Harold J.D. Serfass

Harold J.D. "Bub" Serfass, 73, of 455 W. Church St., Slatington, died Saturday in his home. He was the husband of Elaine A. (Roberts) Serfass. They observed their 54th wedding anniversary in August.

He was an owner and operartor of Serfass Exxon, Slatington, for 37 years before retiring in 1987.

Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Martin J. and Mary E. (Boyer) Serfass.

He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Emerald, where he was a past trustee and church representative for Boy Scout Troop 55.

Serfass was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of the Allen O. Delke American Legion Post 16, Slatington.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Scott H., at home; a daughter, Barbara S., . wife of Joseph J. Harder of Slatington; a sister, June Fields of Palmerton; a grandson and two great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Rickey M.

Marvin W. Smith

Marvin W. Smith, 56, of Germansville, died Friday in his home. He was the husband of Darlene R. (Kressley) Smith. They observed their 33rd wedding anniversary this month.

He was a truck driver for Berks Products, Kutztown, for the past 23 years, and also had been a part-time garmer in Germansville.

Born in Kutztown, he was a son of the late Elmer and Sadie (Dietrich) Smith.

He was a member of New Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Lenhartsville.

Surviving in addition to his widow are two daughters, Connie A., wife of Dale Schmidt of Germansville, and Carolee M., at home; a son, Kevin L., at home; and two brothers, Nevin and Russell, both of Kutztown.

Mrs. Anastasia Franya

Mrs. Anastasia Franya, 84, of 1207 Myrtle Road, Walnutport, died Saturday in the home of her daughter, Justine German of Walnutport.

The deceased was the widow of Joseph J. Franya.

Born in Shenandoah, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Pauline (Yonosh) Yonosh.

She was a member of St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church, Palmerton.

Surviving in addition to her daughter are another daughter, Patricia A., wife of Robert Buskirk, and two sons, Ronald E. and David M., all of Walnutport; two brothers, Michael of Whitehall Township and John of Coplay; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph S.

The Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, is in charge of the arrangements.

Carl D. Sell

Carl David "Dave" Sell, 37, of Weatherly, was pronounced dead Saturday at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, following a morotcycle accident on the Weatherly-White Haven Road. He was the husband of Judy (Michala) Sell.

He was the proprietor of Sell's Towing and Autobody, Weatherly.

Born in Evanston, Ill., he was a son of Carl D. Sr. and Geraldine (Ericsson) Sell of Weatherly.

The deceased was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, Hazleton.

He was a 1979 graduate of Weatherly Area High School.

Surviving in addition to his widow and parents are a son Jason, at home; four sisters, Mrs. Frank (Christine) Lambert of Easton, Betsy Jean Kaske Jordan of Pasadena, Md., Mrs. Paul (Melissa) Perchansky of Hazleton and Mrs. Bruce (Kimberly) Hinkle of McAdoo; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward A. Kaskie, who died in 1984.

Mildred A. Searfoss

Mildred A. Searfoss, 77, of White Haven, died Sunday in her home.

Born in White Haven, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Eva (Dinko) Ackerman, and had lived in the White Haven area all of her life.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, White Haven.

Surviving are a son Earl of Nesquehoning; a sister Otelia of White Haven; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by a son Donald, who died in 1996; and a sister, Beatrice Henning.

Mrs. Anna M. Genevese

Mrs. Anna M. Genevese, 83, of 227 E. 24th St., Northampton, died Friday in the St. Luke Hospital, Allentown. She was the widow of Adam A. Genevese.

Born in Whitehall Township, she was a daughter of the late John and Susan (Mlak) Madeya.

She was a member of St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church, North Catasauqua.

Surviving are two daughters, Virginia, wife of Stephen Fodor, and Barbara, wife of Barry Batz Sr., both of Northampton; two sons, Albert J. of Catasauqua and John R. of Northampton; eight sisters, Mrs. Helen E. Geiger and Ethel, wife of John Geosits, both of Whitehall, Mrs. Pauline Shunk of Berlin, Wayne County, Mrs. Louise Gregus of Bethlehem, Susan, wife of Joseph Karol, and Ceicila, wife of Albert Bristol, both of Allentown, Mrs. Elsie Adams of Coplay and Elaine, wife of Louis Guzzi of Easton; two brothers, Albert of Whitehall and Michael of Cherryville; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Larry G. Tucker

Mrs. Diane L. Tucker, 41, of Ross Township, died Friday in the Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown. She was the wife of Larry G. Tucker. They observed their 18th wedding anniversary last November.

She worked in the mailroom and print shop of H.A. Berkheimer, Bangor.

