Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Edith E. Mosier

Edith E. Mosier, 97, of 525 Flickerwood Rd., Kane, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012, at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born March 10, 1915, in Morrison, she was a daughter of John and Natalina Badiali Avenali. On June 24, 1935, in Allegany, N.Y., she married Jacob "Jake" Mosier who preceded her in death after 58 years of marriage.
Mrs. Mosier graduated as valedictorian from Kinzua High School in 1931 at the age of 16. As a full-time homemaker, she was a devoted wife, a dedicated mother, an excellent cook and an avid gardener. She had previously worked for a time at Sylvania in Emporium.
She was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church. She volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels and was always willing to give a helping hand. She will be missed by her friends and family.
Surviving are two sons, John (Patricia) Mosier and Robert (Paula) Mosier, all of Kane; a daughter, Mary Ann Lamb of Erie; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and husband; by a daughter, Sister Denise Mosier; four sisters, Teresa Giovagnoli, Viola Lorenzo, Anna Winhoven, Elizabeth Colle; and a brother, Peter Avenali.
Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Callistus Church with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at St. Callistus Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Mary L. Magnuson

Mary L. Magnuson, 90, formerly of 10 Pine Ave., Kane, died early Monday morning, May 28, 2012 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Aug. 10, 1921 in Kane, she was the daughter of Elno E. and Mattie E. Tate Johnson. On March 12, 1943 in Kane, she married David E. Magnuson, who died in 1988.
Mrs. Magnuson was a bookkeeper for the former Kane Federal Savings & Loan for over 25 years. She was a member of and very active at the First Baptist Church in Kane, where she served as the church's secretary in the 1950s and was treasurer for many years.
Surviving are a son, James E. Magnuson of Kane; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Magnuson of Kane, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death, besides her husband and parents, are a sister, Doris Fees, and brothers Robert, Thomas, Elno, Jr., and twins William and John Johnson.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane, where a service will be held at 2 p.m. with the rev. Bob Lynch, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Kane.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 257, Kane, PA 16735.

William R. Besecker

William R. Besecker, 92, of 130 Bayard St., Kane, died Saturday morning, May 26, 2012 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born May 14, 1920, he was the son of Edward and Margaret Jackson Besecker. In March of 1945, he married Evelyn B. Tinson, who died in 2000.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Besecker served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and later worked at Kane Hardwood as a supervisor for 20 years.
He was a member of Kane Lodge #566 F&AM and was a lifetime member of McKean County Chapter #72 of the D.A.V.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Kearney, and a son, William J. Besecker, both of Kane; four grandchildren, Malinda Oakes, Scott Lydic, Kathy Besecker and Krista Taylor; and eight great-grandchildren, Katie Danielson, Danielle Taylor, Jessica and Justin Taylor, Jasmine Lydic, Lauren and Drew Taylor and Abigail Oakes.
A graveside service will be held privately at Nebo Cemetery in Mt. Jewett with the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc., handling arrangements.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to a church or charity of the donor's choice.

Charles Edward Bonini

Charles Edward Bonini, age 81, of Franklinville, N.Y., of Route 16 died Friday, May 25, 2012, at the Pines in Machias following a long illness.
Born Aug. 2, 1930 in Kane, he was the son of William Bonini and Evelyn Lindblade. In 1954 he married Ray Etta Willman; she predeceased him in 1963. On Nov 23, 1963 in Bradford, he married Barbara Anderson, who survives.
“Charlie” was a 1948 graduate of Mt. Jewett High School and worked as a self-employed logging industry and associated with the Johnsonburg paper mills. Many years were followed in career management in the hospitality service industry. He participated in basketball and baseball in earlier years and he loved bowling and golf in his later years. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed leisurely walks with his loving dogs.
Surviving besides his wife Barabara Bonini (Anderson) of 48 years is a son, Tony Bonini of Lakewood, Ohio; four daughters, Darlene Degnan, Karen Frank, Sandi Chapman, all of Rochester, N.Y., and beloved daughter Mary Nella Bonini of Franklinville; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, William Bonini, of Mt. Jewett.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Rayetta Bonini (Willman), and by a sister, Patti O’Connell.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Franklinville Baptist Church with Rev. Pete Spear officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Prospect Cemetery in Franklinville, N.Y. Memorials may be made to The Pines in Machias, P.O. Box 310, Machias, NY 14101.

