Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Mrs. Mary Dewson

Mrs. Mary Dewson, 92, of 1264 Fort Washington Ave., Fort Washington, Montgomery County, formerly of Bath and Allentown, died Wednesday in Fort Washington Estates. She was the widow of Stewart Dewson.

She was a hostess for the former Horsehead Inn, Palmerton, for many years before retiring.

Born in Hungary, she was a daughter of the late Wendell and Julia Moser.

She was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Bath.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Marion Baran

Marion Baran, 78, of 318 W. Front St., Lansford, died Wednesday evening in the Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale.

The Roche Funeral Home-McNamara Chapel, 3 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, is in charge of the arrangements.

Andrew G. Jacobs

Andrew George Jacobs, 81, of 3329 Nightingdale Drive, Dover, York County, died Tuesday in the York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mildred (Marek) Jacobs, who died in October, 1989.

He was employed by the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company as a mechanic for 40 years before retiring in 1981.

Born in Hauto, he was a son of the late Frank and Julia (Falat) Jacobs, and had resided in Dover since 1981.

He was an Army veteran, having served in North Africa in communications.

Jacobs was a member of American Association of Retired Persons.

Surviving are two sons, David of Columbus, Ohio, and Marty of York, Pa.; a brother Elmer in Delaware; a sister Helen Morgan of Nesquehoning; and two grandchildren.

The Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, is in charge of the arrangements.

Micheal J. Behun

Micheal John Behun, 35, of Chattanooga, Tenn., formerly of Tamaqua, died Saturday in Chatanooga.

He was the son of Joseph and Monica Behun of Tamaqua.

He was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a son, Micheal J. Jr. of Chattanooga; a sister Teresa, wife of Todd Mertz of Tamaqua; two brothers, Joseph IV of Park Place, Mahanoy City, and Matthew of Hamburg; a niece and a nephew.

Services were held in Tennessee.

Mrs. John Trella

Mrs. Anna R. Trella of 1514 Kaywin Ave., Bethlehem, died Tuesday in the Muhlenberg Hospital Center, Bethlehem. She was the wife of John Trella. They were married for 54 years.

Born in McAdoo, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Wallga) Grybose.

She was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, John Jr. of Allentown; two daughters, Anne Marie, wife of William Smith of Hudson, Fla., and Theresa Spengler of Bethlehem; a sister, Sophia Greybush of Bethlehem; a stepbrother, Michael Yagodzinski of McAdoo; and three granddaughters.

Mrs. Anna Huber

Mrs. Anna Huber, 90, of Whitehall Township, died Tuesday in her home. She was the widow of Joseph J. Huber.

She was a weaver for the former Frank's Associates Silk Mill, Northampton, for many years before retiring in 1945.

Born in Slovakia, she was a daughter of the late John and Katerine (Kovalcik) Emerick.

She was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Northampton, where she was a founding member of the Altar and Rosary Society and a member of the Legion of Mary Group. She was a past president of the Branch 443, Forst Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, and a life member of the Laurel Fire Company Auxiliary, Cementon.

Surviving are three daughters, Dorothy, wife of Maynard Strohm of Bethlehem, Sister M. Josanne, at home, and Maryanne, wife of Edward Pohl of South Whitehall Township; three sons, Ernest of Whitehall, Richard of Bethlehem and Joseph Jr. of Walnutport; 28 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Clair P. Herman

Clair P. Herman, 93, of Allentown, died Monday in Cedarbrook, South Whitehall Township. He was the husband of Margaret E. (Bennecoff) Herman. They observed their 64th wedding anniversary last September.

He was a dock worker for the former Branch Motors, Allentown, for eight years before retiring in 1969, and previously had worked for the former Pavia Shuttle Company, Allentown, for 29 years.

Born in Weisenberg Township, he was a son of the late Herbert P. and Mamie E. (Kuhns) Herman.

He was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Zion Union Church, Maxatawny.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Clair C. of Dallas, Luzerne County; a brother Kenneth of Kutztown; eight sisters, Irene, wife of Ernest Kern, Marian, wife of Russell Reimert, and Mrs. Myrtle Dietrich, all of Kutztown, Mrs. Violet E. Heffner of Fleetwood, Mrs. Ruth Dries in Texas, Mrs. Marie Nelson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Mrs. Althea Eisenhard of Reading and Betty, wife of Robert Long of Allentown; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Edward J. Boyle Sr.

Edward J. Boyle Sr., 69, of Aydlett, N.C., formerly of Virginia Beach, Va., died Friday in a Virginia Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Helen (Durich) Boyle. They were married for 50 years.

He was a former police officer in Norfolk City, and previously had retired from the federal government as a computer analyst.

Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late Morgan and Nellie (O'Donnell) Boyle.

He was a member of the Jarvisburg Church of Christ.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Edward J. Jr. of Virginia Beach; six daughters, Sandra, wife of Don Stump of Newport News, Va., Deborah, wife of Larry Johnston of Virginia Veach, Gail, wife of Leon Proffitt of Chesapeake, Va., Cathy, wife of Johnny Miller of Grandy, N.C., and twins Patricia Boyle and Pam Hunter, both of Aydlett; two brothers, John J. of Easton and Frank R. of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Helen Guarente of Pinehurst, N.C., and Mary Lewis of McGaheysville, Va.; seven grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert F.

Leonard Scheese

Leonard Scheese 59, formerly of Lansford, died suddenly May 18, in his home in Harbor City, Calif. He was the husband of Marsha Scheese.

He was an engineer for the Xerox Company.

Born in Lansford, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Scheese.

He was a 1956 graduate of the former Lansford High School.

