Mary Husarik

Mary E. Husarik, 84, a resident of Austintown, OH, for many years, and also formerly of Erie, died Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where she resided.

Born September 18, 1920 in Lamont, she was the daughter of Steven and Elizabeth Horvath Gabriel. She was married to Joseph J. Husarik, who died in 1984.

Mrs. Husarik was a beautician for many years in the Hudson, Ohio, area. During WWII, she worked at Kane Manufacturing and at several defense plants. She enjoyed playing the piano and playing cards.

Surviving are three sisters, Helen Zampogna and Elizabeth "Betty" Marconi, both of Kane, and Lillian Johnson of Wellsville, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and husband, by brothers Cyril, Edward and Louis Gabriel; two sisters, Olga Savoia and Pauline Johnston.

Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00, at which time a celebration of her life will be held by those in attendance. Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Twinsburg, Ohio on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to The Lutheran Home at Kane or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Helen M. Detwiler

Helen M. Detwiler, 97, formerly of Johnsonburg and Kane, died Monday evening, Sept. 24, 2012 at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport.Born July 8, 1915 in Johnsonburg, she was the daughter of John and Bessie Detwiler. She attended college at Penn State and in Indiana, Pa., and was employed as a teacher and counselor for many years for the Johnsonburg School District, retiring in 1976. Miss Detwiler was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kane and was a volunteer at the Friends' Memorial Public Library in Kane. She was an avid Penn State, Steelers and Pitt football fan, and traveled extensively after her retirement.Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Edward and William Peterson, both of Kane, and Judy Phillips of High Point, N.C.; plus several great nieces and nephews, including her caregiver, Tammy Swanson of Kane. Several great great nieces and nephews also survive.She was preceded in death, besides her parents, by a sister and four brothers.Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27 at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home in Kane, where a service will be held at 1 p.m. with the Rev. W. Craig Smith, pastor of the Mt. Jewett - Hazel Hurst United Methodist Churches, officiating. Interment will follow in the Wardvale Methodist Cemetery, Johnsonburg.Memorial contributions may be made to a church or charity of the donor's choice.

Stanley V. Bizzak

Stanley V. Bizzak, 87, formerly of 412 Elk Ave. in Kane, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 22, 2012 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where he was a resident.Born Dec. 1, 1924 in Lamont, he was the son of John and Mary Cehovin Bizzak. On Feb. 9, 1952 in Kane, he married Alice A. Stark, who died Jan. 11, 1998.Mr. Bizzak owned and operated S.V. Bizzak Sand & Gravel for many years, retiring in 1983; and was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church in Kane.Surviving are a daughter, Linda (Bruce) Payne of Kane; a son, Victor (Pam) Bizzak of Kane; a stepson, Stark (Virginia) Shrubb of St. Marys; and two brothers, Lewis Bizzak of Kane and Edward Bizzak of Pittsburgh. Twelve grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive.He was preceded in death, besides his wife and parents, by a stepson, Stanford Shrubb; a sister, Mary Grolemund; and brothers Frank, Joseph, Max, John and Emil Bizzak.Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Callistus Catholic Church with Father Thomas Brown, pastor of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Eldred, as Celebrant. Alverta A. "Pete" Castor

Mrs. Alverta A. "Pete" Castor, 86, passed into the next life at 6 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012 in Kane Community Hospital following an extendedillness. She was born Oct. 12, 1925 in Accident, Md. to the late Harry and Ida Holliday Wilhelm.An area resident for the past 50 years, "Pete" retired from Sylvania after 30 years service. She was a workaholic and kept an immaculate home andenjoyed going to Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and playing bingo.She is survived by three daughters, Noreen Griffith and husband Dan, Sheffield, Anita Frederoski, Sheffield, and Loretta Davidson and husbandJack, Kane; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Castor was preceded in death by her husband, Norman "Babe" Castor; a son, John Castor; a brother, Paul Wilhelm; and a sister, Buella Gall.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, in the Sheffield United Methodist Church with Reverend Martin Reynolds, pastor, Clarendon Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Sheffield Cemetery. Thelma L. Johnson

Thelma L. Johnson, 80, of 290 Burdick Lane, Kane, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, N.C.Thelma was born in Commodore, PA, on Nov. 14, 1931, the daughter of the late Mead and Lola Ludwig. Thelma graduated from Johnstown Central High School in the class of 1949. She was a member of Tabor Lutheran Church where she served in many capacities including Sunday School Teacher, Funeral Committee, Lucia Committee and Lydia Circle. Thelma was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed watching the numerous activities of her grandchildren, the wildlife that appeared in the fields surrounding her West Kane home and walking on the beach in Florida. Julia E. “Judy” Bressler