David C. Bliss Jr.

David C. Bliss, Jr., 64, of 287 Spring St. in East Kane, died Thursday morning at the Kane Community Hospital.Born Aug. 6, 1947 in Kane, he was the son of David and Thelma J. Neely Bliss. On Aug. 5, 1970 in Seoul, South Korea, he married Okye Young Kim, who died in 1992. Preceded in death by his stepfather, James L. Clark.Mr. Bliss was a Sergeant 1st Class in the Army during the Vietnam War, giving 23 years of service.He was a member of the VFW #1132 in Kane.Surviving are his mother, Thelma Clark of Kane; two daughters, Kim Tennermann of Ramstein, Germany and Judy Cook of Layton, Utah; two brothers, Edward Bliss of Kane and Daniel Bliss in Colorado; two sisters, Sandra Brinkley of Kane and Linda Swanson of James City; a stepsister, Jackie Pribble of Perham, Maine, plus two granddaughters, Ainsley and Zoe Cook. Several nieces and nephews also survive.He was preceded in death, in addition to his wife, by his father.Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with the rev. Chad Troup, pastor of The First Church of God in Kane, officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery near Kane.Memorial contributions may be made to a church or charity of the donor's choice.

Douglas Eugene Dilley

Douglas Eugene Dilley, 32, of Adamsville, Ala., formerly of Kane, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Baptist Medical Center.He was born July 30, 1979, and was an electrician, employed by M&A Electric.Visitation was held Sunday at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home in Dora, Ala.Survivors include his wife Stephanie Dilley of Adamsville; parents, Richard and Christine Dilley of Kane; sister, Lori (Wesley) Stevens of Edwards, N.Y.; brother, Travis (Shauna) Dilley of Bradford; father- and mother-in-law, Bobby and Liz Barnes of Quinton; brother-in-law, Bobby Barnes Jr. (Amy) of Jasper; sister-in-law, Amanda (Richard) Moates of Clanton; seven nephews; several aunts, uncles cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.He was preceded in death by his brother, Jason Scott Dilley.Friends may call on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday with the rev. Chad Troup, pastor of the First Church of God, Kane, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.The family of Douglas E. Dilley will also be receiving friends on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., when a service will be held at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc., Kane.

Dale Alan Ostrander

Dale Alan Ostrander, 52, of 129 Lincoln St., Kane, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie as the result of an accident outside the Kane Community Hospital. He was born on July 15, 1959 in Bradford, son of the late Clendon and Evelyn Spegnardo Ostrander. He married Kristine E. Bowley on Oct. 7, 1994, she survives. He resided in Kane since 1992. He graduated from Bradford Area High School in 1978 and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1982 following two years of study at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and two years at the University of Pittsburgh main campus.He was involved with the St. Ann's Church in Wilcox. He was a passionate Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan. He was employed by the Kane Community Hospital as a respiratory therapist for 17 years. He had been employed by APRIA Home Health Care of Bradford for 10 years.Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Mitchell Jin Ostrander at home, whom he adored; two brothers, Daniel Ostrander of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Blair Ostrander of Smethport; two sisters, Christine, Mrs. John Robare of Altamonte, Fla., and Christine Ostrander of Coudersport; a mother-in-law, Barbara Bowley of Wilcox; and a sister-in-law, Lisa, Mrs. James Martin of Ridgway.A Mass of Christian Burial for Dale A. Ostrander will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. David J. Wilson, Pastor. Interment will be at the Wilcox Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home at 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, on Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.If desired, memorial contributions should be made to the Kane Community Hospital Cafeteria Fund.

Judy A. Wennerstrom

PORT ALLEGANY- Judy A. Wennerstrom, 73, of Route 6, passed away Monday (Jan. 14, 2013) in the Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born October 25, 1939, in Port Allegany, she was a daughter of Neil and Louella Abbott McKervey. On Apr. 16, 1958, in New Paltz, NY, she married Richard C. â€sPonchâ€t Wennerstrom, who survives.

Mrs. Wennerstrom had worked for Pierce Glass Co. and later with Stan's Quality Shop both of Port Allegany.

She was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, Class of 1957.

