Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Clarence Reed

Clarence A. Reed, 87, of 6856 Route 120, died Tuesday (June 27, 2006) in Brookville Hospital following a brief illness.

Born Jan. 1, 1919, in West Creek, he was a son of Roland and Ruth Beldin Reed. On Jan. 30, 1946 in Castle Garden Wesleyan Methodist Church, he married Josephine Pearsall, who survives.

Mr. Reed was a lifelong resident of Cameron County and attended Bryan Hill and Plank Road Hollow schools. He served with the U.S. Army 175th Engineers and was involved in the North African Campaign during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was employed as a laborer and truck driver for Conrail for 39 years and nine months.

He was a Life member of Miller-Raffaele VFW Post #6221, a 23 year member of the Olkosky-Jessop American Legion Post #194, Cameron County Grange, AARP, the Moore Hill Church and a Life Member of Maintenance of Way.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are seven daughters; Sally (Bernie) Heiberger of St. Marys, Shirley (Max) Mesing of Beaver Falls, Cynthia (Tom) Sunealitus of Lakeland, FL., Darlene (Jeff) Thayer of Ansonia, CT, Rebecca Reed of Emporium, Connie (James) Olivio of Brockway, and Carol (Brian) Newton of Brockway; two sons; Daniel (Rita) reed and William C. Reed, both of Emporium; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters; Freda Tompkins of Keating Summit, Reba Palmer of Emporium, Kathy Padilla of Flordia and Janet Hedgus of New Kendington; and seven brothers; Ernest Reed of Tenn., Urban Reed of Ohio, Ermil Reed of Texas, Robert Reed in Pennsylvania, Earl Reed, Charles Reed and James Reed, all of Emporium.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Burton Reed, two sisters, Laura and Judy Reed, and one grandson, Timothy Reed.

Funeral services were held Saturday (July 1) at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dwight Simpson, pastor of the Faith Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Moore hill Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Moore Hill Church, First United Methodist Church, or the Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library.

Edward Gerbec

Edward Andrew Gerbec, 75, of Warren, died Friday (June 30, 2006) at the Veterans Hospital, Buffalo, N.Y.

Born June 9, 1931, in Kinzua, he was the son of the late Andrew and Frances K. Ulyan Gerbec.

Mr. Gerbec served in the U.S. Army Military Police during the Korean War. He had been employed by the Pennsylvania railroad as a conductor and breakman for most of his life, retiring in 1988.

He was a former member of the Clarendon VFW.

He is survived by two daughters, Valerie Werstler of Austin and Veronica Lukaschunis of Emporium; a son, Vaughn Gerbec of Emporium; two brothers, Rudy Gerbec and Andy "Chip" Gerbec of Clarendon; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., Warren, on Monday (July 3) with the Rev. James Eastman, pastor of the Abundant Life Tabernacle of Emporium, officiating. Members of the Clarendon and Sheffield VFW presented full military honors.

Burial was in the St. Callistus Cemetery, Kane.

Lea Ann McCoy

Lea Ann McCoy, 10 months, of 640 Matthews Road, Trout Run, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at her home.

Born August 25, 2005 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of William E. and Paula R. Tilburg McCoy.

Lea Ann enjoyed being snuggled, having her hair brushed and swinging in the hammock on a breezy day. She was well-loved by everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Surviving besides her parents are grandparents Todd and Eleanor McCoy, and Larry and Joan Tilburg; Uncle Tony and Aunt Lori; Cole; Aunt Tammy Tilburg; cousin Zachary Tilburg and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her grandmother, Roseann Puskar.

Family and friends may celebrate Lea Ann's life at 10 a.m. today (Saturday, July 1), in the Christian Church at Cogan Station, 5904 Lycoming Creek Road, Cogan Station.

Kenneth Neubert

Kenneth J. Neubert, 69, of 1432 Rosely Road, St. Marys, died Tuesday evening (June 20, 2006) at the Elk Regional Health Center.

He was born July 18, 1936, in St. Marys, son of the late William and Mary Wendel Neubert. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys schools. He was a retired employee of the Keystone Carbon Co. and had worked part time at City Transfer.

On May 25, 1963 in the St. James Church in Driftwood, he married Barbara Kuppelweiser, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Karen Neubert of Brookline, NH, Sharon (Mrs. Kenneth) Streich of Ridgway; a son, Michael A. Neubert at home; a grandson, Ethan Streich; a sister, Maureen (Mrs. Thomas) Newman of St. Marys; and two brothers, Raymond Neubert of St. Marys and Jerry Neubert and his wife Rose Mary of St. Marys.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Neubert Jr.

