Bernadette M. Choiniere
January 18,2010

Bernadette M. Choiniere, 86, passed January 18th at the Pine Grove Health Center, Pascoag. She was the wife of the late Leo J. Choiniere.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Hermine (Girard) Asselin.
She had been employed for 25 years at Mark Steven before retiring in 1988 and had previously worked at the French Worsted in Woonsocket.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Bernadette was the sister of the late Hermas Asselin, Marcel Asselin, Jeannette Morrison and Cecile Henderson.
A service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Thursday, January 21st at 2pm in the Chapel of the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI.

Michael J. Kelley
January 17, 2010

Michael J. Kelley, 62, of Warwick, RI, died Sunday January 17, 2010 at Kent County Hospital. Born in Providence, RI, on March 29, 1947, he was the son of the late Thomas J and Mildred (Boudreau) Kelley. Michael was a veteran of the Viet Nam War.
He worked in the transportation industry for many years. He will be remembered for his inventive mind, love of antique cars and his generous spirit.
He is survived by three sisters, Joyce Kelley of East Greenwich RI, Patricia Goudreau of Wheaton MD and Anne Griffin of Tiverton RI and a brother Richard Kelley of California. He was the brother of the late Thomas Kelley of Payson, AZ and the late Mary Lou Smith of Madison, CT.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Jan 26 at 10 am in St. Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Ave, Warwick, RI.

Lawrence Covington Jr.
January 15, 2010

Lawrence Covington Jr., 67, passed January 15th, 2010. Born in North Carolina, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Ethel (Bass) Covington.

He was an Army Veteran of the Korean & Vietnam War, member of the American Legion, Armstrong Gladding Post 69, Otha Boone Elks Lodge, the Rod and Reel Fishermenâ's Club, as well as a founding member and secretary of Memorial for Black Veterans.

He is survived by: his companion Dorothy Fields of Providence; his children Beth Palmer-Benton of Richmond Virginia and Lawrence Covington III and wife Donna (Dahlstrom) Covington of Warwick; his stepchildren Beatrice, Louise, and Robert Clay of Providence; his grandchildren Madison A. Covington of Warwick, Keyanna Benton of Richmond Virginia; his step grandchildren, Kashia Clay of Providence, Stephanie Clay of Orlando Florida; his step great-grandchildren, Jaelen Jennings of Providence, Nadia, Andrew and Jadia Clay of Providence. Also, he is survived by his brother Oscar P. Covington and his wife Pauline (Harvey) Covington; his nephews Robert A. Covington and wife Isabel (Pimentel) Covington of East Providence, D. Kyle Covington and wife Teresa (Moriarty) Covington of Warwick, and Eric D. Covington of Warwick; his grand nieces Robin, Erica and Linsey Covington of East Providence, a cousin Edward Bethea and his wife Doreen Bethea of Providence. He was preceded in death by his stepson Randy Clay of Providence.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4-8pm.
Services will be held Thursday at 10am from the Keefe funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln followed by burial in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.

Scott Daviau
January 14, 2010

Scott Daviau, 39, of Grand Ave, passed after an 8 month battle with cancer.

Born in Providence he was a son of Joseph and Delores (Lanois) Daviau of Pawtucket.

He was a self employed window washer for many years.

Besides his parents he is survived by a daughter, Tiffany Daviau and his former wife Tracie Daviau and niece, Erica Daviau, all of Pawtucket. 3 brothers, Dwayne Daviau of Pawtucket, David Riley of Pawtucket and Michael Riley of Central Falls. 2 sisters, Sharon Lamire of South Carolina and Kimberly Connors of Florida, a half brother, Raymond Daviau, 2 half sisters, Pauline Hed and Donna Lewis all of Tennessee and several nieces and nephews He was the brother of the late Richard Riley.

His funeral will be held Monday at 9am from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln with a service in the Centenary United Methodist Church, 15 Sanford St, Attleboro at 10:30am. Relatives and friends invited, calling hours will be held Sunday 5-7pm.

Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to a scholarship fund for his daughter Tiffany, c/o PO Box 95, Lincoln RI 02865.

Amelia Rocha
January 9.2010

Amelia Rocha, 70, of Thomas Ave, passed peacefully, January 9, 2010 with her loving family by her side.
Born in Santiago, Cape Verde, a daughter of the late Domingos Rocha and Joana Lopes Cabral.
She is survived by a daughter and granddaughter, Ermelinda Cabral Vieira and Ineida Carvalho Anderson with whom she resided, a son, Altino Lopes Cabral of Cape Verde, a sister, Antonia Rocha, 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Emilio Cabral and Gracilindo Rocha.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday at 8:45am from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Jean Baptist, Quincy Ave, Pawtucket at 10am. Burial will follow.
Relatives and friends are invited, calling hours Monday 5-8pm.

Emily (Emma) Smithers
January 6, 2010

Emily (Emma) Smithers, daughter of the late Jennie and Walter King, was born March 25,1917 in Adamsville, SC and live there until the age of four.. Thereupon, she made her home in Laurinburg, NC and lived there until her early twenties. She eventually moved to Brooklyn, NY before finally settling in Providence, RI in 1978.

After a long and fruitful life, Emma died peacefully at home where her daughter in law and grand children deeply loved and cared for her until her death.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, the late Floyd Smithers. She bore no children from this union, however; one child the late Nathaniel Jones Jr.) from a previous union by the late Nathaniel Jones Sr.

She raised two nephews as her own: the late Johnny King Jr. and Howard King of Long Island, NY.
Twelve siblings:
Six sisters: Louise Davis, Rose Gay, Manda King, Lizzie King, Flora King, and Elizabeth Covington.
Six brothers: Walter King Jr., Herbert king, William King, Johnny King, James King and Douglas King; All preceded her in death.

On Wednesday, January 6, 2010, God saw fit to call her to eternal peace.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories:
Two daughters in law, Catheryn Jones of Providence, RI and Theora King of Brooklyn, NY.

Eight grandchildren:
Four granddaughters: Priscilla Jones and Theresa Crum (Jeffry) of Providence, RI, Natalie Adams (Shaft) of Central Fall, RI, Yvonne King of Brooklyn, NY.
Four grandsons: Gregory Jones and Darron Jones (Rosi) of Providence, RI, John King III of Brooklyn, NY and the late Gregory King.

Fifteen great-grandchildren, eleven great, great grandchildren and a host of neices, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Wayne S. Ferland
January 5, 2010

Wayne S. Ferland, 53, passed Tuesday, January 5th, 2010 at the Evergreen Nursing Home.
Born in Central Falls, a son of Carol (Monfils) Ferland and the late Normand Ferland.
He had previously been employed by Carol Cable.
Beside his mother, he is survived by a son, Michael Ferland of Woonsocket, 3 brothers, Michael Ferland and Steven Ferland, both of Pawtucket and David Ferland of Florida, a sister, Sandra Rudman of Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
A committal service will be held Friday at 10am in the Chapel of St. Francis Cemetery, Smithfield Ave, Pawtucket.

Edmond Mendoza
January 5, 2010

Edmond Mendoza, 78, passed away peacefully at home on January 5th, 2010. He was the husband of June (Travers) Mendoza, they have been married for 49 years.
Born in Fall River, MA, a son of the late John and Irene (Mederios) Mendoza.
Besides his wife he is survived by nine children, Christine Carroll and her husband Robert, Edmond Mendoza Jr. and his wife Christine, Linda McGee and her companion Edward Gelinas, Cynthia Travers and her companion Edward Barlog, Joseph Mendoza, Robert Mendoza and his wife Johnna, Cheryl Coelho and her husband Walter, Gilbert Mendoza and his wife Lisa and William Mendoza. He is also survived by a brother, John Mendoza, a sister, Diane DaCosta ,15 Grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, a great- great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George Mendoza.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 5-8pm followed by a prayer service from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St, Providence RI 02904.
