Frank A. Matta
1921 - 2008
CUMBERLAND - Frank A. Matta, 87, of Tingley Dr., Cumberland, died Monday, Feb. 18th at Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of Sylvia Matta, who died eight weeks ago.
He is survived by his children Frank Matta and his wife Suzanne of Cumberland, Gregory Matta and his wife Lois Kelly of Cumberland, Christine Bishop and her husband Bob Bishop of Oakwood, Georgia; grandchildren Nicole Reed, Currie Bishop, Bethany Bishop and Ian Matta; brothers George Matta of Tiverton and John Matta of Cumberland, and sisters Hilda Cabral and Clara Lavelle of Cumberland, and Lillian Mathews and Irene Souza of North Smithfield.
Frank was president of Central Beverage, Inc., from 1973 until the business was acquired in 1998; president of Club Madeirense in Central Falls from 1942-45 and 1954-58, and a member of Four Corners Community Chapel in Cumberland and Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from the J.J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland, with a church service at 10 a.m. at Four Corners Community Chapel, 200 Angell Rd., Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling hours Friday from 4 -8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Four Corners Community Chapel, 200 Angell Rd., Cumberland, RI 02864.

Elizabeth "Betty" Alexander
1921 - 2008
LINCOLN - Elizabeth "Betty" (Scanlon) Alexander, 87, of Smithfield Avenue, passed away Tuesday at home. She was the wife of the late Armand Alexander.
Born in Lincoln, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Neeley) Scanlon. She resided in Lincoln for the past 47 years.
Mrs. Alexander was a graduate of the St. Joseph School of Nursing, and worked as a Registered Nurse with various area hospitals.
She leaves one son, Michael J. Alexander of Lincoln; two daughters, Maureen Alexander of Lincoln, and Kathie Richard of Cumberland; five grandsons, one granddaughter, one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held Friday at 8:45 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in the St. Mary Church, 538 Broadway, Providence. Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Relatives and Friends are kindly invited. Calling Hours will be held Thursday, 5-8 PM.

Janet L. Thomson
1918 - 2008
CUMBERLAND - Janet L. Thomson, 89 formerly of Forest Ave, Cumberland and River Road, Lincoln, passed away Monday in Roberts Health Center, North Kingstown. She was the wife of the late David Thomson.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Marion (Devlin) Linton.
She was a baker for the former Barnes Bakery in Lincoln for 30 years until her retirement.
She is survived by her two daughters Janet Gorniewicz and Betty Farenchak, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Marshall Linton; Maxwell Linton; Lee Linton; Marion Dick and Edith Murphy.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday May 10, 2008 at 11 AM in St. Matthew Trinity Lutheran Church, 690 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket.

Imelda A. Bergeron
1913-2008
Cumberland - Imelda A. Bergeron, 95, formerly of Massachusetts Avenue, and Earle Street, Central Falls passed away Sunday, in The Holiday Retirement Home, Manville. She was the wife of the late Donat Bergeron.
Born April 24, 1913 in Sorel, Quebec, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Marie (Rose) Arpin. She resided in Central Falls for most of her life.
She leaves a daughter, Connie Glad, and her husband Tom of Cumberland; two grandsons Michael Glad, and William Glad both of Cumberland; two granddaughters Donna Barboza of Cumberland, and Laura Kutsaftis of Middletown; eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. She was the sister of the late Blanche Lapham.
Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling Hours will be held Tuesday, May 13, 5-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Holiday Retirement Center, Activities Fund, 30 Sayles Hill Road, Manville, RI 02838.

Thomas Katsios
1950 - 2008
Smithfield - Thomas Katsios, 58, of Greenville, RI, passed away on May 16, 2008. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Eleni, his three daughters, Evangelia, Georgia, Golfo, his son, Georgios, his grandchildren, Giovanni, Katerina and Patrick, his sons-in law, Chris and Patrick, and his daughter-in-law, Kim.
Thomas was born and raised in Greece and served in the Greek National Army. Upon moving to the U.S. in 1980 with his wife and young children, he worked for several pizzerias before buying Athens Pizza in Greenville in 1989. He was a hard working man, loving husband and doting father and Grandfather who will be dearly missed.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 on Tuesday at the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Cumberland RI (401-334-2300). Funeral services will be held at Noon on Wednesday at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church (97 Walcott Street, Pawtucket RI) followed by a burial at North Burial Ground, North Main St., Providence, RI.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in his memory would be appreciated.

Mary R. Carlin
1921 - 2008
Cumberland - Mary R. (Laushway) Carlin, 87 formerly of Glenn Oaks Drive, passed away Thursday, May 22, in Mt. St. Rita Health Center, Cumberland. She was the wife of the late William R. Carlin
Born in 1921 in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Rene and Gertrude (Lane) Laushway. She resided in Cumberland for 35 years.
She was employed by the Ann & Hope of Cumberland for 16 years, retiring in 1983.
She was a Communicant of St. John Vianney Church, Cumberland..
She leaves three sons William B. Carlin III of Cumberland, James T. Carlin of Barrington, and Robert A. Carlin of Leominster, MA; two daughters, Marianne Gottschalk of North Providence, and Barbara Feeney of Narragansett; one sister, Ruth Beretta of Lincoln; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday, May 28, at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in the St. John Vianney Church, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Mt. St. Mary Cemetery. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling Hours will be held Tuesday, 9 to 10:30 AM. Please omit flowers.

