Edward J. Janiszewski

SMETHPORT-Edward J. Janiszewski, 67, of N. Open Brook Rd., passed away Friday (Feb. 1, 2013) in the Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born October 20, 1945, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was a son of John A. and Mary Hodun Janiszewski. On Oct. 16, 1982, in Eldred, PA, he married B. Diana Bee, who survives.

Edward was a retired Pennsylvania State Trooper who was stationed in Kane, PA. He retired in 1992, after 20 years of service. He later worked with the McKean County Sheriff's Department and most recently as a security guard in the McKean County courthouse.

Mr. Janiszewski was a veteran, having served with the US Air Force, during the Viet Nam War.

He was a resident of the area for 44 years coming from Wilkes-Barre, PA. He graduated from Coughlin High School, class of 1963.

He was a member of the Retired State Police Association of Pennsylvania.

Edward enjoyed hunting, especially with his family. He also enjoyed most sports, and was an avid NASCAR fan and an NFL San Francisco 49 Niner's fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Diana, are two sons, Richard S. (Jennifer) Lowman of Port Allegany, Justin E. (Samatha) Lowman of Bradford; two daughters, Angela S. (Kevin) Anthony of Bradford, Bobbi Jo (Eric Pearson) Baker of Port Allegany; 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Robert (Marsha) Janiszewski of Ft. Wayne, IN, Thomas (Dianne) Janiszewski, Joseph Janiszewski and Michael Janiszewski all of Wiles-Barre, PA; and a sister, Mary (Richie) Stencik of Wilkes-Barre, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Anthony and John Janiszewski; and a sister, Joanna Janiszewski.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany. A funeral service will be held in the United Methodist Church, Port Allegany, at 11 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 5, 2013) with Rev. Randall Headley, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.

A military service will be conducted by the Port Allegany Honor Guard at the church, immediately following the funeral.

Merle G. Johnson, Attorney at Law

PORT ALLEGANY- Merle G. Johnson, 89, of Route 155, passed away at his home, Tuesday (Feb. 5, 2013).

Born October 29, 1923, in Bradford, he was a son of Emery H. and Alma Holly Johnson. On June 17, 1967, in Syracuse, NY, he married Elaine D. Douvlos, who survives. They were married 46 years.

Mr. Johnson was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, Class of 1942, which he was valedictorian.

He operated a trucking business for 10 years, before entering the Cart Care Floor Cleaning business.

In 1963, after being out of school for 21 years, he decided to seek a college degree. He enrolled in Syracuse University, and received his BA degree in Liberal Arts, and in 1969, he received his Juris Doctor Degree in Law, from Syracuse University.

He was a member of the New York State Bar Association, Cattaraugus County Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association, McKean County Bar Association, American Bar Association, and Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity. He was also a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

Merle was past president of the Port Allegany Rotary Club, member of the board of directors of the First National Bank, Port Allegany for 29 years, McKean-Potter Farmers Farm Bureau, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association for 50 years, McKean Aviation Association where he was secretary and treasurer. He was a member of the S. Bus. Men's Association. He was solicitor for Liberty Township for many years.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Elaine, are a son, Michael G. (Nanette) Johnson of Chicago. IL; three daughters, Susie Darlene (William) Kelley of Griffin, GA, Nancy J. McGuire of Chattanooga, TN, and Teri A. (Luke) Summa of Central FLorida; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Larraine Klesa Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Harold Johnson.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday and 1-2 p.m. Sunday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Randall Headley, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.

Memorials can be made to Potter County Hospice or the donor's choice.

Donna J. Bosworth

PORT ALLEGANY- Donna J. Bosworth, 73, of Chestnut St., passed away Sunday (Jan. 6, 2013) at her home, after a lengthy illness.

Born May 26, 1939, in Liberty Township, PA, she was a daughter of Edward and Mary McGill McElwee. On January 29, 1957, in Port Allegany, she married Eugene L. Bosworth, who died Aug. 15, 2008.

Mrs. Bosworth was a lifetime resident of the area and a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Port Allegany.

She was an avid antique dealer along with her husband. She loved going to Florida during the winter months, and enjoyed crocheting and crafting.

Surviving are two daughters, Krisann L. (Tigee) Robey of Amissville, VA, Pamela J. Aldrich of Eldred; 6 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward â€sJimâ€t McElwee of Smethport, Paul McElwee of Olean, NY; two sisters, Elizabeth â€sBettyâ€t Corah of Port Allegany, and Maryann (Richard) Losey of Austin; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Eugene, and a daughter, Cynthia M. Spearen.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2013) in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2013) in St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, with Rev. James Campbell, pastor officiating.

