Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Edward F. Bloom

Edward F. Bloom, 67, of Albrightsville, died Sunday in his home.

He was a bookkeeper and secretary for the Mount Pocahontas Civic Association, Albrightsville.

Born in Mauch Chunk, he was a son of the late Edgar Clarence and Mary Helen (Campbell) Bloom.

He was a member of Christ Church at Lowhill United Church of Christ, New Tripoli.

Bloom was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Central Catholic High School Booster Club, Allentown.

Surviving are two brothers, Phillip R. of Allentown and John S. of Henderson, Nev.; and a sister, Rita A. Renninger of Cherryville.

Mrs. Ethel Zeiser

Mrs. Ethel Zeiser, 90, of Reeders, died Sunday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the widow of Blasius Zeiser.

She was a private duty licensed practical nurse at the Muhlenberg Hospital, Bethlehem, and a nurse at Dorney Park, Allentown, before retiring in 1976.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Leslie and Mary (Horvath) Arvey.

She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Palmerton.

Mrs. Zeiser was a volunteer at the Palmerton Hospital Nearly New Shop and a member of the hospital's Auxiliary and the Pennsylvania Nurses Association.

She was the founder and former president of the TOPS Club, Palmerton.

Surviving are a daughter, Dawn Gould of Reeders; a son Blasius of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Alice of Bethlehem and Helen of Allentown; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

C. Lamont Steedle Sr.

C. Lamont Steedle Sr., 75, of Alburtis, died Monday in his home. He was the husband of Rhea M. (Derr) Steedle. They observed their 52nd wedding anniversary this month.

He was a supervisor in the engineering department of Mack Trucks, Inc., Allentown and Macungie plants, before retiring in 1985 after 45 years of service. After retiring, he was a Mack ambassador in the public relations department.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late C. Lamont and Esther M. (Hangen) Steedle.

He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Alburtis, where he served on the building committee.

Steedle was a former member and president of the Alburtis Lions Club and a past president of the Alburtis Senior Citizens.

He was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II, having served in England.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Lamont F. of Hanover; a daughter Debra, wife of David H. Reinert of Slatington; a sister, Ruth M., wife of Charles Schlener of Allentown; and three step-granddaughters.

Dr. John Lathrop

Dr. John B. Lathrop, died at the Chester County hospital on Tuesday (Sept. 12, 2006).

Born on Sept. 5, 1934, he was the son of the late Dr. Laurence Leslie and Eunice Diehl Lathrop of Emporium.

Dr. Lathrop was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where he was a member of the Varsity Letter Club and the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was also a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine where he was a member of Psi Omega Dental Fraternity. He served a twoyear tour of duty as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Dental Corp in Argentina, New Foundland, Canada.

Dr. Lathrop served as President at all levels of the Pennsylvania Dental Association, as well as holding responsible positions in the American Dental Association. He received many accolades for his leadership. He was recently elected to Fellowship and in the Academy of general Denistry and he also received a Fellowship and the Pennsylvania Dentist of the Year Award from the Pierre Fauchard Academy. The Second District Dental Association presented him with their highest award, the Recognition Award, and the Pennsylvania Dental Association also presented him with their Recognition Award. He received the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine's Distinguished Alumnus Award, he has been featured in Who's Who in Denistry and he was recently notified that he had been selected to join an elite group as a Significant Sig as chosen by the National Fraternity of Sigma Chi.

Dr. Lathrop's other notable accomplishments were a result of his involvement with the International College of Dentists, activity spanning from 1972 to the present. He filled leadership offices from the local Pennsylvania District to the national USA Section. He served three terms as a member of the Worldwide Council and was currently serving as President of the International College of Dentists Foundation.

Dr. Lathrop was a member of the Worldwide Ministry Committee for Calvary Lutheran Church, and a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Lodge #322. He was very active in the community, Summerfield at Elverson, serving as a Director of the Stoneridge Homeowners Association, a member of the Neighborhood Watch, and Friends of the Community Center.

Brothers, Laurence and Charles, and sister, Eleanor, preceded Dr. Lathrop in death.

He is survived by Ruth, his wife of 48 years. He is also survived by two sons, John Jr. and James, his daughter-in-law, Dana, and three grandchildren, Zachary, Abby and Nicholas.

