Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Lottie B. Tomchick

Lottie B. Tomchick, 88, of RD1 Mansfield, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001, in Wellsboro. She was the wife of the late John Tomchick. Surviving are daughter Virginia Nicholas of RD1 Mansfield, granddaughter Susan Norris of Stow, MA and brother H.V. Ehmer of Bloomsburg.
Visitation will be 12 -1 p.m. Oct. 27 with funeral following at 1 p.m., Wellsboro United Methodist Church. Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, "A Life Celebration Home."

William R. Story

William R. Story, 67, of Route 239 Hwy., Unityville, died Wednesday, October 24, 2001, at the Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Adella I. Charles, celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on May 30.
Born April 8, 1934, in Canton, he was a son of Harold and Dorothy Mason Story. Bill had worked for the former Sprout Waldron Co., now Andritz, for 26 years and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. He was a member of the Lungerville Christian Church and a life member of the Unityville Volunteer Fire Co. Bill had served in the U.S. Army during peacetime in the 1950’s.
Surviving, in addition to his wife and his mother of Muncy, are a brother, Phillip M. Story of Muncy; two sisters, Margaret A. Bovee of Spotsylvania, VA and Florence E. McCarty of Muncy; 10 nieces and nine nephews. Bill is predeceased by his father and three nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Rev. James Harvey, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lungerville Cemetery. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family requests that any contributions be made to the Unityville Vol. Fire Co., PO Box 44, Unityville, PA 17774.

John Zuke

John Zuke, 85, of Blossburg, died October 25, 2001. He born December 18, 1915, in MacIntire, a son of Anthony and Veronica (McKay) Zuke.
John was employed by J.P. Ward Foundry in Blossburg for many years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Blossburg Area Catholic Community, Wellsboro Moose Lodge and social member of Morris Run American Legion.
Surviving are a sister, Julia Pecynski of Morris Run; a brother, Charles (Lois) Zuke of Blossburg; nieces; nephews and a dear friend, Freda Weller of Blossburg.
He was predeceased by his wife, Viola (Piontek); four brothers, William, Anthony Jr., Joseph and Theodore and a sister, Ann Soliday.
A private graveside service will be held at St. Andrews Cemetery, Blossburg. A memorial mass will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are in the care of Zwicharowski Funeral Home, Blossburg.

Albert D. Brown

Albert D. Brown, 83, of 334 Mulberry St., Montoursville, died October 26, 2001 at Sycamore Manor. Born July 15, 1918 in Osceola Mills he was the son of Fred D. and Margaret Garland Brown.
Albert retired as a district manager for U.S.F.&G. Company in Williamsport. He graduated from Penn State in 1940 and was a member of its Alumni Association. He was a member of the Montoursville Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge #515 in Osceola Mills, and the Williamsport Consistory. He was a WWII Army Veteran, and served in the Tank Corps and Air Corps as a pilot.
He and his wife the former Ezetta W. Wheatley celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on March 17, 2001.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Fred C. (Marsha) Brown of Cherryville, NC and 2 grandchildren, Sara and David Brown.
There will be a memorial service, Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. at the Montoursville Presbyterian Church with his pastor, Rev. G. Oliver Wagner officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at West Sadsbury Friends Meeting Cemetery in Christiana, PA. Friends will be received in the church, Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. Arrangements by Spitler Funeral Home, Montoursville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Montoursville Presbyterian Church, 900 Elm St., Montoursville, PA 17754.

Mildred Aikey Byers

Mildred Aikey Byers, 68 of Watsontown, died Sat., Oct. 27, 2001 at home.
The funeral service will be Wed., Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. at Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway, St., Turbotville with the Rev. A. Bruce Amme officiating. Burial will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville, Visitation will be Tues. 7-9 p.m. at funeral home. Memorial contributions to Evangelical Home Health Hospice, 1 Hospital Dr., Lewisburg, PA 17837.

E. Lucille 'Mouse' Cohick

E. Lucille “Mouse” Cohick, age 75, of Salladasburg died Friday Oct. 26, 2001 at Manor Care in Jersey Shore where she had been a guest since June.
She was born in Williamsport July 23, 1926, a daughter of Joseph A. and Mary Alta Smith Berry. She graduated from Williamsport High School and married James LaRue “Bud” Cohick May 14, 1948. Early in her life she was employed as a secretary with Darling Value and later became the secretary and bookkeeper for Cohick Bros. Trading Post in Salladasburg. She was secretary for the Salladasburg Borough Council and Hauser T.V. Cable Co. She was a member of the Salladasburg United Methodist Church and was its secretary-treasurer and a member of the Sunday school class. She retired on April 29, 1988 as secretary from the Salladasburg Elementary School and was known throughout the Salladasburg Community as a seamstress and income tax secretary.
Besides her husband, Bud, she is survived by 3 sons - David L. and his wife Judith Ann; Douglas W.; and Donald J. and his wife Janice D. all of Salladasburg; 1 daughter Patricia L. Wood and her husband Len of Sebring Fla.; 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. She was predeceased by a brother - Harold Berry and a sister Lois Ulmer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday October 30, 2001, from the Salladasburg United Methodist Church with Reverends Lloyd Shellenberger and Thomas J. Fetterolf officiating. Burial will be in Salladasburg Cemetery. Friends may call at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, “A Life Celebration Home” on Monday from 7-9 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Arcadia Unit of Manor Care 1008 Thompson St. Jersey Shore, Pa. 17740.

