Doris Buchanan
Owned Country Treasures Gift Shop

Doris (Lemieux) Buchanan, 74, of North Main Street, Fall River, formerly of Alicia Circle, Tiverton, died on Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at the Sarah Brayton Nursing Care Center. She was the wife of the late Raymond L. Buchanan Sr.

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Alcide and Jeannette (St. Pierre) Lemieux, she had lived in Tiverton, Fall River, Westport and Ocala, Fla.

Mrs. Buchanan had been employed by Kerr Mill, Edgar’s Department Stores, and Pickwick International. She owned and operated Country Treasures Gift Shop at Stafford Road and Pleasant Street, Fall River, and Route 177, Tiverton.

She leaves two sons, Raymond L. Buchanan amd Robbie "Bucky" Buchanan, both of Tiverton; a daughter, Karen Ferreira of Tiverton; a sister, Lucille Leitao of Ridgefield, Conn.; a brother, Normand J. Lemieux of Virginia Beach, Va.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Following cremation, a memorial Mass was held on Saturday, June 15, in Notre Dame Church, Fall River. Arrangements were by the Auclair Fuenral Home, Fall River.

Memorial donations may be made to Hudner Oncology Center, 795 Middle St., Fall River, MA 02724, or to Hospice Outreach, 502 Bedford St., Fall River, MA 02720.

Robert M. Kain
World War II and Korean War veteran

Robert M. Kain, 79, of 41 Baker Road, Portsmouth, died Wednesday, June 12 at home. He was the husband of the late Mildred (Thompson) Kain.

Born in Newport on December 24, 1922, Mr. Kain was the son of the late William P. and Deloria (Carrignan) Kain.

Mr. Kain worked at Quonset Point for over 30 years as a mechanical engineer, then for five years for the Newport Housing Authority. He was active with the Narragansett Council of the Boy Scouts of America for over 50 years. He was on the Eagle Board of Review, was the Cubmaster of Pack 24 of Coggeshall School for over 25 years and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Road.

Mr. Kain was also a United States Navy Veteran of the "Neutrality Patrol" in World War II and Korea. He was a member of the junior Chamber of Commerce, a life member of the Newport Lodge of Elks, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the D.A.V. and the Newport Yacht Club. He was a Sunday School teacher for over 10 years at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Newport.

Mr. Kain leaves a son, Capt. Robert T. Kain, U.S. Army retired, of Portsmouth; a daughter, Darlene Collins of Portsmouth; a brother, Leo Kain of Ellenton, Fla.; and four grandsons, Robert B., August M. and David M. Kain and Todd J. Collins.

He was the brother of the late William "Penny" Carrigan.

His funeral was held Monday, June 17 from the Connors Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial on St. Joseph’s Church in Newport. Burial was in Middletown Cemetery.

Donations may be made in his memory to the Portsmouth Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, P.O. Box 806, Portsmouth, RI 02871.

George Cayer

Owned Cayer & Son Used Furniture

George "Bud" Cayer, 68, of Fall River, died on Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Lowell, Mass.

Born in Fall River on Dec. 4, 1933, he was a son of the late Jane and Romeo Cayer. Mr. Cayer was the former owner of Cayer & Son Used Furniture in Fall River. He leaves four daughters, Jane Fenlon of Winthop, Mass., Ann Morin of Dracut, Gail Cayer of Tiverton, and Sarah Trenholme of Lakeville, Mass; three sons, Jeffrey Cayer, Matthew Cayer and Michael Cayer, all of Tiverton; a sister, Joan Mercier of Fall River; six grandchildren, Ashley Gordon, Max Romeo, Abigail Morin, Jeffrey and Jillian Cayer, Evan Cayer and a new grandchild due in July; and two nieces, Susan Patota and Nancy Isherwood.

Sadie Levesque
Holy Ghost communicant

Sadie Levesque, 82, of Alan Street, Tiverton, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at Newport Hospital. She was the wife of the late Benoit Levesque.

Born in Fall River, Mrs. Levesque was the daughter of the late Antone and Sadie (Faria) DaPonte. She had lived in Tiverton since 1959 after moving from Fall River.

She was a machine operator in the men’s clothing department at the former Darwood Manufacturing Company. She was a parishioner of Holy Ghost Church, a member of the Tiverton Senior Center and chorus and a member of the Sakonnet Club.

Mrs. Levesque is survived by a niece, Claudette Levrault of Fall River, and a godchild, Cynthia Koniecki of Tiverton.

Her funeral will be held Thursday, June 20, at 8:45 a.m. from the Hebert-Hathaway Funeral Home, 945 South Main St., Fall River, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church on Judson Street. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery in Fall River.

Emma Bullock
Lifelong Warren resident

Emma Bullock, 87, of 20 Libby Lane died Friday, June 14, at the home of her granddaughter, Laura Vincelette in Fall River.

She was the wife of the late Henry Bullock.

A lifelong Warren resident, she was a daughter of the late Adolphis and Eva (Bourassa) St. Onge.

Mrs. Bullock worked as an inspector at the former Converse rubber plant in Bristol before retiring.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and a member of the Kickemuit Village senior citizens group.

She leaves three daughters, Eva Brown of Bristol, Viola Silvia of Rocky Point, N.C., and Alice Solomito of Swansea; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was a sister of the late Arthur, Henry and Charles St. Onge.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday, June 19, at 11 a.m. in the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St. followed by burial in South Burial Ground.

