Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Joseph Lawson
Joseph Lawson, 87, of 246 Orwigsburg St., Tamaqua, died Friday at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Margaret (Pierce) Lawson.
Born in Maizeville, he was a son of the late Martin and Margaret (Pompolis) Lawson.
He was employed as a shovel oiler for strip mining equipment.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Lawson was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Tamaqua.
He also was a member of the Tamaqua VFW and the South Ward Fire Company in Tamaqua.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph B. and John J., both of Tamaqua; a daughter, Phyllis A. Kranch of Tamaqua; a sister, Natalie Lapinski of Schuylkill Haven; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Francis X.; a daughter, Lorraine R. Lawson, and three sisters, Mrs. Rholda McBride, Mrs. Mary Hess, and Mrs. Blanche West.
The E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

John D. "Jack" Jones
John D. "Jack" Jones, 62, of 7355 Pa. Route 873, Slatington, died Friday at his residence. He was the husband of Theresa E. (Oncheck) Jones. They celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on April 25.
Jones owned and operated Jones Truck Sales, Slatington, for the past 38 years.
Born in Slatington, he was a son of Ethel (Snyder) Jones of Slatington and the late John D. Jones.
He was a member of the New Jerusalem Church, West Orange, N.J.
He also was a member of the Slatington Loyal Order of the Moose and the Emerald Fire Company.
Surviving with his widow and mother are a daughter, Kathy Sue, of Lehighton; a brother, James, of Slatington; a sister, Doris Moore, of Slatington, and one granddaughter.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family from the Hardin-Fox Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St., Slatington.

Margaret A. Howell
Margaret A. Howell, 87, of 323 Iron St., Lehighton, died Friday in the Gnaden Huetten Nursing and Convalescent Center, Lehighton. She was the widow of Theodore H. Howell, who died Nov. 18, 1979.
The Kenneth N. Phifer Funeral Home, Third & Alum St., Lehighton, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Robert A. Kabana
Robert A. "Rudy" Kabana, 74, of New Ringgold R.1, died Thursday in the Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale. He was the husband of Ruth (Stemmler) Kabana. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 15.
He was mechanic for the former Dudley Motors, Tamaqua, and later owned and operated an inspection station and repair shop in New Ringgold.
Born in Tuscarora, he was a son of the late Andrew and Mary (Delman) Kabana.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, having worked as an airplane mechanic on B-24 bomber aircrafts in Texas and Italy.
Kabana was very active for many years both as a player and coach in children's and youth baseball programs in Tuscarora and also in Patterson, N.J.
Surviving in addition to his widow are three sons, Robert J. of Totowa, N.J., Dennis of New Ringgold and Ronald of Tamaqua; a brother Bernard of Tamaqua; and six grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son Michael; an infant daughter; and a sister Helen.
The Lamar Christ Funeral Home, Hometown, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Luella Arndt
Mrs. Luella Arndt, 95, formerly of 304 Race St., Tamaqua, died Tuesday in the Hometown Nursing Home, Tamaqua R.2. She was the widow of Walter Arndt, who died Sept. 1, 1984.
Born in Mantzville, she was a daughter of the late Alvin and Adeline (Miller) Remaley.
She was a member of Triity United Church of Christ, Tamaqua.
Surviving are four daughters, Margaret, wife of Caleb Coleman, Mrs. Alice Thomas and Dorothy, wife of Willard Gerber, all of Tamaqua, and Mary Jane, wife of George Rice of Philadelphia; a son Kenneth of Summit Hill; 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son Charles; and three daughters, Edna Little and Grace and Arlene Arndt.
The Roche Funeral Home, 237 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Emma DeRemer
Mary Emma DeRemer, 67, of 17 E. Fifth St., Jim Thorpe, died Tuesday morning in her home.
She was a retired librarian, having worked at the Dimmick Memorial Library, Jim Thorpe, for 30 years.
Born in Mauch Chunk, she was a daughter of the late William and Lillie (Deppe) DeRemer.
She was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Jim Thorpe, where she was a choir member since 1938, a Sunday school teacher since 1945 and a member of the consistory since 1960, during which time she served as secretary for many years.
The last member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Robert; and a sister, Mrs. Louise Guy.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
The Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe, is in charge of the arragements.

Mrs. Armando Coviello
Mrs. Anna Marie Coviello, 66, of 221 N. Seventh St., Lehighton, died Tuesday in the Gnaden Huetten Nursing and Convalescent Center, Lehighton. She was the wife of Armando Coviello.
She and her husband owned and operated the Anna Marie Ice Cream Parlor, Lehighton, for many years before retiring in 1994.
Born in Italy, she was a daughter of the late Alfonso and Giovanna (DeSantis) Parrella.
She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Lehighton.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter Carmelina of Allentown; and a sister Theresa in Italy.
The Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, Fourth and Iron streets, Lehighton, is in charge of the arrangements.

