Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Anthony J. Pellegrino

Anthony J. Pellegrino, 87, of Warren, died surrounded by his family at his residence, Friday morning, Oct. 5, 2012.
He was born June 19, 1925 in Sheffield, to the late Anthony and Angela Papalia Pellegrino. He has resided in Warren since 1960 and was formerly from Kane. He was a 1943 graduate of Sheffield High School.
In September 1943, he volunteered for military service and was inducted in the U.S. Army where he served as part of the 5th Army, liberating Rome. He was moved from Rome to Nancy, France where he was transferred into the the 7th Army making an amphibious landing on Aug. 15, 1944 in Southern France. His troop continued through all of France into Germany and finally to Salsbury, Austria. He was wounded in France and awarded the Purple Heart. He also earned the Presidential Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster, Silver Star, Bronze Star, European Theatre Medal with Arrow Head and Four Battle Stars, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, The Combat Infantry Badge and the French Citation.
After the service he enrolled at Buffalo State College and Edinboro State Teachers College where he obtained his business background. Tony built, owned and operated the former Warren Skating Rink, the former Lucky Strike Tavern and had worked at the former Pellegrino Grocery Store in Sheffield. In 1946 he processed canned peppers in his mother’s basement, in 1970 the business had outgrown itself and he purchased the former Walker Dairy where he owned and operated Pellegrino Foods and was in a retired state but still active in operations.
He was a member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, was a usher, served on the Stewardship Campaign and a member of the church Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Warren Knights of Columbus Council where he was a 4th degree member.
Family was the center of his whole life. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Angela Zucco Pellegrino whom he married June 10, 1950 at St. Callistus R.C. Church, Kane; his five children, Angie Clopp and husband, Tom, Mary Ann Church and husband, David, Anthony Pellegrino and wife, Anita, Tom Pellegrino and wife, Sally, all of Warren, and Rose Willis and husband, Mike of Carlisle; two sisters, Margaret Novosel of Kane and Angie Pellegrino of Warren; 11 grandchildren, Tom, Michael and Greg Clopp, Angela Foote, Anthony Pellegrino IV, Alex Anthony Pellegrino, Lauren Hokamp, Edwin Willis, Joseph, Maria and Thomas Pellegrino; two great-grandchildren, Jakey Clopp, Christopher Foote; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose D’Agostino, Mary Boisseau, and a infant sister, Mary Pellegrino.
Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where a vigil service will be conducted Sunday at 7:45 p.m. A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, 11 Russell Street, Warren, with Msgr. John Lucas, former Pastor as main celebrant and Fr. James Gutting, Pastor as concelebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by members of the Sheffield/Clarendon V.F.W. funeral detail and the U.S. Army. Those wishing to place memorials may do so through Hospice of Warren County, 2 Crescent Park, Warren, Pa. 16365 or Holy Redeemer Church Building Center Fund, 11 Russell Street, Warren, PA. 16365.

Johanna Good

Johanna Good, daughter of Kyle and Lorene Bowman Good of 498 Campbelltown Rd., died at birth at Warren General Hospital.
Johanna is survived, in addition to her parents, by two sisters, Taylor Good and Kristen Good at home; her maternal grandparents, James and Lois Bowman; and her paternal grandparents, Clair and Geraldine Good.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Glen Newswanger of the Bradford Mennonite Church, officiating. Burial will be at Bridgeview Cemetery.
The Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Rosemary L. Bloomquist

Rosemary L. Bloomquist, 89, of 324 Warren Rd., died, Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at WCA Hospital.
She was born May 14, 1923 in Sargeant, the daughter of Philip and Christina Amitone Scutella.
She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church in Frewsburg.
Rosemary was survived by her husband, James Bloomquist Sr., whom she married March 13, 1948 in Cumberland, Md.; five children, Cathy Lynn Swanson of Jamestown, N.Y., Mary Ann (late John) Sanborn, Rita (Kim) Kidd, David (Trudy) Bloomquist of Frewsburg, N.Y., and James Jr. (Roberta) Bloomquist of Dahlonega, Ga.; her grandchildren, Amy, Laurie, Vicki, John Jr. (Katherine) Sandborn, Phillip (Heather) Sandborn, Julie (John) Clark, Shelley Kidd, Emily Kidd, Richard (Wendy) Pecoraro, Robert (Sharon) Pecoraro, Jerad Karns, Jennifer (late Matt) Wentz, Jessie Karns, and William "'Bill" Fuller; multiple great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and a sister, Joan Scutella of Kane.
She was predeceased by an infant daughter; five sisters, Marie Gardner, Katherine Smith, Margaret Sevence, Eleanor Avenili, Florence Gustafson; and two brothers, William and Phillip Scutella.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg. Deacon Michael Lennon of St. James, Our Lady of Victory Oratory will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Kane.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Frances Elaine Andrews

