Hilda Ehler

November 29, 2006

Hilda Ehler, Lake Ariel, died Wednesday morning at the Brighten at Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center. Her husband was the late Walter Ehler.

Born in the Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Hilda Geiger Marvin.

Prior to retirement she was employed as an operator for New York Telephone.

Surviving are a daughter-in-law Judith Ehler Swingle and her husband George Swingle, Newfoundland; grandchildren Cindy Obrien and Husband Joseph of Greenetown and Scott Ehler and wife Amy of Texas, Great-grandchildren Sarah,
Devyn, Jonathan and Nikalaus. Preceded in death by a son Robert and sisters Ruth Flanerty and Harriett Mendonca.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt. 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Gordon White, Pastor of thePentecostal Assembly of God Church, Hamlin. Friends may call Saturday from 9:30am until service time at the Funeral Home.

Cremation will take place at the Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.

Carleton Swingle

November 12, 2006

Carleton “Carl”Swingle, Lake Ariel, died Monday morning in the Wayne Memorial Hospital after an illness. His wife is the former Katherine Brink.
The couple was married December 19, 1942.
Born in Lake Ariel, son of the late James C. and Eva Mae Martin Swingle.

He was a member of the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church. Prior to retirement he had been self employed as an independent mail carrier
contractor. He was a United States Army veteran.
Surviving are  daughters Darlene Lutz and her husband Eric and Rosemary Tregaskis; sons Ronald P. and Mark J. and his wife Maureen all of Lake Ariel; a brother William of Shehola; a sister Joyce Seely of Conneticut; grandchildren Pam, David, Dana, April, Amber, Brian, Amy, Judy, and Troy; great grandchildren Kevin, Emily, Eva, Abigail, Tyler, and Jamie; several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 11am in the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church, 110 Maple Ave. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Ron Onder. Interment , Hamlin Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church 110 Maple Ave. Lake Ariel, Pa. 18436.

Charles D. Frisbie

November 12, 2006

Charles D. Frisbie, Lake Ariel, died early Sunday morning at home after an illness. His wife is the former Emily Wood.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Lyle and Bertha Snedeker Frisbie and step son of the late Marjorie Bartleson Wood. He was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School. He was a member of the Avoy Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and Trustee, the United Auto Workers Union and the Child Evangelical Fellowship in Honesdale. Prior to retirement he had been employed by the Ford Motor Company as an electrician. He was a United States Army veteran.

Surviving are brothers Lyle of Mississippi and Robert of Carbondale;
sisters Ruth Masker of Hollisterville and Joyce Shaffer of Mt. Cobb; step brothers Stanley and Edward Wood both of Moscow; step sister Marjorie Mignerey of Lake Ariel; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by a brother David; a sister Ellen Buckingham; step sister Elnora Lohrey.

The funeral will be Thursday at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Kenneth Lindow, Jr. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8pm.
Interment, Hollisterville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Avoy Christian Church c/o Ronald Merring 746 Avoy Rd. Lake Ariel, Pa. 18436.

Marie G. Baker

November 4, 2006

Marie G. Baker died Saturday morning at the Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center
after an illness. Her husband was the late John Baker.

Born March 8, 1918 in Queens, NY, she was employed as a secretary in New
York.

Surviving are a daughter Nevia Pritchard of Blairstown, NJ; a grandson
Jeffery Baker, Lake Ariel.

She was preceded in death by a son Paul and a grandson Steven Paul.

Cremation took place in the Lake Region Crematory.

Interment, St. Raymonds Cemetery, Westchester, New York.

John M. Naholnik

November 6, 2006

John M. Naholnik, South Canaan, died Monday morning at home. His widow is the former Mildred V. Vaverchak.

Born in Mayfield, son of the late Michael and Mary Naholnik he attended Lackawanna County Public Schools and was a devoted member of St. Tikhon’s Church, South Canaan. Prior to retirement he was the owner and operator of his own construction company. He was a member of the Waymart Lodge F. & A. M. and the VFW Post in Cortez. He was a United Sates Army Veteran serving during World War II.

