Romanchick, Mary

January 7, 2000

Mary C. Romanchick, 82, of Huntsville Road in Dallas, died Friday in the Meadows Nursing Center in Dallas.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Kornova.

She was a graduate of the Wilkes-Barre schools.

She resided in Dallas most of her life.

Prior to retiring she was employed by Prestige Shoe Factory in Wilkes-Barre.

She was a member of Gate of Heaven Church in Dallas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; stepfather, Michael Bolovicz; sisters , Anastasia Patrick and Anna Kornova.

Surviving are sons , Peter Jr., Moneta, Va.; Robert, Scranton; Myron, Harveys Lake; daughters , Nancy Jacobs and Marlene Barber, of Dallas; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, 672 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Gate of Heaven Church.

Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park in Dallas.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Rominski, Stanley

April 3, 2000

Stanley E. Rominski, of Laird Street, Wilkes-Barre died Monday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Hanover Township, he was a son of the late John and Frances (Gebec) Rominski. He attended Hanover Area schools and was a 1950 graduate of Hanover High School. He worked at the Tobyhanna Army Depot. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, East Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph; and sister, Catherine Fox.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Margaret; sister, Monica Holub, West Nanticoke, Plymouth Township; and brothers , Edward, Glen Lyon section of Newport Township; and Gregory, Korn Crest section of Hanover Township; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Michael J. Mikelski Funeral Home, 293 S. River St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Madeline Roote

May 20, 1998

Madeline C. Roote of West Eighth Street, Wyoming, died Wednesday at home.

Born in Throop, she was raised in Swoyersville and lived the last 49 years in West Wyoming.

She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Petruska Baransky and attended St. John Nepomucene School in Luzerne.

Before she retired, she was employed at General Cigar.

She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, West Wyoming.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Michele; a granddaughter, Jennifer; sisters , Margaret Vacula, Mary Urevitch and Pauline Bowalick.

Surviving are her husband, Richard; sons , Leonard, Tunkhannock; Richard, Thurston Hollow; Jerrold and Clifford, both of Nanticoke; Daniel, Tunkhannock; John, Greene, N.Y.; Robert, Falls; daughters , Alyce Kuzma, Swoyersville; Madelyn Roote, Trucksville, Kingston Township; sisters , Rita Evanko, Trenton, N.J.; 27 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Joseph L. Wroblewski Funeral Home, 1422 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Sorrows Church. The Rev. Michael J. Rafferty will officiate.

Interment will be in St. John Nepomucene Cemetery, Courtdale.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

DAVID ROVINSKI

David A. Rovinski, 44, of Phillips Street in Hanover Township.

Born Nov. 26, 1954 in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of Rita (Desiderio) Rovinski and the late Stanley Rovinski.

He was a 1972 graduate of Hanover High School and had attended Luzerne County Community College.

He was employed by Guyette Communications in Larksville. He also worked for many years with Enterprise Aluminum Products in Hanover Township and with Klien Autoparts in Wilkes-Barre and Nanticoke.

He was a member of St. Aloysius Church on Barney Street in Wilkes-Barre, where he had attended the parish elementary school and had served as an altar boy.

Surviving, in addition to his mother , are his brothers , Tony Rovinski, West Hazleton; and Stanley Rovinski and Mark Rovinski, both of Hanover Township; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the James M. Desiderio Funeral Home Inc., 2 Academy Road, Marion Terrace, Hanover Township with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Memorial donations may be made to the family.

Susan Rowlands

April 19, 1998

Susan Rowlands, of Swoyersville, died Sunday at the Summit Health Care Center, Wilkes-Barre.

Funeral arrangements are pending from the William A. Reese Funeral Chapel, rear 56 Gaylord Ave., Plymouth.

JOSEPH ROZITSKI

April 9, 1999

Joseph Rozitski, of Everson, Wash., died April 9 at his home.

Born in Ashley, he was the son of the late John and Magdalina (Kemsal) Rozitski.

