MARGARET A. TAYLOR - Newport

MARGARET A. TAYLOR, 76, of the Heatherwood Health Care Center, formerly of 14 Beacon Terrace, Middletown, died Sunday at the center. She was the widow of Albert Junior Taylor.

Born in Newport, she was a daughter of the late Herman C. and Marie C. (Guise) Richter.

She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. Mrs. Taylor was a member of the Middletown Historical Society, the Point Associaton and the Newport Horseman's Association.

She leaves a daughter, Catherine Taylor Rodrigues of Portsmouth, and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. in St. Peter Lutheran Church, Broadway. Burial will be in Island Cemetery Annex.

AMELIA GEORGE - Seekonk

AMELIA GEORGE, 91, of Taunton Avenue, owner with her husband of the former Normandy Lounge in Seekonk for 50 years before retiring, died Monday at the Evergreen House Health Center in East Providence. She was widow of Joseph L. George.

Born in Boston, Mass., a daughter of the late John and Helen (George) Dominick, she had lived in Seekonk all of her life.

She was a communicant of St. George Maronite Church in Pawtucket. In the early 1900s, she was a friend and neighbor of Kahlil Gibran, the Lebanese mystic, poet and artist.

She leaves a son, Robert George of Seekonk; two daughters, Agnes Khouri and J. Katherine Whittum, both of East Providence; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Elizabeth Reale.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 11 a.m. at St. George Maronite Church, Main Street, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Mount St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.

CLARENCE C. SOUZA - South Kingstown

CLARENCE C. SOUZA, 83, of 42 Windgate Rd., a maintenance worker at Davol Inc. in Cranston for 30 years before retiring in 1978, died yesterday at home. He was the husband of Audrey (Raiche) Souza.

Born in Middletown, a son of the late Manuel and Clara (Rezendes) Souza, he had lived in Warwick before moving to South Kingstown three years ago.

Mr. Souza was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater, and in the African Campaign. He was a member of Christ the King Church in Kingston.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Edna S. Gothberg of Wakefield; two brothers, Albert Souza of Middletown and Louis Souza of Newport; a sister, Emily Rodrigues of Newport; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters.

The funeral will be held Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Christ the King Church, Old North Road, Kingston. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.

EVERETT A. THURSTON Jr. - Swansea

EVERETT A. THURSTON Jr., 88, of Wood Street, supervisor of drafting at Brown & Sharpe Mfg. Co. in Providence for 40 years, retiring in 1976, died yesterday in the Country Gardens Nursing Center. He was the husband of Amelia R. (Crowe) Thurston.

Born in Swansea, a son of the late Everett A. Thurston Sr. and the late Amelia (Farrell) Thurston, he had lived in Swansea all of his life.

He was a member of Christ Church in Swansea. Mr. Thurston was a past master of the Swansea Grange, 148 Parents of Husbandry; a member of the Bay State Pamona, the Massachusetts State Grange and the National Grange. He was a member and honorary captain of the volunteer fire department and was the last surviving founder of the department.

He was a member of the former John Wood Players of Swansea and was active in both the Boys Scouts and in the Swansea Parent Teachers Association.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Robert E. Thurston of East Hartford, Conn.; a daughter, Annie A. Spence of Pine Island, Fla., and Narragansett; two stepsons, John Crowe of Austin, Texas, and Thomas Crowe of Norton, Mass; a brother, Anthony Thurston of Boylston, Mass; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren. He was the brother of the late Grace Estey.

The funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, with a service at 11 a.m. in Christ Church, Swansea. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Swansea.

PETER S. ASHMAN - Warren

PETER S. ASHMAN, 59, of Child Street, a sergeant serving on the Barrington Police Department, died Sunday at home.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Harry and Evelyn (Stonaker) Ashman, he had lived in Barrington for most of his life, before moving to Warren.

He joined the Barrington Police Department as a patrolman in 1961. After attending the University of Rhode Island, Division of Criminalistics and Criminal Investigations, he established the first Criminology Detective Division for the department. He retired as a sergeant and prosecution officer in 1990.

He was an Air Force veteran from 1956 to 1961, and was recalled to serve during the Bay of Pigs invasion. He was a graduate of Barrington High School and Salve Regina College.

He leaves three sons, Richard P. Ashman of Fall River, Mass., Robert P. Ashman of Warwick and William E. Ashman of East Providence; a daughter, Nanci-Ann Ashman-Butler of Warwick; and four grandchildren.