Surviving with his widow are two daughters, a sister, Carol Matula of Glenside; a brother Donald of Minnesota and a granddaughter.

Services will be held in California.

Frank Zito

Frank Jerome Zito, 55, of San Jose, CA, died Friday (Jan. 27, 2006) at Stanford Hospital, Stanford, CA following a lengthy illness.

Born April 5, 1950 in St. Marys, he was the son of the late Frank S. Zito, and Mary and Ted Whiting. On Nov. 17, 1978, he married the former Denise A. Shaffer, who survives.

He graduated from Cameron County High School in 1968, and was employed at Pine Cone Lumber in Sunnvale, CA for the last 23 years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Beth A. Zito, at home; his parents, Mary and Ted Whiting; two sisters, Gina Zito of Pittsford, NY and Mary Grace Olay of Emporium; and two brothers, Michael Zito of Lithia Springs, GA and Mark Zito of Douglasville, GA.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank S. Zito.

Interment will be at North Bend Cemetery in North Bend.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Liver Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

John Tompkins

John F. (Bee) Tompkins, 76, of Danvers, died Thursday, July 6, 2006, following a longterm illness.

He was the husband of Mary T. (Martin) Tompkins, formerly of Ridgway, who survives and with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.

Born in Emporium, he was the son of the late Paul and Amy (Hertig) Tompkins.

John was a graduate of Emporium High School, Class of 1948 and of Cawtawba College, North Carolina.

He was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Army in the Korean War. Mr. Tompkins was employed in the credit department with Osram Sylvania for 38 years. After retiring, John volunteered his time at Beverly Hospital, Beverly, MA.

He was a communicant of St. Richard Parish in Danvers and he was an avid Boston sports fan.

Surviving him are his children, Karen Tompkins- Wiswall and her husband Chris of Beverly, Sharon Ng and her husband Simon of New Hampshire, John F. Tompkins and his wife Amanda of Peabody, MA. And Jim R. Tompkins and his wife Joan of Ohio. Also leaving his siblings, Jim Tompkins and wife Joan (Kronenwetter) of Girard, PA, formerly of Bradford, PA. Claire Boyer of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Patricia Monahan of Texas, and Mikel of North Carolina. He was the grandfather of Max Modugno, Julie and Jason Tompkins and Nicholas Ng. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.

Donations may be made in John's memory to the Mass. General Memorial Fund, 165 Cambridge St., Suite 600, Boston, MA 02214.

James Cassel

James S. Cassel, of 262 Valley View Road, Emporium, died at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, Thursday (Sept. 14, 2006) following a lengthy illness

He was born Dec 2, 1922 in Kersey, a son ofthe late William and Mary Ferris Cassel. On August 12, 1944 St. Marks Church he married the late Adeline L. Caruso Cassel.

Mr. Cassel served with the US Army during WW II. He rretired from Sylvania where he worked for many years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of St. Mark Church and had been a member of the Moose, Knights of Columbus, VFW and the Bucktail Rod & Gun Club. He also was a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels.

Surviving are a daughter: Diana Kopp, Emporium; a son: James S. Cassel, Jr. and his wife Maryann of Boston, MA; five grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; two sisters Mary Youngmark and Rita "Dolores" Marks, both of Byrnedale; two brothers William Cassel and Donald Cassel, both of St. Marys.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Gabriella Torcaso Caruso and his wife: Adeline L. Caruso Cassel; a son Richard Cassel and two brothers Lorriane and Fran Cassels; and a sister Clara Tyler.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Church today (Saturday) at 10:30 a.m. where the Rev. Paul S. Siebert, as Celebrant

A Military Service will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.

Burial will be in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery, Shippen Township, Pennsylvania

Esther Pearsall

Esther Pearsall Greg, 74, died (Aug. 19, 2006) in Rochester, NY. Born July 15, 1932 in Driftwood, to Arthur and Louise Pearsall, she has lived in Buffalo for several years.

Survivors are her husband, John Greg; stepson, Tom Greg (Robin); sisters, Josephine Reed of Emporium, Helen Pearsall of Coudersport, Pauline Hayes of Monroe, LA., Naomi Dill of Driftwood, Judy Pearsall of St. Marys; brothers, Art Pearsall (Mary) of Kersey, Allen Pearsall of Ridgway, Herbert Pearsall (Phyliss) of Westport, Mass. Robert Pearsall (Barb) of Sellarsville, David Pearsall (Martha) of Snow Camp, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Hank Kulick, her son Charles, brothers Ed and Dick Pearsall and a sister, Mildred Irwin.

Funeral services were at Pacer Funeral Home in Buffalo, with Father David Bialkowski officiating.

She was a very dear wife, sister, mother and friend. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.

Trenna Miller

Trenna M. Miller, 90, of St. Marys, died Monday (Aug. 28, 2006) at home after a brief illness.

She was born Nov. 12, 1915, in Keating Summit, the daughter of the late U. Frank and Trenna Bullock English. She was a former employee of Sylvania in Emporium and had resided in St. Marys since 1943. On Jan. 15, 1943, in St. Marys, she married Charles R. "Red" Miller, Sr., and he preceded her in death on July 10, 1991.

She is survived by two daughters, Sally Murray of St. Marys and Jean Marie (Mrs. Ricky) Grolemund of St. Marys; one son, Charles R. Miller Jr. of St. Marys; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence English, U. Frank English, James English, and one sister, Sara Gibbs. She was the last member of her immediate family.

Funeral services were held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral home on Thursday (Aug. 31) with the Rev. Mary Norton, pastor of the Grace Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial followed in the St. Marys Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Community Nurses Inc., 757 Johnsonburg Rd., Suite 200, St. Marys, PA 15857.