Frances Elaine Andrews, 88, of New Port Richey, Fla. passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 at the Medical Center of Trinity in New Port Richey, Fla.
Born Frances Elaine Bailey in Kane, she graduated from Kane High School and married her high school sweetheart, Robert B. Andrews, in 1942. They raised their family in Warren, before retiring to New Port Richey in 1988.
Fran is survived by their children: Cheri Shattuck (Bruce) of Greenwood, Ind., William of Warren, and Scott of Jamestown, N.Y. She leaves four grandsons, four granddaughters and 15 great-grandchildren. She is survived as well by her only sister, Florence (Floss) Acker German of Smethport, and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her soulmate, Robert; her youngest son, Thomas; and an infant daughter, Sally Kay.
A celebration of her life will be held in Pennsylvania at the convenience of the family. Following their wishes, her ashes will be spread along with her beloved husband at a pre-selected location dear to them both.
The family requests memorial donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1645 West 8th St., Erie, Pa. 16505 in memory of Frances Andrews.

Pauline F. Coldren

Pauline F. Coldren, 96, E. Mill St., passed away Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, in the Bradford Nursing Pavilion.
Born Dec. 18, 1915, in Petrolia, N.Y., she was a daughter of Carroll M. and Lulu M. Wentworth Richardson. On Jan. 21, 1936, in Limestone, N.Y., she married Carl R. Coldren, who died July 9, 2001. They were married 65 years.
She was a longtime resident of the area and a graduate of the Bradford, High School, Class of “35”.
She was a member of the former Evangelical United Brethren Church of Coryville, Ladies Home Extension, Penn State University, and a former 4H leader.
Surviving are a son, Thomas C. (Ethel) Coldren of Smethport; two daughters, Anita P. (Richard) Grandinette of Bradford, Jane A. (David) Peterson of Kane; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; a son, Peter Z. Coldren; and two sisters, Lois Rink and Sarah Jane Bricko.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Lynn Ostrander, officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette.
Memorials can be made to the S.W. Smith Library, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Thomas E. Cunningham

Thomas E. Cunningham, 86, passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at the Lutheran Home at Kane
Born April 4, 1926, in Russell City, he was a son of the late Hearl and Ruth Bushley Cunningham. On April 29, 1978, in Sharon, he married Margaret Himes who survives.
Mr. Cunningham was employed by PennDOT, retiring in 1980. He had belonged to the Kane Country Club and was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge #130 and served as a past governor.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Karen Croyle of Corry; five stepchildren, Lyle Himes of Bradford, Gene Himes of Hazel Hurst, Randy Himes of Hazel Hurst, Cathy Paulson of Mt. Jewett, and Brenda O. Gilligan of Lantz Corners; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a niece, Jamie Scott of Greenville.
He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by a sister, Audrey Witherell.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
The Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald H. Davidson

Ronald H. Davidson, 85, formerly of Buffalo, N.Y., passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at the Corry Manor.
Born April 29, 1927, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Henry and Nora M. Black Davidson.
Before his retirement, Mr. Davidson was employed by Allied Van Lines and owned Ron’s Delivery Service.
During World War II, he served in Italy with the U.S. Army in Company C, 349th Infantry.
Surviving are a sister, Jeanne (John) Verolini of Kushequa; two nieces, Sally (Ken) Bernhard of Corry and Debbie (Steve) Wilner of Bristow, Va.; a great nephew, John Bernhard of Mt. Jewett; a great niece, Amy Bernhard of Corry; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by a twin brother, Robert H. Davidson in 1927; and his companion and caregiver, Janice Incardona.
Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Mt. Jewett where a funeral service, with military honors, will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Dr. Darrel Justh, Lutheran minister, officiating. Burial will be at Nebo Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Joanne Spence Lacy

Mrs. Joanne Spence Lacy, 83, of Sheffield, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 27, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. in the Rouse Warren County Home.
Joanne was born in Kane on April 12, 1929, to the late Winfield and Carrie Simpson Spence.
Mrs. Lacy enjoyed traveling with her husband D.L. in their Winnebago with their camping club. She also enjoyed baking, making the best pies ever, but her greatest love was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Employed at Sylvania, she retired after 25 years service.
Joanne is survived by her husband Datus L. Lacy whom she married Aug. 31, 1974; a daughter-in-law Karen Hulings, Warren; three grandchildren, Brielle Reitz and husband Jon, Greg Hulings, and Michael Hulings and wife Theresa; three great-grandchildren, Emily Reitz, Zachary Hulings, and David Hulings; and a nephew, Richard Ryan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert G. Hulings, in March of 1971; a son, Gary A. Hulings, in April of 2010; a sister, Pauline Spence Ryan; and a brother, Lyle Spence.
A funeral and committal service will be held Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at 12:00 p.m. noon in the Borden-Lloyd Funeral Home and burial will follow in Sheffield Cemetery. Reverend Marcus Briggs, Chaplain, Rouse Warren County Home will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the noon service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Warren General Hospital Cancer Center, Paws Along the River or a charity of choice.

