Bonnie G. Tyrrell
Bonnie G. Tyrrell, 49, formerly of Honesdale, died from cancer on February 14, 2011 in Kingston, NY. She is survived by her husband, Ted Moran. She was born on January 30, 1962 in Honesdale to Barbara Tyrrell of Honesdale and the late Eugene Tyrrell. Bonnie was a graduate of Bloomsburg State University and was employed in several hospital laboratories through the years. She was passionate about flower gardening, baking, music, alternative healing and her Subaru WRX. Her sense of humor and joy of life will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Also surviving is her aunt, Shirley Uhl of Newfoundland and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Glenn Tyrrell. As per her request, cremation will be held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale at 4 PM. The family will receive friends following the service from 4:30 to 7.

Brenda Jean Upright
Brenda Jean Upright, 42, of Waymart PA died unexpectedly on Sunday, February 13, 2011 after a battle with depression.. Born on August 18, 1968, she was the daughter of Irene Xylander Upright and the late Eugene Upright. Brenda was a 1986 graduate of Western Wayne High School and received a BA from Johnson & Whales in Hotel and Restaurant Management. She was previously employed for 12 years with American Environmental Outfitters in Dunmore, PA and most recently by The Waymart Hotel. Brenda will always be remembered for her brilliant smile, infectious laugh, and commitment to helping others. She had a strong sense of community and was proud of her Waymart roots. She was also a Friend of Bill W. She is survived by a sister, Susan Coccodrilli and husband Chris of Waymart, PA.. She was aunt BeeBoo to her loving nephews, Mason and Gevin Coccodrilli, who were the light of her life and brought her much joy. Brenda had a close knit group of "sister" friends whom she also considered family. Whitey Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4PM to 7PM at the Ladore Lodge Conference Center, 398 South Street in Waymart, PA. The funeral service will also be held at Ladore Lodge Conference center on Friday at 10 AM. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chris Little Memorial Fund to benefit the Open Door Café' c/o United Methodist Women, 403 Honesdale Road, Waymart PA 18472.

Miss Jean Monaghan
Miss Jean Monaghan passed away February 19, 2011 in Honesdale, PA. Born on May 13, 1923 in Carbondale, PA, she lived in the Lake Wallenpaupack area for over 50 years. The daughter of Philip R. Monaghan II and Florence Voigt Monaghan, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert E. Monaghan, and her sister, Emily Elizabeth Young. She is survived by her brother, Philip R. Monaghan III, of Mt. Pleasant Township, PA, as well as 11 nieces and nephews. A graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School of Carbondale, PA, Miss Monaghan received her Bachelors Degree from Pratt Institute of Brooklyn, NY in 1943. She was employed by Katz, Inc. of Honesdale, PA, where she held the role of fashion designer. She retired in the 1980s. A Roman Catholic Mass will be said for her at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale, PA on February 24 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation be made to the SPCA or another charity in Miss Jean Monaghan's name.

