Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Sister M. Brenda

Sister M. Brenda, 84, a Missionary Sister of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus of St. Michael Convent, Reading, died Friday at home.

She worked in the business offices of the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown, and St. Mary Hospital, Athens, Ga., before retiring in 1995, and previously had taught at various schools in the Allentown Diocese until 1958.

Born in Seek, Coaldale, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Caroline (Cech) Serina.

She entered the convent in 1932 and graduated from the University of Dayton.

Surviving are a brother Frank of Lansford; three sisters, Veronica Bazik of Lansford, Mary O'Neill of Allentown, and Esther Giles of Woodside, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Method, Cyril, Joseph and Michael.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday afternoon in the convent chapel.

Fredericks services

Funeral services for Mrs. Florence M. Fredericks, 77, of 338 N. Third St., Lehighton, who died Friday in the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Convalescent Center, Mahoning Township, will be held at 8 o'clock tonight in the Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, Fourth and Iron streets, Lehighton, with the Rev. Paul M. Eberts officiating, followed by interment in the Lehighton Cemetery. Calling hours are scheduled from 6-8 o'clock tonight.

In addition to the survivors listed in Saturday's obituary, Mrs. Fredericks is also survived by a sister, May Wentz of Lehighton; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Joseph Ehritz Jr.

Joseph Ehritz Jr., 71, of Allentown, died Friday in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Eleanor H. (Winter) Ehritz. They observed their 47th wedding anniversary in June.

A carpenter, he worked for Lehigh Lumber Company, East Allen Township, for 27 years before retiring in 1988, and previously had been employed by the former Roxy Linoleum, Allentown, Allentown, for 17 years.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Joseph Sr. and Aloise (Hirtenfelder) Ehritz.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Nesquehoning.

Ehritz was a Navy veteran of World War II.

The deceased was a member of the East Allen Fireman's Relief Association.

Surviving in addition to his widow are four sons, Joseph C. of Andreas, Kevin M. of Nesquehoning, Michael J. of Northampton and James D. of Allentown; two daughters, Debra A., wife of Robert Kriebel of Bethlehem, and Kathleen S., wife of Barry L. Ruch Sr. of Lehighton; a brother, William J. of Allentown; and five grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard J.; and a daughter, Barbara Ann.

Anthony Coiro

Anthony Coiro, 69, of 315 Algonkin Road, Jim Thorpe, died Saturday in his home. He was the husband of Theresa (McDermott) Coiro. They observed their 46th wedding anniversary last Oct. 14.

He retired in 1987 after serving four years as president of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 822, Paterson, N.J., and previously had been a bus driver for New Jersey Transit.

Born in Newark, N.J., he was a son of the late Joseph and Julia (Warjay) Coiro.

An Army veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Post 304, Jim Thorpe.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Anthony Jr. of Kissimmee, Fla.; three daughters, Linda E., wife of Robert Higgins of Manasquan, N.J., Diane M., wife of Clay Isenhuor of Lincoln Park, N.J., and Joyce C., wife of Yale Harr of Hewitt, N.J.; and eight grandchildren.

Julius J. Steber

Julius J. Steber of 1745 Melbourne Road, Baltimore, Md., formerly of the Hazleton area, died Friday in the Johns Hopkins Medical Center, Baltimore. He was the husband of Janet Steber.

He was employed by Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., Baltimore.

Born in Beaver Meadows, he was a son of the late John S. and Anna E. (Leechak) Steber.

He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Church, Baltimore.

Steber was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Surviving in addition to his widow are three sons, Kenneth, John and Richard, and two daughters, Laura and Cecily, all of the Baltimore area; a brother Daniel of Hazleton; three sisters, Emily Nilles of Hazleton, Wilma Rose of Nesquehoning and Lucy Carsia of Allentown; five grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Eugene J. McHugh

Eugene J. "Duffy" McHugh, 57, of 20 N. Hancock St., McAdoo, died Sunday morning in the Hazleton-St. Joseph Medical Center. He was the husband of Barbara (Billig) McHugh. They were married for 31 years.

Prior to retiring in 1995, he was a lineman for the Pennsylvania Power & Light Company, working out of its Hazleton office

Born in Hazleton, he was a son of the late James and Anna (Donahue) McHugh.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, McAdoo, and the Holy Name Society of the parish.

He was an assistant fire chief for the McAdoo Fire Company for 25 years, and a member of its ambulance association, having received life memberships from both groups.

Surviving in addition to his widow are four sons, Eugene J., Kevin and Carl, all of McAdoo, and Kurt, at home; a daughter Lisa, a student at King's College, Wilkes-Barre; two brothers, John of Elizabethtown, N.J., and Daniel of McAdoo; three sisters, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Hill of Tresckow, Mrs. Donald (Eileen) Flaim of Nuremberg and Mrs. Theodore (Ann) Shane of McAdoo; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James and Robert.

Joseph Santa Cruz

Joseph Santa Cruz, 68, of 302 Willow Brook Road, Boothwyn, Delaware County, formerly of Kelayres, died Thursday. He was the husband of Geraldine (Halacky) Santa Cruz, a former resident of Beaver Meadows.

He was employed by both the Ford Motor Company and General Motors of Chester.

He was the son of the late Joseph and Vincenza (Straquadenio) Santa Cruz.

Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Joseph and Mark, both of Boothwyn; three sisters, Mary Riotto, Rose Pachence, and Mrs. John (Jennie) Schrum, all of McAdoo; a granddaughter and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. William J. Yadush

Mrs. Mary "Mamie" Yadush, 71, of Whitehall Township, died Friday in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of William J. Yadush. They observed their 49th wedding anniversary last Nivember.

She was a sewing machine operator for the former Cross Country Clothes, Egypt, for 35 years before retiring in 1988.

Born in Ormrod, she was a daughter of the late John and Victoria (Romanic) Gavlick.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Northampton.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four daughters, Vicki Bauer of Slatington, Karen Sefranek of North Whitehall Township, Barbara Hoffman of Fogelsville, and Marie, at home; two sons, William of Allentown and John of Egypt and Philadelphia; a brother, Mike of Ormrod; a sister, Marjorie Kokolus of North Whitehall Township; and seven grandchildren.

Jane K. Losch

Jane K. Losch, 85, formerly of Emmaus, died Friday in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown.

She was a shirt seamstress for Emmaus Manufacturing for 20 years before retiring in 1980.

Born in Weisenberg Township, she was a daughter of the late David P. and Eva (Rhoads) Kroninger.

She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Old Zionsville.

Surviving are three sons, Bruce A. and Larry E., both of Emmaus, and Timothy of Center Valley; a sister, Pearl Heller of Blandon; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth A. Benek

Elizabeth A. Benek, 79, of 328 W. Kline Ave., Lansford, died Thursday in the Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale.

She was a machine operator for the former Lansford Apparel until retiring.

Born in Lansford, she was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Svetz) Benek.

She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Lansford, and the First Catholic Slovak Union of the church.

Surviving are six brothers, John of Brielle, N.J., Michael of Zellwood, Fla., William of Summit Hill, Al of Jersey City, N.J., Frank of Binghamton, N.Y., and Joseph of Bethlehem; a sister, Mrs. Marie Toth of the Bronx, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother Stephen and a sister, Anna Siesing.

The Al M. Sverchek Funeral Home, Powell and East Bertsch streets, Lansford, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. John C. Heiney

Mrs. Corrine M. Heiney, 63, of Allentown, died Thursday in the Liberty Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Allentown. She was the wife of John C. Heiney. They observed their 26th wedding anniversary last November.

She was a member of the kitchen staff at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, for several years during the 1960s.

Born in Pen Argyl, she was a daughter of the late William H. Sr. and Letticia C. (Paynter) Stout.

She was a member of the Petersville Rod and Gun Club.

Surviving are three sons, Frederick W. Ohmacht in Maine, Gary L. Ohmacht of Bath, and William J. Ohmacht of Allentown; three daughters, Brenda L. Reinhart of Slatington, Lori A. Heiney of Allentown, and Lisa M. Waldt of Macungie; a brother, William H. Jr. of Allentown; a stepdaughter, Karen Buss of Steel City; and 11 grandchildren.

Mrs. Angelo Zanette

Mrs. Rose Zanette, 90, formerly of Pen Argyl, died Friday in the Laurel Manor, Stroudsburg, where she resided. She was the wife of Angelo Zanette. They observed their 56th wedding anniversary in May.

She and her husband were blouse contractors in Brodheadsville until retiring in 1985.

Born in Newark, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Carlo and Elissa (Caporaso) Bosco.

She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Pen Argyl.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Carla Albanese and Louise Hunt, both of Bethlehem; three sisters, Amelia Clifford of Easton and Elissa Lobb and Ida, both of Pen Argyl; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Carl J. Schoenberger

Carl J. Schoenberger, 69, of 141 Millway, Lehighton, died Sunday evening at the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. He was the husband of Anneliese (Zurnieden) Schoenberger.

Retiring in 1984, he was employed as a heavy machine operator for the borough of Lehighton.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War serving with the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 314, Lehighton, and the Last Man's Club of World War II and the Vietnam War.

Surviving with his wife are a son, Jospeh of Dorchester, Iowa; a brother, George of Weissport; a sister, Mary R. Lindermuth of Lehighton; and a grandson.

The Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, Fourth and Iron streets, Lehighton, is in charge of arrangements.

Mahlon O. Schoch

Mahlon O. Schoch, 73, of 2336 E. Lizard Creek Road, Lehighton, died Sunday in his home. He was the husband of Martha A. (Griffin) Schoch and the late Louise (Sefing) Schoch. He and his second wife observed their 13th wedding anniversary this month.

He worked for Blue Ridge Pressure Casting Company, Lehighton, for 39 years before retiring in 1987.

Born in West Bowmans, he was a son of the late Emmett F. and Leona (Reber) Schoch.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving in addition to his widow are two daughters, Sandra, wife of Byron Craig of Lehighton, and Terry of Kunkletown; a son Christian of Jim Thorpe; two sisters, Perma, wife of Harold Correll of Lehighton, and Delores, wife of Sterling Park of Slatington; a stepdaughter Carol, wife of Frederick Kimmerly of Lehighton; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

The Thomas K. Thomas Funeral Home, 145 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, is in charge of the arrangements.

Schoenberger services

Funeral services for Carl J. Schoenberger, 69, of 141 Millway, Lehighton, who died Sunday in the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton, will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday from the Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, Fourth and Iron streets, Lehighton. Interment will be in the Union Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