M. Althea Weilacher

M. Althea Weilacher, 98, formerly of Owl's Nest and Yarnall Street in Kane, died late Friday evening, June 1, 2012 at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys.Born Jan. 16, 1914 in Masten, she was the daughter of Domer R. and Beatrice A. Danley Derr. On Aug. 30, 1931 in Clarendon, she married Daniel E. Weilacher, who died in 1973.Mrs. Weilacher was a nurse's aide for several years at the Kane Community Hospital, then later worked at Stackpole in Kane, also for several years.She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kane, a 4-H leader in the Highland Area, and was a volunteer for both the Friends' Memorial Public Library in Kane and the Kane Community Hospital, having logged 2, 500 hours for the latter.Surviving are two sons, LaRue Weilacher of Owl's Nest and Roger P. Weilacher of Pryor, Okla.; a daughter, Carolyn R. Yartz of Meadville; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.Preceding her in death, besides her husband and parents, is a brother, Raymond L. Derr.A funeral service will be held privately at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane with the rev. William LaVelle, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Kane.Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 112 Greeves St., Kane, PA 16735.

James E. Brinkley

James E. Brinkley, 88, a resident of The Lutheran Home at Kane, formerly of Smithfield Avenue, Kane, died early Friday morning, June 1, 2012 at the Kane Community Hospital.Born May 16, 1924 in Sigel, he was the son of Conrad and Mary Cyphert Brinkley. On May 10, 1952 in Ridgway, he married Donna M. Nearing, who died in 2009.Mr. Brinkley was Army sergeant in the 5th infantry during WWII, having served three years in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, three years in Italy, and also in Okinawa. Later, he worked at Stackpole in Kane for 28 years, retiring in 1986.He attended the First Church of God in Kane and was an avid gardener.Surviving are two sons, Melvin (Sandy) Brinkley and Mark Brinkley, both of Kane; two grandsons, Jeremy and Parker Brinkley of Kane, and great grandchildren Logan, Kelsie, Ava and Ethan Brinkley. Many nieces and nephews also survive.He was preceded in death, in addition to his wife and parents, by six sisters and six brothers.Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday, at which time a service will be held there with the rev. David Pflieger, chaplain of The Lutheran Home at Kane, officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to a church or charity of the donor's choice.

Irene Oddy Houpt

Irene Oddy Houpt, 94, of Allegheny Forest area passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at her residence.
Born June 28, 1917, in West Cowick, U.K., she was a daughter of Ben Ross and Beatrice Griscom Mercer Oddy. In 1969, in Philadelphia, she married Raul R. Houpt who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Houpt had been an administrative secretary for the British Consulate in Pittsburgh. She also had been employed by Walter H. Eagan, Co. Inc., Smith Koch, Co. Inc., Franklin Institute Research Center and Arvin Calspan, Inc. all in Philadelphia
At the age of seven, she was afflicted with Polio and had to wear metal braces for most of her life. Even though she had this illness during World War II, she served as an Air Warden in the town of Leeds, U.K. and she also was the lead secretary for the Allied Forces Air Warden Division, One night while going on patrol she had crossed a bridge which got bombed out by the Germans while she was on it.
She was a member of the Olivet Covenant Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia; the AARP and the DAV Auxiliary.
When the war was over, she came to America and gained her citizenship. She was a remarkable woman who remained steadfast in her ways and was loved very much by her whole family and all of those she met. The one thing she regretted was not being able to thank a WW II veteran for going over to Europe at their time of need and offering their supreme sacrifices for saving her homeland. Her family hopes this revelation will fulfill her dream.
Surviving are her son, Richard Oddy and his wife of Northwest; a niece, Helga Fry; a nephew, Alan S. Oddy; a grandniece, Jessica Fry; and two grandnephews, Darren Oddy and Leigh Oddy.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alan S. Oddy Sr.
Mrs. Houpt has donated her remains to the Humanity Gifts Registry.
Memorial donations may be made to the Olivet Covenant Presbyterian Church, 22nd & Mt. Vernon Streets, Philadelphia, PA 19130.