She was a member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Port Allegany. She loved crafting, gardening, and most of all, time with her grandchildren. Both Judy and Ponch enjoyed visiting Kersey PA, to listen to country western music.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Richard, are two sons, Michael J. Wennerstrom of Mt. Jewett, Scott A. (Karen) Wennerstrom of Plano, TX; a daughter, Julie A. (Tom) Jeffers of Austin; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; two brothers, Gary â€sBunkâ€t (Peg) McKervey of Port Allegany, Kenneth McKervey of Witchata, KS; and a sister, Joy (Jim) Barr of Roulette; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Nancy Davis Simar of Port Allegany.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (Jan. 18, 2013) with Rev. Lawrence Scofield, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.

Memorials can be made to the Port Area Ambulance Service or a charity of the donor's choice.

Emily I. Schena

PORT ALLEGANY-Emily I. Schena, 21, of Route 155, passed away Monday (Jan. 14, 2013) as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born July 8, 1991, in Coudersport, she was a daughter of Gregg A. and Deborah Laney Schena.

She was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, class of 2009. She would have graduated from Clarion University, May 2013.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Port Allegany.

She was a cheerleader, peer helper, pianist, member of Show Choir, and Athlete of the Year 2009 in high school. She also was active in 4 H. While attending Clarion University, she was a member of Delta Zeta, and on the dean's list, majoring in Speech Pathology.

Surviving besides her father, Gregg and Holly Miller, are her mother, Deborah Schena of Leroy, NY, grandma, Bert Thurlow of Alamogordo, NM; a sister and best friend, Heather Schena of Port Allegany; a half-brother, and three half-sisters; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandma, Rachel McCloskey and grandpa Harold Laney.

Friends will be received from 11a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 19, 2013) in the United Methodist Church, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Randall Headley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Portage Valley Cemetery, Wrights.

Memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church or the McKean County SPCA.

Stephen E. “Steve” Dynda

COUDERSPORT- Stephen E. “Steve” Dynda, 73, of Maple Lane, passed away Thursday (Jan. 17, 2013) in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.

Born June 9, 1939, in Coudersport, he was a son of Joseph and Elsie Austin Dynda. On December 22, 1990, Coudersport, he married Claudia L. Peno, who survives.

Mr. Dynda was employed with National Fuel Gas Co. for several years, before his retirement.

He was a veteran having served with the US Marine Corp.

He was a graduate of the Scotland School for Veteran Children, Chambersburg, PA.

He was a lifetime resident of the area and a member of the Coudersport American Legion.

He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and digging leeks.

Surviving in addition his wife, Claudia, are a son, Jeff Dynda of Martinsburg, WV; three daughters, Nancy J. (Herb) Gular of Roulette, Lori S. (Greg) Andruchowsky of Ulysses, PA, Jenna L. (Brian) Switzer of Erie, PA; a stepson, Jerrod J. Renko of Shinglehouse; 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn (Joseph) Boyd of Coudersport; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Glenda Dynda, two grandsons and a granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (Jan. 21, 2013) in the Austin United Methodist Church, with Rev. Steven Small, pastor, and Kathryn Boyd co-officiating.
Burial will be in Gilmore Cemetery, Sinnemahoning, PA.

A military service will be conducted by the Potter County Honor Guard immediately following the funeral, at the church.

William J. Chelgreen, Jr.

PORT ALLEGANY- William J. Chelgreen, Jr., 62, of Two Mile Rd., passed away Friday (Jan. 25, 2013) in UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA.

Born May 25, 1950, in Olean, NY, he was a son of William J. and Norine R. Holcomb Chelgreen. On October 26, 1974, in Port Allegany, he married Gloria J. Shelley, who survives.

Mr. Chelgreen was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, Class of 1968.

He was employed by Saint-Gobain Container Co. (now Verallia) before having to retire in 2003.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with US Air Force, 391st Supply Squadron.

He was a member of the Port Allegany Alliance Church, where he had served as an elder, board member, and trustee.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Gloria, are two sons, Shaun C. (Amy) Chelgreen of Roanoke, VA, Mark A. Chelgreen of Wilkes-Barre, PA; a granddaughter, Kaia M. Chelgreen; a sister, Linda A. Thielges of Port Allegany; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Tuesday (Jan. 29, 2013) at 11 a.m. in the Port Allegany Alliance Church, with Rev. Dale Detweiler, officiating. Burial will be in Grimes Cemetery, Port Allegany.

A military service will be conducted by the Port Allegany Honor Guard immediately following the service, at the church.

Memorials can be made to the Port Area Ambulance Service or the S.W. Smith Library.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
