Mrs. David W. Moore
Mrs. Trudy C. Moore, 65, of 1486 Walnut Lane, Macungie, died Monday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of David W. Moore. They observed their 36th wedding anniversary last July.
Born in Butler, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Cummings) Smith.
She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Orefield.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Cynthia, wife of Larry Cressman of Slatington, Darla, wife of Marvin Berkowitz of York, and Mary, wife of Daniel McCormick of Bechtelsville; two sons, David of Weilerbach, Germany, and Kevin of Columbia, Md.; four sisters, Mary Catherine, wife of Steve Yamnitsky, Rosie McCall and Agnes, wife of Wil Widenhofer, all of Butler, and Helen, wife of Jim Carter of Erie; five brothers, William of Mesa, Ariz., Jack of Lancaster, Calif., James of Butler, Rick of New Kensington, Westmoreland County, and Tom of Herman, Butler County; and seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Helen Vitek
Mrs. Helen Vitek, 89, of Toms River, N.J., formerly of Lansford, died Sunday in the Community Medical Center, Toms River. She was the widow of John Vitek.
A member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, she was a seamstress at the former Jonathan Logan Dress Factory, Lansford, for 30 years before retiring in 1970.
Born in Eckley, Luzerne County, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Buda) Haslego.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Toms River, and a former member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Lansford, where she had belonged to the prayer group.
Surviving are two sons, Leonard of Quakertown and John P. Jr. of Northampton; a daughter, Joan M. Smith of Toms River; three brothers, Michael, Julius and Joseph, all of Hazleton; four sisters, Verna Baran and Anna Marllow, both of Baltimore, Md., Julia Roberts of Hazleton and Charlotte Patton of Tresckow; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Rev. William H. Carter
The Rev. William H. Carter, 48, pastor of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Shenandoah, and St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, Lost Creek, since 1993, died Wednesday in his home in Ocean City, N.J. He also resided in Shenandoah.
Prior to serving the two Schuylkill County churches, he was pastor of St. Patrick Church, McAdoo, 1990-93, and was an assistant pastor at St. John the Baptist de LaSalle Church, Shillington, Berks County, 1988-90; St. Joseph the Worker Church, Orefield, 1980-88; St. Ann Church, Emmaus, 1977-80; St. John Capistrano Church, Bethlehem, 1976-77; and Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church, 1975-77.
He studied for the priesthood at St. Charles Morromeo Seminary, Philadelphia, and was ordained a priest in 1975 in the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena, Allentown.
Born in Shenandoah, he was a son of the late John R. and Nancy M. (Rowan) Carter.
He was a member of the advisory board of Cardinal Brennan High School, Fountain Springs, since 1995, and also was a member of the school's spring budget and audit board, 1993-95.
Rev. Carter was chaplain to the North Schuylkill Council of Catholic Nurses since 1993; a member of the Social Action Bureau Advisory Board, 1992-95; part-time guidance counselor and member of the Marian High School Advisory Board, 1991-93; a member of the Council of Priests, 1991-93; regional coordinator of the Lehigh County Catholic Youth Organization, 1982-88; and a regional director of the Lehigh County Family Life Bureau, 1980-81.
He was a judge of the Diocesan Tribunal since 1989, having served as defender of the bond, 1983-89, and as a special advocate, 1980-83.
Surviving is a sister, Ann Vabolis of Girardville.
Augustine D'Angelo
Augustine "Tina" D'Angelo, 85, formerly of 1330 E. Center St., Mahanoy City, died Thursday morning in the Hometown Nursing Rehabilitation Center, Tamaqua R.2. She was the widow of Pompilio D'Angelo.
She worked for a brief period for the City Shirt Factory, Mahanoy City.
Born in Italy, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (Proetti) Oncidi.
She came to America as a youth and attended Mahanoy City schools and was a member of Scared Heart Catholic Church, Mahanoy City.
