Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Floyd E. Sechrist

Floyd E. Sechrist, 86, of 5109 West Route 973 Highway, Cogan Station, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at his home, following a lengthy illness. His wife, the former Irene Paulhamus, died Sept. 18, 1996.
He was a self-employed dairy farmer, a member Quiggleville U.M. Church, a graduate of Williamsport High School and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Born October 25, 1915, in the home he lived in all his life, the son of Watson and Florence Wurster Sechrist.
Surviving are son, Ernest L. (Sherry) of Cogan Station; four grandchildren, Shelly S. (Chris) Davis, Todd D. Sechrist, Steven S. (Susan) Sechrist and Mark A. (Tiffany) Sechrist; four great-grandchildren, Madissen and Isaac Davis and Mason and Dawson Sechrist.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday, at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with Rev. Dr. Wayne L. Hepler officiating. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment in the State Road Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions to Quiggleville U.M. Church, 2055 State Route 973 West, Cogan Station, PA 17728.

Chester Strong

Chester Strong, of Blossburg, died Dec. 10, 2001, at the Williamsport Hospital.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Zwicharowski Funeral Home, Blossburg.

Randall Scott Trump

Randall Scott Trump, 37, of city, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001. He was born Aug. 4, 1964, in Dubois, the son of Harry S. and Marie Deemer Trump.
A U.S. Army veteran, he graduated from Williamsport HIgh School in 1982 and worked for Hon Industries for 10 years, until 2000.
He was an avid Washington Redskins and Penn State fan and enjoyed pool, golfing and baseball. He was a member of the Trout Run United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his parents, of Trout Run; his fiancee, Gloria Dodds of city; two sons, Randall S. Trump II of Trout Run and Tucker N. Trump of Cogan Station; one brother, Robert A. Trump of Trout Run; one sister and brother-in-law, Michelle Marie (Wayne) Sheppard of Trout Run; a great aunt, Julia Clark of Trout Run; a niece and a nephew.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 5 p.m. at Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St. Visitation will be 4-5 p.m.
The family will provide the flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to HOPE Enterprises, 136 Catawissa Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Ralph H. Barner

Ralph H. (Nick) Barner, 80, of 1409 Cemetery St., Jersey Shore, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Manor Care in Jersey Shore.
He was born in Sunbury, Aug. 25, 1921, a son of Gardner O. and Eva Shuman Barner. He was a corporal with the U.S. Army during WWII. At one time, he was a member of Antes Fort United Methodist Church. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, caning chairs and woodworking.
On March 7, 1946, he married the former Rosie Halstead, who survives. He was employed for over 34 years with Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Nancy Ingraham and her husband John of Jersey Shore; two sons, Steven J. Barner and his wife Maryann of Jersey Shore and Gary W. Barner and his wife Barbara of Mill Hall; one brother, Raymond Barner of Binghamton, NY and one sister, Eva Jones of Owego, NY; six grandchildren Jennifer, Reggie, Chad, Amanda, Kevin and Patrick and one great-granddaughter, Sabrina. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul and "Gabe" Barner and an infant sister.
Private family funeral services will be held at 1:30 Wednesday at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, "A Life Celebration Home," 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, with Pastor Richard D. Waters, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Williamsport, officiating. Interment will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery.
His family suggests contributions be made to the Alzheimers Disease Association, 71 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.

Augusta R. Fisher

Augusta R. Fisher departed this life on December 11, 2001, at Rose View Center in Williamsport. She was the wife of the late Oscar S. Fisher.
Mrs. Fisher was born in Ruckersville, VA on November 17, 1904 and recently celebrated her 97th birthday. She was the daughter of the late Adaline and General Lewis Taylor.
At an early age, Mrs. Fisher accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized as a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Stanardsville, VA. She moved to Williamsport in her early teens, graduated from Williamsport High School in 1927 and attended Hampton Institute in Hampton, VA.
Mrs. Fisher was a faithful, long-standing member of the Shiloh Baptist Church, where she was president of the Harmony Club and served for many years on the Missionary and Deaconness Boards.
In February 1996, the Williamsport Cultural Enrichment Committee and the Center Association recognized her for outstanding church and community service.
She is survived by five sons, George L. of Duarte, CA, J. Richard and Harold of Piscataway, NJ, Edward Lee of Oneonta, NY and Charles L. of city; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three nieces, Betty Wilder and Virginia Taylor and one grand-niece, Denise Wilder, all of New York City. She leaves her church family and a host of friends.
Mrs. Fisher was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgiana Williams and Bertha Butler; one brother, Roy Walker and one grandson, Ronnie Fisher.
The funeral service will be Friday, December 14, at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 433 Walnut St., with the Rev. Spurgeon East, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 13, from 7-9 p.m. at the Allen and Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to Shiloh Baptist Church Building Fund, 433 Walnut St., Williamsport, PA 17701.