A Memorial Service was held Monday (Sept. 18), at Calvary Lutheran Church in West Chester.

Lillian Sidelinger

Lillian A. Sidelinger, 84, of Pioneer Road, died ( Sept. 15, 2006) in Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys.

Born Feb. 21, 1922 in Arraya, she was the daughter of Robert George and Alice George Coon. On June 1, 1940 in Dagus mines, she married Robert C. Sidelinger, who died June 16, 1984.

Mrs. Sidelinger was employed as a retail sales clerk by G.C. Murphy Co. in St. Marys. She is survived by: one sister, Elberta Smoker of Emporium; seven grandchildren, Tina Sidelinger Quinn of Tampa, FL, Chris Sidelinger of Cameron, Perry Sidelinger of Tampa, Justin Sidelinger of Orlando, FL, and Robert, David and Michael Sidelinger, all of BelAir, MD; and also great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, parents, and stepfather Arthur M. Coon, Mrs. Sidelinger was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Sidelinger and Clayton Sidelinger; one brother, Oran George, and one sister, Mae Buganza.

There was no visitation. Funeral and Committal Services were held. Monday (Sept. 18) in the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dwight Simpson, the pastor of Faith Baptist Church of Emporium, officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Cameron County Unit.

Earl Hockenberry

Earl B. Hockenberry, 87, Rich Valley Road, Emporium died on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.

Born Feb. 11, 1919 in Beccaria Twp., PA., a son of the later Frederick and Mabel Lightner Hockenberry.

On May 16, 1944 in Richmond, Texas, he married Evelyn Fojtik Hockenberry, who survives.

Mr. Hockenberry served with the US Army Force, as a Staff Sgt., during WWII where he was an air plane mechanic. He was stationed in Foster Field in Victoria, TX. He and Gerald Lewis founded and co-owned Lewis and Hockenberry in Rich Valley. He retired in 1978. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and after he retired he spent most of his time gardening.

In addition to Evelyn Fojtik Hockenberry, he is survived by one son: Dariel Hockenberry (Cheryl) of Emporium and two grandchildren, Scott and Laura.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Mabel Lightner Hockenberry; Step Fathers, Blythe George and Phil King and a brother. David Hockenberry.

There will be no Visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service will be held today (Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006) at 11 a.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 East Fourth Street, Emporium where the Rev. Dwight Simpson, Pastor of Faith Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in the Rich Valley Cemetery, Emporium.

Hedwig Impress

Hedwig M. Impress, 91, formerly of East Fourth Street, died Monday (July 24, 2006) in Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg, following an eight month stay at the home of her son, Gary Signor.

Born Feb. 17, 1915 in DuBois, she was a daughter of Joseph and Magdalin Deko Frano. In 1938, she married Charles Signor who died in 1941. On March 1, 1944, she married Dr. John Impress, who died in 1985.

A longtime resident of Emporium, Mrs. Impress was a parishioner of St. Mark Catholic Church in Emporium. She was also a charter member of Emporium Country Club, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Emporium Country Club.

Survivors include her son, Gary Signor of Harrisburg; a daughter, Susan Mianulli of Groton, Mass.; Five granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Joseph Frano of DuBois; two nephews; and one niece.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mark Church with Rev. Paul Siebert, pastor, as celebrant. Committal Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Eulalia Cemetery, Coudersport.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the Donor's choice.

David Lee Reed

David Lee Reed, 67, of Old North Creek Road, died Thursday (May 25, 2006) in Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys, following a short illness.

Born Jan. 16, 1939, in Renovo, he was a son of Clifford and Bernadette Blanchard Reed. On June 16, 1956, in Castle Garden Church, he married Nancy Lee Knisely, who survives.

Mr. Reed was a lifelong resident of Cameron County and attended Cameron County High School. He was employed by GKN Sinter Metals for 20 years.

He was a member of the Sinnemahoning Sportsmen's Club, Loyal Order of Moose #368, and the Sterling Run Sportsmen's Club.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Kathleen (Rick) Raspatello of Kersey and Darlene Reed of Emporium; two sons, Norman (Rhonda) Reed of Emporium and David L. Reed Jr. of Michigan; 13 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Sally Emmett of Daniels, West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends were received Saturday in the Edward M. Barnett Funeral Home, PC from 5-8 p.m., at which time funeral services were held, with the Rev. Dwight Simpson, pastor of Faith Baptist Church, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Cameron County Ambulance Service.