He operated a cleaning business in Ashley and worked for Bellingham Shipyards in Washington .

He married Jean Andriff in Sugar Notch, and the couple later moved to Washington .

He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Washington .

He was preceded in death by sisters , Helen Stewart, Anna Fritz and Stephanie Tomsak.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 52 years, are a daughter, Sandra, Washington ; brothers , Chester Rozitski, New Jersey; Frank Rozitski, Ashley; sisters , Stella Benoski, Ashley; Regina Kapustensky, Lee Park section of Hanover Township; two grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were held from the Westford Funeral Home, Bellingham, Wash. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1585 of Washington conducted military honors.

Interment was in Nook Sack Cemetery in Washington .

STANLEY RUSHEFSKI

April 26, 1999

Stanley P. Rushefski, 65, of Franklin Street in Old Forge died Monday at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton.

Born in Old Forge, he was a son of the late Andrew and Tekla (Augustinski) Rushefski. He was a lifelong resident of Old Forge.

He was a 1951 graduate of Old Forge High School and was also a graduate of Johnson Technical School in Scranton.

He was employed by the Old Forge School District. For the past 41 years, he had been a Fuller Brush district manager.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, having served in North Africa.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Old Forge, and a member of the parish choir.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew, and sisters , Rose Viteck and Mary Nycz.

Surviving are his wife, the former Celestine Kurta, whom he married July 3, 1954; sons , Stanley, Old Forge; Paul, Newtown, Conn.; John, Scranton; and Mark, University Park; daughter, Celeste Conrad, Scranton; eight grandchildren; brothers , Frank and Joseph, both of Old Forge, Charles, Chinchilla; and Michael, San Antonio, Texas ; and sisters , Tekla Kuchinski, Minooka; Stella Materazzi and Theresa Zupko, both of Old Forge.

Funeral services will be Thursday at a time to be announced from the Palermo & Zawacki Funeral Home, Inc., 409 N. Main St., Old Forge, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Stanislaus Church in Old Forge.

Interment will be in the parish cemetery in Old Forge.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

RUSNAK, CARL

November 5, 1999

Carl Rusnak, of Elm Crest Drive in Dallas died Friday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Swoyersville, he was a son of the late Andrew and Julia (Fosko) Rusnak. He was a 1941 graduate of Swoyersville High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, having served in the European Theater.

Before his retirement, he was employed by Sterling Enterprise.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Church in Swoyersville, a member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 283 in Kingston, and a member of the military Order of the Cooties, the American Legion in Dallas and the Disabled American Veterans.

He was preceded in death by his sisters , Mary Gaydos, Anna Peregrini, Adele Stockwell and Margaret Bissett.

Surviving are his wife, the former Rita Kmetz; daughters , Susan Long, Huron, Ohio; and Jeanne Fehskens, Spring Valley, Ohio; four grandsons; sisters , Helen Ropel, North Carolina; Gizella Boiwka, Milton; and Agnes Shumack, Swoyersville; brothers , Andrew, Detroit; and Joseph, Upper Montclair, N.J.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday from the Lehman-Gregory Funeral Home, Inc., 281 Chapel St., Swoyersville, with a Mass of Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Dallas.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Parastas services will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the World War II Memorial Fund.

Russ, Emma

April 12, 2000

Emma M. Russ, 97, of Marion Street, Marion Terrace, Hanover Township, died Wednesday at Birchwood Nursing Center, Nanticoke.

Born April 7, 1903, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Elias and Ellen (Mooney) Sherry. She was a housewife and member of Christ United Presbyterian Church, Lee Park Avenue, Hanover Township.

Surviving are her son, Larry Russ, Marion Terrace, Hanover Township; two granddaughters, one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; brothers , Harry, Frank, Tom, and William; and sisters , Lillian and Jeanette.

Funeral services will he at 11 a.m. Friday from the James Desiderio Funeral Home, Inc., 2 Academy Road, Marion Terrace, Hanover Township, with the Rev. Robert Boyar officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township, Wilkes-Barre. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