George J. Hendershot

George J. Hendershot, 80, of 97 Eckard Road, Cogan Station, died Monday, December 10, 2001, at his home. He and his wife, the former Lois P. Hostrander, celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary January 31.
Born October 18, 1921, in Morrisdale, George was a son of Joseph and Mary Rhenish Hendershot. He was an Army veteran of WWII. George was a member of the Church of the Ascension, the Wheel Inn and a life member of the LeRoy O. Buck Post 7863, VFW.
He retired after 33 years with Avco Lycoming and Textron. He also was a fencing and landscape contractor and developed and owned Deerfield Mobile Home Park.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Ronny G. of LaBelle, FL, Larry D. of Williamsport and George J. "Chip" II of Watsontown; a daughter, Lucille "Bunny" Knight of Centre Hall; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary Lockcuff of Scranton. He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in Ascension Church, 2111 Linn St., with the Rev. Charles J. Cummings officiating. Burial with military honors by the Korean War Veterans will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport, from 6-8 p.m. Friday. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The family will provide the flowers.

Jack L. Kurtz

Jack L. Kurtz, 70, of 8265 South Route 44 Highway, Williamsport, died Monday, December 10, 2001, as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident. Born May 22, 1931, in Williamsport, Jack was a son of Jacob and Florence Noragong Kurtz.
Jack was a graduate of South Williamsport High School and Lycoming College and took numerous banker’s courses. He retired as a vice-president and senior trust officer of the former Commonwealth Bank. A Korean War veteran, Jack was a member of the American Legion in Jersey Shore and the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. A mason, he also belonged to the Williamsport Consistory and Zafar Grotto as well as the Newberry Independent Club and the National Rifle Association.
Surviving are his wife of 29 years, the former Bonnie J. Peters; three sons, Michael S. of Tacoma, WA, Thomas J. of city and Timothy S. of Allenwood; a daughter, Suzanne M. Stopper of city; a brother, Richard of Trout Run; a sister, Jane Kline of New Castle, DE and five grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held in Wildwood Cemetery with the Rev. Fr. John K. Manno of the Annunciation Church officiating. Arrangements by Sanders Mortuary.

James T. Manhart

James T. Manhart, 76, of 963 Scaife Road, Williamsport, died Dec. 10, 2001, at Rose View Manor. Born Sept. 21, 1925, in Catawissa, he was the son of Pardee and Emma Watkins Manhart.
Mr. Manhart was the widower of the former Evelyn J. Rupert. He was retired from Milco Industries in Bloomsburg and had served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are three sons, Terry L. of Elmira, NY; Thomas J. of Barbours and Claire (Pete) of Bloomsburg and 13 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. John W. Pittenger of Loyalsock Baptist Church officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior from 6:30-7:30 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Loyalsock Baptist Church, 9121 E. Route 973 Highway, Montoursville, PA 17754.

Armond S. Marshall

Armond S. (Bud) Marshall, 83, of 2277 Mosser Ave., Williamsport, died Dec. 11, 2001, at Rose View Center. Born April 12, 1918, in Williamsport, he was the son of Smith and Amelia Marshall. He was married to the former Edith J. Vought, and they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on July 4th.
Mr. Marshall retired after 36 years with the Williamsport Area School District during which 32 years were at the Lose Elementary School. He was a member of the Lycoming Co. Historical Society and was known for his patriotism.
Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, James E. of Cogan Station; a daughter, Bonnie L. DeGarmo of Williamsport; a sister, Lela Younkin of Williamsport; three grandchildren, Malcolm L. Erb III, Benjamin D. and Amber L. Marshall and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 2-3 p.m. and the funeral service at 3 p.m. Friday at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Harry E. Hare, associate pastor of the Community Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Ernestine M. McMahon

Ernestine M. McMahon, 89, a guest at Rose View Center, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at the Williamsport Hospital. Born Dec. 29, 1911, in Montgomery, she was a daughter of Berton and Cora (Hill) Peck. Mrs. McMahon was a homemaker and a former member of the South Williamsport Senior Citizens. Her husband, James J. McMahon, died Feb. 20, 1983.
Surviving is a son, Ronald McMahon of Bloomsburg; two daughters, Suzanne Chesnut of Montoursville and Nancy Arnold of Colonial Beach, VA; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Noll Funeral Home, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport, with the Reverend Sandra Foster, pastor of Trout Run United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Edith B. Rich

Edith B. Rich, 83, of 129 Peeples Road, Lake Como, FL, died Friday, November 30, 2001, at her home.
Born October 4, 1918, in Jackson County, WV, she was a daughter of Thomas A. and Lema J. Vaught Babb. She was a 1937 graduate of Williamsport High School. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert Lee Rich, Jr.; two daughters, Janice Estes of Woodlawn, VA and Alcinda Ruuskanen of Cameron, MO; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas A. "Pat" Babb and a sister, Virginia Secules.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. Stephen Parr of St. John’s U.M.C. officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park.