Robert Burkhouse

Robert Garner Burkhouse, 84, of 2641 Old West Creek Road, died Thursday (May 25, 2006) in the Guy and Mary Felt Manor, following a long illness.

Born April 7, in Pardus, he was a son of Harry and Becky Wilson Burkhouse. On Nov 5, 1944, in Toms River, N.J., he married Adeline Liuzzo, who survives.

Mr. Burkhouse had been a resident of Cameron County for 42 years. He was a graduate of Brookville High School and Penn State University. He was an industrial engineer with GTE Sylvania, retiring after 30 years of service.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1945.

He was a member of Sylvania Quarter Century Club, NRA, Emporium Masonic Lodge #382, Coudersport Consistory, Bucktail Rod and Gun Club, a Life Member of Penn State University Alumni Association and was a baseball coach for the Teener and American Legion League.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters, M. Ann Capuzello and A. Lynn Robinson, both of Bluffton, S.C., and Susan Alloe of Emporium; one son, Phil Burkhouse of Emporium; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends were received Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Edward M. Barnett Funeral Home, PC. Funeral services were held Monday at 1 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jay Hanson, Pastor, officiating. Military honors were accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.

Memorials may be made to the Guy and Mary Felt Manor.

Verda Belser

Verda A. Belser, 91, of 200 Pleasant St., formerly of Melvin Avenue and Interstate Parkway, died Monday (July 10, 2006) at The Pavilion at BRMC.

Born in Munderf on April 11, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Grant and Edith Heitzenrater Dixon.

On March 9, 1935, in Emerickville, she married Cecil E. Belser, who died Aug. 11, 1973.

She had been employed at Ott and McHenry Pharmacy for 15 years as a sales clerk. She was a member of the Hill Memorial United Methodist Church, the Faithful Sunday School Class and AARP.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Wendy (Bob) Thomson, Diane (Donald) Rounsville, Randy Belser and Karl (Toni) Belser, all of Bradford, and Jennifer (Ed) Muszala of Tucson, Ariz.; 14 great-grandchildren; 14 greatgreat grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; step sisters, Audrey Murray of Falls Creek, and Erma Tibbits of Fredericksburg, Va.; two brothers, George Dixon of Emporium, and Nelson Dixon of Jackson, Calif.; several nieces and nephews and her former daughter-in-law Bonnie Silvis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Lawrence Belser, who died Jan. 24, 1999; three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday with Rev. David Bunnell, pastor of the Hill Memorial United Methodist Church, officiating.

Committal services and burial followed in McKean Memorial Park Lafayette.

Memorials, is desired, may be made to the Hill Memorial United Methodist Church or The Pavilion at BRMC.Josephine Olivett of Mount Dora; a daughter, Bonnie Colling of Laguna Woods, Calif.; two brothers, Robert and Bernal Olivett, both of Emporium; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Community Chapel Church of God in Mount Dora.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Lake and Sumter, 12300 Lane Park Road, Tavares, Fla. 32778. An on-line guest book is available at www.hardenpauli.com.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Harden/ Pauli Funeral Home, Eustis.

Carrie Seabolt

Carrie F. Seabolt, 46, of 1019 Plank Road Hollow, died unexpectedly Friday (July 7, 2006).

She was born Aug. 22, 1959 in St. Marys, a daughter of Judith Streich Seabolt Farren of Emporium, and the late Fredrick Seabolt.

Ms. Seabolt graduated from Cameron County High School with the Class of 1977 and served with the US Army in Ft. Benning, GA.

Surviving are her mother of Emporium; a sister, Glenda of St. Marys; two brothers, Mark Seabolt of Emporium and Terry Seabolt of St. Marys; and a stepbrother, Daniel Farren of Galeton.

She was preceded in death by her father, Fredrick Seabolt; stepfather, Daniel Farren, who died Jan. 1, 2003; her son, Fredrick Pscholka, who died Aug. 25, 2001.

There will be no visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Cameron County Christian Center, East Fourth Street, today (July 15) at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Rock Pifer, officiating. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Barnett Funeral Home, Inc.
