Lucille (Nowak) Hull

Lucille (Nowak) Hull, age 78, a resident at the St. Luke’s Home, Utica, N.Y. peacefully left this earth on Feb. 1, 2004.
Lucille was born March 2, 1925, in Blossburg, the daughter of Vincent and Mary (Batulis) Nowak. She attended Mansfield State Teachers College and was employed by the Social Security Department in Baltimore and the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. She had a lifelong love of music and enjoyed singing in her church, choral and social groups. On March 25, 1951, she married Captain Heber W. Hull at St. Patrick’s Church, Havre de Grace, Maryland.
Lucille was a devoted daughter and a loving sister, wife, mother and friend. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Steven John, and daughter, Natalie Joan; her brother and sister-in-law, Sylvester and Veronica Nowak; and brother Theodore V. Nowak, MD.
Surviving are her children and their spouses, Mary MD and Frank Burke, Marjorie and Phillip Paradis PhD, William and Cheryl Hull; grandsons, Bennett Paradis, Justin and Michael Hull; brother, Floyd Nowak; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Mrs. Theodore) Nowak; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m., today at the Scureman Funeral Home, Inc. 130 S. Main St., Mansfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Blossburg with Father Brian Clarke as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at St. Mary’s Hall after Interment services.

Rev. Edwin M. Brooks

Rev. Edwin M. Brooks, age 90, of 122 Fountain St., Jersey Shore, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at his residence. He was born Oct. 23, 1913, in Linden, the youngest child of John B. and Minnie May Brooks. He married the former Helen E. Bower in 1933 and she died Feb. 7, 1990.
He was a graduate of Practical Bible Training School and completed correspondence course work through Moody Bible Institute and Philadelphia Bible Institute. He pastored 47 years in churches in New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania and was instrumental in the building of churches in Williamsport, Jersey Shore, Endwell and Yonkers N.Y. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by one daughter, Joanna Ingram, and her husband, Robert, of Whiting, N.J.; four grandchildren, Kimberly Southworth, Kevin Ingram, Darrel Brooks and Daniel Brooks. He was predeceased by his son, Ronald E. Brooks, last February and eight brothers and sisters.
Pastor Brooks’ Life Celebration Service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, from the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, “a Life Celebration Home,” 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore with Bryan Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Jersey Shore Cemetery. His family suggests contributions by made to either Penn Wood Bible Camp, 9 old Rt. 6, Ulysses, PA 16948 or Susquehanna Home Chare Hospice, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Kenneth ‘Pony’ Lynch

Kenneth “Pony” Lynch, 54, of Williamsport, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, in the University of Pittsburgh Hospital. He was the son of Deborah Mills, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah A. Darpino; his children, Arlina Darpino of Williamsport, Terrell and Tyesha Scott both of Upper Darby, Lamar Scott of Philadelphia; his dog, Lucky; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St. Friends may call from 7 to 9 Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park.

Gertrude A. Kulpinski

During the early morning hours of Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, Gertrude A. (Sheppard) Kulpinski of Canton, passed away at Robert Packard Hospital in Sayre after a prolonged illness. She was 55, the wife of Roger Kulpinski and mother of Tom Lawrence and Tammy Kulpinski.
Viewing will be 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Morse & Kleese, 40 N. Center St., Canton. Service at 3 p.m. with Deacon William H. Graham officiating.

Gladys Goodman Witmer

Gladys Goodman Witmer, 101, of 910 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, in Manor Care Health Services.
She was born Sept. 15, 1902, in Jersey Shore, a daughter of Eugene and Margaret Noll Goodman.
Gladys was the widow of Rev. E. Frederic Witmer, a Lutheran pastor. She was active in the Migrant Ministry and Church Women United. Gladys was a Friend of the Court and a screener for the Job Corps of the United States Dept. of Labor, which provides a free education for young people.
She was one of the founders of the Classroom Friends Program, which is active in the Jersey Shore Area School District. Gladys was a graduate of the Jersey Shore High School and Williamsport Business College. She was a bookkeeper and accountant.
Gladys is survived by a daughter, Ann Coffin of Milton; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers and one sister.
Friends and relatives are invited to Glady’s life celebration beginning with a visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, Ltd., “A Life Celebration Home,” 1002 Allegheny St. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Audrey Murdock officiating. Interment will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 222 Maple St., Jersey Shore, PA 17740 or the American Bible Society, 1865 Broadway, Gift Processing, New York, NY 10023.