John Thomas McCracken
John Thomas McCracken, 69 of Honesdale, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at his home. Born July 13, 1941 in Newark, NJ he was the son of the late Jack McCracken and Bernice Bauer. He was a US Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam War. Surviving are his sons Lee McCracken and wife Mary of Nevada, John McCracken and wife Casey and Scott McCracken and wife Paulette all of Arizona; his  daughters Elizabeth Hoye and husband Bill; Trisha Stephens and husband Mark all of Arizona and Ashley McCracken of Honesdale; his sister Marilee McCracken of New Jersey; his former spouse and friend Dawn McCracken of Georgia; 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. As per his request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5 to 8 at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

John A. Lienert
John A. Lienert, 86 of Honesdale, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Monica Rimlinger who died June 6, 2009. The couple married May 11, 1957. Born August 26, 1924 in Kimbles, PA he was the son and last surviving member of the late August and Josephine Kaelin Lienert family. John was a US Army veteran of World War II who served in Europe. John and his wife owned and operated a dairy farm in Oregon Twp. before retiring. John was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale attended St. Mary Magdalen Church faithfully. He was also a former member of the VFW in Hawley. John enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. He is survived by his sisters in law Rita Flederbach of Honesdale and Teresa Stiles of Paupack; many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his brothers August Jr., Fred and Louis, his sister Josephine Rose. As per his request, cremation will be held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. Interment will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

John William Daniels
John William Daniels, 96 of Wayne Delaware Manor died February 22, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Hazel M. Bayly on June 8, 1994. Born April 2, 1914 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Fred and Anna Troop Daniels. After school, John worked for several years on a farm. Later he worked for W.J. Reining in Beach Lake and then for Penn Dot. He retired from S.J. Bailey's. John was a member of the Beach Lake United Methodist Church and was the oldest member of the Beach Lake Fire Department. John continued in his later years helping at the fire hall and though he did not go on calls was known to sweep the garages while the trucks were out. He enjoyed planting flowers and gardening. John was happy to become responsible for planting and taking care of the flowers at Wayne Delaware Manor with his friend William. A big baseball fan, he was proud to throw out the first pitch at PNC Field in Moosic at the beginning of a Yankees game. He enjoyed watching many games on television no matter who was playing. Surviving is his son Richard Daniels of Honesdale;  daughters Judy Robbins of Bradenton, FL and Sharon Bayly of Beach Lake; a daughter in law Judy Daniels of Honesdale; 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son William Daniels; his sisters Etta Stegner and Rose Lyon; a daughter in law Mary Daniels. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Beach Lake United Methodist Church at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Indian Orchard Cemetery. Herman Conradi
Herman Conradi, 75 of Honesdale, died Friday, March 4,2011 at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, PA. Born August 6,1935 in Harrislee- Flensburgh, Germany he was the son of the late Hermann and Catherine Christiansen Conradi. In 1951 he moved to the United States. Herman was a Delicatessen Clerk in New York City before retiring. In his spare time he enjoyed horse racing, karaoke and Frank Sinatra music. Herman always enjoyed visits to his homeland, Germany. He was known as a jokester and always had a new joke. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He was a member of two German clubs in New York City, Fohrer and Amrumer K.U. Verein and Ottendorfer Buel Kauer Club Surviving is his son Dennis Conradi and his fiancee Christin of Stadtlohn Germany, cousins Joan Schwarz of Honesdale, Gerti Meadows of Essex Co., England and Ilse Kuhl of Harrislee, Germany. As per request of the family, a private service will be held at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale. Interment will be in St. Marys Cemetery. Memorials can be made per donors choice.

John "Jack" Wallace Warren
John "Jack" Wallace Warren, 58 of Honesdale died Saturday, March 5, 2011 unexpectedly at his home. Born June 16, 1952 in Summit, NJ he was the son of the late Wallace Frank Warren who died in 1965, and the surviving Carol M. Santos of Honesdale. He was a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1971, and played on the first football team as a defensive end. Jack was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan. Jack enjoyed building die cast model cars, and was noted for his great detailing work. He was also fond of the HO train and his extensive layout. He had a true passion for model trains and die cast memorabilia. He will be greatly missed by his dogs, Yoda and Benji. Surviving is his mother Carol M. Santos of Honesdale, his son Zachary Warren of Winston- Salem, NC, his daughter Leah Warren of Scranton, PA, his brother William Warren of Tafton, PA, his sisters Carolyn Warren of Hawley, PA , Dianna Dutton and husband, Edward of Tyler Hill, PA, Kathy Bower of Tafton, PA, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step- Father, Elder Santos, who passed away in 2009. As per his request, cremation will be held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 3pm in the Central United Methodist Church- Wesley Room, Honesdale by Rev. Andrew Weidner of the First United Methodist Church of New Milford, PA; pastor and friend. Friends may visit from 1 to 3 in the Wesley Room. Joseph E. Guttilla
