Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Clifford J. Mily

Clifford J. Mily, 85, of 228 Carnation Lane, Mahoning Township, Lehighton, died Thursday in Weatherwood, Weatherly. He was the husband of Eleanor M. (Hummel) Mily. They observed their 27th wedding anniversary in May.

He was an electrical engineer for Western Electric, Laureldale, Berks County, for 18 years before retiring in 1976, and previously was a staff engineer for the former Luria Engineering, Bethlehem, for eight years, and a manager of the radio-phonograph salon at Steinway and Sons, New York, N.Y., from 1939-44.

Born in New York City, he was a son of the late Edward and Charlotte (Fischer) Mily.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lehighton.

Mily was a 1933 graduate of the Cooper Union Institute of Technology, New York City.

A 32nd degree Mason, he belonged to F. and A.M. Lodge No. 621, Lehighton, and the Lehigh Consistory, Allentown.

The deceased was president of the Lehighton Rotary Club from 1980-81, and its secretary from 1972-82. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 1988.

Mily was a former chairman of the Mahoning Township Zoning Hearing Board, serving for eight years, and a member of the Carbon County Industrial Development Authority for 12 years.

He was a member of the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Lehighton, and was a volunteer worker in the hospital's medical records department.

Mily held a private pilot's license.

Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Edward J. of Camp Hill and Lawrence J. of Worthington, Ohio; a daughter, Deborah K., wife of Christopher Doyle of Elverson, Chester County; a sister, Marian Mainelli of Daytona Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandson.

The Kenneth N. Phifer Funeral Home, Third and Alum streets, Lehighton, is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert F. Risavy

Robert F. "Guzda" Risavy, 56, of 430 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, formerly of Summit Hill, died Thursday in the Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale.

He worked for Tommy's Bakery, Summit Hill.

Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Emery and Mary (Mitchalk) Risavy.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, and formerly served on the Summit Hill Borough Council.

Risavy was a 1959 graduate of the former Summit Hill High School.

Surviving are a son Robert of Lansford; a brother Kenneth of Philadelphia; and three sisters, Geraldine, wife of Roger Troeder of Warminster, Bucks County, Rosemary Scheeler of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Joan Mascia of Rochester, Mich.

The Thomas J. Parambo Funeral Home, 54 W. Fell St., Summit Hill, is in charge of the arrangements.

Helen Kusko

Helen Kusko, 79, of 350 W. Railroad St., Nesquehoning, died Thursday in her home.

Born in Nesquehoning, she was a daughter of the late Wash and Mary (Starry) Kusko.

She was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Nesquehoning.

Surviving are nieces and a nephew.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, John, Stephen, Michael and George.

The Bruce A. Nalesnik Funeral Home, 57 W. Center St., Nesquehoning, is in charge of the arrangements.

George Rompella

George Rompella, 88, of 4451 Reservoir Road, Macungie, died Thursday in the Hospice Inpatient Unit of the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Arlene E. (Hill) Rompella. They observed their 64th wedding anniversary last November.

He was a tower man for the Central Railroad of New Jersey for 48 years before retiring in 1968.

Born in Hazleton, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Pipas) Rompella.

He was a member of Salem Evangelical Free Church, Trexlertown.

Surviving in addition to his widow are four sons, Garry B. of Fleetwood, Douglas of Bethlehem, George of Lancaster and Robert of Jim Thorpe; a daughter, Eileen M., wife of Larry Schoepple of Macungie; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Horvat

Mrs. Mary Horvat, 75, of 232 E. Ridge St., Lansford, died Thursday in her home. She was the widow of Frank F. Horvat.

She was a registered nurse at the Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center, Plainfield, N.J., for 20 years.

Born in Summit Hill, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Mary Jasinski.

She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Lansford.

Mrs. Horvat was an Army veteran of World War II, having served as a lieutenant in the South Pacific. She belonged to the Lansford American Legion Post.

Surviving are a son Frank of Lansford; a daughter Francine, wife of Richard Labonte of Hartford, Conn.; a brother Martin in New Jersey; a sister Florence, wife of Thomas Snyder of Summit Hill; and four grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a brother Chester and a sister Genevieve.

The Skrabak-Parambo Funeral Home, 210 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, is in charge of the arrangements.

Harold Hagemann

Harold Hagemann, 90, of Green meadows, Greenleaf Street, Allentown, formerly of 14th Avenue, Bethlehem, died Thursday in the Muhlenberg Hospital Center, Bethlehem. He was the husband of the late Jennie A. (Feminella) Hagemann.

He was a section chief for Western Electric, formerly of Allentown, for 41 years before retiring in 1968.