The funeral, with military honors, will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Ave., Riverside. Burial will be in Princess Hill Cemetery, Barrington.

RICHARD H. BROWN - Warwick

RICHARD H. BROWN, 76, of Kenway Avenue, an analyticial chemist at Natick Labs in Natick, Mass., for 20 years before retiring in 1972, died Monday at home. He was the husband of Mildred E. (Noel) Brown.

Born in Springfield, Mass., a son of the late Harold P. and Amy F. (Stone) Brown, he had lived in Warwick for 12 years, previously living in Natick and Longmeadow, Mass.

Mr. Brown was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a 1942 graduate of Brown University.

Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Richard H. Brown Jr., Robert H. Brown and William E. Brown, all of Warwick; a daughter, Dianne E. Simms of Aberdeen, Md.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Albert E. and Donald P. Brown, and the grandfather of the late Seneca N. Brown.

The funeral will be private.

ERNEST STANLEY OLIVER - Warwick

ERNEST STANLEY OLIVER, 77, of Myrtle Avenue, the owner and operator of Stan's Exxon on Post Road in the Greenwood section of Warwick, retiring in 1982, died yesterday at home. He was the husband of Dorothy J. (Vallette) Oliver.

Born in Stowe, Mass., he had lived in Providence before moving to Warwick in 1946. Mr. Oliver was an Army veteran of World War II.

Besides his wife, he leaves a sister, Irene E. Cook of Cranston.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.

ALEXANDER MORRIS - Warwick

ALEXANDER MORRIS, 80, of Atlantic Avenue, an electrician foreman for the former Schmidt Electric Company, Providence, for 40 years until retiring in 1982, died unexpectedly yesterday, at home. He was the husband of Eleanor F. (Galas) Morris.

Born in Brooklyn, Conn., a son of the late Vasily and Pailagy (Zwirko) Morris, he had lived in Providence before moving to Warwick 35 years ago.

Mr. Morris was a member of the electricans union and the Narragansett Salt Water Fishing Club.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Alan L. Morris of Allison Park, Pa., and Glenn J. Morris of London, Ontario, Canada; two brothers, Michael Morris of East Providence and John Morris of Raleigh, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 9 a.m. in the Frank P. Trainor & Sons Funeral Home, 982 Warwick Ave. Burial will be in the Ukranian American Cemetery, Bellingham, Mass.

MARY HARTFORD - Westerly

MARY HARTFORD, 86, of 47 Langworthy Rd., died yesterday at Westerly Hospital. She was the wife of the late Lewis Hartford.

Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Jean (Gordon) Brown.

She had worked at the former Beach Street Market and the Bradford Dyeing Association befre retiring.

She was a member of Dunn's Corners Community Church, Presbyterian, and was a member of the church's Women's Auxiliary. She had been a soloist at the Congregational Church formerly on West Broad Street.

She was an active volunteer in the Hospitality Shop at Westerly Hospital. She was a member of the Westerly Homemakers.

She leaves a son, James Rae of Westerly; a brother, William R. Brown of Watertown, N.Y.; 3 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Jane Perkins and sister of the late Joseph Brown.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Burial will be in River Bend Cemetery.

HELEN L. DALPE - Woonsocket

HELEN L. DALPE, 87, of the Beaumont Nursing Home, Northbridge, Mass., formerly of Wrentham Manor in Bellingham, died Monday at the nursing home. She was the wife of the late Sylvio Dalpe.

Born in Blackstone, a daughter of the late Eloie and Georgiana (Brodeur) Marchand, she lived at the nursing home for 5 years, formerly living in Bellingham for 65 years. Mrs. Dalpe was a communicant of Assumption Church in Bellingham.

She leaves two sons, Fernand A. Dalpe of Falmouth and Leo A. Dalpe of Bellingham; three daughters, Muriel Simmons of Blackstone, Jean Sutherland of Bellingham and Constance Paulhus of Woonsocket; a brother, Ambrose Marchand of Blackstone; 24 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Joseph, Roland and Raymond Dalpe, and the sister of the late Wilfred, Arthur, George, Omer Marchand, Blanche Roy, Irene Dalpe and Anita Giguere.

The funeral will be held Friday at 8 a.m. from the Cartier's Funeral Home, 151 S. Main St., Bellingham, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in Assumption Church, Moody Street, Bellingham. Burial will be in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham.
