Edward Joseph McDeavitt
Kilbuck Township

Edward Joseph McDeavitt, 57, died Monday, July 31, 2000, in his home. Mr. McDeavitt was employed as a truck driver and later as a private contractor in the demolition and salvage business. Survivors include a brother, Daniel McDeavitt of Valencia; two sisters , Ellen McDeavitt of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Mary Kramer of Gibsonia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald J. and Lillian Brahler McDeavitt. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the McDONALD-LINN FUNERAL HOME, 529 California Ave., Avalon, where services will be 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be private.

Kurt Eric Mertsch
Export

Kurt Eric Mertsch, 55, of Export, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, in the Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. He was born March 18, 1945, in Trondheim, Norway, a son of the late Henry F. and Ethel Christianson Mertsch. He was a self-employed electrician and a Vietnam era veteran. Survived by his wife, Kathleen L. Chrise Mertsch; four children, Robert H. Mertsch and his wife, Janice, of Export, Erica O'Connell and her husband, John, of Blairsville, Melissa Cote of Jeannette, and Kurt Eric Mertsch at home; a sister and a brother, Linda Mertsch-Killion of Pasadena, Calif., and Robert W. Mertsch and his wife, Linda, of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Sara Lee, Bobby, Harley, Eric, and Jamie Mertsch, and Torri O'Connell; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Mertsch's family will receive friends at the JOHN L. BASH FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, (724) 468-8381, at a time to be announced.

Edwin W. Moeller
Ross

Edwin W. Moeller, 90, of Ross, died Tuesday, August 1, 2000, in his home. A resident of Ross Township for 89 years, he and his family operated a flour mill and later a grocery at 4601 Perry Highway, across from the old Keating Carbarn. Mr. Moeller also served the community as a volunteer fireman with the Keating Fire Companny for 50 years; as a Ross Township commissioner and a councilman at the Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Hoge Moeller and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday in HEARD FUNERAL HOME, INC., 4047 Perrysville Ave., Observatory Hill, where services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Pastor Dennis Orsen will officiate. Entombment will follow at Allegheny County Memorial Park, McCandless. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Frances M. Myers
Greensburg

Frances M. Myers, 80, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in the Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Sept. 20, 1919, in Unity Township, a daughter of the late Charles and Anna Tuk Yeskulsky. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Myers, on Nov. 25, 1995; by a brother, Stanley Yeskulsky; and a sister, Elizabeth Bowman. She is survived by a son, Hilary and his wife, Janet Yeskulsky, of Greensburg RD8; a daughter, Mary Pletcher of Greensburg; a granddaughter, Rachel Pletcher of Greensburg; a brother, Bernard Yeskulsky of Greensburg; a sister, Eva and her husband, John Bodnar, of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. A private Funeral Liturgy was held Thursday in the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, with the Rev. Daniel C. Mahoney officiating. Private interment followed in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Benedict Catholic Church Renovation Fund, RD8, Box 560, Greensburg, PA 15601.

Madelene O'Data
Bridgeville
Formerly of Brentwood

Madelene O'Data, 86, died Tuesday, August 1, 2000, in ManorCare Nursing Home, Greentree after a short illness. A long time resident of Brentwood, she most recently lived at Washington Commons in Bridgeville, Pa. She was born on July 1, 1912 in Pittsburgh, the daugter of the late Arnold C. and Clara (Nagel) Rowlands. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas C. O'Data in 1993, and a brother, Arnold C. Rowlands Jr., in 1998. Following graduation from Carrick High School, Mrs. O'Data worked as a hostess at the former Pittsburgh Hotel and Stouffer's Restaurants. In 1950 she helped open the Gateway Plaza Restaurants, in the Gateway Center of Pittsburgh, serving as head hostess and banquet manager. In 1961 she was named assistant manager of Longue Vue Country Club, Verona, and was promoted to manager later that year. She was the first woman manager of a major country club in Pennsylvania . After 18 years at Longue Vue, Mrs. O'Data retired in 1979. She is survived by two sons , Charles N. and his wife, Marilyn, of Beaver, and Gary N. and his wife, Debra, of South Fayette; four grandchildren, Jon O'Data of Rochester, Ann O'Data Lawso nof Tallmadge, Ohio, Jackie and Drew O'Data, both of South Fayette; two great-grandchildren, Aaron and Lauren O'Data of Rochester; one sister-in-law, Sally Rowlands; one nephew, Arnold Rowlands, of Pittsburgh. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in CIESLAK & TATKO FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2935 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, where a funeral prayer will be at 9:15 a.m. Saturday. A Christian Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Sylvester Church with Fr. Mark Eckman officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Park.

