Fernando Abreu
December 29, 2010

PAWTUCKET - Fernando Abreu, 75, of Pawtucket Avenue, Pawtucket, died December 27, 2010 at The Miriam Hospital in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Irene (Almeida) Abreu for 49 years. Mr. Abreu was born in Lisbon, Portugal, the son of the late Manuel and Irene (Dos Anjos) Abreu.
As a young adult, Mr. Abreu was a paratrooper in the Portuguese Air Force before moving to the US in 1962. He worked as a supervisor for RI Textile Company.
Besides his wife, Fernando leaves two brothers, Jose Francisco and his wife Rosa and Carlos Abreu.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Abreu in St. Mary's of the Immaculate Conception Church, 103 Pine Street, Pawtucket on Friday at 10:00 am. Calling hours are from 8:30 am in the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery, Pawtucket.

Robert W. Koziol

CUMBERLAND - Robert W. Koziol 68, of Diamond Hill Road passed away Monday December 27, 2010 at the Miriam Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Barbara(Astley) Koziol.
Born in Central Falls he was a son of Alice (Hobson) Koziol and the late Stanislaw Koziol. His guardian was the late Jennie Koziol. He was a life long resident of Cumberland.
Before retiring he was employed by the Town of Cumberland Housing Authority as a Master Electrician.
He was in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam conflict.
Mr. Koziol was a member of the Cumberland F.O.P.A. and a Past President of both the Cumberland Youth Baseball Association and the Cumberland High School Band Parents Association. He was an avid Orioles and Nascar fan and a big fan of Dale Earnhart.
Besides his wife he leaves 1 loving daughter Lisa A. Kosiol-Kenyon and her husband Michael, 1 brother Stanley Koziol and his wife Patricia. Dzia Dziu of Harry and Robert Kenyon all of Cumberland.
His funeral with Military Honors will be held Wednesday December 29, 2010 at 8:30 AM from the Karol A. Romenski & Sons Funeral Home 342 High Street Central Falls with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Aidan's Church 1460 Diamond Hill Road Cumberland at 10:00 AM. Calling hours Wednesday from 8:30 AM TO 9:30 AM. PLEASE OMIT FLOWERS.

Norman Y. Jackson Jr.
December 27, 2010

MAINE - Norman Y. Jackson Jr., 79, of Skowhegan, ME formerly of RI, died Thursday in Maine. He was the husband of Kathleen T. (Markee) Jackson. They had been married 44 years. Born in Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Norman Y. and Anna(Waterman) Jackson. He had been employed as a security officer for the Security Police of the US Postal Service until his retirement in 1989. Mr. Jackson was a Coast Guard veteran of the Korean War. He is also survived by his son Bernard Jackson and his wife Jennifer of Malden, MA and his brother Joseph Jackson and his wife Marie of Skowhegan, ME.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday (TODAY) at 8:30 am from the Lincoln Funeral Home, 1501 Lonsdale Ave., Lincoln, RI with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Joseph Church, Walcott St., Pawtucket. Burial will be in Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery, East Providence. Visitation is from 8:30 9:30 am Tuesday (TODAY).

Eva M. Ferland
November 30, 2010

PAWTUCKET - Eva M. Ferland, 98, of Pawtucket, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2010. She was the wife of the late Louis Ferland. Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Marianne (Drolet) Normand. She is survived by her children, Constance Lagerstrom, Muriel Chagnon, George Ferland, and Gloria Baribault;, a sister, Doris LaRose, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Anita LeBlanc, George Normand, and Alice Morgan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 10:30am in Jeanne Jugan Chapel, 964 Main Street, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Edward F. Doonan