Robert G. Reetz III
1964-2008
CUMBERLAND - Robert G. Reetz III, 43 of Angell Road passed away Tuesday, May 13 in the Pawtucket Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of Robert G. and Judith A. (Veloso) Reetz Jr. He resided in Cumberland for most of his life, previously residing for 5 years in San Diego, CA.
He was an 1982 graduate of St. Raphael's Academy, and a 1986 graduate of Bryant College.
During the course of his career, he worked at several Providence restaurants, Pot Au Feu; Westin Hotels, the former Davio's in the Biltmore Hotel, Eclectic Grill, and more recently L'Epicurio in the Hotel Providence. He was also a co-owner of Frenchy Marseilles Restaurant in San Diego, CA for several years.
In addition to his parents he leaves a devoted brother, Keith R. Reetz, and his wife Laura of Pawtucket; three nephews, Joshua K. Reetz, David and Marc Burns all of Pawtucket; a beloved aunt, Jacqueline McGreevy, several cousins, Robin Guenther, Michael McGreevy, William, Scott, Todd Sisson, and Kristen Ainsburg, and Linda Reetz Johnson.
His funeral will be held Friday at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in the Historic St. Joseph Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling Hours will be held Thursday, 4-8 PM.

Alberta M. Emilianowicz
1925-2008
Cumberland - Alberta M. (Kelleher) Emilianowicz, 82, of Cumberland Street, passed away Thursday, in the Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. She was the wife of Wallace "Buster" Emilianowicz.
Born in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William and Ada (Crompton) Kelleher. She was a life-long Cumberland resident.
She was an School Lunch Attendant for the Cumberland School System for 30 years until her retirement in 1989.
She leaves one son, Edward Emilianowicz, and wife Judy of West Chester, OH; one granddaughter Kimberly Emilianowicz of Lodi, CA; one grandson Andrew Emilianowicz of West Chester, OH; one brother, Edward "Ned" Kelleher of Cumberland; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Ethel Richard, Bernice King, Isabel Fountain, Herbert, William, Joseph, and John Kelleher.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 5 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling Hours will be held Monday, 3-6 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Diabetes Association of Rhode Island, 22 Richmond Street, Suite 204, Providence, RI 02904.

Joan Shirley Mays
1929 - 2008
Cumberland - Joan Shirley Mays (Morse), 78, formerly of Cumberland Crossing passed away Thursday, in the Woonsocket Health and Rehab Center, Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late Billy Joe Mays.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Alice (Stones) Morse. She resided in Cumberland for many years.
Mrs. Mays was a Bookkeeper for Mays Electric for many years.
She was a member of St. John Episcopal Church, and also a member of St. Aidan Widow Support Group.
She leaves two daughters, Linda Guastello of Warwick, Rebecca Downing of South Attleboro, one son, Richard Mays of New Port Richey, FL; one sister, Beatrice Wood of Cumberland ; three granddaughters, Katy Mays of Attleboro, Erica Guastello of Warwick, Lindsay Mays of Orlando, FL; and one grandson, David Mays of Hudson, FL. She also leaves one great-grandson, Christian Mays, of Hudson, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held Monday, May 12, 2008, at 9AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd., Rt. 122, Cumberland. Funeral Service at 10AM in the St. John Episcopal Church, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Swan Point Cemetery.
Relatives are kindly invited. Calling Hours are respectfully omitted.

Antoinette Moulson
1928 - 2008
CUMBERLAND - Antoinette (Forte) Moulson, 79 of Whipple St., died Saturday, in Landmark Medical Center. She was the wife of Norman J. Moulson.
Born in the Quinnville section of Lincoln, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Mary (Mascio) Forte. She resided in Cumberland most of her life.
She worked for many years until her retirement at her family's business, Forte Bros. Construction Co. as the payroll manager.
She was a communicant of Historic St. Joseph Church and a member of the church Women's Club and the Daughters of Isabella.
She leaves a daughter; Linda Whiteside and her husband Robert of Cumberland; one granddaughter, Jennifer Campbell and her husband Joseph; great granddaughters, Sarah and Allie all of Saunderstown. Five brothers, James Forte of Pompano, FL, Alfred Forte of No. Smithfield, Joseph, Antonio Forte of Cumberland; a sister and Nicholas Forte of Elkton, FL. One sister; Mary Lucy Kelly of Cumberland. She also leaves her sisters in law, nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday, 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. a.m. in the Historic St. Joseph Church. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling Hours will be held Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Rhode Island Foundation, Maria Forte-Tocco Scholarship Foundation, 1 Union Station, Providence, RI 02903.