Florence McNierney Pelletier
El Paso, Texas
formerly of North Irwin

Florence "Tish" McNierney Pelletier, 72, of El Paso, Texas , formerly of North Irwin, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, in Texas . She was born March 30, 1928, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Francis and Florence Jones McNierney. Surviving are her husband, Joseph C. Pelletier of El Paso, Texas ; the following children: Maureen Fuentas, Joseph Pelletier, Roseanne Allen, Charmaine McQuaide, Kellie Pelletier, and Patrick Pelletier, all of Texas ; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers , Francis J. McNierney of Manor and Leonard J. McNierney of Allison Park; and a sister, Kathleen Tirpak of North Irwin. Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 2, in the St. Raphael's Church, El Paso, Texas . "We love and will miss you so much." Announcement provided by the JOSEPH F. OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., Irwin.

Gilda L. `Dollie' Root Russell

Gilda L. "Dollie" Root Russell, 73, died Wednesday, August 2, 2000, in her home. Mrs. Russell was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, John Root; two daughters , Brenda Megela of Finley and Patricia Spampinato of Ross; a sister, Betty Szazz of Ohio; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a number of brothers and sisters . Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME, 388 Center Ave., West View, where service will be 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Beth Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memorial Park, Verona.

Betty Jean Ficco Sonnie, a resident of Minden, Nev., for two years, formerly of Greensburg, died Friday, July 28, 2000. She will be missed by her friends and co-workers at the former Westinghouse Semi-Conductor Plant in Youngwood. Services were held in Minden, Nev.

Ruth L. Sprinkle

Ruth L. Sprinkle, 83, of Scottdale RD1 (Thornwood), passed away Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 2, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, (724) 887-5300, e-mail: rferg<\at>a1usa.net, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Additional viewing will be held in the Kingview Mennonite Church Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m., the hour of funeral service with Pastors Donna and Conrad Mast officiating. Graveside committal services and interment will follow in Scottdale Cemetery.

Fred A. Stefkovich

Fred A. Stefkovich, 53, of Penn Township, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, in his home. He was born Feb. 11, 1947, in Avella, a son of the late Andrew J. and Dorothy Laborie Stefkovich. He was the co-owner for 21 years of the Walker & Associates Insurance Agency in Turtle Creek. He was a member of St. Barbara Church in Harrison City. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Jo Stumpf Stefkovich; two daughters , Kimberly A. Stefkovich of Greensburg and Heather M. Stefkovich of Penn Township; two brothers , James M. Stefkovich and Andrew J. Stefkovich, both of Avella; a sister, Sonya Petricca of Burgettstown; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Harrison City, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Barbara Church with the Rev. Robert Lubic as celebrant. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205. A vigil service will be held Friday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Jean C. Tito
Latrobe

Jean C. Tito, 85, of Latrobe, died Friday, July 14, 2000, in Redstone Highlands, Greensburg, after a short illness. She was born Nov. 13, 1914, in Hazelwood, a daughter of the late John and Blanche Gray Cox. She was a member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church, where she held a number of offices. She was a 1934 graduate of the nursing school at St. Margaret Hospital in Pittsburgh. She was a member of the Civic Club nd served both with FISH and Meals on Wheels. In addition, she was on the boards of both the Red Cross and the Adams Memorial Library, Latrobe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Tito. She is survived by three children, James L. Tito of Latrobe, Patricia T. Rutzler of Erie and Richard J. Tito of Sewickley; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Logan W. Cox of Hot Springs, Ark. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. in the Unity Chapel, Unity Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Adams Memorial Library, 1112 Ligonier St., Latrobe. The HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., Latrobe, in charge of arrangements.
