Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

James Doud

James LeRoy Doud, 63, of 79 Trailer Court Drive, died Monday, (April 24, 2006) at his residence, following a lengthy illness.

Born Aug. 15, 1943 in St. Marys, he was a son of Warren and Alma Zeaman Doud. On Dec. 16, 1989 in Galeton, he married Mary Catherine Wilson, who survives. Mr. Doud was a graduate of Cameron County High School Class of 1961. He served with the U.S. Navy for eight years, from 1961 to 1969. He was employed in the maintenance division of Sizerville State Park for 27 years.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, where he served as past governor, American Legion Post #0128, and was a former Little League coach.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Rhonda (Norman) Reed and Rita (Bruce) Stuckey, both of Emporium; three stepdaughters, Becky (Garth) Clark of Coudersport, and Jen (Shane) Lyon and Molly (Ken) Cowley, both of Emporium; two sons, Craig (Kelly) Doud of Emporium and Glenn (Kari) Doud of Kenosha, Wisconsin; 22 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a brother, Phil Doud of Emporium.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Les Doud.

Friends were received Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. in the Edward M. Barnett Funeral, PC, where funeral services were held Thursday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dwight Simpson, pastor of the Faith Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Newton Cemetery, where military honors were accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.

Memorials may be made to the Community Nurses of Elk and Cameron Counties or to Mooseheart.

Pearl L. Miller

Pearl L. Miller, 83, of Sizerville Road, died Saturday, (April 22, 2006) in Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys.

Born April 8, 1923, in Sykesville, she was a daughter of Joseph and Margaret LaBorde Smith. On July 20, 1947, in Sykesville, she married Claude L. Miller, who died Jan. 6, 1992.

A resident of Emporium for 60 years, Mrs. Miller was employed by GTE Sylvania in Emporium from 1946 to 1953, and was later employed by Kmar Mini Meals, also in Emporium.

Mrs. Miller was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Emporium, where she was also a member of the Lydia Circle.

Survivors include one son, Larry L. Miller of Ridgway; one daughter, Debra A. Leavitt of St. Marys; Three grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Gray of DuBois; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Funeral services were held at the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home. The Rev. Brad Young, associated with the St. Mary's Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, officiated. Burial was in Gilmore Cemetery, Grove Township.

Memorials may be made to the Elk Haven Activity Fund.

J. Francis Brunner

J. Francis Brunner, 58, of 50 Lang Maid Lane, Bradford Manor, Bradford, died early Sunday morning (April 23, 2006) at Bradford Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Born May 11, 1947, in St. Marys, he was a son of Theodore and Cecelia O'Malley Brunner, who preceded him in Death.

He resided in St. Marys until 1976, and then moved to Emporium, where he lived until 1997. He also lived with his sister, Mary Kerner, in Olean, N.Y., eventually moving into the Bradford Manor due to illness.

Mr. Brunner was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School and was a retired employee of Elk Regional Health Center, retiring in 1997 after 29 years of service.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the St. Mary's Church in St. Marys and St. Mark's Church in Emporium.

Surviving are a sister, Mary Kerner of Olean; two brothers, Peter Brunner of Sheffield and Edward Brunner of Natchez, Miss.; three nephews; one niece; and several grandnieces.

Visitation was Thursday at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon in St. Mary's Church. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church Memorial Fund, 144 Church St., St. Mary's, PA 15857.

Evelyn Darrin

Evelyn M. Darrin, 88, a guest at Jefferson Manor in Brookville died Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Jefferson Manor. She was a former resident of South Renovo.

Born September 17, 1917 in Emporium, she was the daughter of Arthur J. and Lena McManus Kautz.

On April 21, 1941, she married Chester N. Darrin in Baltimore, MD. Mr. Darrin survives in Brookville.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Renovo and the Order of The Eastern Star.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons; William W. Darrin of Meadville and Roy E. Darrin (wife Melanie) of Brookville; four daughters; Lennea R. Darrin of Brookville, Mrs. Linda M. (husband Rocco) Sunderman Tonzo of Brookville, Evelyn J. McGowan (husband Jim) of Renovo and Suanne L. Parks (husband Jim) of Williamsport; nine grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren and two greatgreat grandchildren.

She is also survived by one brother, Arthur (Bub) Kautz of Emporium.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Smith and one brother, George Kautz.

Services were held Tuesday, (April 11, 2006). The Rev. James Wooster officiated. Burial was in North Bend.

Mrs. Helen R. Zendt Sperry

Mrs. Helen R. Zendt Sperry, 96, of Doylestown, died Wednesday in the Pine Run Health Center, Doylestown. She was the widow of Albert Sperry and the Rev. A. Randall Zendt.

She taught Latin in the Lehighton High School for several years, and later was an executive secretary in Manhattan, N.Y., for 20 years before retiring in 1965.

Born in Flicksville, she was a daughter of the late Eli and Carri (Farrow) Reimer.

She was a 1922 graduate of Ursinus College, Collegeville.

The deceased was affiliated with several United Church of Christ congregations.

Surviving are a stepson, Fred Sperry of Secane, Delaware County; a brother, George E. of Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County; a niece and a nephew.

Mrs. Francis Andrews

Mrs. Alma Dorthea Andrews, 60, of Raiford R.1, Fla., formerly of Jacksonville, Fla., died Thursday in her home. She was the wife of Francis Andrews.