Kendru W. Anderson

Kendru W. Anderson, 80, formerly of city, died Friday, October 12, 2001. Born in Muncy, he moved to Central Florida in 1979.
He was the owner of Anderson’s Mobile Homes and Used Cars, Inc. He was a Mason and Shriner and an avid golfer. He was a Methodist.
Mr. Anderson was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, USS Barb -SS310 - Submarine Division.
Surviving are his wife, Donna M.; sons Kendru Jr. and Dean, both of Louisville, KY, Gregory of CO and Jeffrey K. of Slatedale; daughter Phyllis Hudson of Louisville, KY; brother Carl of Muncy; sister Betty Bauer of Allentown and 12 grandchildren.
Tri-County Cremation of Longwood, FL is handling the cremation with burial to follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.

E. Grace Grove

E. Grace Grove, 84, of 1900 Ravine Rd., Williamsport, formerly of Montoursville, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001, at her residence. Born June 15, 1917, in West Decatur, she was the daughter of Harvey B. and Edna R. Albert Grove.
She retired from the PA Department of Health as a supervisor of the State Nurses of Lycoming and Columbia County. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, the Cosmopolitan Club, the Cosmopolitan Nurses Assoc. and the Williamsport Hospital Auxillary. She was a volunteer for the Williamsport Hospital, the American Red Cross and the SPCA.
She is survived by a sister, Hazel Smith of Dunedin, FL; three nieces, Susan (Dave) Hoover, Betty (Bill) Mellor and Nancy (Joe) Van Voast and three nephews, John (Shirley) Brass, Alan (Kay) Landon and Andrew Landon. She was predeceased by sisters Mary E. Brass and Kathaleen G. Landon.
There will be a graveside service Thursday at 2 p.m. at Decatureville Cemetery, Blue Ball, PA with her cousin Rev. Glenn Gearhart officiating. Friends may call at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, Thursday from 9:30-11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17701.

Elma Metzger- Heiny

Elma Metzger-Heiny, 96, of Milton and Bradenton, FL, died Saturday, October 20, 2001, at Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton.
Born May 8, 1905, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Andrew W. and Grace Donnell Ritter. She was married to Donald L. Metzger, who preceded her in death in 1952. She then married Howard R. Heiny, who preceded her in death in 1986.
She was a 1923 graduate of Williamsport High School and a graduate of Williamsport business school. Mrs. Metzger-Heiny was a homemaker since 1964. Prior to that time, she worked as a secretary. She was a member of the Women’s Club of Williamsport. Mrs. Metzger-Heiny was a member of First Baptist Church, Milton.
Surviving are one son, Robert D. Metzger of RR1 Milton; one stepson, Arthur Heiny of Wellsboro; four granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one stepson, Robert Heiny, in 1973 and one sister, Mary Simpson, in 1969.
Visitors may call from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, Inc., 125 N. Front St., Milton. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home by the Rev. James R. Dries. Burial will be in Milton Cemetery.

Donald W. Mullings

Donald W. Mullings, 75, of Sarasota, FL, died October 18, 2001, in Sarasota. He was born January 10, 1926, in Jamaica, West Indies.
He was a veteran of WWII and a member of the Royal Air Force. He migrated to New York City in 1948. He was employed by Glamorise Foundations, Inc. from 1950-1998 and retired as vice-president of operations. He became a permanent resident of Williamsport in 1959 and retired to Sarasota in 1998.
He is survived by a son, Gary Mullings of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; two daughters, Pamela Young of Pittsburgh and Donna Harrison of Fort Washington, MD; a brother, Owen Mullings, Sr. of Nanuet, NY; a sister, Fay Chevannes of Nanuet, NY and six grandchildren, Charmaine, Elyse and Brett Young, Chelsea and Keenan Mullings and Reese Harrison.
A memorial service will be held October 27 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Robert L. Nevill

Robert L. Nevill, 91, of 1900 Ravine Rd., died Tuesday, October 23, 2001, in the Williamsport Home.
Born August 23, 1910, in Linden, he was the son of the late Charles and Harriet Lehman Nevill. His wife, the former Bernadine Fink, died in 1977.
He was the proprietor of Toy Appeal Novelties, a member of the South Williamsport Senior Citizens, and a member of Montoursville Presbyterian Church. He was an army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his companion of 24 years, Anne M. Copley of Williamsport.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Maneval Funeral Home, "A Life Celebration Home," 500 W. Fourth Street, with the Rev. Ollie Wagner officiating. Visitation 12-1. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Williamsport Home, 1900 Ravine Rd., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Harold C. Smith Jr.

Harold C. Smith, Jr., 78, of 1530 West Fourth St., died Tuesday, October 23, 2001, at the Williamsport Home.
Arrangements are being handled by Sanders Mortuary.
