STELLA OLSCHON

Stella Olschon, 89, of Belle Vernon, formally of West Newton died Monday, March 21, 2005 at TLC Adult Care Center in West Newton. Born January 3, 1916 in Pittsburgh she was the daughter of the late George and Catherine (Shiry) Kiselich. Prior to retirement, she was employed for 20 years as a tester by Westinghouse in Youngwood. She was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Herminie. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Parker of Belle Vernon; Joyce Brant and Karen Oblak, both of Burbank, CA; a son, John H. Olschon of Aiken, SC; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; four brothers, Jay and Pete both of West Newton; Joe of Yukon; and Ted of CO; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in by her husband John G. "Poofy" Olschon in 1984; a daughter, Shirley Hoard; two brothers, John and Charlie; an a sister, Ann. Friends will be received at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY, JR. FUNERAL HOME, INC., West Newton on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral of Divine Liturgy in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Herminie with Father Gregory J. Michalisin as celebrant. Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made American Cancer Society 320 Bilmar Dr. Pittsburgh, PA 15205-4620 or Albert Gallatin Hospice 610 Park Ave. Monongahela, PA 15063.

THOMAS M. SPITZER

Thomas M. Spitzer, 77, of West Newton, PA, died Sunday, March 20, 2005 at Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Twp. Born June 25, 1927 in West Newton he was the son of the late Thomas and Violet (Johnson) Spitzer. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a carpenter by Westinghouse Waltz Mill. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in West Newton, and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Estelle (Brandle) Spitzer; a daughter, Nancy Semon and husband Michael of West Newton; a granddaughter, Meredith Semon; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Dixie Gibbons. Friends will be received in the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in Christ Lutheran Church, Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Allen R. CALVIN JAMES SCHWAB

Calvin James Schwab, 90, of West Newton, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at his home. He was born September 13, 1914, in Wellsburg, W. Va., a son of the late Edward Amos and Emma Elizabeth (Piper) Schwab. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a foreman by U. S. Steel Corps. Irvin Works. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in West Newton and in his youth was active with the Boy Scouts. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel (McCreary) Schwab on Dec. 6, 1996; three sisters, Luchia Keefer, Gail E. Simon and Ellen Norah Klingensmith and three brothers, George W., Allen E. and Jess W. Schwab. He is survived by two sons, Calvin Lee Schwab and wife, Deborah of Erie and David Edward Schwab and wife, Duong “Dawn” of West Newton; two grandsons, Stephen J. Schwab and James D. Schwab and wife, Catherine and a great granddaughter, Hannah K.; three sisters, Edith M. Zyla and Emogene S. Klich both of West Newton and Esther L. Dainty and husband, William of North Huntingdon and a brother, Dean Schwab and wife, Shirley of West Newton and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Friends will be received on Thursday from 7-9 pm and Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME, INC. WEST NEWTON where services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Allen R. Riethmiller officiating. Interment will follow in the West Newton Cemetery. GARDNER J. "TUSSY" TOSCANO

Gardner J. “Tussy” Toscano, 82, of Bullskin Twp. Acme, PA, formerly of West Newton, died Friday, March 04, 2005 in UPMC-Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born August 19, 1922 in Christy Park, a son of the late James Vincent and Veronica Marie (McKeeta) Toscano. He was a barber for 60 years and owned several barber shops in West Newton for 32 years. Most recently he barbered with his son and grandson at Toscano’s in Rostraver Twp. While living in West Newton he was a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church. He also formerly owned the Hitching Post and Pleasant Inn in Mt. Pleasant. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, achieving the rank of sergeant by the age of 17 and was the last surviving member of his Army chemical mortar battalion. He was a member of the VFW Post 7812, the American Legion Post 401 and the LOOM #31 all in West Newton. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joyce Toscano, two sons, James V. Toscano and wife, Linda of West Newton and Gary S. Toscano and wife, Karen of Las Vegas, NV; four daughters, Kathy Matulay of Mt. Pleasant; Kristine Weinberg and husband, Jim of Hollywood, FL; Karolynne Griffiths and husband, Chris of Plantation, FL and Kim Fiesta and husband, Don of York, PA; Greg Vanyo and wife, Betsy of Mt. Pleasant; twelve grandchildren, James G., Daniel, Patrick, Karrie, Lindsay, Sarah, Katy, Mickey, Rayne, Gina, Staci and Sean; four great grandchildren; three nieces; his former wife, Josephine Toscano and his companion, Lola. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Mitchelltree and a brother, Ferdinand Toscano. There will be no viewing. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 7, 2005 at 10 am in Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, West Newton with the Rev. John A. Regoli as celebrant. RICHARD D. HANNA