Born in Walnutport, she was a Clinique consultant at Gayfers, Jacksonville, until retiring due to ill health.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son Keith of Raiford; two daughters, Karen McCallson of Jacksonville and Kathy of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Earl Hoffmann of Walnutport and Ernest Hoffmann of Jacksonville; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Russell R.Rehrig Sr.

Mrs. Irene G. Rehrig, 65, of 700 Union St., Allentown, formerly of 711 E. Green St., Allentown, died Wednesday in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of Russell R. Rehrig Sr. They observed their 45th wedding anniversary in April.

She worked for A & R Janitorial Services at the former Allentown plant of A.T. & T. before retiring, and previously has been a presser for the former Phoenix Clothes, Allentown, for 15 years.

Born in Camden, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Lansing W. and Martha H. (Collins) Cowley.

She was a member of the Allentown Mennonite Church and a former member of the Calvary Temple, Allentown.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Russell R. Jr. of Northampton and Gabe E. of Tamaqua; two daughters, Rosalinda, wife of John Schaller of Spring Lake, N.C., and Martha, wife of David Thorne of Franklinville, N.Y.; two brothers, Byron H. pf Gloucester, N.J., and Jerry J. of Medford, N.J.; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Bitler of Laurel Springs, N.J., Marjorie, wife of Howard Batchlor of Lindenwold, N.J., and Rosemarie, wife of Peter Fioravanti of Philadelphia; and 11 grandchildren.

Rev. Dr. Richard E. Owens

The Rev. Dr. Richard E. Owens, 94, of S. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, one of the most senior ministers of the Primitive Methodist Church Conference of the United States in age and service, died Thursday after becoming ill at his home. He was the husband of Margaret J. (Williams) Owens.

He was ordained as a minister in the Primitive Methodist Church in 1929 and served churches in Suterville and Gratztown before moving into northeastern Pennsylvania. He served churches in St. Clair, Schuylkill County, and several in Luzerne County, including St. John's in Hazleton. He preached and served churches until retiring in 1995.

Surviving in addition to his widow are two daughters, Eleanor R. Bisanzio of Trenton, N.J., and Grace E. Brockman of Kettering, Ohio; and grandchildren.

Mrs. Catherine York

Mrs. Catherine York, 75, of Philadelphia and Brigantine, N.J., died Monday. She was the widow of Paul York.

She worked for many years as a clerk for the U.S. Army at The Frankford Arsenal, Philadelphia.

Born in Shenandoah, she was a daughter of the late George and Katherine (Brennan) Brobst.

She was a 50-year member of the Queen of the Universe S.F.O. group and was also involved with the Obaltes of St. Francis.

Surviving are cousins.

The Fox Funeral Home, 7026 Castor Ave., Philadelphia, is in charge of arrangements.

Lewis S. Holtzer

Lewis S. Holtzer, 79, of 304 Biddle St., Tamaqua, died Thursday at his home. He was the husband of the late Faie C. (Chisnell) Holtzer.

Born in Port Carbon, he was a son of the late William J. and Laura M. (Cooper) Holtzer.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He worked as a brakeman and conductor for the Reading Railroad.

He was a member of Trinity UCC Church of Tamauqa, and was a graduate of the former Port Carbon High School.

Surviving is a sister, LaVerne, wife of George Williams of Reading, Ca.

He was preceded in death by a brother Albert.

The E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Baldwin

Mary Catherine Baldwin, 100, formerly of Friendly Gardens on Cameron Road and the Grove House, died Tuesday (Sept. 26, 2006) in Sacred Heart Medical Center, Eugene, Oregon.

Born July 8, 1906 in Farnworth, Lancashire, England, she was the daughter of William and Catherine Clarke Moffitt. On Sept. 18, 1948 in Emporium she married Arthur V. Baldwin, who died Oct. 6, 2005.

A resident of Emporium since 1948, Mrs. Baldwin was employed as a kindergarten teacher from 1957-1962. She was a member of St. Mark Church and a former member of the Emporium Garden Club, the Lookout Club, and the Cameron County Concerned Citizens.

She is survived by one son, David Baldwin of Eugene, OR; and also nieces and nephews in Canada.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Baldwin was preceded in death by one brother, William Moffitt in 1985 and one sister, Kathleen (Kay) Moffitt in 1991.

Friends will be received Sunday (Oct. 15), from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Coppersmith- Condon Funeral Home, at which time funeral and committal services will be held with the Rev. Paul Siebert, Pastor of St. Mark Church, officiating. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Cameron County Ambulance Service, 1284 Sizerville Rd., Emporium PA. 15834.

Mrs. Leona E. Kulhavy

Mrs. Leona E. Kulhavy, 83, of 318 W. Snyder Ave., Lansford, died Tuesday in the Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale. She was the widow of Frank V. Kulhavy.

Prior to retiring, she had been employed by the former Purling Mills, Tamaqua.

Born in the Germantown section of East Mauch Chunk, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Mirvaj) Pastor.

She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Lansford.

A 1931 graduate of the former East Mauch Chunk High School, she also graduated from business school.

Surviving are a son Luke of Lansford; two daughters, Barbara A., wife of Thomas A. William Sr. of Lansford, and Jean, wife of Kenny Hill of Tamaqua R.2; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a brother John; three stepbrothers, Joseph, Michael and Franklin Pastor; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Loefflad; and three stepsisters, Mrs. Julie Leisiko, Kathryn Pastor and Mrs. Sophie Resetar.

The Holmes-Griffiths Funeral Home, 200 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, is in charge of the arrangements.
