Zygfryd Baginski
April 15, 2009

Zygfryd Baginski, 92, of Mt. Pleasant Ave., died Wednesday at the Elmhurst Extended Care Center. He was the husband of Jean (Suchwalko) Baginski for 53 years.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helena (Pienkowska) Baginski. He was 5years old when his family returned to their native homeland, Poland.

In June 1944, he was arrested and became a prisoner in the Gross Rosen and Dora Concentration Camps. He was freed by General Patton's Army in April of 1945. In September 1948, after spending 2 years in a Displaced Person Camp in Germany, he returned to Rhode Island.

Mr. Baginski was employed as a draftsman for the Sealol Corporation of Warwick for 25 years.

Besides his wife he is survived by 3 sons, Paul Baginski, Steven Baginski and his wife Melissa, and Alan Baginski and his wife Jessica, a brother Wallace “Chester” Baginski, and 5 grandsons Glenn, Gary, William, Paul, and Timothy Baginski. He was also the brother of the late Alois Baginski and Alfreda Kucicki.

His funeral will be held Saturday at 9AM from the Hoey-Arpin-Williams-King Funeral Home, 168 Academy Ave., Providence, with a Mass of Christian burial in St. Adalbert's Church, 866 Atwells Ave., Providence, at 10AM. Calling hours Friday 5-7PM. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Adalbert's Church. Arrangements by SUPINSKI & BORRELLI.

Clayton F. Harwood
April 15, 2009

Clayton F. Harwood, 83, formerly of Roosevelt Avenue, passed away April 15, 2009 at The Rhode Island Veteran's Home, Bristol. He was the husband of the late Virginia T. (Deighan) Harwood.

Born in Taunton, MA, he was the son of the late Frank and Madeline (Hagar) Harwood.

Mr. Harwood was a Machine Operator for Inglehart, in Plainville, MA, for 27 years before retiring. He was a member of the VFW in Central Falls, an avid Boston Red Sox fan, and loved playing high low jack.

He is survived by a daughter Ruth Mancini of Seekonk, MA, a son Alan Harwood, of North Providence, two sisters, Irene Mason of Hartford, CT, and Beatrice Kenney of VT, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be Sunday 4-7 in the COSTIGAN-O'NEILL Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited. Funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his honor to Operation Stand Down, 1010 Hartford Avenue, Johnston, RI 02919.

William J. Preston
April 20, 2009

William J. Preston, 79, of Cumberland, passed away, Monday, April 20, 2009. He was the husband of Janet (Keller) Preston.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Harry and Helen (Stephenson) Preston. Mr. Preston a 1955 Graduate of the University of Rhode Island, was the founder of The Preston Agency Inc.

He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and Rhode Island Army National Guard Field Artillery, retiring with the rank of Captain. He was a former state chairman of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. He was also an avid sailor.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, William Preston of Warwick, Robert Preston of Narragansett, and Bradford Preston of West Greenwich, a step-daughter, Michele Rioux of Cumberland, six grandchildren and two great granddaughters.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours, Thursday 3-7pm in the O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME, 3102 Mendon Road (Route 122), Cumberland. The Funeral and Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to RI National Guard Sergeants Major Scholarship Fund, c/o Special Forces Association, PO Box 41283, Providence, RI, 02940, would be appreciated.

Carmino M. "Cal" Calvitto
April 22, 2009

Carmino M. "Cal" Calvitto, 82, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family Wednesday. He was the husband of the late Josefine (Weirauch) Calvitto.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Matteo and Rose (Cicotti) Calvitto.

“Cal” served in the U.S Army from 1945-1948 and was a Msgt. in the Air National Guard 1948-1986. He was a civil service worker for the Air National Guard, working as a mechanic from 1955-1976.

He was a member of DAV #1 in RI, a life member of VFW Post 45, serving as the Post Commander in 1993. From 1996-1999 he served as the Commander for the VFW District #4. He was also the State Chief of Staff for the VFW from 1999-2001, and 2002 and 2004.

Mr. Calvitto leaves two sons, Herbert M. Calvitto and his wife Debra, of NH and Michael A. Calvitto and his wife Gail, of Johnston, four grandchildren, Michelle Calvitto, Dawn Renaud, Michael Jr. and Joseph Calvitto, four great granddaughters, Madison, Mackenna, Jordyn, and Ashlyn Renaud, two brothers, Vincent and Louis Calvitto, of Johnston, two sisters, Annette Kemery, of FL, and Theresa Ramieri of Wakefield. He also leaves his long time companion Rosemarie Moretti. He was the grandfather of the late Stephen Calvitto, and brother of the late Bruno and Michael Calvitto.

The funeral will be Saturday at 8am from the HOEY-ARPIN-WILLIAMS-KING Funeral Home, 168 Academy Avenue, Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9am in Blessed Sacrament Church. A Graveside burial with Military Honors will be in RI Veteran's Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Friday 5-8. In lieu of flowers donations to Blessed Sacrament Church, 239 Regent Ave., Providence, RI 02908, would be appreciated.

Madeline R. Conneally
April 29, 2009

Madeline R. Conneally, 88, formerly of Metcalf Avenue, North Providence, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009. She was the wife of the late Clarence Conneally.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late James and Madeline (Brett) Reilly.

Mrs. Conneally worked for Industrial National Bank for many years before retiring.

She is survived by one son, Robert Conneally and his wife Cynthia, of Warwick and she was the mother of the late Daniel Conneally, she is also survived by a daughter-in-law Alice Conneally of Coventry, three brothers, James Reilly, of Providence, Charles Reilly, of Narragansett, and Walter Reilly of Bristol, two sisters, Mary Wilcox and Eileen Hughes, both of Warwick, nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Monday at 9am from the HOEY-ARPIN-WILLIAMS-KING Funeral Home 168 Academy Avenue, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saint Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Avenue, Providence. Burial will follow in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Sunday 2-4.In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her honor to Scalabrini Villa, 860 North Quindnessett Rd., North Kingstown, RI 02852.

Deborah “Debbie” Dennis
May 14, 2009

Deborah “Debbie” Dennis, 61 of Early Street, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Miriam Hospital. She was the wife of Joseph “Nardo” Dennis.

Born in Providence she was the daughter of the late Charles and Regina (Alves) Fisher.

Mrs. Dennis was a Tax Examiner for the IRS for twenty-one years. There she led the CFC non-profit campaign, as well as numerous other committees in support of her colleagues.

She was a former teacher for Providence Head Start, coached youth bowling leagues at Lang's Lanes in Cranston, and was the former cheerleading coach for the West End Intruders.

She also enjoyed her Wednesday night Pokeno card games she played with her closest friends.

Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter April Dennis, of Providence, two sons Kori Dennis, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Jason Dennis, of Providence, and four grandchildren, Ashlee, Taryn, Justin and Jalen Dennis as well as a host of family and friends. She was also the sister of the late Cheryl Fisher-Allen.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9am from the COSTIGAN-O'NEILL Funeral Home 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Assumption of The BVM Parish, 791 Potters Avenue, Providence. Burial will follow in RI Veteran's Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Tuesday 5-9pm.