Richard D. Hanna, 54, of Allen, Texas, formerly of West Newton, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, in North Central Medical Center, McKinney, Texas. He was a devoted son, husband, father and brother and a respected colleague at the F.D.I.C. in Texas. He was born on Sept. 20, 1950, in Greensburg, a son of the late Moses and Rose (Abraham) Hanna. He was an attorney for the F.D.I.C. in Dallas, Texas, and a member of the Texas Bar Association. He is survived by his son, Wayne Hanna, of Houston, Texas; his brother, George M. Hanna, of West Newton; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kwiyon "Mona" (Ju) Hanna, in 2002. Friends will be received Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. JOHN W. CELAPINO

John W. “Jack” Celapino, 77, of West Newton died Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at home. Born October 11, 1927 in West Newton he was the son of the late Joseph and Thelma (Sterner) Celapino. Jack owned and operated Celapino Service Stations in West Newton until his retirement. He was a veteran of WW II having served in the U.S. Navy Seabees. A charter and life member of the West Newton V.F.W #7812, life member of the First Baptist Church, and a former member of the West Newton Lions Club. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Norma (Maund) Celapino; four children, Jack Celapino and wife Sue; Randy Celapino and wife Anne; Lynn McCauley and husband Jack all of West Newton; Dawn Celapino and Jim Hahn of San Diego; nine grandchildren, Jason and wife Trinity, and Shalyn Celapino, John, Ben, Andrew, and Laura McCauley, Randy, LeeAnn, and Sara Celapino; one great granddaughter, Hannah Celapino; a sister, Janice Beam and husband Dan of Estero, FL; a brother, Floyd "Butch" Celapino and wife Emma of Ruffsdale; a sister-in-law, Dorrie Celapino, also a number of nieces and nephews. LOUISE D. ZIMMERMAN

Louise D. Zimmerman, 95, of Charleroi, formerly of West Newton, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005. She was born May 16, 1909, in West Newton, a daughter of the late Robert L. and Grace (Kauffman) Streicher. She was a member of First Baptist Church, West Newton. She is survived by her daughter, Joan Tedrow, of Charleroi; five grandchildren, Candace Suarez and husband, Joe, of Greensburg, John C. Tedrow and wife, Barbara and George C. Tedrow Jr., and wife, Elizabeth, all of Charleroi, William A. Tedrow and wife, Jacqueline, of Washington, Pa., and Chris R. Tedrow and wife, Staci, of Rostraver Township; 13 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Zimmerman, in 1985; a sister, LaVerne Bianchi; and brothers, William Britton, Howard and Kenneth Striker, and an infant brother, Alfred. Friends will be received at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. WILLIAM L. RICHARDS

William L. Richards, 83, of West Newton, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at TLC Adult Care Center, West Newton. Born Nov. 29, 1921, in West Newton, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Martha (Ryflinger) Richards. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a meat cutter by the Acme and Kroger Grocery Stores. He was a member of the First Church of God in West Newton, and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Stella F. (Breakiron) Richards; two daughters, Nyla R. Topinka and husband, Jerry, of Dacula, Ga., and Roberta R. Hassick and husband, Denis, of Monroeville; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Pam and husband, Joe, Michael and wife, Karen, and Wendy; three great-grandchildren, Ashlie, Joseph and Stella; a sister, Doris Listisen and husband, Steve; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lillie Hanna, Lucetta Oblack and Irene Daufen; and three stepbrothers, Raymond, Arthur and Glenn Richards. CHERYL LYNN KEENER

Cheryl Lynn Keener, 49, was raised in McKeesport and later, lived in Herminie, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005. She was born December 4, 1955 in McKeesport a daughter of Martha Jane (Sigmund) Reitz of White Oak and the late Frederick Ronald Reitz. For most of her life she was employed as a nurse’s aide. In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband, William L. Keener; three children, William Lee Keener and wife Holly; Sherri Hiles and husband James and Jr Keener; nine grandchildren, Cody Clark, James Hiles, Travis Keener, Devon Hiles, Skylar Keener, Jade Keener, Trevor Keener, Brynne Keener, and Kendalyn Clancy; two brothers, Ronald and Randy Reitz; and a sister, Chris Reitz. Friends will be received on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. MARGARET TIZIANI

Margaret Tiziani, 88, of Sutersville, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in Mercy Jeannette Hospital. She was born Aug. 5, 1916, in Clymer, daughter of the late Felix and Elizabeth (Noso) Rocco. She had been employed at the Sutersville Moose for more than 50 years and had also worked at Sutersville Lumber Co. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Sutersville and she was a member and past senior regent of the Ladies of the Moose in Sutersville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Adam Tiziani, in 1978; her son-in-law, Phillip Pontoriero, in 2003; and three brothers, James, Frank and Michael Rocco. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Pontoriero, of Sutersville; and a number of nieces and nephews and their families. Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton. Matilda "Tillie" Krasnevich Dave

