Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Earl F. Zeigler

Earl F. Zeigler, 78, of Orwigsburg, formerly of Andreas R.1, died Tuesday in the Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic, where he was a patient since Sept. 15. He was the husband of Edna (Reber) Zeigler and the late Beatrice (Hartung) Zeigler, who died in 1972. He and his second wife observed their 15th wedding anniversary last January.

He was a truck driver for the Marvin Leiby Trucking Company, Andreas R.1, for 25 years before retiring in 1984.

Born in West Penn Township, he was a son of the late Irvin and Rosa (Winter) Zeigler.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Zeigler was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Gen. George F. Patton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5069, New Ringgold R.1.

Zeigler was a member of the West Penn Rod and Gun Club, Clamtown; the East Penn Sporting Club, Lehighton; and the Summit Station Fire Company.

Surviving in addition to his widow are three daughters, Joyce E., wife of Robert Knepper of Summit Hill, Doris E., wife of Lamar Leiby of New Ringgold R.2, and Barbara E., wife of Robert Stegmeier of Tamaqua R.3; two sons, Larry E. of Andreas R.1 and Ronald W. of Tamaqua R.3; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Miller, who died in 1987.

The Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, Rt. 309, Snyders, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Myrtle M. Glose

Mrs. Myrtle M. Glose, 84, of 1432 Catasauqua Road, Bethlehem, formerly of 859 N. Hoffert St., Bethlehem, died Tuesday in ManorCare Health Services, Bethlehem. She was the widow of Albert J. Glose, who died in 1995.

She was a presser for the former Electric Laundry, Bethlehem, for 34 years before retiring in 1978.

Born in Pottstown, he was a son of the late Ralph and Carrie (Bergey) Moyer.

He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Bethlehem.

Surviving are two sons, Rodney E. of Danielsville and Albert J. of St. Charles, Mo.; three daughters, Joan Sterner of Bethlehem, Lynn, wife of Ronald Schaffer of Orangeville, Columbia County, and Donna, wife of David Dunker of Slatedale; a brother Merrill of Easton; a sister, Anna Guth of Bethlehem; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter Karen.

Mrs. Joseph J. Zahora

Mrs. Ann Marie (Jones) Zahora, 66, of Cold Spring, N.J., and Sarasota, Fla., died Monday in her New Jersey home. She was the wife of Joseph J. Zahora.

Born in Lansford, she resided in the Cape May, N.J., area for 44 years and was the director of the Division on Aging for Cape May County in Rio Grande, N.J.

She was named outstanding graduate of the Class of 1952 of Penn State University and a was a member of its Alumni Association, past president of the P.S.A.A. of South Florida, the Evening Department of the Women's Club, Corinthian Yacht Club of Cape May, and the Delta Zeta Sorority of Penn State.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Joseph D. of Roosevelt, N.J., Gary R. of Dallas, Tex., and Gregory of Pottstown; two daughters, Joanne C. Weyand of Cape May Courthouse, N.J., and Sallie Rousseau of Villas, N.J.; a sister, Eleanor Boyle of Lehighton; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Thursday in North Cape May, N.J.

Charles Casamo

Charles C. Casamo, 90, of 476 41st Avenue, St. Pete Beach, Fla. and a summer resident of Blowing Rock, NC died Saturday (Sept. 29, 2006) at Blowing Rock Hospital.

Born as Rosario, but known as Charles Carl Casamo, he was the first born son of his parents who came to America at the turn of the century. His father Anthony came from Sicily and his mother Hilda from Norway.

Mr. Casamo was born Oct. 15, 1915 in New York City. He would become one of 43 first cousins in his family, including those in Europe. At a young age he became a guiding light to the siblings who followed him, William, John, Helen Marie, Anthony and Gloria. He was a sterling example of a kind and gentle man who helped others continually throughout his life.

He volunteered for the American Red Cross during the war years and had served in many social and religious organizations throughout his life, including the Masonic Temple. He was a member of the Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church in Blowing Rock and the Passe- A-Grille Community Church in St. Pete Beach, Fla. In recent years he had been a financial consultant for senior citizens, assisting them with taxes.

Educated as a ceramic engineer from Alfred University he was scouted by the Sylvania Electric Company as a scholarship student with honors. He remained working for Sylvania throughout his professional career until retirement in 1973. Throughout the years of World War II, he did defense work for Sylvania.

He was married to Beulah Marie Moore of Emporium for over sixty years. She is well known as "Bea." They lived in Emporium for more than thirty years. She survives and is now a resident of St. Petersburg Beach, Fla.