WARWICK - Edward F. Doonan, Jr., age 65, of Warwick, died on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at his family's home in Cumberland after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Adrienne J. (Longtin) Doonan.
Born in Melbourne, Florida, the son of Edward F. Doonan, Sr. of Cumberland, and the late Vivian "Ma" Doonan, he lived in Pawtucket before moving to Warwick in 1979. He attended Holy Trinity School in Central Falls, and was a graduate of Cumberland High School and New England Institute of Anatomy in Boston.
Mr. Doonan was a funeral director and embalmer for over 40 years, and was associated with the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home in Warwick for the last 33 years, and the Potvin & Cotter Funeral Home in West Warwick for the last 17 years. He was a member of the Rhode Island Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, Warwick Council # 2295 Knights of Columbus, and Father Wallace Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a communicant of St. Timothy Church in Warwick.
Besides his father, he is survived by two daughters, Lori-Ann Amoroso of Warwick and Jessica R. Alexander of Canton, GA; a son, Edward F. Doonan, III of Woonsocket; a sister, Susan R. Doonan of Cumberland; and five grandchildren.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, December 2, at 9 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Timothy Church, 1799 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Visiting hours are Wednesday 4-8 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.

Alice Wunsch
November 30, 2010

PAWTUCKET - Alice (Osowski) Wunsch, 95, formerly of Cameron St., Pawtucket, died peacefully on November 26, 2010 at her home at Pawtucket Skilled Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Donald I. Wunsch.
Born in Pawtucket, November 2, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Aleksander and Balbina (Kurpiewska) Osowski.
She was a former employee of First National Stores.
Alice is survived by her stepson Wayne Wunsch and his wife Diane of Narragansett; a niece, Sandra Gillooly and her husband John of Warwick; nephews Ronald Osowski of Florida and Stanley Osowski, Jr. of New Jersey; two step grandsons and several great nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Bernard Wallace, Stanley Osowski and Anthony Osowski.
A memorial service will be held at the Swan Point Cemetery Chapel on December 1, 2010 at 11:00.

Jeannette C. Morel

EAST PROVIDENCE - Jeannette C. Morel, 94, died peacefully at the East Bay Manor surrounded by her many friends. She was the loving and much loved wife of the late Normand R. Morel and lived in Pawtucket for 60 years. The daughter of Wilbrud and Maria (Courtemanche) Forand. "Jean" was born and raised in Fall River, MA. She retired from Sanford Gold & Co. after 40 years as a bookkeeper. After retirement, Jean and Normand spent many happy years in service to St. Edward's Parish in Pawtucket. Jeannette is survived by her daughter Denise Morel of Riverside, and her nieces and nephews Claudette Sortino, Paul Renaud, Russell Renaud, Jeanne Wilkens, Roger Forand and Richard Forand. A funeral service will be held at the Merrick R. Williams Funeral Home 530 Smithfield Ave. Pawt. Thursday at 9am with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Edward's Church Weeden St. Pawt. Calling Hours Wednesday 4-7pm. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery Pawt. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI 1085 North Main St.Providence, RI 02904 and/or St. Edward's Church.

Maria A. Almeida

FALL RIVER - Beloved mother and Grandmother Maria "Mimi" A. Almeida, 91, entered into the loving arms of the Lord on Sunday, November 28, 2010. She was the wife of Armando Almeida. Born in Fall River, MA and having lived over 70 years in Somerset, MA, she was the daughter of the late Henrique B. and Candida (dos Reis)Albuquerque. Mrs. Almeida attended school in Portugal and in Fall River. She worked diligently as a sewing machine operator in various garment factories and also at Firestone Rubber during World War II. One of the original founding members of the Prince Henry Monument Society of Fall River, MA she was deemed Miss Portugal 1940. She was member of the ILGWU, the Portuguese Continental Society, and the Portuguese Benevolent Society.
She was a communicant of St. John of God Church. She was devoted entirely to her family, especially her granddaughter Lia. Maria was an incredible cook. Tia Mimis' quahogs will be greatly missed. She enjoyed crocheting, dancing, listening to music, giving out free hugs and kisses and being with her loved ones. Always quick to smile, she could bring you to laughter in the most serious of situations. She also loved to share her knowledge of the late movie star Carmen Miranda, of whom she was always a great fan. She is survived by her devoted husband Armando, her daughter Rita (Almeida) Pimento and son-in-law Ray of Somerset MA., her granddaughter, her "Sweetheart" Lia Victoria Pimento. Also surviving are her sisters-in law and brothers-in-law Aurora and Jose Ferreira of Fall River, Ana and Amaro Nunes of Portugal, Lidia Almeida of Brazil, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Armando Albuquerque. Friends and family are asked to join in the funeral mass Thursday at 10:00 a.m., gathering directly at St. John of God Church, with interment to follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Somerset. There are no calling hours.

