Gerald E. "Gene" Rote

Gerald E. "Gene" Rote, 83, of Duke Center died Wednesday, Oct. 13, in Edinboro Manor following a long illness.
Born Aug. 27, 1927, in Cranberry, Venango County, he was a son of Gerald A. And Margaret (Laughner) Rote. On Dec. 6, 1974, in the Duke Center United Methodist Church, he married Patricia Myrick Cooper, who passed away on Sept. 8, 1984. On Oct. 26, 1991, in the First Baptist Church, Olean, he married Mary Joan Houben Crocker Tomasick, who survives.
Mr. Rote was a 1945 graduate of Otto High School in Duke Center and was a lifelong resident of Duke Center. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U. S. Navy in Washington, D.C. He had been in the local oil fields in production for the South Penn Oil Co., Bradford. For 20 years, prior to his retirement in 1984, he had been employed as an equipment operator for National Fuel of Bradford.
For 20 years he spent his winters in Zephyrhills, Fla. He was an active member of the Duke Center United Methodist Church and the First Baptist Church of Olean. He was a member of the Northern Star Masonic Lodge No. 555 of Duke Center, the Coudersport Consistory and the Scottish Rite.
He loved music, and for many years he was active in gospel singing in the area with West Coast and the Cunningham girls. He enjoyed photography and coin collecting.
Surviving in addition to his wife, is one son, William R. Rote of Bradford; one daughter, Paulette (Ray) Phillips of Kane; four stepsons, Rick (Kathy) Crocker of Edinboro, Barry (Denise) Crocker of Atlanta, Ga., Donald Cooper and William Cooper; two stepdaughters, Barbara Cooper and Minda Cooper; two grandchildren, Ryan (Stephanie) Phillips and Rory (Monica) Phillips; two great-granddaughters, Kendall and Samantha Phillips; five stepgrandchildren, Justin (Jacklyn), Jared, Jessica, Andrew, and Janell Crocker, and several cousins.
Friends may call on Saturday at the Duke Center United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m., at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Gary Sheesley, pastor, officiating, and Anthony Evans, co-officiating. Burial will follow in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette.
The family requests memorials be made to the Otto Ambulance fund or a church of the donor's choice.

Stuart E. "Andy" Prutzman III
Stuart E. "Andy" Prutzman III, 75, of Allentown, died Friday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Margaret (Neupauer) Prutzman. They observed their 47th wedding anniversary in November.
Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Stuart E. and Pearl (Royer) Prutzman.
He was a member of Emmanuel Assembly of God Church, Allentown.
Prutzman was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a graduate of Lafayette College.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a son David of Allentown; a daughter Andrea, wife of John Fritz of Lafayette Hill, Montgomery County; a brother Richard of Jim Thorpe; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Michael Evetushick
Mrs. Anna M. Evetushick, 65, of Bethlehem, died Saturday in the St. Luke Hospital, Fountain Hill, Bethlehem. She was the wife of Michael Evetushick. They were married for 46 years.
Born in Lansford, she was a daughter of the late John and Catherine (Hornacek) Mihalovic.
She was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Kathleen, wife of Charles H. Guldeman, and Ann Marie, wife of John V. Reinhart, both of Bethlehem; two sisters, Mary Goida of Saylorsburg and Josephine Hutta of Stroudsburg; and four grandchildren.

Dale E. Beck
Dale E. Beck, 54, of Berlinsville, died Friday near Lehigh Gap.
He worked for the American Nickeloid Company, Walnutport, for 22 years before retiring in 1989, and previously had been employed by the former Lehigh Valley Dairy, Allentown. He was also a part-owner and operator of Becky's Drive-In Theatre, Berlinsville.
Born in Allentown, he was a son of Mrs. Alice (Hartzell) Beck, with whom he resided, and the late William D. Beck.
He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Cherryville.
Surviving in addition to his mother are a daughter Wanda, wife of Kevin Hogan of Easton; two sons, Brian of Palmerton and Scott of West Chester; two brothers, Darrell of Bethlehem and Dennis of Walnutport; two sisters, Mary, wife of Dr. Joseph Mayberry of Lancaster, and Cynthia, wife of Dean Deepe of Northampton; and two grandsons.

Russell M. Bruch
Russell M. Bruch, 78, of 405 Main St., Tatamy, died Saturday in ManorCare Health Services, Palmer Township. He was the husband of Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Buzzard) Bruch. They were married for 51 years.
An auto mechanic, he owned and operated the former Russ's Garage, Freemansburg, for many years before retiring in 1984.
Born in Bath, he was a son of the late Clyde and Agnes (Kichline) Bruch.
He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Tatamy.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter, Barbara D., wife of Donald Green of Tatamy; four sisters, Esther Ziegler and Gladys Sutton, both of Lehighton, Edith Werkheiser of Bath and Betty Roth of Trexlertown; a brother Warren of Zionsville; and two granddaughters.