Surviving are two sons, Louis of Tamaqua and Joseph of Mahanoy City; a daughter, Anna Marie, wife of John Morba of St. Michaels, Md.; four brothers, Alfred, Ferdinand and Joseph, all of Mahanoy City, and Paul in California; two sisters, Elizabeth Larson in California and Rose Smith of St. Michaels; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Sadie M. Steigerwalt Smith
Mrs. Sadie M. Steigerwalt Smith, 101, formerly of 10th Street, Lehighton, and Jamestown Road, Mahoning Township, died Thursday morning in the St. Luke Manor, Hazleton. She was the widow of Elias Steigerwalt, who died in 1937, and Arthur Smith, who died in 1983.
Born in Indian Hill, Franklin Township, she was a daughter of the late Elly and Ella (Markley) Schnell.
She was a member of Dinkey Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ashfield.
Surviving are 438 descendants, including three daughters, Mrs. Anna Musselman of Slatington, Mrs. Ellen Angstead of Nesquehoning and Alverta, wife of Robert Kern of Danielsville; five sons, James E. Steigerwalt of Ashfield, Russell A. Steigerwalt of Harleysville, Allen A. Steigerwalt of Jim Thorpe, Burdell C. Steigerwalt of Bowmanstown and Norman H. Steigerwalt of Lehighton; 54 grandchildren, 152 great-grandchildren, 110 great-great-grandchildren, four great-great-great-grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 39 step-great-grandchildren, 55 step-great-great-grandchildren and 13 step-great-great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Cora Harvey, who died in 1986, and Mrs. Emma Schaffer, 1984; and three sons, Miles Steigerwalt, 1929, Franklin Steigerwalt, 1925, and Fred Steigerwalt, 1967.

Mrs. Hazel A. Carpenter
Mrs. Hazel A. Carpenter, 84, of 1210 Main Road, Franklin Township, died Thursday morning in the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Lynwood and Cora Ann Carpenter of 1180 Main Road, Franklin Township, with whom she resided.
She was the widow of Lester G. Carpenter, editor of the former Evening Leader Newspaper, Lehighton, who died in 1948.
The deceased was a retired registered nurse, last working at the Veterans Hospital in Northport, Long Island, N.Y.
Born in Franklin Township, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Laura (Buck) Markley.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lehighton.
She graduated from the Allentown Hospital School of Nursing and received her bachelor's degree in nursing at the University of Maryland.
Surviving in addition to her son are two sisters, Mrs. Miriam Kresge of Palmerton and Mrs. Leah Krum of Franklin Township; and two grandsons.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Gladys Wilkinson, who died in 1996; and a brother Hilbert.

Kenneth Stuber
Kenneth Stuber, 77, of Bethlehem, died Thursday in the St. Luke Hospital, Fountain Hill, Bethlehem. He was the husband of June (Kline) Stuber. They were married for 56 years.
He was a supervisor in the coke works of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation before retiring after 43 years of service.
Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Jacob and Estella (Brown) Stuber.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Bethlehem.
Stuber was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a past master counselor of the Order of DeMolay and a member of the MORA Club of Bethlehem.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter Carol, wife of Edward Cool of Bethlehem; two sons, Thomas of Westminster, Md., and Robert of Dallas, Tex.; a brother Richard and a sister, Virginia McCandless, both of Danielsville; six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Richard V. Hess Sr.
Richard V. "Hessie" Hess Sr., 74, of Northampton, died Thursday in the Allentown Osteopathic Medical Center. He was the husband of Elva P. (Wolfe) Hess. They observed their 42nd wedding anniversary in November.
He was a farmhand at the Sunny Slope Farms, Bethlehem, for more than 25 years before retiring in 1986.
Born in Bushkill Township, he was a son of the late Elton Sr. and Eva (Heller) Hess.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Richard V. Jr. of Whitehall Township; four brothers, Russell and Robert, both of Aquashicola, Elton Jr. of Louisville, Ky., and Lewis of Nazareth; a sister, Mrs. Glendora Serfass of Aquashicola; and a step-grandson.
Andrew G. Mriss
Andrew G. Mriss, 87, of 70 Packerton Dam Drive, Lehighton, died Thursday evening in the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. He was the husband of Norma M. (Hontz) Mriss. They observed their 53rd wedding anniversary in January.