Burial will be in St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Port Allegany.

A scriptural wake service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to the Port Area Ambulance Service or S.W. Smith Library Building Fund.

Evelyn M. Rhinehart

PORT ALLEGANY- Evelyn M. Rhinehart, 84, of Roper Rd., passed away Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2013) in the Charles Cole Mem. Hospital, Coudersport.

Born July 14, 1928, in Port Allegany, she was a daughter of Linford C. and Dorothy Lillibridge Acre. She married Ward Wood Mar. 28, 1948. Later she married James B. Rhinehart, who preceded her in death.

Evelyn had worked at Smethport Specialities and most recently with Culver Bus Garage as a driver, before her retirement.

She was a lifetime resident of the area and attended Port Allegany High School.

Surviving are a daughter, Necia L. Wood of Port Allegany; two sons, Michael M. (Diane) Wood of Sansaba, TX, and Larry D. Wood of Georgetown, TX; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clifton (Jackie) Acre of Orange Park, FL, Carlton Acre of Kingsland, GA; a sister, Frances (Glenn) Ludwig of Sanborn, NY; longtime friend, Barbara Culver, with whom she resided; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, twin brothers, Ronald and Donald Acre, Lawrence Acre; and a sister, Fern Dalaba.

There will be no visitation.

There will be a celebration of life service held at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.

Elizabeth B. Cochran

Mrs. Elizabeth B. Cochran, 78, of Ludlow, passed into the next life at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010 at Jamison Hospital, New Castle, following a one month illness.
A lifelong area resident, Elizabeth was born Feb. 27, 1932 in Muzett to the late Lloyd and Luella Irwin.
She worked various jobs including the shirt factory in Warren, insurance agent, and helped run the store in Ludlow. Elizabeth was able to travel throughout the world which she loved. A member of Mission Covenant Church, Ludlow, she had recently moved to Pulaski to help raise her grandson.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death in June of 1981 by her husband, Edwin C. Cochran, whom she married in May of 1952 in Warren; two brothers, Robert and Lloyd; and one sister, Katherine.
She is survived by two sons, Edwin Cochran of Chantilly, Va. and Terry Cochran of Pulaski; three grandchildren, Rachael, James, and Jennifer; four sisters, Pauline Miller of Sheffield, Margaret Fox of Ludlow, Edith Albaugh of Warren, and Esther Jones, also of Warren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral and committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 at the Borden-Lloyd Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Lynch, pastor, Ludlow Mission Covenant Church will officiate and burial will be in Roses Cemetery, Marienville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010 from 6-8 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Evert E. Swanson

Evert Eugene Swanson, 87, formerly of 345 E. Hemlock St., died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born January 18, 1923, in West Kane, he was a son of the late Oscar Albert and Ruth Peterson Swanson. On Dec. 13, 1947, in Kane, he married Hazel Cochran who preceded him in death.
Mr. Swanson served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant. During his service, he took part in 35 combat missions and received the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters.
Before his retirement he was employed as a senior technician for Tennessee Gas Pipeline. He belonged to the American Legion Post #250 and was a past member of the Kane Elks. He also was a former member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda (James) Bailey of Plantation, Fla.; two sons, William (Terri) Swanson and David (Sheila) Swanson, both of Kane; six grandchildren, Nina Zaretzky, Brooke Creamer, William Swanson, Jenna Swanson, Kylie Swanson, David Swanson Jr.; and a sister, Shirley (Howard) Rightenour of Lakeland, Fla.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his wife and parents, by two brothers, Russell Swanson and Floyd Swanson; and a sister, Isabelle Swanson.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. noon at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. where funeral services will follow with the Rev. W. Craig Smith, pastor of the Mt. Jewett and Hazel Hurst United Methodist Churches, officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and sent to Cummings Funeral Home, Inc., 151 Greeves St., Kane, PA 16735. Michael R. Zampogna