Antonio Alves

PAWTUCKET - Antonio Alves, 89, passed away Saturday in the Pawtucket Health Care Center, Pawtucket surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Laurentina Albuquerque.
Born in Vila Real, Portugal he was the son of the late Jose and Anunciacao (de Sousa) Alves. He moved to this country 25 years ago, settling in Pawtucket.
He leaves two sons, Jose F. Alves and his wife (Lucia) of Pawtucket and Sergio M. Alves and his wife Anamaria of Cumberland; two brother Francisco Alves and Mario Alves both of Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held Thursday, 5-8 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will take place in the Town Cemetery of Real, Portugal.

CENTRAL FALLS - John Kopec 96, of Hunt Street passed away Thursday November 25, 2010 at Harris Health Care North.
Born in New Bedford, MA he was a son of the late Antoni and Zophia (Sztaba) Kopic. He lived in Central Falls for the past 40 years and was formerly of the Valley Falls section of Cumberland.
Before retiring he was employed as a Machine Operator for Standard Nut & Bolt Manufacturing Co. of Cumberland for many years.
He was a WWII Army Veteran serving in the Southern Philippines with the 226th Field Artillery Battalion Battery C.
He leaves one sister Amelia S. Ruszala of Central Falls, nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Stanley, Matthew, Walter and Frederick Kopec.
A PRIVATE FUNERAL with Military Honors will be held Tuesday November 30, 2010 at the convenience of the family. PLEASE OMIT FLOWERS.

SOUTH ATTLEBORO - Doris R. "Mema" (Lavallee) Gervais, 77, a retired hairdresser, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 27, 2010. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph E. "Pe-Pa” Gervais, Sr.
Born in Central Falls, a daughter of the late Alexander and Rose (Lemire) Lavallee, she resided in South Attleboro for over fifty years.
Dot and her late husband wintered in Cape Coral, Florida for twenty- five years. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dot enjoyed Twin Rivers, Foxwoods, playing cribbage and luncheons with her friends. She loved all animals, especially her dogs.
She leaves three children, Kathy Risser and her husband John of Attleboro, Joe Gervais and Lynne of Osprey, Florida and Tracey Barry of Attleboro; a former daughter-in-law, Vicky Gervais; five grandchildren, Nikki Farrell and her husband Tim, Shane Barry, Joseph Barry, Kelly Pendleton and Kristen Golden; seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Madysen, Madison, Brittany, Justin, Emily and Brayden; four sisters, Jeanne Armfield of Central Falls, Claire Haskell of Newport, Pauline Swiech of Cranston and Rose Ferland of Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Theresa Paquette, Roland, Raymond, Leo, Roger and Henry Lavallee.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church, 18 Baltic St., South Attleboro. Interment will follow at Newell Burying Ground, South Attleboro. VISITATION will be Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m.

PAWTUCKET - Robert L. Palmer, 76, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2010. He was the beloved husband of the late Doris L. (Dubois) Palmer. Born in Central Falls, the son of the late Leo F. and Albertine I. (Begin) Palmer, he resided in Pawtucket most of his life.
Bob served in the U.S. Army and enjoyed boating. He leaves a son, Loren R. Palmer and his wife Laurie of Johnston and four granddaughters.
His funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Teresa Church, 358 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. Interment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery. VISITATION will be today, Monday 4 to 7 p.m.