Matilda "Tillie" Krasnevich Dave, 77, of West Newton, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at her home. She was born Feb. 27, 1927, in Trauger, a daughter of the late John and Anna (Lesko) Penska. She was a member of the West Newton United Presbyterian Church, the VFW Post #33 Ladies Auxiliary in Greensburg, the West Newton Lions Club and the Rostraver Sportsman's Club. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Phil Dave; six children, John Krasnevich and wife, Linda, of West Newton, Mariann Shipley, of West Newton, Charles Krasnevich and wife, Mary Jo, of West Newton, Rose Guerra, of West Newton, Chester Krasnevich, of Belle Vernon, and Vickie Green and husband, Donald, of West Newton; two stepchildren, Robert Dave and wife, Deidre, of West Newton, and Kathy Sandy, of West Newton; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, John "Vince" Penska, of Mt. Pleasant, and Edward Penska, of Jeannette; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Krasnevich; a son-in-law, Wayne Shipley; brothers, John Lesko, Emil Magga, Al, Steve and Charles Penska; and sisters, Julia Schwickrath, Ann Gelet and Mary Vargo. Claude L. Wood, Sr.

Claude L. Wood Sr., 72, of Irwin, formerly of Cowansburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, in Mercy Jeannette Hospital. Born Aug. 10, 1932, in Scott Haven, he was a son of the late James C. and Irene Huseman Wood. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a craneman by Tygart Steel in North Versailles. He was a member of the American Legion in West Hempfield. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marge (Trayter) Wood; four children, Margaret Paulus, Curtis and Albert "Fred" Wood, all at home, and Claude Wood Jr. and wife, Virna, of Guffey; eight grandchildren, Scott and Spencer Paulus, and Brent, Krystal, Ashley, Courtney, Austin and Danielle Wood; two brothers, Sherm and Edward "Butch" Wood, both of North Carolina; a sister, Doris Matthews, of Gratztown; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Claudene; brothers, Barney, Woody, Jim, Nook, Albert and Charles Wood; and sisters, Darlene Wood and Margaret Sirofchuck. JOSEPH "WINK" WALKO

Joseph "Wink" Walko, 79, of West Newton, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at his home. Born Sept. 10, 1925, in West Newton, he was the son of the late George and Katherine (Piotrouska) Walko. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie (Peters) Walko; six brothers, George, Michael, Frank, Lawrence, John and Stanley Walko; and four sisters, Anna Walko, Sophia Brunory, Julia Kuszaj and Helen Swager. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Mismas and Kathy VanBatenburg; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Josephine Miller. Friends will be received at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. John A. BETTYJEAN YUVAN

Bettyjean Yuvan, 55, of Hutchinson, passed away at her home on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, after a valiant six-year battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 16, 1949, in Greensburg, a daughter of William and Betty (Parise) Kubic, of West Newton. After graduating from West Newton High School in 1967, she went to work for West Penn Power. She was also a licensed agent for Insurance Service Center and had been employed by Giant Eagle, both in West Newton. She was a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in West Newton. Bettyjean loved to dance and often attended oldies dances, even after she had gotten sick. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dena, in 1973. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 35 years, David M. Yuvan; a daughter, Jennifer, of Greensburg; a son, Darren, of New York City; a sister, Karen Kennedy, of Tarrs; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Yuvan, of Hutchinson; three sisters-in-law, Marianne Maughan and husband, Robert, of Hutchinson, Betty Roebuck and husband, John, of Arnold City, and Betty Yuvan, of Hutchinson; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. Friends will be received at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. JOHN R. McCUNE

John R. McCune, 91, of Ruffsdale, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. Born Dec. 22, 1913, in South Huntingdon Township, he was a son of the late Charles and J. Belle (Everett) McCune. He was a lifelong farmer and a retired steelworker and coal miner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Lynch) McCune, in 1995; his daughter, Elizabeth A. Cain, in 1989; two sisters, Annabelle McCune and Erma Charlesworth; and a brother, Gilbert McCune. He is survived by his son, John R. McCune and wife, Naomi, of Smithton; eight grandchildren, Todd McCune, of Smithton, Melissa Poe and husband, Worthy, of Acme, Denise McIntyre, of Ruffsdale, Lisa Cain, of Yukon, and fiance, Dan Sperlak, John Cain, of Ruffsdale, Anita Welch and husband, Eric, of Ruffsdale, Amy Pasternak and husband, Wally, of West Newton, and Candy Mlinek and husband, Joe, of Wyano; four great-grandchildren, Dylan Sperlak, Sara Rose Welch, and Walter and Bailey Pasternak; a son-in-law, Dennis Cain, of Ruffsdale; a brother, Charles McCune, of Fallowfield; a sister, Pearl Stants, of Ruffsdale; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mildred Helen Bliner