Surviving are sons John “Jack” Naholnik, Jr. of Port Richey, Florida and Michael Naholnik of Norristown; a daughter Joan Gallinot of South Canaan; brothers Paul of Florida and Raymond of Lake Ariel; sisters Ann Dragon of Mayfield and Helen Kuchmamich of Forest City; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by brothers Stephen and William; a sister Tillie Luxmore; a step sister Sophie Karnick. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11am in St. Tikhon’s Church by Bishop Tikhon.

Friends may call Wednesday from 6-9pm and Thursday from 10am until time of service in St. Tikhon’s Church, St. Tikhon’s Road, South Canaan. Interment , St. Tikhon’s Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Tikhon’s Monastery PO Box 130 South Canaan, Pa. 18459.

Clara J. Booths

November 6, 2006

Clara J. Booths, Lake Ariel, died Monday morning in the Wayne Memorial Hospital after an illness. She was the widow of John J. Booths, Sr. who died in 1990.

Born in Franklin, New Jersey daughter of the late Vincent and Valerie Niekrewicz. She was a member of St. Thomas More Church. She had been employed by Katz Manufacturing in Honesdale and her family’s farm.

Surviving are sons John V and his wife Ann of Waymart, Vincent J. and his deceased wife Catherine, Joseph and his wife Mary Ann and James and his wife Gail all of Lake Ariel; a daughter Regina Lesak and her husband Richard of Waymart; a brother Carl Niekrewicz of Honesdale; grandchildren Patrick, Debra, Christine, Jossie, David, Michael, Robert, Valerie, Stanley, Renne, Joseph, Carol, Eric, David, Linda, Mary Beth, Scott, Mark, Brian and Jamie; great grandchildren Brittany, Logan, Rachel, Bradley, David, Jr., Sheena, Michele, Shantelle, Crystal, Laura, Jessie, Karina, Jonathon, Josh, Clara, Jasper, Joseph, Elizabeth, Courtney, Autumn, Skyler, Noah, Gianna, John, Bridget, Colin, Emily, MacKenzie, Brooklyn, Olivia and Kali; great great grandson Donte.

Preceded in death by a brother Frank; sisters Helen Bassett and Ann Jarusik. The funeral will Thursday at 8:45am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with Mass to be celebrated at 9:30am in St. Thomas More Church Lake Ariel.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8pm and Thursday morning from 8:15 until time of service. Interment , St. Catherine’s Cemetery.

Rebecca Swingle DeFrehn

October 12, 2006

Rebecca Swingle DeFrehn, Greentown, died Thursday morning in the Marian Community Hospital. She was the widow of Wayne Swingle who died in 1992 and Samuel DeFrehn who died in 2006.
Born in Hamlin, daughter of the late Edmund and Esther Parry Hollister.
She was a member of the Jericho Independent Church.
Surviving are sons Roger Swingle of Sterling Twp., Albert of Salem Twp., and Wayne, Jr. of Sterling Twp.;  daughters Nancy Medalis of Feasterville, Pa. and Tammy Beltramo of Beaver, Pa.; step-children Gail DeFrehn Hinton, David DeFrehn, and Samuel DeFrehn all of Greentown and Albert DeFrehn of Wilkes-Barre; brothers Kenneth and Robert Hollister both of Sterling Twp.; sisters Charlotte Schaffer of Sterling Twp, Dorothy Lutz of Salem Twp, Lois Jeffrey of Seymour, Ct., and Barbara Walton Greene Twp; 18 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a daughter Janet Kearney; a brother Cpl. Homer W. Hollister who died in the Vietnam War.

The funeral will Monday at 11am in the Jericho Independent Church 289 Sterling Rd. Newfoundland, Pa. 18445 with services by Rev. William Henwood, pastor. Friends may call Sunday from 3-6pm and Monday from 10am until time of service at the church.

Raymond F. Lukeski, Jr.

October 5, 2006

Raymond F. Lukeski, Jr., Hamlin, died Thursday after being stricken ill. Born in Scranton, son of the late Raymond F. Sr and Dora June Skelton Lukeski he was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School and the Johnson School majoring in Tool and Die. He was employed by Tinsley Design and Fabrication, Moscow as a welder and the Loveshaw Manufacturing Company, South Canaan.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved gardening and to spend time outside in nature. He was also a life member of the National Rifleman Association.

