Donna Hull, 45

Donna (Ferrara) Hull, 45, of Jamestown, died Thursday, June 7, at Newport Hospital after a brave eight-year fight with metastatic breast cancer. She was the wife of Matthew Hull for 13 years.

Born in Boston, a daughter of Frank Ferrara of Cumberland and the late Ann (Struzziery) Ferrara, she has been a resident of Jamestown since 1994.

Donna was a graduate of Fontbonne Academy in Milton, Mass. and received an associate's degree in business administration from Mt. Ida College in Newton, Mass.

She was an innkeeper in Newport prior to her recurrence of cancer. She was a member of the Healing Co-Op located in Middletown, a non-profit center dedicated to the support of women with cancer and the their families. Donna was a member of St. Mark Parish. She enjoyed living by the shore, cooking, gardening, shopping and making a home. She was an avid lover of animals, but most of all enjoyed the love and companionship of her chocolate lab Gibbs.

Besides her husband and father, she leaves two brothers, John and his wife, Maryellen, of Plainville, Mass., Matthew and his wife, Christine, of Florida; two nieces, Sarah Ann and Ellen Marie; beloved friends and family; and many breast friends from the Healing Co-Op.

Her funeral was held Monday at Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home and was followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mark Church. Burial was in St. Mark Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Healing Co-Op, 272 Mitchell's Lane, Middletown, RI 02842 will be appreciated.

Lucille K. Lawrence, 81

Lucille K. (Avery) Lawrence, 81, of Beacon Avenue, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Vanderbilt Rehabilitation Center of Newport Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Norman E. Lawrence, Sr. for 60 years.

Born in Cook County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late William and Alice Leola Pearl (Schoffield) Avery.

Mrs. Lawrence was a bookkeeper for Independent Life Insurance Company in Jacksonville, Fla. prior to her marriage and later worked as a school bus driver for the Jamestown School Department. For ten years she worked for Greta's Florist in North Kingstown. An active member of the Central Baptist Church, she was a member of the Shepherds, was a Sunday school teacher, treasurer and assisted with the landscaping. She was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Besides her husband she leaves six children, Timothy S. Lawrence and Janice C. Ryng-Dutton of Jamestown, Norman E. Lawrence, Jr. of Pennsylvania, George S. Lawrence of Everett, Wash., William A. Lawrence of New Bedford, Mass., Patricia S. Nascimento of Coventry; a brother, John A. Avery of Ray City, Ga.; a sister, Alice Frances Tatum of Jacksonville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by seven siblings.

A memorial service was held Tuesday at Central Baptist Church in Jamestown. Burial will be on Saturday in Brushy Creek Cemetery, Georgia. Arrangements were by Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Habitat for Humanity of RI, Greater Providence, Box 37, Providence, RI 02907 or the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd., St. 304, Warwick, RI 02886 will be appreciated.

Katherine J. Fredette, 62

Katherine Jane (Martin) Fredette, 62, of Narragansett, formerly of Jamestown and Cranston, died unexpectedly June 19 at South County Hospital.

Born in Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Suzanne (Thomas) and Luther Martin.

She was married to Anthony deWardener and John Fredette.

She spent her childhood in Westport, Conn. A graduate of Staples High School, she moved to Rhode Island to attend the University of Rhode Island.

She is survived by a son, Guy A. deWardener, a daughter, Danielle S. (deWardener) Dasta, both of Narragansett; two grandchildren, Reece and Zachary deWardener; a sister Janet Kaemmerling of California. She was the sister of the late Judith Teeney.

She lived in Jamestown for two decades before moving to Narragansett in 2003. She was a longtime employee of South County Hospital and South County Surgical Supply. She was an avid kayaker and raced cars when she was younger. She enjoyed life and worked very hard. She was loved by family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements were by the Avery-Storti Funeral Home. Donations in her memory may be made to the Lupus Foundation of New England, 40 Speen St., Suite 205, Framingham, MA 01701.

Barbara C. Walton, 82

Barbara C. Walton, 82, died July 6, 2007, in Marion, Indiana.

