Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Julia Faye Sevinsky

Julia Faye Sevinsky, 84, of Laurelwood Court, Emporium, died Sunday, July 30, 2006 in her home.

Born May 12, 1922 in Brockway, she was the daughter of Leslie and Anna Sheley.

On Jan. 2, 1960 in Emporium she married John R. Sevinsky who died Sept. 11, 1978.

A resident of Emporium since 1969, Mrs. Sevinsky was a graduate of Brockway High School and Penn State University. She was employed as a teacher in Shippenville, and later in Brockway. After moving to Emporium, she was employed by the Cameron County School District as a teacher's aid in the high school until she retired in 1982. Mrs. Sevinsky was a member of St. Mark Church in Emporium.

She is survived by one son, John L. Sevinsky of Shrewsbury, Mass.; three grandchildren, Renee, Aidin and Olivia Sevinsky all at home; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sevinsky was predeceased by five brothers, Mark Sheley, Harold Sheley, Clifford Sheley, Paul Sheley and Jack Sheley, and one sister, Dorothy Moore.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Marks Church with Fr. Paul Siebert, pastor, as celebrant. Burial was in St. Tobias Cemetery, Brockway. A Wake Service was held Wed. at 6:45 p.m. in the Funeral Home.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the ALS Association, Western PA-West Virginia Chapter, Landmarks Building, 100 W Station Square Dr., Suite 550, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.

John Boyer

John William Boyer, 83, of 148 Kings Highway, died Friday (July 21, 2006) at Beverly Healthcare-Hillview.

He was the son of late Stanley and Martha Boyer. He married Anne Marie Gunarich, who died Jan. 23, 1986.

Mr. Boyer was of the Methodist faith. He retired as supervisor of machine maintenance at North American Phillips with more than 40 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He had raised beagles throughout his life.

Mr. Boyer was a member of Masonic Hall, Bellwood Eagles, American Legion, Bavarian Aid Society, Unter Uns, Elks, VFW and Bellwood Beagle Club.

Surviving are a son, John T. Boyer Sr. (Lenka) of Hollidaysburg; a daughter, Judith Anne Boyer (Jack Dudley) of Charlottesville, Va.; two grandchildren: John T. Boyer II and Allison V. Boyer; and a brother, James Boyer of Emporium. A brother, Thomas, was killed in action in WWII.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday (July 23), at Stevens Memorial Chapel by Pastor Wayne Magruder. Interment was at Morningside Cemetery, Dubois.

Al Johnson

A. T. "Al" Johnson, 82, of Lick island Circle, Sinnemahoning, died at his home Tuesday (May 9, 2006).

Born Sept. 17, 1923, in Malden, MO., he was the second son of Neal R. and Altie (Scroggins) Johnson.

Mr. Johnson served in World War II in the 22nd Infantry Regiment of the 4th Division.

He fought in five major battle campaigns in the European Theater of the war and was awarded both the Silver and Bronze Stars for gallantry in battle, plus the Jubilee of Liberty medal from France.

He owned and operated the Cuyhoga Sales and Service Truck Stop in Newburgh Heights, Ohio, for many years.

It was there he met his wife, the former Barbara A. Bush of Dixonville, whom he married Nov. 9, 1963.

Mr. Johnson worked as an operating engineer in Ohio for many years before retiring and starting his own excavating company in Sinnemahoning,

Mr. Johnson served as a Grove Township supervisor and chairman of the board for several years, Grove township inspector of elections, member of the Cameron County Republican Committee and a trustee of the Sinnemahoning United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years; a daughter, Judy D. Anthony and husband Wayne Smicksburg; five sons: Alan Terry Johnson and wife Rosa, St. Leonard, MD., Wayne R. "Butch" Johnson and wife Elizabeth, Hudson, Ohio, Loren L. "Rusty" Johnson, Rodney A. Johnson and wife Tina, Greenfield, Ind., and Charles P. Johnson and wife Suzanne, Radcliff, KY.; a newphew, Jay D. Johnson, who was raised and loved as a son, and wife Brenda, Sagamore Hills, Ohio; 17 step-great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, William and Cecil; two sisters, Juanita Rosenlieb and Joyce Rose; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: R.B., Charles and Jack.