Surviving are a brother Robert J. of Archbald; sisters Jean Marie Pfister of Hamlin and Roseann Houman both of Hamlin; one niece; four nephews; cousins. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 5pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel. Friends may call Sunday from 2-5pm. Cremation will follow in the Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.

Jane Knickerbocker

September 29, 2006

Jane Van Luvender Knickerbocker, 61, of South Canaan, formerly of Moscow, died suddenly Friday morning in the Marian Community Hospital. Her husband of 42 years was William J. Knickerbocker.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Merlin and Marion Edwards Van Luvender. She attended both Lake Ariel and Taylor schools graduating from Taylor High School in 1963. She was a member of the Moscow United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years.

She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader and a Cub Scout Den mother. She was a kind and loving mother, wife, grandmother, and friend. She will be remembered by all she loved and who loved her. She lived her life caring about others, even those she didn’t know well. She never let anything get her down and often would say, “this too shall pass.” She devoted her life to her family.
She loved Nascar Racing, football and fishing. She also enjoyed cross
stitching and crossword puzzles.

Surviving are a daughter Donna Knowles and her husband Ron of Gouldsboro; sons William C. of South Canaan, James of Mt. Cobb and David of Moscow; a brother Paul Van Luvender of Moosic; grandchildren Ronnie and Jason Knowles and Cameron and Chase Knickerbocker; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Jon Buxton, pastor of the Moscow United Methodist Church.
Friends may call Monday from 5-8pm. Interment , Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Memorial contributions may be made to the donors favorite charity.

Mary P. Chapman

September 23, 2006

Mary P. Chapman, Lake Ariel, died Saturday evening in the Brighten at Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center after an illness.

Born in Lake Ariel, daughter of the late Bert G and Emma Mignerey Chapman. She attended the Lake Consolidated School and was a member of the Avoy Christian Church. Prior to retirement she had been employed by Katz’s Manufacturing in Honesdale.

Surviving are her niece Eva VanSickle of Lake Ariel; cousins.

Preceded in death by three brothers Eugene, Albert, and Edward; two sisters Marguerite Chapman and Jennie VanSickle.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Lake Ariel.

Friends may call Tuesday morning from 10:30am until time of service. Interment , Avoy Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

Beatrice A. Chapman Kramer Skinner

September 20, 2006

Beatrice A. Chapman Kramer Skinner, 80, Lake Ariel died Wednesday morning in Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by two husbands Henry G Kramer in 1963 and Leon Skinner in 1981. Born in Lake Twp, daughter of the late Claude H. Chapman and Pearl V. Hafler Chapman Enslin. Prior to retirement she had been employed by Waymart Knitwear. She was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are 4  daughters: Kathleen N. Kramer Sheerer of Bethlehem, Marlene P. Kramer Ackerman of Clarks Summit, Lewanna M. Kramer Lockwood Lynons Black of South Canaan and Linda Lee R. Kramer, Lake Ariel; stepson Joseph Skinner of Clarks Summit; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. No viewing will be held at the request of the family.

The funeral will be held on Saturday morning at 10 am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt 296 Gravity Rd Lake Ariel, with services by Rev Ron Onder. Interment East Canaan Cemetery, South Canaan.

Eleanor M. Kidder

September 15, 2006

Eleanor M. Kidder, The Hideout, died Friday morning at Brighten at Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center. Her husband was the late Robert Kidder.

Born in Union City, NJ, daughter of the late Eugene and Molly Arricale Capone. She was a member of St. Thomas More Church, Lake Ariel.

Surviving are sons James and his wife Dawn Kidder, Lake Ariel and Kenneth, New Jersey;  daughters, Donna and her husband William O’Borne of Sebastian, Fl, and Beverly Lanoue, NJ; a sister Jean Riga, NJ; grandchildren, Carrie, Julie, Harvey, Joey, Austin, Kimberly, Robert III, and Dana; 7 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son Robert, Jr.

A Blessing Service will be held Tuesday at 10:30am in the James Wilson Funeral Home, Rt. 296 Gravity Road, Lake Ariel, with services by  Father Phil Altavilla.

Friends may call Tuesday 9:00 until the time of service.

Interment, St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
