Robin M. Snyder

Robin M. Snyder, 49, of Bradford, died Sunday (Nov. 7, 2004) in Bradford Regional Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 31, 1955, in Bradford.

She was a lifetime resident of the area, graduating from Bradford Area High School, and was a member of the Eagles Aerie #2432 Auxiliary and former member of the Women of the Moose Chapter #330.

She was a bartender at JJ's Saloon.

Surviving are her mother, Norma Blair Snyder of Bradford; one daughter, Melissa Snyder of Bradford; one son, Daniel Snyder of Bradford; one grandson, Brandon Sherk; four sisters, Patricia Troutman, Cheryl Dianne (Jim) Lapallo, Karen L. Snyder and Loey A. Snyder, all of Bradford; two brothers, Larry A. (Vicki) Snyder of Massillon, Ohio, and Stephen L. (Donna) Snyder of Emporium; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Rodney Snyder.

Funeral and committal services were held Wednesday (Nov. 10, 2004) at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., East Main Street, Bradford with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The benefit scheduled for Ms. Snyder from 2 p.m. to midnight Nov. 20 at the Eagles will still be held.

Shirley E. Bresslin

Shirley E. Bresslin, 94, a longtime resident of Austin, died Tuesday (Oct. 5, 2004) in the Guy and Mary Felt Manor in Emporium.

She was born Sept. 16, 1910, in Littleton, Maine, a daughter of Frank I. and Maggie A. MacLeod Tingley. On April 14, 1937 in Olean, N.Y., she married Francis Charles "Tiff" Bresslin, who died in June 2, 1984.

Mrs. Bresslin was a lifelong resident of Austin. She was a 1929 graduate of Austin Area High School.

She had been employed as a clerk at Gilroy's Store and Schlarp's Store in Austin and was later employed as a substitute mail carrier and was the wage tax collector for the Austin Borough for more than 30 years.

Mrs. Bresslin was a member of the Austin United Methodist Church for more than 60 years where she served as organist and choir director and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She also served as scout master in Austin for many years and in 1960, she received the District Scouter Award.

She was a member and pastor worthy matron of the former Mecca Chapter #217 Order of Eastern Star, now affiliated with Eulalia Chapter #148 Order of Eastern Star of Coudersport. She was also very active with the Austin Senior Citizens.
She is survived by two sons, Bruce "Tiff" (Pam) Bresslin and Terry "Monk" (Sandy) Bresslin, both of Austin; four grandchildren, twins, Ryan and Bryan Bresslin, Kerry Bresslin and Britta (Bresslin) Hooftallen; three great-grandchildren, Rylee and Jacob Hooftallen and Kaelee Bresslin; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gary Edward Bresslin, who died in 1967; three brothers, Milford I. Tangley, Avery Tingley, and Van Tingley; and a sister, Lucille Bell.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday (Oct. 8, 2004) at the Fickinger Funeral Home, Coudersport and today (Saturday) at the Austin United Methodist Church from 2 to 3 p.m. at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. John Baney, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Forest Hill Cemetery in Austin.

Members of Eulalia Chapter 148 Order of Eastern Star conducted an Eastern Star Service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Austin United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 8, Austin, Pa., 16720 or to the Austin Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 328, Austin, Pa., 16720.

Elma L. McCleary

Elma L. McCleary, 97, of Wellsboro, died Sunday (Oct. 3, 2004) in Broad Acres Nursing Home, Wellsboro.

She was born March 18, 1907, in Rocky Mountain, Ga., a daughter of Jetson A. and Josie I. Rowe Lovett. On Dec. 31, 1929, in Quincy, ILL., she married Robert H. McCleary, who died in 1963.

Mrs. McCleary was a graduate of the Fourth District Agricultural & Mechanical School, Carrolton, Ga.

She was a resident of Emporium for 47 years and was employed as a cleark in Meisel's Department Store.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Emporium where she served on numerous committees.

She is survived by two sons, Robert L. McCleary of Glenmore and Jetson R. McCleary of Canandaigua, N.Y.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sue Woodward of Clayton, Del., and Paula Campbell of Haddonfield, N.J.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters.

Visitation was held on Friday (Oct. 8, 2004) with funeral services immediately following at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Blowers of the Community Chapel Church of Wellsboro, officiating. Burial will follow in Newton Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Extended Care Foundation, Alzheimer's Fund, C/O Broad Acres, 1883 Shumway Hill Road, Wellsboro, PA 16901.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Edward M. Barnett Funeral Home.

Frank W. Harmon

Frank W. Harmon, 88, died Tuesday (Oct. 5, 2004) at the Highland HealthCare Center in Wellsville, N.Y.

Born Sept. 8, 1916, in Reynoldsville, he was a son of William John and Gertrude Alice Webb Harmon.

Mr. Harmon was employed as a truck driver for many years for Ohio Transport. He later worked as a supervisor for the Buffalo Division of Ameron Corrosion Control.

Surviving are two sons, Marshall Harmon of Lawrenceville and Frank Harmon of Port Allegany; three daughters, Priscilla Watson of Austin, Catherine Hanchett of Coudersport and Marcella Harmon of Lock haven; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Harmon of Reynoldsville; two sisters, Gertrude Bulisco of New Castle and Mary Nicholson of Reynoldsville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and three sisters.

There will be no visitation or service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Rathbone Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hebron Center Christian School, 1149 Route 44 North, Coudersport, Pa., 16915.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fickinger Funeral Home.

Marie A. Gartner

Marie A. Gartner, 91, formerly of 15 S. Cherry Street, died Friday (Oct. 1, 2004) in Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, following a lengthy illness.

