Angeline Arcari

Angeline "Angie" Arcari, 70, of 44 W. Ridge St., Summit Hill, died Wednesday in her home.

She worked for Boenning and Scattergood Securities, Lansford, for many years before retiring.

Born in Summit Hill, she was a daughter of the late John and Angeline (Nataline) Arcari.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill.

Surviving are three sisters, Mary Kubica of Lansford, Christine Scope in Tennessee and Rose, wife of Bernard Imrisek of Montoursville, Lycoming County; and ieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother Nick and a sister Rosina.

The Thomas J. Parambo Funeral Home, 54 W. Fell St., Summit Hill, is in charge of the arrangements.

John S. Mikulsky

John S. "Vince" Mikulsky, 82, of 45 S. Walnut St., Lansford, died Wednesday in the St. Luke Hospital, Fountain Hill, Bethlehem. He was the husband of the late Catherine (Kielbasa) Mikulsky.

He worked for the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company, Lansford, before retiring.

Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late John and Sophie (Bronik) Mikulsky.

He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Lansford.

Surviving are a son, John D. of Pittsford, N.Y.; two daughters, Mary Ann, wife of Raymond Boyer of Hometown, and Florence, wife of Ronald Weiss of Coatesville, Chester County; a brother Walter of Lansford; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother Stanley "Tyka, " and three sisters, Mary Ann, Valerie Karnish and Sophie Kurtsick.

The Skrabak-Parambo Funeral Home, 210 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, is in charge of the arrangements.

Anthony J. Mattos Jr.

Anthony J. Mattos Jr., 66, of Center Valley, died Monday in his home.

He was a senior engineer for A.T. & T., Allentown, where he was employed for 31 years.

Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Antonio J. Sr. and Nellie (Poltorak) Mattos, and a stepson of Aulinda (Amorium) Mattos of Bethlehem.

The deceased was a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, where he was a member of the Neuman Club and the Society of Automotive Engineers.

He was an Army Corps of Engineers veteran, having served as a first lieutenant.

Surviving in addition to his stepmother are two sons, Anthony S. of Pleasanton, Calif., and Timothy F. of Martinez, Calif.; two daughters, Holly of Allentown and Karen Keissler of Center Valley; five brothers, Frank of Shiremanstown, Cumberland County, Arthur of New Tripoli, Joseph of Hellertown, Thomas of Bloomfield, Colo., and John of Bethlehem; a stepsister, Deolinda Emery of Bethlehem; and a grandson.

Barbara M. Masiko

Barbara M. Masiko, 63, of Coplay, was pronounced dead Wednesday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, following a headon crash in South Whitehall Township.

She was a clerk at the Lehigh County Courthouse Assessment Office for the past 20 years.

Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of Josephine M. (Urffer) Boyd of Allentown and the late Kermit H. Boyd Sr.

The deceased was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church, Allentown, where she sang in the choir for many years, taught third and fourth grade Sunday school, was a staff volunteer for the nursery department, and worked with the Drama and Music Ministry.

Surviving in addition to her mother are a son, Michael J. of New Tripoli; a daughter, Kathleen A. of Houston, Tex.; a brother, Kermit H. Jr. of Wescosville; and four grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Mark J.

Mrs. Margaret R. Fretz

Mrs. Margaret R. Fretz, 73, of Freemansburg Ave., Palmer Township, died Thursday in ManorCare Health Services, Palmer Township. She was the widow of Elmer Fretz.

She was employed by Magnetic Windings, Palmer Township, during World War II.

Born in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Anna (Keappel) Snyder.

She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Palmer Township.

Surviving are two sons, Bruce W. of Palmer Township and Timothy L. of New Tripoli; a brother, Charles K. of Wilson; and four grandchildren.

Thomas E. Downey

Thomas E. "Bumper" Downey of 6 N. Line St., Girardville, died Wednesday in his home. He was the husband of the late Helen Ann (Brennan) who died in 1960.

He was last employed by the former Atlas Powder Company, Reynolds.

Born in Jacksons, he was a son of the late Thomas and Kathryn (Knarr) Downey.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Girardville.

Downey was a graduate of the former Mahanoy Township High School and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Girardville, where he was a past grand knight.

He was a borough councilman for many years and a member of the Good Time Club and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Girardville.

Surviving are a son, Thomas T. of Girardville; a daughter, Mary Catherine, at home; a brother Charles of Upper Darby; a sister, Kathryn Early of Mahanoy City; two grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Walter Christensen

Mrs. Julia "Greta" Ganchou Christensen, 81, of 11 Soundcrest Drive, Shelton, Conn., formerly of McAdoo, died Thursday in her home following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Walter Christensen.

She was also the widow of John H. Ganchou.

Prior to retiring, she was employed by United Shoe Machinery, Shelton.

Born in Tamaqua, she was a daughter of the late Peter Sr. and Mary Postupack.

She was a member of St. Margaret and St. Mary Church, Shelton, and St. Mark Ukrainian Catholic Church, McAdoo.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, John Ganchou of Oxford, Conn., and Donald Ganchou of Woodbury, Conn.; a brother Theodore of Shelton; three sisters, Nettie Grinnan of Pointe Verda, Fla., Pauline Duncavage of Trumbull, Conn., and Mildred Noga of McAdoo; four grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Thomas A. Fedorcha

Thomas A. Fedorcha, 73, of 528 Lehigh St., Jim Thorpe, died Thursday evening in the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. He was the husband of Eleanor W. (Kline) Fedorcha.

The Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe, is in charge of the arrangements.

