GENARO GROCCIA
Genaro "John" Groccia, 86, formerly of Marion Street, Westerly, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at the Westerly Health Center. He was the beloved husband of Anna (Greco) Groccia, who died Jan. 28, 2001.

Born in Westerly, April 9, 1914, he was the son of the late Carmine and Lizzie (Ritacca) Groccia. At the age of 12, he moved to Acri, Italy, and returned to Westerly in 1960. While in Italy, he served with the Italian Army.

He was employed at American Velvet in Stonington and then worked for the Town of Westerly Public Works Department, retiring in 1979.

Surviving are two sons, Charlie Groccia of Westerly and Tony Groccia of Luzzi, Italy; three daughters, Maria Piluso, Adelina DeSantis and Elvira Sposato, all of Westerly; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Antonietta Scarpelli in 1974; and a sister, Louise Guido.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 111 High St., Westerly. Burial will follow in St. Sebastian Cemetery. There is no procession from the funeral home. Visiting hours in the Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home, 64 Friendship St., are today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

GLORIA FIDRYCH
Gloria Helen (Reid) Fidrych, 78, of Stonington died Thursday morning, April 19, 2001, at The Westerly Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Edward Fidrych, whom she married in Mystic on April 24, 1943.

Born in Westerly, March 28, 1923, a daughter of the late Walter and Amelia (Lawrence) Reid, she graduated from Stonington High School in 1942.

Mrs. Fidrych had been employed as a teacher's aide in the Stonington school system.

She loved cooking, gardening, and at one time was a talented seamstress. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and the traveling they did together. She will be remembered for her kind, thoughtful and quiet nature and for her sense of humor.

In addition to her husband, she leaves a daughter, Karen Tozier of Waterville, Maine; two sons and daughters-in-law, John "Jack" and Leda Stanley Fidrych of North Stonington and Karl and Laurie Gendron Fidrych of Providence; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Kristopher and Joshua Tozier of Waterville and Tia and Will Fidrych of North Stonington; and a brother and sister-in-law William and Angie Reid of Leominster, Mass.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Jack and Walter Reid; and her stepfather, John Rix.

Graveside services will be held in the Stonington Cemetery, North Main Street, Stonington, Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends may call at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic, from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Contributions in her memory may be made to The Westerly Hospital Foundation, 26 Wells St., Westerly, RI 02891.

GEORGE H. CONKLIN
George H. Conklin, 81, of 6 High Meadow Drive, Westerly, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 24, 2001, at his residence. He was the beloved husband of 52 years of Josephine (Servidio) Conklin.

Born March 2, 1920, in Mystic, the son of the late Russell L. and Anna T. Conklin, he was a graduate of the Robert E. Fitch High School.

Mr. Conklin was the former owner and operator of Rollinson's Market in Mystic. In his younger years, he became an Eagle Scout with the Boys Scouts of America, and he remained active in their organization. He served in the United States Armed Forces overseas, during World War II for three years. He was a communicant of St. Pius X Church, Westerly.

Surviving besides his wife is a daughter, Anne C. Thomas of Hendersonville, N.C.; a son, William K. Conklin of Benson, Texas; and four grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Pius X Church, 45 Elm St. There is no procession from the funeral home. Visiting hours will be in The Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home, 64 Friendship St., on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Pius X Parish Endowment Fund, c/o St. Pius X Church, 45 Elm St., Westerly, RI 02891.

EUGENE BOZEK

Eugene Bozek, 86, a former meat manager, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, in Westerly.

Mr. Bozek was the husband of the late Barbara Livingstone Bozek, his wife of 55 years. Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Stanislaw and Veronica (Kaczanska) Bozek.

Mr. Bozek leaves two sons, Stanley L. Bozek of Westerly and Eugene R. Bozek of San Antonio, Texas; grandsons Adam Bozek of Rye, N.Y., and Dean Bozek of Westerly; a great-granddaughter, Katherine Bozek of Rye, N.Y.; a sister, Irene (Bozek) Walas of Pawtucket; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bozek was the father of the late Brian J. Bozek and brother of the late Alexandria (Bozek) Puchalski.

Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in the River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.

DAVID E. MEYER

David E. "Cowboy" Meyer, 64, of 10 Clark St., Westerly, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Kent County Hospital, Warwick.

Born in Manchester, Conn., Oct. 9, 1937, he was a son of the late Lester and Gertrude Meyer.

Mr. Meyer had been employed as a machinist at General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division, Groton, where he was also a union steward. He was also employed with the State of Connecticut in the emissions department.

He is survived by a stepson, Kenneth Upton of Westerly; a stepdaughter, Jane Hulsopple of New York; a brother, William Meyer of Connecticut; and an aunt, Fran Gribbs of California.

The funeral service and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no visiting hours. The Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly, is in charge of arrangements.

BRENDA B.TEXTER

Brenda B. (Bliven) Clark Texter of 6 Sunnyside Drive, Westerly, beloved wife of Eugene C. Texter, Jr., died June 4, 2002, in Westerly She was also the wife of the late Louis E. Clark.

Born in Westerly on Jan. 4, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Russell. P. and Edna K. (Kissick) Bliven. She married Eugene Texter Jr. in Westerly on May 8, 1993.

She will be remembered by her many friends and family for her infectious smile, kind spirit and loyal friendship.

She worked as a Certified Professional, Insurance Agent, retiring in 1997 from Starkweather & Shepley Inc. in Westerly.

She was a member of the New London County Association of Insurance Women. She was Past Worthy Advisor of Westerly Assembly, Order of Rainbow for Girls; a member of Deborah Chapter No. 9 Order of Eastern Star, Past Matron in 1968; member of the Westerly Alumnae, Grand Cross of Color Order of Rainbow for Girls, and Napatree Business & Professional Women.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother Lance R. Bliven of California; a stepdaughter Tracey Boatman of Turbotville, Pa.; two stepsons, Mark Texter of Westerly and Eugene Texter of Providence; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Funeral service will be Friday at noon at Christ Episcopal Church, 7 Elm St., Westerly. Burial will be in River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory be made to Hospice Care of RI, South County Office, 143 Main St., Wakefield, RI 02880 or to Christ Episcopal Church, 7 Elm St., Westerly, RI 02891 or to Pawcatuck Masonic Temple A.F. & A.M., 22 Pequot Trail, Pawcatuck, CT 06379.

HELEN NOVAK

Helen (Dziekonski) Novak, 83, of 12 Canob Lane, Richmond, wife of the late Brunel P. Novak, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at the Westerly Health Center.

Born in Hopkinton, on Nov. 18, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Pearl (Blendarz) Dziekonski.

Mrs. Novak had been an inspector at the Ashaway Line and Twine for many years before retiring. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Hope Valley.

She was the loving mother of Richard T. Novak of Westerly and Theresa Duprey of Hope Valley. She is also survived by six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her cousin, Sophie Pellegrino of Westerly; a brother-in-law, Chester Novak of Riverside, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

A son, Edward P. Novak, who died in 1989; and a sister Anna Szestowicki, predeceased her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Main Street, Hope Valley. There is no procession from the funeral home. Burial will be in Wood River Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday are from 5 to 8 p.m. in the S.R. Avery Funeral Home, Main Street, Hope Valley.
