Ralph G. Becker

June 11, 1999

Ralph G. Becker, 74 years of age, of Pocono Pines died on Friday, June 11, at home. He was the beloved husband of Mary E. Becker, and they celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary in February.

Born in Germany, he was the son of the late Herbert M. and Carola J. (Wermann) Becker. He arrived in New Jersey when he was 4 years old.

He was a resident of Lake Naomi, Pocono Pines, for the past 13 years, and previously lived in Cranford, N.J., for 34 years.

He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Elizabeth, N.J., and Professional Aides Institute in Dental Technology in Newark, N.J. He also attended Rutgers University.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, in the Italian Campaign, Fifth Army, 88th Division. He received the Purple Heart in 1944 and was discharged in 1945.

Ralph retired in 1986 after 32 years with Pamarco Inc., Roselle, N.J.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two beloved daughters, Laura Nielsen of Scotch Plains, N.J., and Barbara Smith of Arkansas. He was the devoted and loving grandfather of Heidi and Christian Nielsen of Scotch Plains, N.J., and Amalie Maddox of Arkansas.

He has one sister, Ruth E. Gunther, one niece and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son-in-law, Christian W. Nielsen in October 1998 and beloved grandson, Jeremiah K. Maddox in January 1999.

He has left a gift of beautiful memories to all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Hospice of Monroe County, 500 Independence Road, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.

Cremation services were provided by the Bolock Funeral Home, routes 940 and 390, Paradise Valley.

Roberta Mae Gaunt

June 20, 1999

Roberta Mae Gaunt, 72, of Gilbert, died Sunday at home. She was the wife of the late Robert W. Gaunt.

Born on Sept. 23, 1926, in East Stroudsburg, she had lived in the area most of her life and in Florida for 10 years, returning one year ago. She had worked as a bank teller in Clinton, N.J., and then for Instrument Specialties in Delaware Water Gap.

She is survived by three sons, David W. Gaunt of Glen Gardner, N.J., Robert R. Gaunt of Niantic, Conn., and Jerry C. Gaunt of Easton; and nine grandchildren.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lehigh Valley Hospice, 5003 Route 611, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

Dorothy W. Venet

June 19, 1999

Dorothy W. Venet, 64, of Stroudsburg, died Saturday evening at home. She was the wife of Zal Venet at home.

Born on June 18, 1935, in Duryea, she was the daughter of Mary (Lisnock) Wasta of Woodbridge, N.J., and the late George Wasta. She had lived in the area for the past 13 years. She was the executive vice president of Venet Companies in New Jersey, New York and San Juan, Puerto Rico. She was Catholic.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by two daughters, Lisa Marie Phillips, wife of Mark, of Bartonsville, and Deborah Ann DeCaprio of Stroudsburg; a son, Bernard William "Bud" Stofik of Palmerton; two stepsons, Alan Charles Venet of Williams, Ore., and William Venet, husband of Tena of Jericho, Vt.; five grandchildren, Maria Phillips of Bartonsville, Angela and Patrick DeCaprio of Stroudsburg, and Beverly and Elizabeth Stofik of Palmerton; two step grandchildren, Nathan and Ursula Venet of Jericho, Vt.; a sister, Irene Migliorino, wife of Gasper, of Piscataway, N.J.; and two nieces, Donna Marie Migliorino of Aberdeen, N.J., and Lynn Anne Migliorino of Forked River, N.J.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at St. James Catholic Church, Woodbridge, N.J. Burial will follow in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Rahway, N.J.

A viewing will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the William H. Clark Funeral Home and from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Gerity Funeral Home, 411 Amboy, Woodbridge, N.J.

Ruth Lorraine Dippre Brown

June 20,1999

Ruth Lorraine Dippre Brown, 69, of Stroudsburg, died Sunday in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of Kenneth R. Brown Sr. at home.

Born on July 19, 1929, in East Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Hannas) Dippre and had lived in the area all of her life. She had been a garment worker in Bangor and also did housekeeping at Walter's Motel in Stroudsburg.

She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union; a former member of the George N. Kemp Post 346 American Legion Auxiliary, East Stroudsburg; and a former member of the Thomas P. Lambert Post 2545 Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Stroudsburg.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother, Harold "Bud" Dippre of Bushkill; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Mae Dippre and Mary Detrick, and five brothers, Joseph Dippre, Robert Dippre Sr., Carl Dippre, Walter Dippre and Frank Dippre.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home with Monsignor John A. Bergamo officiating. Cremation will follow in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg. Burial of the ashes will be in the Sand Hill Cemetery, Shoemakers.

A viewing will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pauline E. Scheller

June 21, 1999

Pauline E. Scheller, 88, of Stroudsburg, died Monday morning at home. She was the wife of the late Russell E. Scheller.

Born on May 29, 1911 in Branchville, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Frank Lockburner and the late Lulu (Johnson) Lockburner Smith and had lived in the area most of her life.