Mildred Helen Bliner, 61, of West Newton, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at her residence. Born Nov. 19, 1943, in New Eagle, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Hreno) Bliner. Mildred was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. She is survived by two sons, Jerry A. Bliner and wife, Lana, of West Newton, and Michael Bliner, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Kayla and Jeremy. Friends will be received at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Elizabeth A. Dunlap officiating. Larry E. Yowan

Larry E. Yowan, 83, of Belle Vernon, died Thursday, January 13, 2005, in Jefferson Regional Hospital. He was born April 27, 1921 in Collinsburg, a son of the late Joseph and Johanna (Krec) Yowan. Prior to his retirement he was employed for over 40 years as a machinist by U. S. Steel Corp. - Irvin Works. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II serving as a Petty Officer First Class on board the USS Thomas Jefferson. He was stationed in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre where he was a part of the invasion of Normandy, N. Africa and Sicily and was decorated with a Silver Star. He was awarded a Bronze Star for being involved in the invasion of Okinawa while serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operation. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane (Boyd) Yowan, two daughters, Kathleen Zimmerman of Belle Vernon and Patricia Robertson of Belle Vernon; two grandsons, Jason Robertson and Gene Zimmerman, Jr. and wife, Colleen; a great granddaughter, Alyssa Zimmerman; three brothers, Frank Yowan of Turtle Creek; John Yowan and wife, Myrna of Ocean Isle Beach, N. Car.; Robert Yowan and wife, Betty of Monongahela and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Kenneth, and Warren Yowan; five sisters, Mary Bush, Anna Barrett, Jeanne Chalfant, Josephine and Frances Yowan. Interment in West Newton Cemetery.

Gladys A. Hill

Gladys A. (Packe) Hill, 87, of West Newton (Collinsburg), died Monday, January 10, 2005 at Mercy-Jeannette Hospital. Born April 19, 1917 in Yukon, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Taylor) Packe. She previously attended The Church in Sutersville. Gladys was an avid bingo player and enjoyed spending time at Four Seasons Camp Resort for the past 33 years. She will be missed by her pet dog Dolly. She is survived by a son, Wayne Hill and wife Dorothy of Kecksburg; a daughter, Linda Burtoft and husband Clifford of Collinsburg; a granddaughter, Diana Figiel and husband Michael; a great granddaughter, Hannah Ryan Figiel; a sister Louise Palicka of Darragh; two sisters-in-laws, Louise Packe, and Eleanor Packe. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Hill, Jr., in 1966; a son, Kenneth E. Hill; three brothers, Clyde, Elroy, and John Packe. Friends will be received at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME, INC., West Newton on Wednesday & Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 A.M. with Pastor Frank A. Rocco officiating. Interment in West Newton Cemetery.

Paul Novacek

Paul Novacek, 71, of Sutersville, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at home. He was born April 1, 1933, in Sutersville, a son of the late Andrew and Anna (Vilcheck) Novacek. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Enamel Products & Plating in McKeesport. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of VFW #7812, West Newton, WMBU Hall, Blythedale, and the L.O.O.M. #1358, Sutersville. He is survived by two sons, Paul D. Novacek and wife, Terri, of Suterville, and Terry L. Novacek and wife, Kathy, of North Huntingdon; three grandchildren, Tara, Ashley and Nathan Novacek; and a sister, Mary Zagar, of Sutersville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene (McCorkle) Novacek, in 1999; a sister, Ann Bernadowski; and six brothers, Steve, Andy, Alex, John, Frank and Mike Novacek. Friends will be received in the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., 901 Vine St., West Newton, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor John Lyons officiating. Interment in West Newton Cemetery.

Alice Anderson Wahlburg Nevel

Alice Anderson Wahlburg Nevel, age 87, of Conneautville, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at Rolling Fields Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 13, 1925 in Kane to George R. and Carrie Zelvina Hathaway Anderson.
She was formerly married to Neil Wahlburg; and then married Bernard A. Nevel, they both preceded her in death.
A 1943 graduate of Kane Area High School, she was a housewife and was formerly employed by Quality Market in Kane. She had attended the Presbyterian churck in Kane.
She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Wahlburg of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three sons, David, Gary and Jawn Wahlburg, all of Kane; one sister, Joan Barratt of Meadville; one brother, Robert Anderson of Tacoma, Wash.; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Bush; and one brother, Donald Anderson.
There will be a private service for immediate family officiated by Rev. Dr. Brian Jensen of the First Presbyterian Church of Meadville.
Interment will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Kane.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, PA 16335.