He had served in the army in Germany.

There was no visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in the Queen of the World Church, St. Marys, on Friday, (June 23) at 1 p.m., with the Rev. John Mary Tompkins OSB as celebrant. Burial followed in the Gilmore Cemetery in Cameron County.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Elk Unit, 117 N. Michael St., St. Marys, PA 15857.

Shirley Smith

Shirley Quaker Smith, 78, a resident of the Warren Manor, and formerly of 18 E. St. Clair St., died on Friday (Oct. 6, 2006) at the Warren General Hospital following a lengthy illness.

She was born Aug. 25, 1928, in Emporium, the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Mabel Foster Smith.

She was a housekeeper at Warren General Hospital for many years, retiring in 1995.

She is survived by three sisters, Beverly Smith of Emporium, Gladys Lingenfelter of St. Marys and Dorthy Smith; many nieces and nephews; and longtime friends, Valery and Leroy Hoffman of N. Warren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters, twins Thelma and Velma, Mary Ann, Eddie and Evie Smith, and Joyce Wilson; a brother, Martin Smith; and a stepbrother, Raymond Miller.

A memorial service was held at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., E. Warren, with the Rev. Marcus Briggs officiating.

Christine Grovanz

Christine V. Grovanz, 93, of 436 Old W. Creek Rd., Emporium formerly of Rich Valley Rd. died at Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys Thursday Oct. 12, 2006.

She was born June 3, 1913 in Latrobe, PA, a daughter of the late Peter and Rose DiMoro Grovanz.

Ms. Grovanz retired from Sylvania where she worked for many years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club and St. Mark Catholic Church. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed walking.

Surviving are two sisters, Rose Gentile of Ruselton; Josephine Haight of Ashtabula, OH; two brothers, Joseph and Peter F. Grovanz both of Emporium and several nieces and nephews.

Ms. Grovanz was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Rose DiMoro Grovanz; four sisters, Jennie Yore, Kate Carnovale, Lottie Carlson and Theresa Young and two brothers, James Grovanz and Ralph Grovanz, Sr.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the St. Mark Catholic Church with Rev. Paul S. Siebert as Celebrant.

Burial was in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery.

Treyton L. Davis

Treyton L. Davis, infant son of Juston Davis and Aletha Kondrla, of 250 Nickler Rd., Emporium died Friday (Oct. 13, 2006) at the Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys. He was born Oct. 3, 2006 in St. Marys.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Trinity Kondrla of Emporium; maternal grandmother, Cindy Kondrla; paternal grandparents, Dorlan and Debbie Davis of Wellington, Ohio; maternal great grandmother, Maxine Johnson of Driftwood; paternal great grandparents, Gerald and Elsie Davis of Johnstown; Aunt Shelia Guisto of Emporium; and Uncle Brandon Davis of Wellington, Ohio.

Funeral service was held at the Barnett Funeral Home with Rev. Dwight Simpson, Pastor, Faith Baptist Church, officiated.

Burial was in Huntley Cemetery.

Arle Kuppleweiser

Arle Kuppleweiser, 81, of 25 Meadow Lane, Sinnemahoning, died Tuesday, (April 4, 2006) at Alleghany General Hospital, Pittsburgh Following a lengthy illness.

She was born on March 12, 1925 in Sinnemahoning, the daughter of Ted and Mary DeHart Gore and was a lifelong resident of Cameron County.

On August 7, 1943, at St. James Church in Driftwood. she married Benny Kuppleweiser, who preceded her in death on March 13, 1999,

She was a graduate of Emporium High School and was employed at Pennsylvania Pressed Metals for 20 years. She was also an avid reader all her life.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Lee Keefer (Floyd) of Emporium, 2 grandchildren, Michael Keefer of Sinnamahoning and Dr. Autumn Keefer-Ward of Treasure Lake, one sister, Phyllis "Aunt Dit" Lucas (George) of Brookhaven.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, David Kuppelweiser who died on January 28, 1983 and one brother, Franklin "Buck" Gore.

At Arle's request, there will be no visitation or service. Burial will be at Gilmore Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Memorials may be made to the Sinnemahoning Fire Department and Ambulance Service, Emporium Ambulance Service or the Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Edward M. Barnett Funeral Home, PC.