Born on June 21, 1925, in Jamestown, she was the daughter of the late Arthur S. and Nellie (Hoyle) Clarke. She was the wife of the late R. Lee Walton, M.D. who she married in 1950. She graduated in 1943 from Newport High School, and Rhode Island State Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She was a registered nurse working at Rhode Island State Hospital from 1946 to 1950. She then worked in the office of her husband, R. Lee Walton, M.D., from 1975 to 1992. Barbara volunteered at the Marion Community Clinic and Planned Parenthood. She was a member of Temple Congregational Church where she was active in the choir and with the Temple Chimes. She sang with the Sweet Adelines and led the Scholars in the Easter Pageant.

She is survived by sons, Richmond Lee Walton Jr. and wife, Tammy, of Carmel, Ind.; Jim Walton of New York City; Bob Walton, and wife Laurie, of New York City; daughters, Joan Walton of Mountain View, Cal.; Nancy Pierce and husband Steve, of Marion, Ind., and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Services were held yesterday in Indiana.

Thayer Eliason Roberts, 86

Thayer Eliason Roberts, 86, of Highland Drive, died Sunday, July 1, 2007. She as the wife of the late Edward Welsh Roberts.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa. on November 4, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Hiram B. and Helen (Marshall) Eliason.

She was a past president of the Junior League of Providence, Inc., the Jamestown Garden Club and the Jamestown Historical Society. She was a member of the Society of Colonial Dames in Rhode Island Providence Plantations, the Newport Historical Society, the Conanicut Island Art Association, the Jamestown Humane Society, the Jamestown Yacht Club, the Clam Bake Club of Newport, the Dunes Club, the Point Judith Country Club, the Hillsboro Club, the Perennial Planters Garden Club, the South County Garden Club and she had served on the finance committee of the Rhode Island Federation of Garden Clubs.

During World War II, she was a volunteer Red Cross nurse's aid at Rhode Island Hospital and later volunteered for many years in the recovery room at South County Hospital. She served on the board of Family Service, Inc., the Nursing Committee of the Providence District Nursing Association and as a board member of the John Hope Settlement House.

She leaves a son, Marston Whitin Keeler, Jr. and a daughter Elizabeth Thayer Keeler.

She was formerly married to the late Marston Whitin Keeler and the late George Sampson Squibb, Jr.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were made by Avery-Storti Funeral Home, Wakefield.

Marie F. Gallogly, 84

Marie F. Gallogly, RN, 84, of Jamestown and formerly of Cranston died July 2, 2007. She was the wife of the late Patrick J. Gallogly, Sr.

Born in Plainville, Conn., she was a daughter of the late John and Kathryn (O'Sullivan) Madden.

She is survived by five children: Kathleen A. Travis, Maureen L. Gallogly and Shawn M. Gallogly, all of Jamestown; Frances M. DeNofrio of East Greenwich and Patrick J. Gallogly, Jr. of West Greenwich; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held July 6 in Apponaug Pentecostal Church, Warwick. Burial was in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island.

John A. Hull, 71

John A. Hull Jr., 71, of 625 North Main Rd., Jamestown, died July 15, 2007 at home after a brief illness.

Born in Jamestown on Feb. 23, 1936, he was the son of the late John A. Hull Sr. and Mary (Marquis) Hull.

He was employed by Cedar Cemetery as a groundskeeper until his retirement in 1999. A lifelong island resident, he was an avid fisherman and quahogger.

He is survived by his two sisters, Diane Hull of Jamestown, and Hope Hull of Pawtucket; two nieces, one nephew and his beloved cat Frizzy.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, July 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Rd., North Kingstown.

Barbara S. Haggis, 87

Barbara S. (Mackewicz) Haggis, 87, of North Kingstown, formerly of Narragansett, passed away Friday, July 20, 2007, at Scalabrini Villa Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late William L. Haggis.

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Anton and Eva (Kravis) Mackewicz.

Mrs. Haggis worked for Coro Jewelry Company for many years before retiring. She was a former member of the St. Paul's Women's Club in Cranston.

She leaves four daughters, Joan A. Cashman and her husband, Bill, of Saunderstown, Carol J. Lavin and her husband, Kevin, of Narragansett, Janice B. Barron and her husband, Jim, of Jamestown and Barbara M. Thompson and her husband, Robert, of Saunderstown; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Julian Mackewicz and Ann Mahoney.

A memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 28, at 10 a.m. in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, RI Chapter, 245 Waterman St., Providence, RI 02906 will be appreciated. Arrangements were made by Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home.