Mrs. William Beck
Mrs. Alice E. Beck, 70, of Gilbert, died Saturday in her home. She was the wife of William Beck. They were married for 52 years.
She was a machine operator for Scotties Fashions, Little Gap, and previously had been a buyer for Wyckoff's, Stroudsburg, and a secretary for Morgan Stanley, New York City.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late George and Josephine (Kase) Weisser.
She was a member of Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville.
Mrs. Beck was a former Girl Scout and Brownie leader in New Jersey.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Susanne, wife of Llewellyn Jones of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Lynn, wife of Randy Halstead of Canadensis; a brother George of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. Warren Tudor
Mrs. Helen A. Tudor, 58, of 347 Hudsondale St., Weatherly, died Sunday afternoon in her home. She was the wife of Warren Tudor.
She moved to Weatherly following her retirement as activities director for the Plaza Nursing Home in Elizabeth, N.J.
Born in Elizabeth, she was a daughter of the late William and Anne (Sparks) Cotton.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Weatherly, and a former member of the American Legion Post 360 Ladies Auxiliary, also of Weatherly.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Walter Garbarczyk of Winter Park, Fla., and Thomas Murphy of White Haven; a brother, William J. of Weatherly; three sisters, Kathleen Burbage of Roselle Park, N.J., Jo Ann Hartmann of Matawan, N.J., and Sally Seamon of Clark, N.J.; three grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Clive F. Wentz
Clive F. Wentz, 64, of 409 Pine Swamp Road, Kempton, died Thursday in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the husband of Rae F. (Jones) Wentz. They observed their 45th wedding anniversary in November.
He was a machinist for the Z.E.B. Machine Company, Leesport, Berks County, since 1989, and previously had worked for the former Allen Sherman Hoff Pump Company, Hamburg, from 1973-89.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Theodore and Thelma (Goodman) Lentz.
He was a member of the Kempton Rod and Gun Club.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Rodney F. of Kutztown and Michael F. of Germansville; three daughters, Andrea F., wife of Dale R. Hillegass of Alburtis, Leslie F., wife of Scott R. Mertz of Kutztown, and Kay A., wife of Andrew G. Schlaner of Kempton; a brother William of Hamburg; four sisters, Fern, wife of Lawrence O'Connell in California, Mrs. Barbara Sterner of Leesport, Patricia, wife of LeRoy Ramer of Mohnton, Berks County, and Shirley, wife of Christopher Kane of Shillington, Berks County; 10 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Pearl M. Evans
Mrs. Pearl Marie Evans, 81, formerly of 144 W. Kline Ave., Lansford, died Saturday in the Kresly Nursing Home, Philadelphia. She was the widow of Harold W. Evans.
Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Estelle Otto.
A member of English Congregational Church, Lansford, she graduated from the former Lansford High School.
She is survived by a son, Harold W. Evans of Wynnewood; and a grandson.
The Holmes-Griffiths Funeral Home, 200 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, is in charge of arrangements.

velyn M. Kennell
Evelyn M. (Lilly) Kennell, 86, of 2529 Gap View road, Slatington, died Friday at the residence of her daughter, Nancy E., wife of Lee Henninger. She was the widow of Gordon Kennell.
Born in Treichlers, she was a daughter of the late George Lilly and Mabel (Wentz) Snyder and the step-daughter of the late Adam Snyder.
She was a registered nurse at Palmerton Hospital for 32 years, retiring in 1963.
She was a member of Christ UCC Church, Walnutport, where she also belonged to the Ladies' Guild.
She was a 1931 graduate of the former Palmerton Hospital School of Nursing.
Surviving with her daughter are two grandchildren.
The Harding-Fox Funeral Home, 25-27 North Second St., Slatington, is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth B. Lutz
Elizabeth B. Lutz, 87, of 610 Hazard Road, Palmerton, died Thursday in the Palmerton Hospital. She was the widow of Theodore Lutz.
Born in Albrightsville, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Emma (Getz) Smith.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty A. Shupp of Slatington and Eileen A. Lutz of Allentown; two sons, Earl F. Lutz of West Newton and Robert L. Lutz of Lehighton. Also 23 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Emma Smale, and a son, Russell C. Lutz.
The Campton Funeral Home, Inc., 525 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary L. Breiner
Mary L. Breiner, 82, of 244 Penn St., Tamaqua, died Friday in Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale. She was the widow of Jack Breiner, who died in 1987.
Born in Tamaqua, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Albertson) Schwab.
She was a member of St. Joh U.C.C., Tamaqua.
Surviving are three daughters, Ellen, wife of Harry Hollenbach, Jacksonville, Fl., Mrs. Jane Wilson, Tamaqua, and Jean, wife of Edwin Hill, with whom she resided; one son, Gary L. Breiner of Lansford; a daughter, Gloria, wife of Edwin Hill, with whom Mrs. Breiner resided; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth McLaughlin, Tamaqua and Jean, wife of Joseph Pelcheck, Lansford. Also six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Bruce, who died in 1942, and Robert, who passed away in 1966.
The Jon M. Zizelmann Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Betty J. Strohl
Mrs. Betty J. Strohl, 66, of HC-2, Box 2549, Unionville, Jim Thorpe, died Thursday morning in her home. She was the widow of David Russell Strohl, who died in 1989.
She last worked as a personal care assistant for the Rau Residential Care Home, Unionville.
Born in Unionville, she was a daughter of Mrs. Amelia (Dotter) Meckes of Unionville and the late Francis Meckes.
The deceased was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Penn Forest Township.
Surviving in addition to her mother are four daughters, Betty, wife of Clayton Steigerwalt of Jim Thorpe, Darlene, wife of Dennis Moatz of Allentown, and Sandra, wife of Gerald Green, and Kathy Schafer, both of Jim Thorpe; two brothers, Edward of Jim Thorpe and Wilbur of Slatington; six grandchildren and a great-grandson.
The Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe, is in charge of the arrangements.