She was a member of the Knowlton United Methodist Church in Hainesburg, N.J.; the Order of the Eastern Star #38 in Hardyston Township, N.J.; and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lehigh Consistory in Allentown.

She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn O. Allen of Stroudsburg; a son, Russell F. Scheller of Deland, Fla.; two granddaughters, Lynn Burgoon of East Stroudsburg and Cynthia Zeman of Bangor; six great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and several cousins.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, in the Stroudsburg Cemetery, with Rev. Thomas E. Anderman officiating.

Frederick P. Seery

June 21, 1999

Frederick P. Seery, age 87, of Kunkletown, died Monday, June 21, at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Anna (Marchek) Seery. They had been married 60 years.

Born in New York City, N.Y., he was the son of the late Patrick and Agnes Seery. He had worked as a heli-arc welder for Northern Studio's of New York for 30 years, retiring in 1974.

He was a National Guard World War II veteran.

He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gilbert.

In addition to his wife Anna, he is survived by a son, Richard Seery of West Nyack, N.Y.; a sister, Agnes Kernan of New Rochelle, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Frederick Seery Jr.; and a daughter, Patricia Perri.

Funeral services will begin 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 24, at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home Inc., Route 209, Gilbert. Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gilbert, with the Rev. Father William McCawley as celebrant.

Interment will be in the Buena Vista Cemetery in Brodheadsville.

Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Pocono Medical Center Nurses Association, 206 East Brown Street, East Stroudsburg, Pa.

Memorial Services for John David Holdren, 78, of Greentown, who died November 14, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Scranton, will be held Sunday, June 27, in the LaAnna United Methodist Church, Route 191, LaAnna. The Rev. Nathan R. Gilpin, Pastor, will officiate.

Dave was an Army Veteran of WW II; a member and past president of the Tobyhanna Newfoundland Lions Club; past commander and Judge Advocate of Post 859 American Legion, Newfoundland; and past president of the Wayne Pike Tavern Assoc.

Dave had owned and operated Holdren's Garage in Newfoundland from 1950 to 1966. He also owned and operated the Golden Horn Restaurant and Bar in Greentown until 1974.

Memorial remembrances may be made to The Tobyhanna-Newfoundland Lions Club, 36 Locust Lane, Tobyhanna, PA 18466 or Post 859 American Legion, P.O. Box 93, Newfoundland, PA 18445.

Post 859 American Legion will provide Military Honors at the Memorial Service.

June 22, 1999

John M. Henshaw, 74, died Tuesday, June 22, in the Northeast Pennsylvania Veterans Center, Scranton.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late John and Amelia "Mollie" (Grahamer) Henshaw. He was educated in Scranton schools and formerly lived in Stroudsburg for fifty years. He had worked in security for Sheriff Forest Sebring, the YMCA, Pocono Medical Center, and had retired from Skytop in 1990.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, Stroudsburg.

Surviving are a brother, Edwin Henshaw of Scranton; a niece and nephews. A sister, Mary Henshaw Law preceded him in death.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.

Kris Charles Kissling

June 22, 1999

Kris Charles Kissling, 48, of Tannersville, died Tuesday at home. He was the husband of Faye (Bonser) Kissling, at home.

Born on December 25, 1950, in the Republic of Panama, he was the son of the late Charles Henry and Violetta Margaret (Endrichs) Kissling. Kris resided in the Panana Canal Zone before moving to the Poconos at the age of sixteen.

He was a 1970 graduate of Pocono Mountain High School and had worked as a landscaper most of his life, first for Ross and Ross Nursery in the late 1960's and early 1970's; had been employed by Penn Hills Resort in Stroud Township; and worked as a seasonal night ski lift attendant at Camelback Ski Area in Tannersville for the past 22 years.

Kris was a long time member of the National Rifle Association; enjoyed the outdoors, nature and animals; and most of all, his yard and hammock.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Koley; a son, Kolby; a sister, Charlett and several nieces, nephews and cousins in Florida and the Poconos.

At the request of the family, there will be no services. Friends are encouraged to remember Kris in prayer.

Norman E. Hendrickson

June 24, 1999

Norman E. Hendrickson, 83, of Saylorsburg, died Thursday, June 24, in the Easton Nursing Center in Easton. He was the husband of the late Doris Whitley.

Born on May 28, 1916, in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late David and Dora (Garobrandt) Hendrickson. He was a resident of Monroe County for the past 16 years.

He worked for the Smith Typewriter City in East Orange, N.J., for 20 years and was the vice president of the company.

He was a Veteran of World War II, C.B.'s. He was a member of the American Legion in Wind Gap and a member of the V.F.W. in Gilbert.

He is survived by one daughter, Doreen Katz of Kunkletown; one son, Norman D. Hendrickson of McMikles; six grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg, on Tuesday, June 29, at 1:30 p.m. Reverend Raymond Poortstra will be officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects Tuesday, June 29, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services.

Cremation will take place at Arlington Crematory in Whitehall Township.

At the request of the family, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society of Monroe County, RD 2, Box 2138, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