Allen P. George
Allen P. George, 90, of Beach Haven, N.J., formerly of Doylestown, died Monday in his home. He was the husband of the late Esther (Haring) George.
Born in Slatington, he was a teacher at Hatboro-Horsham High School for 30 years before retiring in 1969.
A 1928 graduate of Lafayette College, he received his master's degree in 1931. In 1955, he qualified as a principal-supervisor in the Pennsylvania School System.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Brant Beach.
George was an Army veteran of World War II; a member of the American Legion Post 210, Doylestown, for 50 years; and a past president and secretary of the Bux-Ches Mont Forum.
Surviving is a nephew.

Mrs. Wilbert Anthony
Mrs. LaRue E. Anthony, 76, of 95 Remaly Lane, Palmerton, died Sunday in her home following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Wilbert M. Anthony. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary last December.
She last worked as a presser at the former Barson & Bishop Company, Palmerton, retiring in 1979 with 23 years of service. Prior to that, she worked for the former Natilie Fashions, Palmerton.
Born in Ashtown, Mahoning Township, she was a daughter of the late Franklin and Florence (Miller) Andreas.
She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Aquishicola.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Robert M. of Palmerton and Brian L. of Kunkletown; a daughter Beverly, wife of Barry Ramaly of Palmerton; two sisters, Eleanore, wife of Michael Perhonich, and Betty, wife of Edward Williams, both of Palmerton; three brothers, Franklin of Lehighton, Nevin of Bowmanstown and Donald of Palmerton; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The Thomas K. Thomas Funeral Home, 145 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Nicholas Kost Jr.
Mrs. Helen V. Kost, 76, of 220 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, died Sunday in the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lehighton. She was the wife of Nicholas Kost Jr. Thety observed their 50th wedding anniversary last Sept. 28.
Born in Palmerton, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Barbara (Andreas) Zell.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Palmerton.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Richard F. of Palmerton; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret J. Sander of Bowmanstown, Mrs. Marie Dennis of Jim Thorpe and Elinor, wife of Leroy Hall of Augusta, Ga.; two granddaughters, four step-grandchildren and a step-great-grandson.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Edward.
The Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, is in charge of the arrangements.

Alex Suda
Alex Suda, 81, of 10 W. High St., Coaldale, died Monday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, where he was a patient for four days. He was the husband of the late Mary (Woznisky) Suda, who died in 1991.
He was a fireman for the former Coaldale State General Hospital before retiring.
Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Peter and Pary (Polansky) Suda.
He was a member of St. Mary Russian Orthodox Church, Coaldale.
Surviving are a son, the Rev. Paul, pastor of St. Alexander Navsky Russian Orthodox Church, Pittsburgh; two daughters, Pauline, wife of Edward F. Bachert, and Sandra, wife of John D. Miller, both of Whitehall Township; three sisters, Mildred Bowski and Helen, both of Whitehall, and Ann, wife of Bernard Pisko of Hauto Valley Estates, Nesquehoning; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Stephen, Theodore, Peter and Wash; and a sister Mary.
The August M. Gulla Funeral Home, 130 E. Ridge St., Coaldale, is in charge of the arrangements.

Grant H. Rarick
Grant R. Rarick, 73, of East Stroudsburg, died Monday in the Stroud Manor, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late Mabel S. Rarick, who died in 1994.
He was a carpenter for Edinger and Wyckoff Construction Company, Stroudsburg, for 30 years, and was also a millman for the Lehigh Lumber Company, Stroudsburg, for several years.
Born in Stroudsburg, he was a son of the late Henry and Lizzie (Fish) Rarick.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
Surviving is a daughter, Elaine Gould of Gilbert.

Joseph Hubitsky Jr.
Joseph Hubitsky Jr., 84, of Pottsville, died Saturday in the Pottsville General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Frances T. (Colitz) Hubitsky.
He was a Pennsylvania state trooper for 30 years before retiring in 1968 as a sergeant in charge of the Mahanoy City substation. Previously, he was stationed in Pottsville, Hamburg, Lebanon, Tamaqua, Schuylkill Haven, Indiantown Gap, Annville, Lebanon County, and Reading.
He entered the state police in 1938 and received his training at the former Myerstown School in Lebanon County.
Born in Packerton, he was a son of the late Joseph Sr. and Pauline (Sabluk) Hubitsky.
He was a member of St. Michael Orthodox Church, Saint Clair, and a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 65.
Surviving are a brother Paul of Lehighton; three sisters, Rheta Mucka and Margaret, both of Bethlehem, and Pauline Thear of Nesquehoning; and nieces and nephews.