They have one daughter, Carol Marie Bonarigo and husband, Dr. Ben Bonarigo of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; two sons, Robert Carl Casamo and wife Mary Ann of Austin and Richard Charles Casamo of St. Pete Beach, Fla. They have three granddaughters, Gina Bonarigo of Tampa; Lisa Cupelli of Hernando and Kelsey Casamo of Seminole; two grandsons, Anthony Casamo of Nashville and Charles Daniel Casamo of Seminole; one greatgranddaughter, Sabrina Cupelli of Hernando, Fla.; two step granddaughters, Patti Poulopoulos and Lori Heggenstaller; two step grandsons, Marc and Britt Bonarigo. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

His brother William also survives, with his wife Eileen in Alexandria, VA., and his sister Gloria Casamo Mabie and her husband Barrie of Scarsdale, NY. He also is survived by a sister-in-law, Angelina Casamo of Clearwater, Fla. and Eveline Casamo of CA.

A memorial service for Mr. Charles Casamo was conducted Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at Rumple Memorial

Presbyterian Church in Blowing Rock. Officiating was Pastor Larry Lyon. A second memorial service will be conducted at the Passe-A-Grill Church, St. Petersburg Beach, Fla. That date will later be announced. Interment will be in the Pass-A-Grill Columbarium in St. Pete Beach, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church, 121 Main Street, Blowing Rock NC, 28605.

Joseph Noto

Joseph P. Noto, 80, 308 E. Third St., Emporium, died at his residence Sunday afternoon.

He was born March 25, 1926 in Emporium, a son of the late Onofrio and Angeline Baldo Noto. He married Donna Moffitt Noto, who survives.

He was married over 45 years. He graduated from Emporium High School and from DuBois Business College where he received a accounting degree. He retired from Sylvania where he worked for many years in the accounting department. He served, in Italy as a Technical Sgt., with the US Army during WWII. He was a member of the St. Mark Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years.

He was a member of the VFW Miller-Raffaele Post 6221, where he was a member over 58 years and also a member of the Olkosky-Jessop Post 194, Emporium.

In addition to Donna Moffitt Noto, surviving are his three sons, Jason P. Noto of Erie; Michael Blinzlar of Ohio; Mike Raffaele of Emporium; four grandchildren, Joseph, Mikayla, Anthony and Olivia; one sister, Pauline O'Hern of Emporium; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Noto was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Susie DeMark.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the St. Mark Catholic Church. A Military Service was accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.

Burial was in the St. Mark Catholic Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association.

Harold Gates

Harold Justin Gates, 88, of Roanoke, VA died Saturday, (Sept. 23, 2006) at Raleigh Court Nursing Home.

He was born in Sizerville on De. 27, 1917. He had lived in Roanoke the past 44 years and was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Jane Victory Gates.

He is survived by sons George Gates (Rita) of East Williamson, NY, Orville Gates of Roanoke, VA; daughters Arneata Cope of Crawfordsville, IN and Betty Gates of Coudersport; eight grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren one greatgreat grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Oakey's North Chapel on Sept. 28, with interment in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke.

Violet Minard

Violet D. Minard, 91, of South Wood Street, Emporium, died Tuesday, June 13, in the Guy and Mary Felt Manor, Emporium. Born January 8, 1915 in Falconer, NY, she was the daughter of Jacob and Grace Dougherty Bailey. On Aug. 29, 1936, in Olean, NY she married Donald Minard, who died in April of 1967.

A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Minard was employed by GTE Sylvania in Emporium in the Grid Department and retired Jan. 25, 1974. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Emporium and Sylvania's Quarter Century Club.

She is survived by one son; Gerald (Mick) Murrary of Holly Hill, Fl.; one brother; Carl Bailey of Emporium; two sisters, Daisy Haring of Rochester, NY and Lois Rader of Emporium; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Minard was predeceased by one brother, Junior Bailey; and four sisters, Edith Foster, Vivian Carpenter, Bette Housler and Ruby Gropp.

Funeral Services will be held today (Saturday, June 24, 2006) at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Emporium, with the Rev. R. Scott Melott, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Emporium.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Emporium or the Cameron County Ambulance Service.

Gerald W. Cobb

Gerald W. Cobb, 52, of Warren, died Friday (June 16, 2006) at his residence.

Mr. Cobb was born June 4, 1954, in Wellsville, N.Y., a son of Ella Leffler Cobb of Eldred and Fred Cobb, who preceded him in death. On July 29, 2005, he married Carol Myers, who survives.