Michael R. Zampogna, 87, of 626 Dawson St., died Tuesday, Dec.21, 2010, at his residence.
Born Jan. 1, 1923, in Westline, he was a son of Joseph and Theresa Costerella Zampogna. On March 23, 1946, in England, he married Mary Eileen Morris who survives.
Mr. Zampogna had been a service repairman for Sears for many years after which he started his own business, Mike’s Home Repair Services.
During World War II, he served in the Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 715 and the VFW Lodge # 1132, both in Kane. As a member of St. Callistus Church, he served as an usher for many years.
He played drums in the Rolick’s Polka Band and also coached Little League Baseball for several years. He was also an avid fisherman.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Eileen, are two daughters, Maureen (Dennis) Naiberg and Bernadette Zampogna, both of Mesa, Ariz.; two sons, Kevin Zampogna of Bradford and Terence (Debra) Zampogna of Eden, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frederick “Fritz” (Marjorie) Zampogna of Kane and Joseph (Janice) Zampogna of Clarence Center, N.Y.; three sisters, Teresa Zampogna and Donna (David) Mann, both of Erie and Angeline (John) McCandless of Kane.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, are two sisters, Josephine Manfrey and Mary Chiesa; and three brothers, Tony Zampogna, Harry Zampogna and Dominic Zampogna.
Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Callistus Catholic Church with The Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at St. Callistus Cemetery.

Darcey J. Kohler

Darcey J. Kohler, 59, formerly of 115 ˝ Spring St., Johnsonburg, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Sena Kean Manor.
Born Aug. 10, 1951, in Wilcox, he was a son of Otto and Helen Edwards Kohler. On Oct. 25, 1977, in Bradford, he married Patricia Heffner who preceded him in death.
Mr. Kohler was active at Grace Lutheran Church while living in Bradford.
Surviving are a brother, Randee Kohler of Lebanon; a sister, Leanna (Bill) Schleicher of Kane; a son; and several nieces and nephews, including Kimberlee Schleicher Ferragine.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mickey Kohler.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be made to Friends Memorial Public Library, 230 Chase St., Kane, PA 16735.

Janet R. Brush

Janet R. Brush, 82, of 529 Haines St., died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at Kane Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 11, 1928, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Helen Bloomquist Brush. On Aug. 14, 1950, in Kane, she married Willard Brush who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Brush was a member of the First Baptist Church where she played the organ for many years.
Surviving are two sons, Willard (Deb) Brush Jr. of Lakeland, Fla. and Lee (Ann) Brush of Powhatan, Va.; two daughters, Cindy (Samuel) Oyler and Ruth (Lester) Reinard, both of Kane; nine grandchildren, including Faith Fetterman, who was also her caregiver; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Edward Brush and a grandson, Trevor Carlson.
Family and friends may attend a memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Kane with the Rev. Paul Smith, interim pastor, officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Sena Kean Manor, Marvin St., Smethport, PA 16749.

Raymond R. “Ray” Ciprich

Raymond R. “Ray” Ciprich, 81, a resident of the Golden Living Center on Water Street in Warren for the past three years died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at his residence.
Born Dec. 16, 1929, in Ludlow, he was a son of the late Peter and Verna Baronak Ciprich.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed for a time in Korea and Japan.
He worked his entire life at the National Forge in Irvine, retiring in 1984 to take care of his parents who were in ill health.
Ray took great pleasure in doing yard work and taking care of his property in Ludlow.
Surviving are one sister, Lillian Johnson of Conneaut Lake; and two brothers, John (Caroline) Ciprich of Erie and George (Delores) Ciprich of Rock Hill, S.C..
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Ciprich and Peter Ciprich; and three sisters, Anne Panko, Rose Pochatko and Virginia Peterson.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Harold J. Traub

Harold J. Traub, 86, of Pleasant Drive, Warren, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at Warren Manor.
Mr. Traub was born July 21, 1924, in Warren, the son of the late Conrad and Mildred Swanson Traub Sr. Harold was employed at the National Forge Company for over 35 years and had also worked as a baker at Anderson's Bakery. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, cross country skiing club, hiking club, and the Super Seniors League at Cable Hollow Golf Course.
He is survived by a wife, Emily Pearl Latshaw Traub and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Conrad N. Traub Jr., and a sister, Louis Elaine Traub Himes.
Friends will be received at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010 from 7-9 p.m., and in the church parlors for one hour prior to a funeral service to be held at the First United Methodist Church, 200 Market Street, Warren, PA on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m., with Dr. Jeffrey D. Sterling, pastor, First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Warren County Memorial Park.
Memorial may be made to the Warren Cancer Center, 2 Crescent Park, Warren, PA 16365.