Julia E. “Judy” Bressler, 93, formerly of Johnsonburg, passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at the Lutheran Home at Kane where she had been a resident since 1996.Born March 3, 1919, in Renova, she was a daughter of the late LeRoy F. and Emma Stewart Bressler.Miss Bressler lived most of her life in Johnsonburg and was a member of the Methodist Church there and had worked for the Stackpole Corporation until her retirement in 1970. She was also a member of the D.A.R.Surviving are her sister, Marjorie M. Zampogna of Kane; nieces and nephews; and many great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by a brother, Edward L. Bressler; and two sisters, Maxine C. Buckland and Helen M. Marcel Charles Lang Jr.

Marcel Charles Lang Jr., 84, formerly of Whispering Oaks, Hermitage, Warren, and Mt. Jewett, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, in Orange Village Care Center, Masury, Ohio.He was born Nov. 9, 1927 in Bradford, a son of the late Marcel Charles Lang Sr. and Pearl Nellie Warfle Lang. He was a graduate of the former Hamlin Township High School in McKean County, and served with the U.S. Navy during WW II. Marcel was employed as a lineman for Western Union Telegraph Co. for 22 years and retired in 1990 from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board where he worked for 15 years. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion, Post 574, Mount. Jewett. Surviving are his wife, the former Bertha C. Korep, also a resident at Orange Village Care Center; two daughters, Diane M. Crow and her husband Larry, Hampton, N.H., and Marcy A. Wiseman and her husband Neal, Plantation, Fla.; a grandson, Matthew A. Crow; a brother, Ronald D. Lang, Nevada; and a stepdaughter, Georgeanne Shirey and her husband Robert, Utah. Besides his parents, Marcel was preceded in death by a stepson, Richard LeVan. Stanley "Beck" Debevec

Stanley "Beck" Debevec was born on Dec. 4, 1924 and on April 18, 2012 was led to heaven by his angel at the age of 87. Beck was born in James City. He and his wife, Rose, owned and operated Beck's Cafe (now James City Cafe) for many years.Graveside services with military honor guard will be held at St. Callistus Cemetery on Sept. 15, 2012 at 11 a.m. with a Celebration of Life following at the Highland Township Fire Department in James City.

Mary N. Housler-Slocum

Mary N. Housler-Slocum, 88, of 9605 Rte. 6, passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Bradford Regional Medical Center.Born March 27, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Ceasare and Delfina Colacchio Pucci. On April 28, 1946, she married Robert L. Housler Sr. who preceded her in death. She later married Leonard W. Slocum who also preceded her in death.Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church and also attended the Mt. Jewett Assembly of God Church. She was employed throughout her life as a secretary, retiring from the Seneca Highlands IU9. She also had been a leader of the 4H Horse Club. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia (Bruce) Jack of Mt. Jewett and Cathy (Michael) Thomas of Smethport; three grandsons, Adam Jack of Smethport, Robert Housler of Kane and David Thomas of Smethport; four granddaughters, Shelley Jack of Bradford, Donna Lorenzo of Emporium, Amy Alves of Easton and Bridgette Housler of Emporium; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death, in addition to her husbands and parents, by a son, Robert L. Patricia Ann Harp

Patricia A. Harp, 71, of 15 Kushequa Ave. in Mt. Jewett, formerly of Marienville, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 5, 2012 at the Kane Community Hospital after a recent illness.Born March 17, 1941 in Allison Park, she was the daughter of George L. and Anna L. Lane Schreiber. On Feb. 13, 1960 in Lucinda, she married Forest W. Harp, who died in 2007.Catholic by faith, she served in the U.S. Navy in Hawaii, then had worked as a packer for Owens Illinois in Brockport.Surviving are a daughter, Sueann Oakes of Wilcox; five sons, Roger Harp of Keithville, La., Steve Harp and Rusty Harp, both of Kane, William Harp of Johnsonburg and Homer Harp of Kane; a sister, Sharlene Vito of Kane; a brother, Larry Schreiber of Summerville, S.C.; plus 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by three brothers and three children at childbirth.Friends may attend a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane with the Very Rev. Thelma J. Clark