Dedrick services

Memorial services for Joseph L. Dedrick Jr., 76, of New Ringgold R.1, formerly of Perkasie, Pa., who died Tuesday in his home, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, in the Zion Union Stone Church, New Ringgold R.2. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

It was incorrectly indicated in previous death notices that the memorial services would be held this Saturday. The TIMES NEWS apologizes for the error.

The Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, Rt. 309, Snyders, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Anita D. Moyer

Mrs. Anita D. Moyer, 63, of 345 Willing St., Tamaqua, died Tuesday in Tamaqua. She was the widow of Benjamin J. Moyer.

She was employed by Hershey Foods of Hazleton.

Born in Tamaqua, she was a daughter of Mrs. Angelina (Morfy) Rita of Tamaqua and the late John G. Rita.

A member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, Tamaqua, Mrs. Murphy was a 1952 graduate of Tamaqua High School.

Surviving in addition to her mother are a son, Benjamin J. of Washington, D.C.; three daughters, Michele, wife of George J. Matukonis, and Benita L., both of Tamaqua, and Denise, wife of Anthony Bolinsky of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, Robert Sr. of Coaldale and John G. of Hershey; and five grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a grandson, George J. Matukonis III.

Funeral services were held Thursday from the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Jerome Church. Memorials may be sent to Pinnacle Health, 1 Norwegian Plaza, Suite 301, Pottsville, Pa. 17901.

Moyer correction: Memorial contributions in the name of Mrs. Anita Moyer, of 345 Willing St., Tamaqua, who died on Sept. 16, may be sent to the Pottsville Hospital Hospice, 420 S. Jackson St., Pottsville, 17901.

Mrs. Katherine E. Kane

Mrs. Katherine E. Kane, 80, formerly of Bethlehem, died Wednesday in Gracedale, Upper Nazareth Township. She was the widow of John J. Kane, who died in 1993.

She was a telephone operator for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation many years ago.

Born in East Mauch Chunk, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Claire (Prutzman) Kline.

Surviving are two daughters, C. Jean Barbarics of Wind Gap and Joan Kester of Egypt; and three grandchildren.

Joseph E. Barron

Joseph E. Barron, 62, of the Quakertown area, formerly of Cresco, died Wednesday in the Valley Manor Nursing Center, Coopersburg.

He was a machinist for Accu-Sort Systems, Inc., Telford, before retiring due to health reasons. Previously, he worked for Pennfield Precision Machining, Inc., Sellersville.

Born in Tamaqua, he was a son of the late William B. and Eva Mae (Gerber) Barron.

An Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a member of American Legion Post 242, Quakertown, and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Surviving are two sisters, Rebecca E. Smith of North Wales, Montgomery County, and Marie, wife of Michael Skymba of Tamaqua; and nieces and nephews.

Carl K. Mann

Carl K. Mann, 67, of 297 Long Lane, Treichlers, died Wednesday in the Palmerton Hospital. He was the husband of Eleanor C. (Yeakel) Mann. They observed their 47th wedding anniversary in October.

He was a supervisor for the former Lehigh Valley Dairies, now Beatrice Foods, before retiring in 1992 after 40 years of service. He also owned and operated Mann's Appliance Service, Treichlers, for more than 30 years.

Born in Whitehall Township, he was a son of the late Elwood C. and Pearl M. (Keller) Mann.

He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Cherryville, where he was an usher, and the Saucon Valley and Northampton Grundsow Lodge.

Surviving in addition to his widow are four sons, Allen C. of Allentown, Gary L. of Northampton, Bryan D. of Whitehall and Kevin L. of Treichlers; a brother, Charles E. of Bethlehem; two sisters, Renae A., wife of Wilson Yelles of Northampton, and Leona P., wife of Dr. C. Keith Keyser of Seattle, Wash.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

William J. Patterson Sr.

William J. Patterson Sr., 84, of 826 Jefferson Ave., Allentown, died Wednesday in his home. He was the husband of Elizabeth J. (Jansak) Patterson. They observed their 45th wedding anniversary last January.

A graduate of the University of Georgia, he was a legal adviser for the former New Jersey Zinc Company, working out of its Bethlehem office for 30 years before retiring in 1981.

Born in Savannah, Ga., he was a son of the late John A. and Lillian (Jackson) Patterson.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Allentown, where he was a former deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member.

Patterson was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a former volunteer for Meals on Wheels, where he received a certificate of appreciation in 1988 for over 300 hours of loyal and dedicated service.

Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, William J. Jr. of New York City, N.Y., and John A. of Charlotte, N.C.; three daughters, Elizabeth L. of Allentown, Nancy S., wife of Roger R. Christman of Schnecksville, and Mary Ann, wife of Charles E. Mohr of Allentown; and five grandchildren.

Clair A. Beers

Clair A. Beers, 78, of Middlecreek, Polk Township, died Tuesday in his home. He was the husband of Myrtle E. (Marsh) Beers. They had been married for 30 years.

He and his wife established the Meadowbrook Diner in Brodheadsville and operated the restaurant for 18 years before retiring. He also worked as an analyst for the former New Jersey Zinc Company, Palmerton, for 17 years, and previously had been a salesman for Electrolux Cleaners.

Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Clifford and Elsie Beers.

He was a founding member of the Middlecreek Christian Church, Kunkletown, where he was a past director and served on the board of elders. He was also an assistant director of the Middlecreek Community Cemetery, Kunkletown.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter, JoAnn Ziegenfus of Saylorsburg R.4; four sons, Raymond of Cherry Valley, Rodney of Wilkes-Barre and Rick and Rowland, both of Effort; a stepdaughter, Sandra Madsen of Palmerton; two sisters, Ethel Remmel of Weatherly and Eleanor Wisocky of Palmerton; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Rt. 209, Gilbert, is in charge of the arrangements.