Louise Brendlinger, 54

Louise Brendlinger, 54, of 178 West Reach Drive, Jamestown, died July 20, 2007, at home with her family. She was the wife of Richard Brendlinger and the mother of Tom, Michael and Lisa Brendlinger.

Born in Manchester, England, she had been a Jamestown resident for 16 years.

Besides her immediate family, she is survived by seven sisters and a brother, all in England.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 4, at Central Baptist Church, Narragansett Avenue in Jamestown at 2 p.m.

Louise bravely battled cancer and was with her loving family at the end. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Rhode Island Hospital.

Louise Brendlinger memorial service scheduled

A memorial service for Louise Brendlinger will be held Saturday, Aug. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Central Baptist Church on Narragansett Avenue.

Brendlinger, of 178 West Reach Drive in Jamestown, died July 20 at home with her family. She was the wife of Richard Brendlinger and the mother of Tom, Michael and Lisa.

A native of Manchester, UK, a parallel memorial service will be held for her English relatives and friends in London at the same time at St. Stephen's Church, Richmond Road, East Twickenham. A dinner will follow at the Petersham Hotel, Richmond.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Rhode Island Hospital.

Eleanor F. Maderia, 80

Eleanor F. (Keating) Maderia, 80, of Neptune Avenue died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at Village House & Rehabilitation Center, Newport. She was the wife of the late Arthur Maderia.

Born in Portland, Maine, the daughter of the late Clifford H. and Cleona M. (Degre) Keating, she had lived in Jamestown for many years.

She was a bus monitor, employed by the Town of Jamestown for more than 17 years, and was the recipient of a citation for her many years of dedicated service to the town. She was also employed as a parking attendant at Mackerel Cove Beach during the summer season.

She was a volunteer for the Threads of Love and was a communicant of St. Mark Church.

She is survived by her cousin, Joan Peltier and her husband Dr. Joseph Peltier of Warwick, and her step-brother, Robert Vorron of Maine.

A mass of Christian burial will be held today, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m. at St. Mark Church. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.

Arrangements were made by Nardolillo Funeral Home.

Philip Wharton memorial Aug. 31

A memorial celebration for Philip Wharton will be held Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at 2 p.m. in the Wharton's home, 615 Wakefield St., West Warwick.

Philip Wharton died suddenly on April 18, 2007 in Lake Placid, N.Y. He is survived by his parents, Leverett and Valerie Wharton; his sister, Mary Wharton of West Warwick; his grandmother, Mary Reynolds of Newport; his grandmother, Emmy Wharton of Stonington Conn.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Whiteface Mountain c/o the Philip Wharton Memorial Ski Foundation Fund, State Route 86, Lake Placid, N.Y. 12997.

Muriel E. Pratt, 92

Muriel E. (Bedal) Pratt, 92, formerly of Jamestown died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, at the Scandinavian Home in Cranston.

Born in Chicago, Ill., she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Vera (Yetter) Bedal.

Mrs. Pratt was a medical social worker at Roger Williams Medical Center before retiring.

She leaves two daughters, Dr. Karen (Stokes) Melucci of Jamestown and Rondelle (Stokes) Ruggiero of North Scituate; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Edwin Kelly and Delmar Bedal.

Her funeral service was held Aug. 18 at the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, in North Kingstown. Burial was in Cedar Cemetery, Jamestown.

Pauline F. Broad, 100

Pauline F. (Trask) Broad, 100, a resident of St. Clare Home in Newport, formerly of Pemberton

Apartments in Jamestown, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, at Newport Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Eric O. Broad.

Born in Spencer, Mass. on Aug. 16, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Carrie (Wiswell) Trask.

Mrs. Broad began working in the textile mill industry at the age of 14 and worked at various mills in the Woonsocket area. She and her husband, Eric, retired to Jamestown in 1974.

She is survived by her son, Donald J. Dupre of Jamestown, two grandsons, Michael B. Dupre of Jamestown, and Scott E. Dupre of Westerly, two great-granddaughters, Monique Dupre of Fall River, and Jillian Carmichael of Vermont, and her extended family at St. Clare Home in Newport who provided such warm and loving care.

She was the grandmother of the late Donald J. Dupre and the sister of the late Harry Trask.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Clare Home, 309 Spring Street, Newport, RI 02840.

Arrangements were by Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