Joseph E. Guttilla, 86 of Honesdale, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at his home. He is survived by his wife, the former Violetta D'Agostino. The couple would have celebrated their 63rd anniversary on March 27, 2011. Born March 26, 1924 in Manhattan, NY he was the son of the late Salvatore and Frances Decarlo Guttilla. At the age of 18, he enlisted with the US Army and served during World War II in the Philippines aboard a cargo ship. He worked as a hoverboat supplier, sailing from port to port all across the Pacific theater. When he received his honorable discharge in 1946, he achieved the rank of Corporal. After returning home, he worked as a cutter with several garment companies. Later he began working as a custodian with Manhassett School District on Long Island. He retired from Roslin School District where he was the head custodian. Joe was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, council 363 in Honesdale. Joe enjoyed bowling and belonged to several bowling leagues when he lived in Long Island. He and his wife enjoyed traveling. He and his family took a cross country trip several years ago. He had traveled to all but three states and had traveled throughout Europe. Being aboard a ship during the war, he enjoyed ships and took several cruises to the Caribbean. Joe was known to be very handy. He enjoyed woodworking, making birdhouses and book shelves. He did not shy away from any home renovations. Also surviving is his daughter Rose Stachowiak of Beach Lake; his brother Gasper Guttilla and wife Helen of Hobe Sound, FL and his granddaughter Bethany Stachowiak of Beach Lake. He was preceded in death by his daughter Frances Marie Guttilla and his sister Vinzia "Vi" Ferrari. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Donald A. Smith
Donald A. Smith, 76, of Honesdale PA, died on February 2,2011 at his home due to a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Marlene Moll R.N. The couple married on June 6, 1959. He was born January 30, 1935 in Honesdale, PA. He was a graduate of the Honesdale Catholic High. He also completed 2 years at Mt. St. Marys in Emmettsburg, MD. Following college, he worked at the family shoe store, and then Murray Co. He later worked at Firmstone Oil Co. as an office manager for 36 years before retiring Donald was also active in the community. He was on the Board of Directors for the Honesdale Country Club. He was a former member of the Honesdale Fire Hose Co #1, as well as a member of the Wayne County Historical Society. He also was a 50 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Eagles Home Association as former Treasurer. Also a member of the Honesdale Planning Commission, and later the zoning board. He was a former Honesdale Jaycees. He was a member of the Honesdale coin club, and was an avid numismatist for most of his life. Donald enjoyed the outdoors, he was a fisherman, and loved canoeing on Kellows Pond. He was a loving husband,  Father, and grandfather. Surviving are a son, Gregory Smith of Harrisburg, PA, a daughter, Michele DeBlasi and her husband, Glen of Lake Hopatcong, NJ, a sister-in-law, Marge Mangan of Binghamton, NY, 2 grandchildren, Steven Livsey and Tatum Smith, and 1 step-grandson, Bryce DeBlasi and his daughter Sara. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Mark Livsey. As per his request cremation was held at Maple Hill Crematory Archbald, Pa A Memorial services will be held at Hessling Funeral Home 428 Main St. Honesdale, PA on February 7, 2011 at 12:00 pm. Fredrick N. "Rick" Eck
Fredrick N. "Rick" Eck, 59 of Honesdale, PA died unexpectedly February 2, 2011 at C.M.C. Scranton. He is survived by his wife of 5 years, the former Patricia S. "Patti" Seymour. The couple married on January 14, 2006. Born May 16, 1951 in Scranton he is the son of Elizabeth Yerkes Eck-Hopler of Honesdale and the late Everett C. Eck. He was a graduate of Milton-Hershey School, and continued his education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Following his college, he became a self-employed accountant in Honesdale. An active member of the community, Rick was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, WEDCO, the Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Honesdale Planning Partnership. Rick was an avid fisherman. He was a member as well as the former treasurer of the Catskill Fly Fishing Museum. He was also a member of Trout Unlimited, and Cremton Fish Club. Rick was a talented fly maker and was known for his salmon flies. He will be remembered as a loving husband,  Father, son and friend. Also surviving is his daughter Jessica Cini and husband Matthew of Toms River, NJ; his son Jonathon Eck of Philadelphia; his Gerald Eck of Honesdale; his sister Jeanne Neal of Springfield MA; step children Joyce, Timothy and Devon Ritz all of Honesdale. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM at the Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Jean Blackie officiating. As per his request, cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. Friends may visit at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9. Michael David Melvin Cottell