Thelma J. Clark, 82, of 287 Spring St., Kane, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Sept. 25, 1929 in Highland, she was the daughter of Roy E. and Edna J. Wickert Neely. On Aug. 15, 1955 in Baltimore, Md., she married James L. Clark, who died in 2000.
Mrs. Clark worked at Stackpole Corp. in Kane for many years, and later at The Lutheran Home at Kane for several years.
She was a member of the First Church of God and a Life Member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, both in Kane.
Surviving are two sons, Edward J. (Vicky) Bliss of Kane and Daniel R. (Jody) Bliss of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Linda J. (Dennis) Swanson of James City and Sandra L. (Melvin) Brinkley of Kane; a stepdaughter, Jackie (Robert) Pribble of Perham, Maine; a sister, Elizabeth Seaman of Ridgway; 14 grandchildren, Lee, Quentin, Bradley, Bill, Jim, Laura, Judy, Kim, Jeremy, Parker, Amy, Aaron, Coleen and Shannon, plus 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her husband and parents, by a son, David C. Bliss, Jr. in May of this year; her twin sister Twila Stevenson, and sisters Margaret in infancy, Helen Wayant, Rose Miller, Ruby Wolfe, Patricia Rapp and Clara Drake; and brothers Eugene Neely and Milton Neely.
Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., at which time a service will be held there with the rev. Chad Troup, pastor of the First Church of God, officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.

James P. Stokes

James Paul Stokes, 17, of West Newton, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born June 21, 1986, in McKeesport, the beloved son of James M. and Mary Miereczko Stokes, of West Newton. He was a senior at Yough High School and was employed by Bob Evans Restaurant in New Stanton and Motordrome Speedway in Smithton. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a loving sister, Samantha Stokes; paternal grandparents, James Stokes and Alice (Coleman) Istvanik, both of Elizabeth; his great-grandmother, Leta (Bowen) Stokes, of Glassport; two aunts, Barbara Hitcho and husband, Richard, of Monongahela, and Paula Pagnotta and husband, Frank, of McKeesport; two uncles, Paul Miereczko, of Glassport, and Robert Stokes and wife, Brenda, of Florida; also many great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Paul and Angelina (D'Amario) Miereczko. Friends will be received in the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton, Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. John A. Regoli officiating.

Dorothy Lee Pasternak

Dorothy Lee Pasternak, 50, of West Newton, went home, with her family by her side, on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 in UPMC-Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born September 30, 1953 in Mt. Pleasant. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Walter Pasternak, Sr. whose anniversary would be May 15th ; a daughter, Kerri and fiancée, Brett Hugus of Wyano; a son, Walter, Jr. and wife, Amy at home and a daughter, Nellie Kutas and husband, Jim of Elizabeth; four grandchildren, Michael and Thomas and her prince and princess, Walter and Bailey; the following sisters and brother, Arlene Hayden of Farmington; Lois Backus of Uniontown; Raymond Allshouse, Jr. of Scottdale; Cheryl Walmsley of Monessen and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Agnes Harshman Allshouse. She loved bingo and her family. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish Polish National Catholic Church of McKeesport. She was the manager of their family business The Valley Hotel of Clairton where she made many friends. She will be truly missed by all. Friends will be received in the J. William McCauley, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. West Newton on Thursday, from 7-9 pm and Friday, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm, where a blessing service will be held Saturday at a time to be announced. Interment will follow in the West Newton Cemetery.

DANIEL CODELUPPI

Daniel Codeluppi, 97, of Blythedale, died Tuesday, October 12, 2004. He was born March 7, 1907 in Blythedale, a son of the late Fulgenso and Adelina Vezzani Codeluppi. He was a retired, self employed carpenter and during the early years of retirement, he was employed as the maintenance manager by the Belle Vernon Holiday Inn. Dan was an avid baseball fan his entire life. During his younger days, he played for the WMBU team of the Daily News League. Survivors include two sisters, Mary Reggiani and Sylvia Codeluppi, both of Blythedale; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Alfred “Harris”, Arthur “Noke”, Fred “Buck” and Adolph “Joe” Codeluppi; and four sisters, Annie Casoni, Emma Bramucci, Edith Ranzieri and Florence Baldini. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton. A blessing service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. John A. Regoli officiating. Interment in West Newton Cemetery.