He was raised in Eldred and was a graduate of Otto-Eldred High School in Duke Center. He attended the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and graduated from Edinboro University in Erie as a pharmacy technician. He had been a Warren resident for the past four or five years, having spent some time in Flordia.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Carol Cobb of Warren, two brothers; Thomas Cobb of Warren and Daniel Cobb of Emporium, three sisters; Rosemary Jeffords of Eldred, Roberta Welch of Dunkirk, N.Y., and Lisa Fay Terry of Washington, D.C., three stepchildren; Lori Work of Warren, Tonya Kirsch of Sheffield and Curt Armstrong of Warren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service was held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday (June 20) at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Hone Inc., Warren, where the Rev. Alan Dean, pastor of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, officiated.

Memorials may be made to the family in care of the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc., 1003 Penna. Ave. East, Warren, Pa. 16365.

Mrs. Dorothy E. Burkett

Mrs. Dorothy E. Burkett, 88, of Brodheadsville, died Tuesday in the Stroud Manor, East Stroudsburg. She was the widow of Delbert A. Burkett.

She was a sewing machine operator for LaMar Fashions, Sciota, for 25 years before retiring in 1977.

Born in Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, she was a daughter of the late John B. and Laura (Richards) Coulter.

She was a member of Zion United Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

Surviving are three sons, Robert of Stroudsburg, Richard of Wind Gap and the Rev. Harold of North Wales; a daughter, Joan Ward of Brodheadsville; two brothers, Harry R. of Stroudsburg and David in Florida; two sisters, Betty Jane Mauk in Washington State and Helen Thomas in Florida; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter and nieces and nephews.

The Kresge Funeral Home, Rt. 209, Brodheadsville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Willard C. Strohl Sr.

Willard C. "Billy" Strohl Sr., 64, of 317 Prospect St., Weissport, died Wednesday in the Palmerton Hospital. He was the husband of the late Gloria A. (Heiney) Strohl.

He was a blast furnace operator for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation for 38 years before retiring in 1992.

Born in Lehighton, he was a son of the late Robert and Sally A. (Frable) Strohl.

He was a member of the Beaver Run Rod and Gun Club, Lehighton, and the East Penn Sporting Club, East Penn Township.

Surviving are four daughters, Bonnie, wife of John Halada of Kunkletown, Sharon and Mrs. Brenda Strohl, both of Lansford, and Donna of Nesquehoning; a son Willard of Kunkletown; a sister Perma, wife of Paul Berger of Lehighton; four brothers, Sterling and Rodney, both of Lehighton, Leon of Bowmanstown and Paul of Palmerton; eight grandchildren and a great-grandson.

He was also preceded in death by a brother Delano.

The Thomas K. Thomas Funeral Home, 145 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, is in charge of the arrangements.

Morris B. Reppert

Morris B. Reppert, 84, of 5748 Dayton St., Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Hamburg and Emmaus, died Wednesday in the Heritage Park Nursing Home, Dade City, Fla. He was the husband of Esther L. (Kline) Reppert. They observed their 61st wedding anniversary in April.

He was a machinist for Superior Combustion, Emmaus, and the former Alburtis Machine before retiring.

Born in West Leesport, Berks County, he was a son of the late Milton O. and Kate (Rothermel) Reppert.

He was a member of the Astronomy Club of Allentown.

Among his survivors is a daughter, Esther Miller of New Tripoli.

C. Marshall Reese Sr.

C. Marshall Reese Sr., 84, of Buck Hill Falls, Barrett Township, died Tuesday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Helen (Miller) Reese.

He worked for the Buck Hill Falls Company for 52 years before retiring.

Born in Honesdale, Wayne County, he was a son of the late Frederick S. and Clara (Price) Reese.

He was a founder and first chief of the Barrett Township Volunteer Fire Company; founder and first president of the Barrett Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Barrett Recreation Association; and an original member of the Barrett Township Planning and Zoning Board.

Reese was Civil Defense director of Barrett Township for more than 25 years, directing rescue and recovery efforts during and after the flood of 1955. He was a forest fire warden in the township and received a 30-year certificate from the Pennsylvania Department of Forests and Waters.

A member of the Monroe County Civil Defense Council for 15 years, he was the county's Civil Defense director for three years. At the request of the county commissioners, he served as acting director during the flood emergency of 1972.

Reese was a member of the Monroe County Planning and Zoning Commission, having served as its chairman for five years. He previously served as chairman of the commission's Route 209 watchdog committee.

He served one term each on the county's Housing Authority and Park Commission and was a member of the board of view panel for the county court.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter, Marliyn Reese Wescott of Winter Springs, Fla.; three sons, Charles M. Jr. of Pipersville, David of Pocono Farms and Robert of Houston, Tex.; and seven grandchildren.