Michael David Melvin Cottell, 32 of Honesdale died unexpectedly February 3, 2011 at a friends home. Born August 19, 1978 in Honesdale, he is the son of David W. Cottell and wife Susan of Honesdale and Amy Lee Smith of Honesdale. Mike was a graduate of Honesdale High School and has been working at Wayne Memorial Hospital as a nursing assistant for the past two years. Mike was planning on attending nursing school. He was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale. The love of his life was his daughter, Hailee. He enjoyed teaching her to see the beauty of God in all things. Everyone who knew Mike will always remember his warm smile, his loving care and compassion he showed to everyone he met. Michael loved being with his family and friends. Mike's family would like to graciously thank Bill and Cathy Kelly for all the love and care they showed Mike over the last several years. Also surviving is his daughter Hailee Cottell of Hawley, his paternal grandmother Cathy Bigart and husband Eugene "Bunk" of Honesdale; his brother Daniel Cottell of Boulder, CO; his sister Maureen Cottell-Polt and husband Michael stationed in Norfolk, VA; a nephew Brenden and niece Melanie; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Lewis D. Phillips
Lewis D. Phillips, 79 of Madison Twp, died Saturday, February 5, 2011 at St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home in Elmhurst. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Patricia M. Phillips who died December 21, 2010. The couple married January 1, 1956. Born November 18, 1931 in Sparta, NJ, he was the son of Anna Malone and Robert Lee Phillips. Lewis was an avid biker who enjoyed his Harley and spent most of his free time riding. Every year when he lived in Florida he would participate in the annual Toys for Tots motorcycle run, along with various other bike run fundraisers. He taught all six of his children how to ride and often built motorcycles from scratch. He enjoyed taking long bike trips with his wife to visit friends. Lewis will be remembered as a loving  Father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home and Diakon Hospice - St. John for the exceptional care they provided Lew during his stay. Surviving are two sons, Dale Phillips and companion Robert Whitman, Bainbridge, NY; and Robert Phillips and companion, Michael Satterfield, Fort Lauderdale, FL; four  daughters, Cindy Hamilton and husband George, Mineral Wells, TX; Vicky Wagner and husband Richard, Meshoppen, PA; Brenda Phillips, Boynton Bch, FL; and Jacquelyn Dexheimer and husband Billy, Moscow, PA; one brother, William Phillips and wife Joan, Lafayette, NJ; two sisters, Grace Kays, Lafayette, NJ; and Doris Kinney, Branchville, NJ. six grandchildren, Erica, Jessica, Justina, Joshua, Matthew, Jahnay; two great grandchildren, Kenneth and April and numerous nieces and nephews. As per his request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3 to 5 followed by a memorial service at 5 o'clock at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale. Julie Ann Smith
Julie Ann Smith, 52 of Cherry Ridge, died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton. She is survived by her husband of 11 years Eugene Buki. Born December 16, 1958 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Peter F. and Olga Malti Smith. She was a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1976. For 25 years, Julie drove truck for Hanson Aggragates. Julie loved all animals and enjoyed taking care of her many pets which she took in and adopted. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale. Also surviving is her brother Dale Smith and wife Margaret of Cherry Ridge; her step-daughter Karen Marie Buki of Quakertown, PA; aunts Eva Panfili of Cherry Ridge and Genevieve Odom of Baltimore, MD; a niece Clayre Smith; nephews Ryan and Zachary Smith; many cousins and friends. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 at St. Mary Magdalen Church at 10 AM. As per her request, cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald and private interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. William (Doug) Murphy
William (Doug) Murphy passed away, Sunday, February 6, 2011. He was a resident of Bedford Towers in Clark Summitt, PA. A native of Harrisburg, Doug graduated from John Harris High School in 1960 and joined the United States Coast Guard where he served four years. He graduated from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO as a geologist and mining engineer. Doug loved the outdoors, rocks and the Earth. He worked at several of the nuclear plants across the United States as well as teaching Earth Sciences. Doug is survived by his sister Mary Murphy Ross; nieces Julie Ann Barrett, Lisa Marie Miller and Mary Elizabeth Martines; 12 great nieces and nephews and 3 great great nieces and nephews. Doug was loved by his family and will be always in out thoughts and prayers. Cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald, PA. Interment will be in East Harrisburg Cemetery. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale, PA.