Born in Jersey City, N.J., he was a son of the late William and Pauline (Herald) Hageman.

He was a member of SS. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Bethlehem.

Surviving are a son, Harold R., and a daughter Diane, wife of George Schiffer, both of Bethlehem; a sister, Elizabeth Fritz of Danielsville; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Ernest A. Rehrig

Ernest A. Rehrig, 82, of 523 Spring St., Bowmanstown, died Thursday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Doris A. (Green) Rehrig. They would have observed their 49th wedding anniversary on Sept. 18.

He was a counter intelligence officer for the U.S. Department of the Defense for 26 years, having worked in various cities in Germany. From 1971 until retiring in 1980, he was a district manager for The Morning Call's Lehighton office.

Born in Bowmanstown, he was a son of the late August W. and Maggie (Bartholomew) Rehrig.

He was an Army veteran, serving four years as a signal intelligence officer.

Surviving in addition to his widow are three sons, Gary A., Thomas A. and Bart A., and a brother Paul, all of Bowmanstown; and three grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton and Delmas; and a stepsister, Lillian Heiney.

The Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, is in charge of the arrangements.

Nettie Nester

Nettie Nester, 86, of 142 Rhume St., Nesquehoning, died Wednesday in the Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale.

She was a sewer for the Kaijay Pants Company, Nesquehoning, before retiring.

Born in Nesquehoning, she was a daughter of the late Luke and Fannie (Barna) Nester.

She was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Nesquehoning.

Surviving are a brother Joseph of Nesquehoning; and nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Steve, John, Harry and Metro; and four sisters, Kate Gallagher, Fanny Polley, Mary Prusak and Antoinette Laputka.

Elizabeth Benek

Elizabeth Benek, 79, of 328 W. Kline Ave., Lansford, died Thursday in the Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale.

She was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Svetz) Benek.

The Al M. Sverchek Funeral Home, Powell and East Bertsch streets, Lansford, is in charge of the arrangements.

Samuel J. Sully

Samuel J. Sully, 85, of Jim Thorpe, died Thursday in his home. He was the husband of Kathryn "Katie" (Dreisbach) Sully. They observed their 59th wedding anniversary in May.

He was the owner and operator of the former Sully's Shoe Repair, Jim Thorpe, for 39 years before working for Mack Trucks, Inc., Allentown, for several years before retiring. He later drove bus for the Jim Thorpe Area School District for 17 years.

Born in Nesquehoning, he was a son of the late John and Josephine (Perrone) Sully, and had resided in Jim Thorpe for 84 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe.

Sully was a graduate of the former East Mauch Chunk High School, where he played football, baseball and basketball for the Inter Chunk high school teams.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Samuel Jr. of Allentown; two brothers, William in California and Fred of Allentown; a sister, Emily Baker in California; and nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kay Louise; and two brothers, Nicholas and Ernest.

The David J. Stianche Funeral Home, 123 Center St., Jim Thorpe, is in charge of the arrangements.

Florence M. Fredericks

Florence M. Fredericks, 77, of 338 North Third St., Lehighton, died late Friday in the Mahoning Valley Nursing Home. She was the widow of John L. Fredericks, who died in 1991.

Born in Lehighton, she was a daughter of the late William and Carrie (Garber) Boger.

She was of the Lutheran faith.

Surviving are two sons, John L. Jr. and Harold N. Fredericks, both of Lehighton; two daughters, Nancy Williams of White Haven and Joann, wife of Woodie Nace of Lehighton; two brothers, William Boger of Lehighton and Norman Boger of Palmerton. Also five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, Fourth and Iron Streets, Lehighton, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Thomas A. Price Sr.

Thomas A. Price Sr., 78, of Locust Valley, died Sunday in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was the husband of Yvonne (Aiken) Price.

He was a retired coal miner.

Born in Locust Valley, he was a son of the late Robert and Mary (Skeath) Price.

He was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Rush Township.

Price was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater of Operations and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Golden Lions.

He was a life member of the Ryan Township Fire Company and a member of the V.F.W. Post 8253, West Hazleton, and American Legion Post 973, Quakake.

Surviving in addition to his widow are three daughters, Mary Boland of Deer Lake, Loretta Beltz of Quakake, and Debbie of Lansford; two sons, Stanley of Still Creek and Thomas Jr. of Barnesville; two sisters, Ruth Herring and Lydia Fritz, both of Locust Valley; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Price; two daughters, Priscilla Smith and Shirley Russell; a brother Robert; and four sisters, Lettie Herring, Edna Reiseg, Anna Melnick and Mary.

The Lamar Christ Funeral Home, Hometown, is in charge of the arrangements.