Helen L. Gilbert

Helen L. Gilbert, 80, of 516 Grier Street, died Friday, October 26, 2001 in the Williamsport Hospital following a brief illness.
She was married to William H. Gilbert who died on January 15, 1983.
She had worked in the cafeteria at Lycoming College.
She was born on October 6, 1921 in Clearfield, a daughter of Robert Kyle and Margaret Walker Graham.
Surviving are three sons, William K. Miller and Robert E. Gilbert both of Williamsport and David L. Gilbert of Lock Haven; two daughters, Donna M. Ford of Hillsboro, NH and Peggy Confer with whom she lived; one brother, Donald Graham of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister, Dorothy Neufer of Mincy; twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, 8:30 p.m. at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Avenue. There will be a visitation from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Trout Run Cemetery.

Pearl E. Hauser

Pearl E. Hauser, 85, of 2221 Royal Avenue, died Friday, October 26, 2001, in the Williamsport Hospital.
She was married to Charles H. Hauser who died on September 8, 1980.
She was a member of St. John’s U.M. Church.
She was born on July 5, 1916 in Williamsport, a daughter of Charles A. and Lottie A. Quigel Hafer.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ellen Williamson of Jacobus and Patricia A. Schick of Wichita, KS; two sisters, Kathryn V. Lowmiller of Williamsport and Dolly M. Crist of Jersey Shore; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Hafer.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at the Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Avenue with Rev. Kraig L. Faust, her pastor, officiating. There will be a visitation from 10 - 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers and suggest that contributions may be made to St. John’s U. M. Church Memorial Fund, 2101 Newberry Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.

Joseph B. Steppe

Joseph B. Steppe, 65, formerly of Williamsport, died at his home in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday, September 22, 2001. He was born on August 20, 1936 in Collomsville, PA, son of Joseph P. and Marie B. (Dincher) Steppe.
He was a 1954 graduate of Jersey Shore High School and an Army Veteran. Joseph was employed by the former Glyco Inc. now Lonza and was active on their softball team before relocating to Las Vegas, NV where he was a resident for 21 years and retired as a slot mechanic.
Surviving is his wife Elizabeth along with 2 daughters, Patricia Cowen, Shawnee, KS and Cathy Connolly, Goldsboro, NC; 2 sisters, Mary Thomas, Williamsport and Joann Dawson, Montoursville; 3 brothers, Clarence and Ralph, Williamsport and Paul, Duboistown; 3 step-daughters, Linda Flannelly, CA, Robin Flannelly and Kelly Foscano, NV; 1 step-son, Bobby Flannelly, AZ; and nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service was held in Las Vegas. A memorial service will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 1223 Northway on Saturday, November 3, at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Helen H. Blackwell

Mrs. Helen H. Blackwell, 85, formerly of Jersey Shore and Blanchard. Died Friday October 26, 2001 in the Susque-View Home in Lock Haven. Born November 9, 1915, in Jersey Shore, Pa. She was the daughter of Sarah Huling. She was united in marriage to Melvin M. Blackwell in October of 1935. He preceded her in death August 6, 1999. A lifelong resident of Jersey Shore, Mrs. Blackwell and her husband owned and operated Blackwells Bakery until they retired in 1972. For many years she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jersey Shore. She enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting and solving crossword puzzles. An active worker in her community she volunteered at the Jersey Shore Hospital. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was proud of the fact that she could beat anyone of them at Nintendo. Surviving are 3 daughters, Sarah Bitner of Blanchard, Judith Burke of Jersey Shore and Timi Kaukeinen of Bel Air, Maryland; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be Thursday November 1, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. in the Fredrick B. Welker Funeral Home 125 N. Main Street, Jersey Shore, Pa. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday evening in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Rev. W. Keith Rockwell her pastor will officiate.

Rod Andrew Mase

Rod Andrew Mase age 44 of Mansfield, PA died Sat. October 28, 2001 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro, Pa. Rod was born on March 25, 1957 in Wellsboro, the son of Richard and Ruth Whittaker Mase. He was a member of VFW Post #6757 and a veteran of the US Navy. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, PC 637 S. Main St. Mansfield. Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m.

Jack E. Meyer

Jack E. Meyer, 44, of 1844 Fry Ave. Williamsport, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, in Williamsport.
Arrangements are being handled by Sander’s Mortuary, 821 Diamond St.

Jack L. Spaulding

Jack L. Spaulding, age 46, of R.D.6 Wellsboro, Pa. died October 27, 2001 at home. He was born July 12, 1955 in Blossburg, Pa., the son of Mary E. Bohart Knowlton and the son of Clifford Spaulding. He was a graduate of Wellsboro High School, “1973”, and a graduate of Mid-Continent Aviation School of Aeronautics, Kansas City, MO. He was an Aerospace Engineer for LearJet, Wichita, KS, and also job shopper for Multiple Airplane Companies. Surviving are his mother, Mary E. Bohart Knowlton of Wellsboro; Sisters, Cynthia J. Spaulding and Mary Kay Knowlton, both of Wellsboro; Brother, Jeff L. Spaulding, Arnot, Pa.; Step-sister, Mary Ann Walker, Abington, Pa.; Step-brothers, Kent Knowlton, Corning, N.Y. and Garth Knowlton, Pioneer, CA; Nephew, Josh Spaulding, Arnot, Pa.; Niece, Melissa Spaulding, Arnot, Pa,; Father, Clifford Spaulding, Wellsboro, Pa.; Several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He was preceded in death by Step-father, Wayne R. Knowlton, in 1989. Friends may call at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, a “Life Celebration Home”, 139 Main Street, Wellsboro, Pa. on Monday, October 29, 2001 from 7:00-9:00 P.M. Funeral there Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor David Dennis and Pastor John McNassor officiating. Burial in Niles Valley Cemetery. If desired, Memorials may be made to Soaring Eagles, Kids Flying Program, % Mary E. Knowlton, R.D. 6 Box 239, Wellsboro, Pa. 16901.