Funeral services were held Thursday (May 11) in the Sinnemahoning United Methodist Church, where the Rev. Prewitt C. Ducan officiated, Interment of the ashes will be private at a later date in Oakland Cemetery.

Ryan Leightley

Ryan S. Leightley, 27, of 24 West Sixth Street, Emporium, died Sunday (May 14, 2006) at his residence.

Born April 26, 1979 in St. Marys, he was the son of Mary Pat Leightley.

He attended Cameron County High School. He was presently employed as a laborer with Emporium Borough. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Mary Alice Rowan, Emporium; two brothers, Allen Rowan and Michael Leightley, both of Emporium; and two nieces, Abigail and Delaney Rowan of Emporium.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be celebrated later at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Edward M. Barnett Funeral Home, PC.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Blanche Carnovale

Blanche O. Roseto Carnovale, 82, of Ridgway Road, Johnsonburg died Thursday (May 11, 2006) at her home following a short illness.

Born Dec. 30, 1923, in Ridgway, she was a daughter of Prospero and Vincenza Curato Roseto, who preceded her in death. In July 1951, she married Joseph Carnovale, who survives.

Mrs. Carnovale was a housewife and also worked at Stackpole in Johnsonburg and Sylvania in Emporium.

She was a member of the Holy Rosary Church and the Johnsonburg Senior Center.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Michael Carnovale of St. Marys, Thomas Carnovale of Johnsonburg and Perry "Chip" Carnovale of Kersey; a daughter, JoAnn Bryington of Johnsonburg; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers, Bennie Roseto in New Jersey, Patsy Roseto of Lock Haven, Louis Roseto of Erie, Rudolph Roseto of Seattle, Wash., and Dino Roseto of Ridgway; and six sisters, Rose Costion of Ridgway, Nardina Piccari in North Carolina, Florence Orvash of Johnsonburg, Jane Corey of Erie, Gloria Hoffman of Ridgway and Arcelia Heilberger of St. Marys.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie, in infancy, and a sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday (May 13) at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Johnsonburg, where the Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor, was celebrant. Burial was in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Community Nurses Inc.

Anna Schweikart

Anna Lucille Schweikart, 91, of Port Allegany, died Monday (May 8, 2006) in Sena-Kean Manor, Smethport.

Born Dec. 2, 1914 in Coudersport, she was a daughter of George and Daisy Younglove Klesa. On Oct. 18, 1936, she married George Schweikart, who died Sept. 17, 1974. She was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of the Roulette High School.

She worked at Sylvania in Emporium for many years.

She is survived by a son, Donald G. Schweikart of Port Allegany; a daughter, Helen M. Main of Port Allegany; five grandsons; two granddaughters; five great-granddaughters; a sister, Grace L. Johnson of Naples, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Harold W. Schweikart; and four daughters, Marsha J. Reinard, Sharon C. Hamilton, Marjorie K. Schweikart and Janice D. Schweikart.

Funeral services were held Wednesday (May 10) at the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where the Rev. Randall Headley, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Port Allegany, officiated. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

Adolph P. Nowacki

Adolph P. Nowacki, 81, of 143 W. Fell St., Summit Hill, died Wednesday in the Hometown Nursing Home, Tamaqua R.2. He was the husband of Beryl (Summers) Lawrence Nowacki and the late Marie (Katulka) Nowacki.

He owned and operated Maria's Greenhouse, Clamtown, for 25 years until retiring.

Born in Summit Hill, he was a son of the late Michael and Sophie (Phillips) Nowacki.

He wa a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Lansford, and was a member of a Little League Association.