Born in Easton, she was a daughter of Carl and Hilda (Shook) Cooper of Easton.

The deceased was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Forks Township.

Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are two daughters, Sara B., wife of Jason Kovacs, and Laurel A., and a brother, Micah J., all of Saylorsburg; a sister, Kerry Walters of Bangor; and a brother Noel of Easton.

Mrs. Dora M. Brotzman

Mrs. Dora M. Brotzman, 93, of West Wilkes-Barre Street, Easton, died Thursday in PersonaCare at Eastwood, Wilson. She was the widow of Augustus C. Brotzman.

She was employed by the Ingersoll-Rand Company, Phillipsburg, N.J., many years ago.

Born in Weissport, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Anna (O'Daniels) Frankenfield.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Easton, where she belonged to the choir for 50 years.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Agnes H. Moyer

Mrs. Agnes H. Moyer, 73, of 342 Arlington St., Tamaqua, died Saturday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital Center, Salisbury Township. She was the widow of the late William J. Moyer.

Prior to retiring, she was employed by the former Tamaqua Frocks.

Born in Tamaqua, she was a daughter of the late Edward T. and Clara (Weaver) Hughes.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Tamaqua.

Surviving are two daughters, Susan E. and Kristine A. Moyer, both of Tamaqua.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin T.

The E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, is in charge of the arrangements.

James J. McLaughlin, Jr.

James J. McLaughlin Jr., 56, of Holbrook, N.Y., died Friday in New York. He was the husband of Evelyn McLaughlin.

He was administrator of Air Traffic Control at McArthur Airport, Islip, N.Y.

Born in Lansford, he was a son of Mrs. Ethel McLaughlin of Tamaqua and the late James McLaughlin Sr.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he was also president of the Lansford High School Class of 1958.

Surviving in addition to his widow and mother are two sons, Garry and Derek, both of Holbrook, N.Y.; a sister, Patricia Palermo of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, 11:30 a.m., in St. Jerome Catholic Church, Tamaqua.

Mrs. Fred D. Shipwash

Mrs. Ingeborg H. Shipwash, 60, of 1098 Riverview Drive, Walnutport, died Wednesday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of Fred D. Shipwash. They observed their 43rd wedding anniversary last November.

Born in Ausfrieland, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Gertrude (Bleul) Oertner.

She was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband are six sons, Randolph C., Timothy A. and Mark K., all of Palmerton, Michael B. of Schnecksville, Wyatt F. of Lehighton and Donald R. of Cherryville; five brothers, Kurt and Seigfried, both of Orefield, Walter of Slatington and William and Conroy, both of Tamaqua; two sisters, MaryAnn, wife of Larry Ulrich of Orefield, and Rosalie, wife of Jay Hollenbach of Tamaqua; and 13 grandchildren.

The Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Carlos M. Naranjo

Mrs. Norca E. Naranjo, 45, of Effort, died Wednesday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. She was the wife of Carlos M. Naranjo. They observed their 24th wedding anniversary last December.

A graduate of the Wilfred Academy, Newark, N.J., she was employed by Holiday Hair, Gilbert, for the past 1-1/2 years.

Born in Patillas, Puerto Rico, she was a daughter of the late Regino and Isabel (Rodriguez) Lebron.

She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Assembly of God, Brodheadsville.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Carlos E. in Japan and Darwin L. and Orlando V., both at home; a daughter, Nadia R., at home; three brothers and five sisters.

The Kresge Funeral Home, Rt. 209, Brodheadsville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mikovich services

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Mikovich, 87, of 121 E. High St., Nesquehoning, who died Thursday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John the Baptist American-Russian Orthodox Church, 9 W. Railroad St., Nesquehoning, followed by interment in the church cemetery, Nesquehoning. Calling hours are scheduled from 9-11 a.m. Saturday in the church.

In addition to the survivors listed in yesterday's obituary, Mrs. Mikovich is also survived by a great-great-grandchild.

The Puschak Funeral Home, 208 First St., Coaldale, is in charge of the arrangements.

Henry Hoppe

Henry Hoppe, 69, of Effort, formerly of Bergen County, N.J., and Germany, died Wednesday in his home. He was the husband of Anna (Puls) Hoppe. They observed their 46th wedding anniversary last January.

He was an embroidery manufacturer for Arco Embroidery, Rochelle Park, N.J., for 40 years before retiring in 1993.

Born in East Orange, N.J., he was a son of the late Henry William and Cecelia (Sterenburg) Hoppe.

He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Brodheadsville.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Gordon Henry of New York City, N.Y.; a daughter, Brenda Ann, wife of Anthony Colucci of Effort; a sister Cecelia in Germany; and a granddaughter.