Matthew S. Troiano
Leaves son in Warren

Matthew S. Troiano, 86, of 1259 Hope St., Bristol, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Silver Creek Manor in Bristol. He was the husband of Cecilia C. (Smusz) Troiano. They had been married 63 years.

Born in Bristol, he was a son of the late Matteo and Maria Josephine (Calderiso) Troiano. He was a lifelong Bristol resident.

Mr. Troiano was a foreman at the former Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp. for 38 years, retiring in 1971. After his retirement, he worked for the State of Rhode Island for 14 years at the RI National Guard Armory in Bristol.

Mr. Troiano was a communicant of our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Bristol. He was a member of the Kaiser Retirees.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Ronelle J. Meunier of Holden, Mass.; two sons, Matthew J. Troiano of Warren and Christian Troiano of Cumberland; six grandchildren, Joel C. Meunier, Jill P. Perkins, Matthew J. Troiano, Jonathan A. Troiano, Aaron C. Troiano and Michael A. Troiano; four great-grandchildren, Trevor and Noel Meunier, and Elena and Alexander Perkins. He was the brother of the late Libera Ruggiero, Priscilla Ferrara, Domenic Troy, and Mary and Julio "John" Troiano.

His funeral was on Tuesday, June 25, from the Sansone Funeral Home, Bristol, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. He was buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bristol.

Mary Mello
Lived in Warren for many years

Mary "Auntie" Mello, 91, of Market St., died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the wife of the late Edmund Mello.

Born in Madeira, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Joanna (DeJesus) Goes. She moved to Warren from Madeira, and remained in the town her entire life. Mrs. Mello was the owner and operator of the former Goes Market of Warren, before retiring. She was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Warren.

She leaves several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Horace Goes.

Her funeral was on Friday, June 21, from William J. Smith and Son Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. She was buried in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Warren.

John M. Soares

Founded K&J Cutting, Tiverton resident

John M. "Junior" Soares, 58, of King Road, Tiverton, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at St. Anne's Hospital, Fall River. He was the husband of Marilyn (Carvalho) Soares for 35 years.

Born in Fall River, a son of the late John Sr. and Idola (St. Pierre) Soares-Berube, he had lived in Fall River for most of his life before moving to Tiverton eight years ago.

Mr. Soares founded K&J Cutting in Fall River which he operated with his son.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, John Soares III of Tiverton; a daughter, Karen Pimentel of Fall River; a sister, Claire Thibault of Somerset; and three grandsons and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Barbara Wheelock.

His funeral will be held Friday, June 28, at 8 a.m. from the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St., Fall River, with a funeral Mass at 9 in St. Madeline Church, Lake Road, Tiverton. Burial will be in Pocasset Hill Cemetery.

Cecile Williams
Nurse was longtime Warren resident

Cecile "Tibby" Williams, 88, of 11 Prudence Lane, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Grace Barker Nursing Home in Warren. She was the wife of the late Robert Williams.

Born in Warren, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Florentine (Asselin) Thibaudeau.

Mrs. Williams graduated from the former Warren High School, Class of 1931. She graduated from St. Anne’s Nursing School in Fall River in 1935. She worked as a nurse in the Middlesex County Sanitarium in Waltham, Mass., for 35 years, retiring in 1971. She was a member of the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts. Mrs. Williams was also an avid bowler and Red Sox and Patriots fan.

She leaves several nieces, nephews, and two stepchildren. She was a sister of the late Antonio and Armand Thibaudeau and Jeannette Chenard.

Her funeral was on Friday, June 21, from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Jean Baptiste Church. She was buried in Notre Dame Cemetery in Fall River.

John Abbott

Chemical engineer; held three patents

John Farnham Schuyler Abbott, 91, of Fairhaven, Mass., died Friday, June 21, 2002, at the Oaks Nursing Home in New Bedford. He was the husband of the late Mary Joan Burnett, to whom he was married for 45 years.

Born in Montclair, N.J., he lived in Barrington from 1941 to 1959. He was a chemical engineer at the U.S. Rubber Company and Kaiser Aluminum in Bristol from 1937 to 1964. A 1932 graduate of Yale University, he earned a degree in chemical engineering and was a member of the school's Naval ROTC. He held three patents for inventions in television and space rockets.

He leaves three daughters, M. Louise Abbott of Fairhaven, with whom he made his home, Joan Peck of Riverside and Jodi Young of Branford, Conn.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Nancy Abbott and brother of the late Rosann Gray. Cremation arrangements were handled by the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home in Bourne, Mass.

Richard John Pribula
Portsmouth resident, technical writer

Richard John Pribula, 68, of 124 Valhalla Drive, Portsmouth, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Linda (Verocchi) Pribula to whom he had been married for 45 years.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on July 8, 1933, he was a son of the late John Pribula and Constance (Tegowska) Pribula, of Cleveland, Ohio.

He was a technical manual writer for The Naval Underwater Warfare Center for many years. He had also worked for McGlaughlin Research. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

Besides his wife and mother, he leaves two sons, Paul Pribula of Westerly, and Mitchell Pribula of Germany; a sister, June Delaat of Ohio; and two granddaughters. He was the father of the late Patrick Pribula and brother of the late John Richard Pribula.

His memorial service will be held Thursday, June 27, at 10:30 a.m. in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be private.