Born Oct. 25, 1912, in Nancen, she was the daughter of Philip and Christina Antonelli Scutella. In 1942, she married Stanley J. Gartner, who died Dec. 21, 1984.

Mrs. Gartner was a graduate of Kane High School and had lived in Emporium for 55 years. She was a homemaker and an artist and was a member of St. Marks Church and Elk County Council of the Arts.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandra (Tom) Shields of Emporium and Dona Zidar (James) of Norcross, Ga.; two grandchildren, Anastasia Shields of Cherry Hill, N.J. and Michael Zidar of Norcross, Ga.; four sisters, Margaret Severence of Ridgway, Rosemary Bloomquist of Frewsburg, N.Y., Eleanor Ayenalli of Kane and Joan Scutella of Sergeant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday (Oct. 4, 2004) at St. Mark's Church, with the Rev. Paul Siebert, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mark's Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Cameron County Arts.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Edward M. Barnett Funeral Home.

Nancy J. Housler

Nancy J. Housler, 66, of Rich Valley Road, Emporium, died Tuesday, August 24, 2004 in Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys.

Born March 28, 1938 in Port Allegany, she was the daughter of Arthur and Eloise Logue Miller.

On September 20, 1956 in Williamsport, she married Raymond C. Housler who died February 27, 1995.

Mrs. Housler attended Cameron County High School until her Junior year but graduated from Williamsport High School in 1956.

She was employed by Keystone Automatic Technology in Emporium from 1978 until 1983. In 1984 she and her husband established RaCoh Products, Inc. in Emporium, a company which specializes in the machining and finishing of powdered metal parts, where she was currently president.

Mrs. Housler was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emporium where she served on Administrative Council, the Finance Committee, staff Pastor Parish member, and member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member and Past Worthy Matron of Emporium Chapter 101 of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of Gold Wing Road Riders Association, participant and sponsor of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life for six years. and was a former member of the Emporium Jaycees.

Survivors include: one son, Raymond A. Housler of Emporium; one daughter, Mrs. Mark (Susan) Anthony also of Emporium; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and also nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Ray, Mrs. Housler was predeceased by her parents.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, August 26, in the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edwin McElroy, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Emporium.

An Eastern Star Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Funeral Home.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Cyril W. Moore

Cyril W. Moore, 68, of 3884 Rich Valley Road, Emporium, died Saturday (Aug. 21, 2004) at his residence after a lengthy illness.

Born Nov. 30, 1935, in Emporium, he was the son of Dorman and Margaret Swoyer Moore Sr. On June 1, 1958 in Port Allegany, he married the former JoAnne Winterquist, who survives.

Mr. Moore graduated from Cameron County High School. He was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver in the construction industry for 40 years. He also served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one sister, Grace LaBrozzi of Emporium; two brothers, Dorman "Rip" Moore Jr. and Robert Moore Sr., both of Emporium and one great niece, Cheyenne Rutz, who resides with Mr. Moore, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitations were held Tuesday (Aug. 24, 2004) at the Edward M. Barnett Funeral Home, Inc. at which time funeral and committal services will be held a the funeral home with the Rev. Edwin McElroy, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Rich Valley Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Community Nurses of Elk and Cameron Counties or a charity of donor's choice.

Evan Boden

Evan H. Boden, 85, of Meadow Road, died Sunday (Aug. 22, 2004) in Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys.

Born July 12, 1919 in Collingswood, New Jersey, he was the son of Colin C. and Sara Evans Boden.

On Oct. 6, 1943 in Elimsport, he married Beverly Anne Pauling who died March 23, 2002.

Mr. Boden was a graduate of Montoursville High School. In 1949 he graduated from Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters degree in Physics.

He was a WWII Navy veteran and worked on the torpedo project that became instrumental in destroying much of Hitler's submarine fleet.

From 1942 to 1949 he worked for Sylvania, served in the Navy, was married, became a father, came back to Emporium and Sylvania, and eventually relocated to Lewisburg to attend Bucknell where he was employed as a Physics teacher from 1949 to 1951.

In June of 1951 Mr. boden returned to Emporium and Sylvania where he was assigned to the Advanced Applications Lab of Commercial Engineering. In 1968 he and a partner formed Tau Electronic Products, Inc. in Emporium where he remained until 1974.

From 1974 to 1980 he taught physics and mathematics at Penn State DuBois and then operated a business of industrial photography called Cameron Technologies. In 1980 he was retained by Semiconductor Specialists Corp. of Paramus, NJ to set up a plant in this area and after establishing a successful operation in Kane, he retired in 1984.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Emporium where he was a licensed lay minister as well as deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent.

Mr. Boden was a member of the Cameron County Amateur Radio Club, a lifetime member of the Cameron County Historical Society, was a member and past Master of Emporium Lodge 382 F&AM;, past High Priest of Emporium Chapter 227 RAM, and from 1964 to 1974 served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 33rd district of the Grand Lodge of PA. He was a pilot and past member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the Civil Air Patrol.

Survivors include: two sons, Gary E. Boden of Emporium and Eugene P. Boden of Scotia, NY; one daughter, Mrs Clinton (Barbara) Chamberlin of Mountain Top; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and also nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Colin C. Boden and Milton Boden.

Friends were received Tuesday (Aug. 24, 2004) in the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home.

Funeral and Committal Services were held Wednesday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Horning of Shinglehouse, officiating.

Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Emporium.

A Masonic Lodge Service was held at the lodge Tuesday and will be followed by a Memorial Service in the Funeral Home.

Military Honors were accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church.