Paul Hans Goldbach
Paul Hans Goldbach, 81 of Honesdale, died Friday, February 11, 2011 at home. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Evelyn Doris Brown. The couple married June 2, 1956. Born October 1, 1929 in East Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late Paul and Ottilie Lauser Goldbach. He spent his childhood years in Frankfurt, Germany before returning to New Jersey at 16 years of age. He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and was stationed in the Phillipines. Paul was a tool and die maker in Roselle, NJ and eventually retired from Prompton Tool in 1996. Paul was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish attending St. Joseph's Church in Rileyville and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 363. Also surviving are his children Cecilia and husband Howard, Paul Michael and wife Carol, Daniel and wife Jill and Katherine and husband Edward; a sister in law Florence Kanouse; grandchildren Kevin, Jeffrey, Corey, Tony, Christopher, Jessica, Tommy, Caleb and Christian. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at Noon at St. Joseph's Church in Rileyville. As per his request, cremation will follow. Pauline McCaffrey
Pauline McCaffrey, 96, a resident of Bethany Village, died Saturday, February 12, 2011. The child of Sicilian immigrants, Vincenzo and Maria Mortellaro Cottone, she was born in Kentwood, Louisiana on February 8, 1914. In 1922 the family moved to the Lower East Side of New York and it was there, in 1936, that she met her husband to be, Joseph McCaffrey. They lived in Brooklyn, NY, started a family and in 1946, moved to White Mills where they lived for 40 years, moving to an apartment in Honesdale in 1986. Active in the White Mills community, Mrs. McCaffrey was also an excellent and accomplished cook. She exposed her family to many different kinds of food, inspiring a life-long interest in the pleasures of the table in all there children. Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, in 1998, Mrs. McCaffrey is survived by four children; Patricia (Lewis) Howell, Franklin, TN; Andrew, Norristown, PA; Hugh(Melissa), Los Angeles, CA and Brian (Janet), Olyphant, PA. Three grandchildren Lewis A. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 AM at Queen of Peace Church in Hawley. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Honesdale. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Wednesday from 9 to 10. Memorial contributions can be made to the Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Dr. Honesdale, PA 18431 or Sacred Heart Hospice, 600 Baltimore Dr., Wilkes Barre, PA 18702.

Robert Wilford Shaffer
Robert Wilford Shaffer, 66 of Cherry Ridge, died Saturday, January 1, 2011 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, the former JoAnne M. Patten. The couple married May 31, 1969. Born June 7, 1944 in Carbondale, he is the son of Mae Louise Wood Shaffer who currently resides at Wayne Woodlands Manor and the late Wilford Shaffer. Robert owned and operated an excavating business known as R. Shaffer Excavating. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and his newly found love, his Harley Davidson. Roberts greatest love is his family. Also surviving are his  daughters Brenda Lee and husband Clifford, Christina Rose and Karon Marold; his brother James Shaffer and wife Patricia; sisters Ruth Ann Enslin, Betty Eroh and husband George and June Schaible and husband Donald; grandchildren Christa and Shawn Clemo, Brittanne Lee, Brittany and Bret Marold, Ryan Rose and Chloe Carney; several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Elmer, Lyle and Joseph Shaffer. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 AM at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale with Pastor Ted Faux of the Lake Ariel Faith Fellowship Church officiating. As per his request, cremation will follow. Friends may visit on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8.