Mary J. Reynolds

Mary J. Reynolds, 80, of 1007 Cheryls Court, Frederick, Md., formerly of Austin, died Thursday (March 2, 2006) at her home after a brief illness.

Born July 31, 1925, in Emporium, she was a daughter of Vere H. and Jennie Knarr Swesey. On Feb. 28, 1950, in Warren, she married Otis D. Reynolds, who died April 6, 2001.

Mrs. Reynolds had worked for Sylvania Co. for 10 years, and later for Motor Coils, both of Emporium, before her retirement.

She was a member of the Abundant Life Tabernacle of Emporium.

Surviving are three sons, Roben E. Reynolds of Coudersport, Joel A. (Janie) Reynolds of Keating Summit and Timothy L. (Lisa) Reynolds of Emporium; one daughter, Jill M. (Colin) Ripple of Frederick, Md.; one stepson, Larry Reynolds of Phoenix, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Virginia Fu of Johnsonville, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rena "Joy" I. Gleixner of St. Marys; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Donald J. Minard, Vere H. Swesey Jr. and Lon F. Swesey; and a sister, Betty Edinger.

Funeral services were held Saturday (March 4, 2006) at the Abundant Life Tabernacle with the Rev. James Eastman, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Newton Cemetery, Emporium.

Memorials can be made to the Abundant Life Tabernacle, Emporium.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.

Lee Peno

Lee E. Peno, 76, of Sinnemahoning, died Wednesday (March 8, 2006) in the emergency room at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys.

Born Sept. 23, 1929 in Sinnemahoning, he was the son of Lloyd J. and Thelma Pitts Peno. On Nov. 5, 1948 in Middletown, he married Doris M. Gerfen, who survives.

A lifelong resident of Sinnemahoning, Mr. Peno was employed from 1944 until 1952 by the PA Department of Forest & Waters and the PA Department of Highways from 1952 until 1994 when he retired, he worked as an equipment operator for several mining companies including: Penn Kress Flagstone, Fairmen Drilling Company, Clearfield Limestone Company and Sky Haven Coal Company.

Mr. Peno was a member of the Sinnemahoning Sportsmans Club.

In addition to his wife Dois, he is survived by; one son, Robert L. Peno of Sinnemahoning; one daughter, Leeann Macro of Sinnemahoning; and two grandchildren, Kasey Macro of Sinnemahoning, and Bobbie Sue Peno of Sinnemahoning.

Friends will be received in the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home today (Saturday, March 11) from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at which time Funeral and Committal services will be held with the Rev. David Bell, pastor of the Sinnemahoning United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Dwight Simpson, pastor of the Down County Baptist Church, co-officiating.

Interment will be in Gilmore Cemetery, Grove Township.

Dorothy Selfridge

Dorothy Grace Selfridge, 88, of Emporium, formerly of Osceola Mills, died Thursday (March 2, 2006) at the Guy and Mary Felt Manor.

Born Dec. 11, 1917, in Osceola Mills, she was a daughter of William and Susanna Carlson Putsky. On May 10, 1938, in Cumberland, Md., she married Daniel J. Selfridge Sr.

Mrs. Selfridge was a housewife.

She was a member of the Osceola Mills Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph Paul Selfridge of Boise, Idaho, and Peter Bruce Selfridge of Emporium; four grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Daniel James Selfridge Jr.; a sister; and two brothers.

Funeral services were held Monday (March 6, 2006) at the Heath Funeral Home, Osceola Mills, with the Rev. Duncan Nichol officiating. Burial was in Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills.

Wash Snoich

Wash Snoich, 92, of Portland, Ore., formerly of Tamaqua and Allentown, died May 18 in the Crestview Nursing Home, Portland. He was the husband of Margaret (Mulhearn) Snoich. They were married for 23 years.

His first wife, the former Evelyn (Mohr) Snoich, died in 1973. They had been married for 46 years.

He was an administrator and teacher in McAdoo, Nesquehoning and Allentown for 40 years, including supervising principal of the former Mauch Chunk Township schools, before retiring in 1968.

A 1928 graduate of Muhlenberg College, Allentown, he received his master's degree from New York University.

Born in Hauto, he was a son of the late Stephen and Anna Snoich.

He attended Cooper Mountain Presbyterian Fellowship, Beaverton, Ore.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Robert Sutton Snoich of Beaverton; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Myers; a son John; five brothers and three sisters.
