, PA 17822.
McCarty-Thomas F.H.

Mary E. McCarty

Mrs. Mary E. McCarty, 85, of 9890 Susquehanna Trail, Muncy, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at home.
Her husband of 57 years, Stephen G. McCarty, died Nov. 2, 1994.
Born April 8, 1918, in Montgomery, she was the daughter of Oscar and Bertha Aunkst.
She enjoyed being a homemaker and mother, and found pleasure in cooking, taking care of flowers and going for walks. She also loved her dog companion, Tex.
Surviving are five sons, Wilbur R. McCarty of Allenwood, Kennth L. McCarty of Muncy; twin sons, Roy S. McCarty and Ray E. McCarty, both of Muncy and Max M. McCarty of Muncy; twin daughters, Joyce L. Sivak and Janet M. Marshall, both of Allenwood; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Donald L. McCarty, who died October 15, 1996, and an infant daughter, Grace, who died March 18, 1937.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, at Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy. Officiating will be the Rev. Charles R. Plant, pastor of Muncy Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Muncy Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Charles M. Blakeney

Charles M. Blakeney, 85, of Watsontown, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. He had been residing at Kramm’s Nursing Home, Watsontown, since June. Formerly of New Jersey, he relocated to Watsontown 17 years ago.
Born in Westwood, N.J., on April 11, 1918, he was the son of Charles and Ruth (Bickel) Myers. After the death of both of his natural parents during his infancy, he was raised by an aunt and uncle, Alfred and Adeline Blakeney.
His wife, the former Florence Lind, died Jan. 15, after 63 years of marriage.
Mr. Blakeney retired in 1960 after 23 years as a police officer in River Vale Twp., N.J. He also farmed the family homestead in River Yale most of his adult life.
A dealer in antique milk bottles and coin collections, he operated a booth at the Route 180 Flea Market in Watsontown. He loved hunting and trapping.
Surviving are two sons, Warren L. (Billie) Blakeney of Frankford Twp., Sussex County, N.J. and Duane M. (Margaret) Blakeney of Turbotville; three grandchildren, Renee Spisak, Michelle Spencer and Justin Blakeney; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, where the funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Douglas M. Eberly. Burial will follow in Watsontown Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions in his memory be made to Watsontown United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 35, Watsontown, PA 17777.

Barry Parsons

Barry Parsons, 60, of 369 Union Ave., died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at the Williamsport Hospital.
Arrangements by the Knight-Confer Funeral Home.

Landon Charles Richart

Landon Charles Richart, son of Robert Eugene and Tamara Beth (Roupp) Richart of New Columbia, was stillborn Monday, Sept. 29, 2003.
Additional survivors are his paternal and maternal grandparents and four brothers, Travis, Quaid, Anthony and Nicholas Richart.
A graveside service was held Sept. 30, at Harmony Cemetery, Milton, by the Rev. Elizabeth Affsprung.
Arrangements were made by the Roupp Funeral Home Inc., Mifflinburg.

John A. Wettlaufer Sr.

John A. Wettlaufer Sr., age 76, of South Williamsport, died Sept. 28, at his residence. He was born in Cascade Twp., April 2, 1927, the son of the late Frank and Nancy Shires Wettlaufer. He was married to the former Helen M. Swank for 52 years.
He was self-employed as a roofer and had been employed by Parson’s Roofing. He had served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in WWII.
He was a member of Pine Street United Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors in addition to his wife are a son, John (Sandy) Wettlaufer Jr. of Cogan Station; daughters, Deborah (Rick) Stuempfle of Waynesboro and Delores Bower of South Williamsport; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, George and Ellis of Bodines and Raymond of Williamsport; and sisters, Carolyn “Dolly” (Francis) Livermore of Trout Run, Viola “Sis” (Ben) Gair and Susan Betts of Williamsport. Two brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m., at the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronald Doan, Hospice Chaplin officiating. Interment will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Harold T. Kriner Sr.

Harold T. “Hunk” Kriner Sr., 90, resident of Loyalsock Twp., died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at the Williamsport Hospital. Born Oct. 23, 1912, in Orwigsburg, he was a son of Herbert S. and Sally Jones Kriner.
He retired from the former Weldons Manufacturing.
Harold enjoyed golfing and bowling and was a member of the first left-handed team in Williamsport.
He was a WW II Army veteran, having served in the Southwest Pacific.
He and his wife, the former Doris M. Leuthner, observed their 56th wedding anniversary Feb. 7.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Ted (Mary Rose) Kriner Jr. of Loyalsock Twp.; grandchildren, Kati L. Kriner of Broomall, Christopher T. (Heather) Kriner of Loyalsock Twp. and Megan Kriner of Sunbury; and a great-grandson, Jared Kriner.
He was predeceased by a brother, Russell and a sister, Olive Fritz.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, in the Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St., with the Rev. Michael McCormick officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. The family will provide the flowers and memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3544 North Progress Ave., Suite 202, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Margaret M. Carpenter-Holt

Margaret M. Carpenter-Holt, 82, of Walnut Lane, Jersey Shore, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003.
Born in South Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Effie Hill Whipple.
Margaret was a member of the Nesbit United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Agnes M. Steppe of Jersey Shore; her son, Charles Carpetner of Linden; her stepsons, Jasper Holt of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Daniel Holt in North Carolina; her stepdaughters, Nancy Hepfer of Julian and Kay Biddle of Beech Creek; her sisters, Agnes Whipple and Grace Fuller both of city; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her first husband, John C. Carpenter in 1973 and her second husband, George E. Holt in 1993; her stepdaughter, Dorothy Barndt in 2003, and her brothers, Henry and Lewis Whipple.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. The Rev. William E. Pipp, pastor of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Carlisle, will officiate.
Burial will be in Woodward Twp. Cemetery, Linden.
Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Sanders.