Mary White

Mary White, 90, of Indiana, formerly of West Newton where she lived with her husband during their 72 years of marriage until she made her home with her daughter, Gerry Hamacher and her husband, Hubert in Indiana. She passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004. She was born Oct. 7, 1914 in McKeesport a daughter of the late Angelo and Salvatricia Scialabba Domingo. Mary was a member of the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in West Newton, the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and the West Newton Senior Citizens. She was a very talented homemaker enjoying sewing, ceramics, tole painting, cooking and baking and was a member of the Homemakers Club. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel White on Nov. 1, 2002; a great grandson, Shane Conley Hamacher; two sisters, Rose Mingo and Margaret Romano; a brother Samuel Domingo and three nephews. She is survived by her daughter, Geraldine M. “Gerry” Hamacher and husband, Hubert of Indiana; three grandchildren, Laurie Levendusky and husband, Jimmy of Blairsville; Maryann Grant and husband, Steve of Silver Spring, Md. and David Hamacher and wife, Diane of Orlando, Fla., five great grandchildren, Heather Conley, Brittany, Justin, Michael Samuel and Joshua Hamacher; a brother, John Domingo of McKeesport and nine nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the J. William McCauley Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., West Newton on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 12:30 pm in Holy Family Church, West Newton, with the Rev. John A. Regoli as celebrant. Interment in West Newton Cemetery.

Paul Robert "Bob" Stubbs, Sr.

Paul Robert "Bob" Stubbs Sr., 85, of Hutchinson, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at his home. He was born Sept. 29, 1919, in Westmoreland City, a son of the late Milton and Margaret (Common) Stubbs. Prior to retirement, he was employed at the Hutchinson Coal Mine, and he was a life member of the United Mine Workers of America. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Keck) Stubbs, in 2002, and two brothers, Gerald and William Stubbs. He is survived by two sons, Gerald M. Stubbs and wife, Linda, of Hutchinson, and Paul Stubbs Jr. and wife, Edwinna "Gay, " of Yukon; three daughters, Elaine Kowalewski and husband, Bob, of South Carolina, Patty Lash and husband, Joe, of West Newton, and Donna Harris and husband, Paul, of Hutchinson; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, John W. Keck and wife, Kay, of West Newton. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. Steve Listisen

Steve Listisen, 83, of West Newton, died Monday, March 28, 2005, at home. He was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Wyano, Pa., a son of the late John and Eva (Burcanairc) Listisen. He was a retired owner of Listisen Plumbing and Heating. He was a member of the First Church of God, West Newton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Listisen; and a sister, Mary Contillo. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris (Richards) Listisen; a son, Steve Listisen and wife, Leslie, of Hubbard, Ohio; a daughter, Lona Stinebaugh, of Elizabeth Township; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Bartron, of Lilburn, Ga.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Listisen, of Georgia; and two sisters, Kay Lantz, of Florida, and Lottie Vitanza, of Pittsburgh. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in West Newton Cemetery with Pastor Frank Todaro officiating. Interment in West Newton Cemetery.

John Andrew "Yush" Filapose

John Andrew “Yush” Filapose, 73, of Lowber, died Monday, March 21, 2005 at Mercy-Jeannette Hospital in Jeannette. Born January 11, 1932 in Lowber he was the son of the late John Frank and Anna Agnes (Horney) Filapose. Prior to retirement, he was employed 34 years as a drafting supervisor by Lehigh Design. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Sutersville, and a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army as a M.P. John was an avid gardener, active grandparent, and a true gentleman. He always loved a good joke and spread his humor to all those around him. Anyone who came in contact with him left with a laugh or smile on their face. John’s legacy is his family. He will truly be missed by all of them. He was, is, and always will be their hero. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Arlene F. (Contrella) Filapose; four devoted children, Rhonda Yakopec and husband Skip of N.C.; John Filapose, Jr. of Lowber; Jared Filapose and wife Tracey of Irwin RD; Rachel Pokrajac and husband Milo of Greensburg; eight grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Natalie and Ashley Yakopec, John, Hannah, Abby, and Jake Filapose, Katarina and Nadia Pokrajac; one sister, Delores Novacek; two sisters-in-law, Dolores McClain and Karen Filapose; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Filapose and a sister, Loretta Filapose. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton, where a blessing service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John A. Regoli officiating. Interment in West Newton Cemetery with Military Honors by the Greensburg V.F.W. Honor Guard.