Surviving with his wife is a son, Edward of Newkirk, Tamaqua R.D.; a daughter, Marie, wife of Paul Barth of Clamtown; two stepsons, Trevor and William Lawrence of Summit Hill; four stepdaughters, Maryann Snyder of Allentown, Marlene Paulus of Coaldale, Theresa Reinheimer of Summit Hill and Robin Blasko of Lansford; stepbrother, Joseph O'Gurek of Summit Hill; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Bernard; four brothers, Philip, John, Joseph and Pat; and two sisters, Julia and Sophie, and a stepsister, Viola Sniscaks.

The Thomas J. Parmabo Funeral Home, 54 W. Fell St., Summit Hill, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cyril D. Rehrig

Mrs. Verna R. Rehrig, 89, of 243 S. Third St., Lehighton, died Wednesday in Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia. She was the wife of Cyril D. Rehrig. They were married 52 years in March.

A legal secretary for 50 years, she worked for Balliet & Seidel and Prutzman & Quinn law officers, before retiring in 1978 from the office of attorney William B. Quinn.

Born in Lehighton, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Alvina (Kemerer) Reichard.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Gnaden Huetten chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, both of Lehighton.

Surviving with her husband are nieces and nephews.

The Kenneth Phifer Funeral Home, Third and Alum Sts., Lehighton, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Emma E. Emerich

Mrs. Emma E. Emerich, 94, of Tamaqua R.1, died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Diane E., wife of Robert Hope, Tamaqua R.1. She was the wife of the late Francis W. Emerich, who died in 1976.

Born in Tamaqua, she was a daughter of the late Charles F. and Mary (Herring) Dunn.

She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Tamaqua.

Surviving with her daughter is a son, Don D. of Tamaqua R.1; a brother, Robert G. of New Ringgold R.1; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Francis, who died in 1989; two brothers, Edward and William; and a sister, Mary Kreiger.

The Jon M. Zizelmann Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, is in charge of arrangements.

David R. "Sparky" James

David R. "Sparky" James, 82, of Nesquehoning, died Tuesday at his residence. He was the husband of the late Ruth S. (Snellman) James, who died earlier this year.

Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late James E. and Mary (Kropp) James.

He was an administrative officer for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in Harrisburg for 27 years, retiring in 1981. Prior to that he was a coal inspector for the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Co. (LC&N) in Lansford for 14 years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lansford, where he served as a deacon and former treasurer and trustee.

He was a 32nd Degree Free and Accepted Mason with the Panther Valley Lodge No. 677.

He was a member of the Lansford Fire Company No. 1, and the Four County Fireman's Association of Hometown.

He was a 1932 graduate of Lansford High School.

Surviving is a sister, Isabel James of Lansford, and nieces and nephews.

The Trexler Funeral Home, Allentown, is in charge of arrangments.

Kenneth C. Johnson

Kenneth C. Johnson, 44, a former resident of 130 Club Road, Palmerton, died Tuesday at Weatherwood, Weatherly, the Carbon County Home for the Aged.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of Paul S. and Leocadia (Kasper) John, of Palmerton.

Surviving with his parents are three sisters, Eleanor E., wife of Sonny S. Mistretta of Palmerton, Mildred Iris of Whitehall, and Susan Johnson of New York City, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul S.

Mrs. Anna E. Kile

Mrs. Anna E. Kile, 77, of Allentown, formerly of Richlandtown, died Wednesday in her home. She was the wife of the late Samuel Kile.

She worked in the meat packing department of Lustig Meats, Quakertown, for seven years and before that she previously worked at the former Dudley Sprts, Dublin. She retired in 1994.

Born in Tamaqua, she was a daugther of the late William and anna (Neuman) Betz.

She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Allentown, and a former memberof St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Quakertown.

Surviving are two sons, Samuel N. of Weirton, W. Va., and William L., with whom she resided; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