He was worked on a section of the former Lehigh Valley Railroad for 20 years, and later was employed by the Yale Construction Company, Palmerton, before retiring in 1978.
Born in Packerton, Mahoning Township, he was a son of the late Michael G. and Susanne (Harvilla) Mriss.
He was a staff sergeant in the Army during World War II, having served with the Infantry in the European Theater of Operations.
Mriss was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Lehighton, where he belonged to the Holy Name Society.
He was also a member of the American Legion Post 314, Lehighton, and the Beaver Run Rod and Gun Club.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Roger and Gregory, a daughter Andrea, wife of Ernest Binder, and a brother John, all of Lehighton; a sister Betty, wife of Kenneth Benninger of Reading; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Paul; a sister Mary; and two grandchildren.

Elizabeth G. Huber
Mrs. Elizabeth G. Huber, 90, formerly of 50 W. 10th St., Jim Thorpe, died this morning at Weatherwood, the Carbon County Home for the Elderly in Weatherly. She was the widow of John F. Huber, who died in 1978.
Born in East Mauch Chunk, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Bertha (Hawk) Kattner.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe.
Surviving is a son, John J. Huber of Jim Thorpe; a brother, Joseph Kattner of Jim Thorpe, and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Callen, Mrs. Bertha Kehrli, Mrs. Lena Hydro, Mrs. Mary Hydro, Mrs. Albertine Leinhard, and Margaret Kattner. Also three brothers, William, Bernard and John Kattner.

Francis E. Graver
Francis E. Graver, 83, of 14 Larch St., Lehighton, died Thursday in the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. He was the husband of Ruth M. (Hallman) Graver. They were married 56 years last July 14.
He was employed as a ice plant operator and carpenter for Graver Brothers of Lehighton for many years before retiring.
Born in Lehighton, he was a son of the late Ralph and Pearl (Klinger) Graver.
He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Lehighton.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Larry F. of Franklin Township, and Terry E. of Graverville, Lehighton; a brother, Ralph (Jack) of Millville, Del.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Grace M. Roth, 99, formerly of 1722 Highland St., Allentown, died Friday in the Phoebe Home, Allentown. She was the widow of Earl J. Roth.
Born in Danielsville, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Gertrude (Leh) Mohrey.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Catasauqua.
Surviving are two sons, Gerald J. and Edward E., and a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy M. Yeager, all of Allentown; a brother Harold of Northampton; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Houda of Allentown and Mrs. Ruth DeNuff of Wilton, Conn.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Alfred W. Ritter
Alfred W. "Big Al" Ritter, 77, of Northampton, died Sunday in the Muhlenberg Hospital Center, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Irene M. (Biechey) Ritter. They observed their 56th wedding anniversary last July.
He was a presser for Tama Manufacturing, Northampton, for 32 years before retiring in 1982.
Born in Whitehall Township, he was a son of the late Samuel W. and Annie L. (Lobach) Ritter.
He was a member of St. Paul Union Church, Whitehall.
Ritter was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 353, Northampton, and the Allen Township Volunteer Fire Company, Kreidersville.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Thomas S. of Whitehall; two daughters, Janice L. of Nazareth and Judith A., wife of Walter Humphreys of Dunwoody, Ga.; six sisters, Lillian M., wife of Robert Snyder of Bethlehem, Mrs. Beatrice A. Bretz of Frederick, Md., Kathryn, wife of Vincent Krause of Slatington, Lorraine S., wife of Alan Steele, and Myrtle, wife of Joseph Jandrisovits, both of Northampton, and Shirley, wife of Donald Reph of West Chester; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Marcie K. Harris
Mrs. Marcie K. Harris, 76, of 402 Main St., Walnutport, died Sunday in her home. She was the widow of Ralph Harris Jr.
Born in Waterbury, Conn., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Monica (Kucinskas) Kazlauskas.
Surviving are a son Benjamin of Maple Valley, Wash.; three daughters, Jeannie R. Green and Joan V., wife of John W. Britton, both of Walnutport, and Carol A., wife of Francis Matisinez of Slatington; a brother, Stanley Stancavage of Carbondale, Lackawanna County; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Marsh.
